Overview

What is Coinrule?

Coinrule is a rule-based trading automation platform published by Coinrule Limited, a British company registered under number 11265766 at Office One, 1 Coldbath Square, London EC1R 5HL. It was founded by Gabriele Musella (CEO, product), Oleg Giberstein (COO, growth) and Zdenek Hofler (CTO, architecture), with a launch announced across 2018 and 2019, and it went through the Y Combinator Summer 2021 batch. The product replaces trading scripts with a visual rule builder written in plain language: the user assembles if this, then that conditions, drawn from price moves, technical indicators and time windows, and attaches buy or sell actions to them. More than 20 technical indicators are available, including RSI, MACD, moving averages and Bollinger Bands, and 350+ pre-built strategy templates can be activated in a single click, a figure the pricing page states as 300+. Typical patterns cover dollar-cost averaging, grid trading, trailing stop loss, take profit, mean reversion, momentum and portfolio rebalancing. Coverage extends well beyond spot crypto. Coinrule connects to exchanges such as Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, KuCoin, OKX, Bybit, Bitget and Hyperliquid, trades natively onchain on Base, Arbitrum, Ethereum and Binance Smart Chain using Account Abstraction and Session Keys, and reaches stocks and ETFs through Trading 212, E*Trade, Webull, Public and Alpaca, for a claimed 10,000+ assets. TradingView alerts and Pine Script signals can trigger orders, and an official MCP server lets ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok read the portfolio, create strategies, run backtests and manage bots over OAuth 2.1, with revocable read or read-and-write scopes. The platform is non-custodial: it works from exchange API keys created without withdrawal permission, claims AES-256 encryption, and never holds user funds. A Demo Exchange runs rules on virtual money against market data modelled on the Binance order book. Web, iOS and Android apps are available. Audience figures published on the site vary by page, from 374,043 traders on the home page to 410,000+ on the AI and MCP pages and 428,931+ on comparison pages, alongside 1,395,960 strategies created and ratings of 4.9 on Google Reviews, 4.8 on the App Store and 4.3 on Trustpilot.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • No programming skills required: rules are assembled in plain language in a visual editor
  • A permanent free plan, not merely a trial
  • Non-custodial by design: API keys carry no withdrawal rights and funds stay on the user's own exchange
  • Risk-free rehearsal through the Demo Exchange, demo rules and backtesting
  • Broad coverage from a single provider: crypto spot, futures and perpetuals, onchain, stocks and ETFs
  • Flat subscription pricing, presented as an alternative to the 1% of volume charged by some competitors
  • Official MCP server with granular, revocable permissions for AI assistants, backed by a help centre, an academy, a free webinar and one-to-one sessions on paid plans

Cons

  • Services declared not intended for, directed at or marketed to EU/EEA residents, with no CASP licence under MiCA
  • Article 9.3 of the Terms grants Coinrule a worldwide, irrevocable and sublicensable licence over User Content, explicitly including the strategies users create
  • The privacy notice is dated 13 April 2023, older than the Terms of 31 May 2024 and than the AI and MCP features it never mentions
  • No sub-processor named beyond Checkout.com, no hosting country disclosed and no data processing agreement mentioned
  • Nothing published states whether customer data is used to train AI models
  • Figures conflict between pages: 374,043, 410,000+ and 428,931+ traders; the Pro plan at USD 449.99 per month in the home-page simulator against USD 749.00 on the pricing page; a refund window of 7 days in the Terms against a 14-day guarantee in the home-page FAQ
  • No regulatory protection, since the service falls outside the Financial Ombudsman Service and the FSCS; a very limited free plan (2 live rules, 1 exchange, USD 3,000 monthly volume); and an EEA representative based in the United Kingdom, outside the EEA

Trust & Privacy

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how Coinrule handles your data.

GDPR overview

Coinrule's privacy notice, served through Termly and last updated 13 April 2023, applies the GDPR and UK GDPR explicitly: it sets out the legal bases relied on, names a Data Protection Officer at privacy@coinrule.com, and lists rights of access and copy, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection and non-subjection to automated decisions, alongside withdrawal of consent and a data subject access request route. Complaints may be filed with a member state authority, the UK regulator or the Swiss FDPIC. Zdenek Hofler is named as EEA representative, but at a London address, outside the EEA. Coinrule never states in so many words that it is GDPR compliant. One contradiction stands out: the MCP documentation declares the services are not intended for, directed at or marketed to EU/EEA residents and that Coinrule holds no MiCA CASP licence, while the privacy notice still appoints an EEA representative.

Who owns the data?

Coinrule Limited acts as the data controller under European and UK data protection law, determining the purposes and means of the processing it carries out. A Data Protection Officer is reachable at privacy@coinrule.com and at the London head office, and Zdenek Hofler is named as both EEA and UK representative. Payment card data is processed and stored by Checkout.com, which Coinrule states it does not access. Ownership of what members build is less clear-cut: article 9.3 of the Terms grants Coinrule a free, worldwide, transferable, sublicensable and irrevocable right of use and exploitation over all User Content, explicitly including the trading strategies users create and their parameters.

Reuse rights

Coinrule states it collects personal data to create and authenticate accounts, deliver and administer the service, communicate with users, secure the platform against fraud and meet legal obligations, relying under the GDPR and UK GDPR on consent, performance of the contract, legitimate interests, legal obligations and vital interests. Collected items include email addresses, usernames, passwords, card numbers, contact and authentication data, contact preferences, and automatically gathered IP, device, usage and location data, the latter possibly from GPS through the mobile apps. Financial data is treated as sensitive and processed with consent, and social logins with Facebook, X, LinkedIn or Google pull profile data. Sharing is described only by categories of third parties, such as advertising networks, analytics, hosting providers, payment processors and marketing tools, with Checkout.com the sole named recipient; Coinrule states it collects no information from third parties. Nothing published says whether customer data feeds AI model training, and no clause sets out what users may or may not do when reusing their own exported data.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
Coinrule states that it keeps personal data only as long as needed for the purposes set out in its privacy notice, unless a longer period is required by law, and adds that no purpose justifies keeping data beyond the time a user holds an account. At the end of that period, data is deleted or anonymised; where deletion is not immediately possible, in backup archives for instance, the data is stored securely and isolated until it can be removed. The Terms add that account data may be deleted after a subscription or trial is cancelled (art. 5.9), and that a user can ask support to delete the account and all associated data (art. 8). Some data may still be kept to prevent fraud, resolve disputes or meet legal obligations. These rules come from a notice last updated on 13 April 2023.

Hosting summary

No hosting country or region is disclosed in Coinrule's published documents. The privacy notice lists Website Hosting Service Providers and Cloud Computing Services among the categories of third parties it may share data with, but names none of them. The only named processor is Checkout.com, which handles and stores payment card data, and which Coinrule states it does not access. The pricing page distinguishes a Shared Server on the lower plans from a Dedicated Server on the Pro plan, under a Data Compliance row, which describes execution infrastructure rather than a storage jurisdiction. The domain is served behind Cloudflare (AS13335), which says nothing about where data is actually stored. The publisher is Coinrule Limited, a company based in London, which points to the United Kingdom as the governing jurisdiction, but no storage location, no transfer mechanism and no data processing agreement are published.

Watch-outs

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Coinrule.

  • Leverage, futures and perpetuals can produce losses larger than the sum committed, and the publisher itself notes that crypto prices can move by more than 100% in a single day
  • The Terms describe the software as experimental and disclaim any responsibility for financial losses
  • Orders are executed on third-party exchanges, and Coinrule declines responsibility if an execution fails
  • Granting a read-and-write scope on the MCP server lets an AI assistant place real orders on the user's behalf
  • Article 9.3 of the Terms hands Coinrule a very broad and irrevocable licence over the trading strategies users create
  • EU/EEA residents who sign up are treated as acting on their own initiative, under reverse solicitation, and therefore without the cover a locally licensed provider would carry
  • Automation invites complacency: one-click templates and bots running 24/7 make it easy to delegate judgement, to run strategies that are not understood, and to check open positions compulsively
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Low. Nothing is installed: Coinrule runs as a web application, with iOS and Android companion apps, and rules are assembled in a visual, plain-language editor. The one genuinely technical step is creating an exchange API key without withdrawal permission, for which step-by-step guides are provided. Onchain trading adds a wallet connection with Account Abstraction and Session Keys. Advanced options, such as TradingView Pine Script signals or connecting an AI assistant to the MCP server over OAuth 2.1, remain optional. A free 30-minute webinar, a help centre and one-to-one sessions on paid plans support onboarding.

Conclusion

Should you pick Coinrule?

Coinrule holds a clear position: automated trading without code, backed by a genuinely permanent free plan and a non-custodial architecture in which exchange API keys carry no withdrawal rights and funds never leave the user's own account. The visual rule builder, the 350+ templates, backtesting and the Demo Exchange make it one of the more approachable entry points into systematic trading, and the coverage, from crypto spot, futures and perpetuals to onchain execution, stocks and ETFs through partner brokers, is unusually broad for a single subscription. Its current differentiator is the official MCP server, which lets ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok read a portfolio, build strategies and manage bots under revocable OAuth scopes. That is useful and demanding in equal measure: a read-and-write scope means an assistant can place real orders. Several reservations deserve weight. Coinrule states that its services are not intended for, directed at or marketed to residents of the EU or the EEA, and that it holds no CASP licence under MiCA, while its privacy notice still names an EEA representative at a London address. That notice dates from April 2023 and predates the AI and MCP features it never mentions. No sub-processor is named beyond Checkout.com, no hosting country is published, and no data processing agreement is offered. Published figures also conflict between pages, from trader counts to the Pro plan price and the length of the refund window. The publisher itself sets the frame: the software is described as experimental, Coinrule is neither a broker nor a financial adviser, orders execute on third-party venues outside its control, and users sit outside the Financial Ombudsman Service and the FSCS. Read that way, Coinrule is a capable automation layer for people who already understand the risk they are taking, not a shield against it.
