Overview

What is Neurons?

Neurons is a consumer-neuroscience platform that predicts how people will react to an advertisement before it is published. Its publisher, Neurons Inc ApS, has worked on applied neuroscience since 2013 and sells two products: Neurons AI, a web application, and Neurons API, the same engine exposed as a REST service.

The principle is prediction rather than measurement. Instead of running an A/B test or waiting for post-campaign data, you upload a creative — a still image, an animation or a video — and the platform returns, within seconds, a set of cognitive scores: attention, engagement, memorability, message clarity and attention paid to the brand itself. Those scores condense into a single summary score paired with a plain recommendation: launch it, optimise it, or keep iterating.

The visual output is an attention heatmap of the kind normally produced by eye-tracking equipment, here predicted by a model. On video, the analysis runs frame by frame, and object attention tracking follows one chosen element — a logo, a product, a headline — across the whole clip. Recommendations arrive as an ordered to-do list tied to the campaign goal, and the platform can generate alternative visual directions for the same creative. A compare view puts several versions next to each other against industry benchmarks, and reports export in one click.

What supports the predictions is a database the company describes as eye-tracking and brain-scanning data from 300,000 participants gathered over twenty years, with a claimed accuracy above 95%. Those figures come from the vendor.

For product teams, the REST API accepts bulk uploads, handles video, static and animated formats through VAST, runs in batch or in real time and returns JSON, which is how demand-side platforms, content management systems and internal dashboards embed the scores.

Access is commercial. Three packages — Starter, Pro and Scale — are all sold on quote, each bundling unlimited analyses and predictions, a dedicated Customer Success Manager and a neuromarketing course, with a capped allowance of visual recommendations.

What it does

  • Pre-test an advertisement before launch and get one summary score with a launch, optimise or iterate recommendation
  • Produce a predictive attention heatmap on any image or video
  • Score engagement, memorability, message clarity and attention paid to the brand
  • Track attention on a single element such as a logo, a product or a headline across a video
  • Compare several versions of a creative side by side against industry benchmarks
  • Score hundreds of video assets in a single batch
  • Feed attention and cognition scores into your own product or dashboard through the REST API

When to use Neurons / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if Neurons is the right fit.

When to use Neurons

  • Brand and advertising teams producing creatives in volume who must choose between versions before committing media budget
  • Media and creative agencies that need to defend a recommendation to a client with data rather than opinion
  • Consumer insights and market research teams looking for a faster substitute for recall surveys
  • Video teams arbitrating between edits before production or before an ad buy
  • Adtech product teams building DSPs, content management systems or dashboards who want to embed attention scores through an API

When not to use Neurons

  • Freelancers and small businesses: no price is published, there is no free plan, and every package goes through a sales quote
  • Anyone who wants to sign up and test on their own, without going through a demo call first
  • Teams that need measured campaign results: the platform predicts cognitive responses, it does not measure real audience behaviour
  • Organisations that require data to be processed only inside the European Union, since most processing takes place in the United States
  • Marketers looking for a tool that produces campaigns: Neurons tests and recommends, it does not build the advertising

How to use Neurons

A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.

  1. Request a demonstration through the Book a demo form, since there is no self-service sign-up
  2. Answer the qualification questions and receive a quote for the package that fits the team
  3. Sign the subscription and get access to the web application at app.neuronsinc.com
  4. Meet the assigned Customer Success Manager, who handles onboarding, and take the included neuromarketing course
  5. Upload a creative — image, animation or video — into the platform
  6. Read the summary score and the launch, optimise or iterate recommendation it comes with
  7. Open the attention heatmap and the behavioural scores to see which parts of the creative work
  8. On video, follow the frame-by-frame analysis and track attention on a specific object such as the logo
  9. Drop alternative versions into the compare view, weigh them against industry benchmarks and pick the winner
  10. For volume or automation, call the REST API from your own product to score assets in batch and get JSON back

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Predictions rest on a large, dated research base: eye-tracking and brain-scanning data from 300,000 participants over twenty years
  • Results arrive in seconds where a conventional creative test takes days
  • Unlimited analyses and predictions are included in all three packages
  • A dedicated Customer Success Manager and a neuromarketing course come with every plan
  • Documented REST API for teams that want the scores inside their own product
  • SOC 2 Type II certification and a published Data Processing Agreement naming sixteen sub-processors
  • Data governance is written down rather than implied: the client owns its data, and the machine-learning consent can be withdrawn

Cons

  • No price is published anywhere: all three packages go through Get my quote
  • No free plan and no advertised free trial, so the tool cannot be evaluated without a sales conversation
  • Starter and Pro cap the team at five users, with extra seats sold as an add-on
  • Visual recommendations are capped per package, at 500, 1,000 and 2,000
  • SSO is a paid add-on on Starter and Pro instead of a standard security feature
  • Support runs through the Customer Success Manager during Danish business hours only, with no support email published
  • The privacy policy still shows version 1.0.1 dated 18 September 2019, while the terms and the DPA are dated 2026

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how Neurons handles your data.

GDPR overview

Neurons Inc ApS is established in Denmark and therefore falls directly under the GDPR. Compliance is claimed in plain words: the API page states that creative assets stay GDPR-compliant, and the Ethical AI page says the company strictly complies with the GDPR and the Declaration of Helsinki. Documentation supports part of that claim. A full Data Processing Agreement is published, based on the standard Danish Article 28(3) clauses, listing sixteen named sub-processors and relying on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers outside the EU. A Data Protection Officer, Michael Nielsen, is named; breaches are reported to Datatilsynet within 72 hours; the six data-subject rights are listed, exercised through hello@neuronsinc.com. The company is also SOC 2 Type II certified. One caveat: the privacy policy itself is version 1.0.1, last updated 18 September 2019.

Who owns the data?

Clause 5.1 of the terms is explicit: the client owns and retains all rights to its Client Data, and the agreement grants Neurons no ownership over it. What the client grants instead is permission for Neurons and its sub-processors to use that data as far as necessary to deliver the service. Neurons keeps the intellectual property of the platform itself, its software, code, design, logos and website. Under data protection law the roles are separate from ownership: the client acts as data controller, Neurons Inc ApS as processor, working on documented instructions under a published Data Processing Agreement that names sixteen sub-processors.

Reuse rights

The client keeps its material and can reuse both what it uploads and what the platform returns without asking Neurons for permission: the terms grant Neurons a licence to process, never ownership. In the other direction, clause 5.4 lets Neurons collect, store and process Client Data, let its sub-processors and third-party tools do the same, monitor uploads for servicing and maintenance, and use Client Data for machine learning and benchmarking to improve its own services. That last permission is the one worth noticing, and it can be withdrawn at any time by written notice to the assigned Customer Success Manager. The third-party large language models used behind the scenes, named in the terms as Claude AI and Gemini, are contractually barred from training on Client Data, benchmarking with it or using it to improve their own services.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
Retention rules are published for several categories of data. Client records held in the CRM and by email are deleted after three years of inactivity. Study data is merged into the research database after five years, and sensitive participant data is destroyed after the study, within one month for people who did not attend. Job applications are kept for one year with explicit consent, otherwise deleted after screening. Under the Data Processing Agreement, Neurons deletes or returns customer data at the end of the service and removes existing copies unless the law requires otherwise, and gives thirty days' notice before adding or replacing a sub-processor. No retention period is published for the creative assets uploaded into the platform.

Hosting summary

The privacy policy states that Neurons uses data processors with data centres in the EU or EEA 'to the extent possible'. The published Data Processing Agreement is more specific and paints a different picture: appendix C.5 authorises processing at Google Cloud us-central1-a in Iowa, United States, at Amazon Web Services in the United States for HubSpot, Segment, Mixpanel, SendGrid and Stripe, at Google Cloud in the United States for Sentry, and at Weld Technologies in Denmark. In practice, the platform's processing is therefore mostly American, with a single Danish sub-processor. Transfers outside the European Union are covered by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, and the client gives its authorisation by signing the agreement. Sixteen sub-processors are named in appendix B.1 with their addresses and the purpose of each. The website itself is served through Cloudflare, which reflects delivery, not where data is stored.

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Neurons.

  • Client data feeds Neurons' own machine learning and benchmarking by default: the opt-out exists but has to be actively requested in writing
  • Third-party language models, named in the terms as Claude AI and Gemini, process client creatives, even though they are barred from reusing them
  • Most processing runs on United States infrastructure although the publisher is Danish and the privacy policy states a preference for EU data centres
  • The privacy policy dates from September 2019 and mostly covers study participants and job applicants rather than platform customers
  • No retention period is published for the creatives uploaded into the platform
  • The scores are predictions, not measurements: treating them as proven campaign results, or letting them replace creative judgement entirely, is a misuse of the tool
  • The headline performance figures come from the vendor and from a customer survey it commissioned, with no independent study linked
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Using the platform requires no technical skill: you upload a file and read the scores, which the vendor describes as a few clicks. The real friction is commercial, since access starts with a demo and a quote rather than a sign-up. Onboarding is guided, with a dedicated Customer Success Manager and a neuromarketing course included in every package, and SSO is available. The API route is a different matter and belongs to a developer: REST integration, JSON parsing and VAST handling, with no publicly accessible documentation before contact.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does Neurons actually do?
It pre-tests advertising creatives. You upload an image, an animation or a video and the platform predicts attention, engagement, memorability and message clarity before the ad goes live, returning a heatmap, a set of scores and a recommended next action.
What are the predictions based on?
On eye-tracking and brain-scanning data that the company describes as coming from 300,000 participants collected over twenty years, with a claimed accuracy above 95%. Both the dataset size and the accuracy figure are stated by the vendor.
How much does it cost?
No price is public. Three packages exist, Starter, Pro and Scale, and each one is quoted individually after a demo. Extra users, SSO, additional visual recommendations and a workshop with the founder are sold as add-ons.
Is there a free trial or a free plan?
Neither is advertised. The only free entry point on the site is a demonstration, booked through a form. The terms mention that free versions, trials or pilots may exist, but the site does not offer one.
Is there an API?
Yes. Neurons API is a REST service returning JSON, handling video, static and animated creatives through VAST, in batch or in real time. It is aimed at demand-side platforms, content management systems and internal dashboards. Documentation is not public and goes through a sales contact.
Are my creatives used to train their models?
By default yes. Clause 5.4 of the terms lets Neurons use Client Data for machine learning and benchmarking to improve its own services, and consent can be withdrawn at any time by written notice to the Customer Success Manager. The third-party language models involved, named as Claude AI and Gemini, are contractually barred from doing the same.
Who owns the data uploaded to the platform?
The client. Clause 5.1 states that the client owns and retains all rights to its Client Data, and that the agreement grants Neurons no ownership. Neurons receives only the permission needed to run the service.
Where is the data hosted?
Mostly in the United States. The Data Processing Agreement lists Google Cloud in Iowa for the platform and Amazon Web Services in the United States for peripheral tools, with one Danish sub-processor, Weld Technologies. Transfers outside the EU rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Is there a mobile app?
No. Neurons is a web application plus an API. No iOS or Android application is listed on the site.
What support comes with a subscription?
A dedicated Customer Success Manager, available during Danish business hours from Monday to Friday, plus a public knowledge base. No support email address is published.
Conclusion

Should you pick Neurons?

Neurons is one of the more solid propositions in its category, and the reason is its age: the company has been building a consumer-neuroscience database since 2013, publishes its research approach, names its ethical advisory board and backs its legal claims with real documents rather than badges. For a brand or an agency producing advertising in volume, the value proposition is easy to state — decide between five versions in minutes instead of waiting for post-campaign data, and go into a client meeting with something more defensible than taste.

Two reservations deserve weight before signing. The first is commercial: nothing is priced publicly, there is no free plan or trial, and the only way in is a sales conversation. That rules out small teams and makes budgeting impossible from the outside. The second concerns data governance, and it is more subtle. The terms are unusually clear that the client owns its data, but they also grant Neurons the right to train on it by default, leaving the client to withdraw consent in writing. Most processing happens in the United States despite a Danish publisher and a stated preference for EU data centres, and the privacy policy has not been revised since 2019 while the terms and the Data Processing Agreement carry a 2026 date.

One last point of method: Neurons predicts responses, it does not measure them. The scores are a strong prior, not a result, and the performance figures quoted on the site come from the vendor and its own customer survey. Used as a filter to narrow choices, the tool earns its place. Used as proof that a campaign worked, it is being asked to do something it does not claim to do.
