What is AIS REV 360?

AIS REV 360 is an industrial machine vision system built by AIS Vision Systems, a Sabadell-based automation integrator that is part of the AIS group. It is not a piece of software you download: it is a set of side-mounted cameras, controlled strobe lighting, an electrical cabinet and a controller, installed on an existing production line and wired into the plant's rejection mechanism.

Its purpose is surface inspection in 360 degrees. Because the cameras surround the product, the line does not have to orient items before they are checked, which removes a mechanical constraint that conventional inspection stations usually impose. The vendor describes the result as an unwrap of the object, letting an operator see a cylindrical product in real time as if it were being turned by hand. The intelligence comes from deep learning. Neural networks are supplied pre-trained, so defect detection works from commissioning rather than after a data collection campaign, and inference runs in real time on a Rosepetal controller installed at the line. Rosepetal is the group's own deep learning software, and an FPGA carrying a patented microcontroller handles synchronisation with the conveyor. On the imaging side the vendor quotes cameras of 5 megapixels and above, uniform lighting, and a throughput of four to five containers per second.

Every unit is checked, defective ones are ejected automatically, and inspection data is retained for later analysis, with remote access for monitoring. Format changeovers are described as simple and possible without stopping the line.

A second version of the same product, AIS REV 360 Cables, applies the approach to continuous cable and tube lines with four colour cameras and speeds of up to 225 metres per minute, covering coated and uncoated cables, extruded plastic tubes and metal tubes.

The product came out of a research project, AIS REV, certified by Spain's Centre for Technological Development and Innovation in December 2022 and aimed specifically at deep learning quality control for cylindrical packaging.
