Overview

What is SalesFuel?

SalesFuel, Inc. is an American B2B company working where sales intelligence, marketing research and sales enablement meet. It was founded in 1989 by C. Lee Smith in Columbus, Ohio, under the name Sales Development Services, and is run today from Westerville, Ohio. Its pitch is deliberately contrarian in an AI-saturated market: it sells the proprietary intelligence AI can't, meaning research that cannot be scraped or retrieved through a public search engine. The company runs four brands rather than one product. AdMall serves local media outlets and advertising agencies, claiming 15,000+ sellers, coverage of 400+ advertiser verticals, a 60-second Digital Audit of a prospect's digital presence, a co-op advertising database, a 24/7 Sales Coach built on a closed generative model, and AI idea generators for ad scripts and lead magnets. TeamTrait handles pre-hire assessment: 150+ workplace traits measured through DISC, Motivators, a Hartman Value Profile and a Sales Acumen test, returned as a Four Fits Report, plus a Retention Assessment and detection of thirteen types of workplace toxicity, in a twenty-minute candidate experience with a claimed 94% accuracy. SalesCred is an app and training programme drawn from C. Lee Smith's book SalesCred: How Buyers Qualify Sellers, with daily CredTips, 90-second CredTalk microcasts and in-app Meeting Prep purchases. The fourth brand is C. Lee Smith himself, for speaking and coaching. Underneath sits the research engine. AudienceSCAN draws on 20,000+ US consumers and 1,300+ personas built over more than fifteen years, while B2B BuyerSCAN surveys 2,000+ C-suite decision makers at companies with twenty or more employees, alongside recurring studies such as State of Credibility, State of Media Sales and Voice of the Sales Rep. A REST API over JSON and HTTPS, with API keys and rate limits, exposes those datasets as a grounding layer for RAG applications. The published figures set the tone of the argument: a bad B2B hire costs an average of $177,171, only 24% of Americans find salespeople credible, 42% consider AI trustworthy, and 44% of millennial B2B buyers would rather avoid a seller altogether. SalesFuel reports 500+ active clients and revenue growth in nearly every year of its 35-year history, and gives away a daily blog, two podcasts, webinars and special reports.

What it does

  • Prepare a sales call with AdMall's local intelligence on 400+ advertiser verticals
  • Run a Digital Audit of a prospect's online presence in about sixty seconds
  • Assess a candidate with DISC, Motivators, the Hartman Value Profile and a Sales Acumen test
  • Generate AI-assisted behavioural interview questions from an assessment result
  • Search proprietary research: AudienceSCAN personas, B2B BuyerSCAN and the State of Credibility studies
  • Surface co-op advertising budgets available in a prospect's category
  • Query the REST API to feed an application or ground an LLM retrieval pipeline

When to use SalesFuel / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if SalesFuel is the right fit.

When to use SalesFuel

  • Local media outlets and advertising agencies whose sellers prospect across hundreds of advertiser verticals with AdMall
  • Sales managers and HR teams hiring salespeople who want structured pre-hire evidence instead of gut feel, through TeamTrait
  • B2B sellers and business development reps working to build credibility with sceptical buyers, through SalesCred
  • Marketers and insights analysts who need US consumer psychographics, personas and early purchase intent from AudienceSCAN
  • Founders, small-business owners and developers who want verified B2B research on tap, either as reports or through the REST API

When not to use SalesFuel

  • Teams shopping for a CRM or an automated outbound engine: SalesFuel supplies intelligence, not pipeline execution
  • Companies selling outside the United States, since AudienceSCAN covers US consumers and the hiring guidance follows US EEOC practice
  • Buyers who expect to sign up self-service, as TeamTrait is the only product with a published price and the rest goes through a sales conversation
  • Agencies and media outlets that will not clear the qualification step, because the free AdMall trial is reserved for qualifying organisations
  • Procurement teams with strict vendor requirements: no DPA, no EU Article 27 representative and no security certification are published

Trust & Privacy

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how SalesFuel handles your data.

GDPR overview

The privacy policy carries a full GDPR Privacy section rather than a passing mention. SalesFuel, Inc. is named the Data Controller and its service providers are qualified as Data Processors. The legal bases are listed one by one: consent, performance of a contract, legal obligation, vital interests, public interest and legitimate interests. Data subject rights are enumerated too, covering access, rectification, objection, erasure, portability and withdrawal of consent, together with the right to complain to an EEA supervisory authority. Two gaps stand out: no EU representative is designated under Article 27 and no data protection officer is named, and rights are exercised through the general contact page rather than a dedicated address. The policy was last updated on 7 January 2026 and the terms have been in force since 30 March 2021. CCPA/CPRA, CalOPPA and Shine the Light sections are present as well.

Who owns the data?

SalesFuel's terms draw a clear line between the two sides of an account. Anything the subscriber owns or types into the platform stays with the subscriber: the agreement expressly excludes data owned and entered by Subscriber, which shall remain the property of Subscriber. Everything SalesFuel supplies, grouped under the term Licensed Information (websites, databases, software and media), remains the exclusive property of SalesFuel, Inc., along with the AdMall, TeamTrait, SalesCred, AudienceSCAN and Sell Smarter trademarks listed in the terms. For personal data collected through its websites, the privacy policy names SalesFuel, Inc. the Data Controller under the GDPR, with its named service providers acting as processors.

Reuse rights

Reuse is bounded rather than open. The terms restrict access for parties described as SalesFuel Competitors and prohibit data mining of the licensed databases, so subscribers are expected to use the intelligence inside their own selling and hiring work rather than redistribute it. What SalesFuel does with the data it collects is set out in the privacy policy: delivering and improving the service, contacting users, marketing, analytics and retargeted advertising. The legal bases are listed in full, covering consent, performance of a contract, legal obligation, vital interests, public interest and legitimate interests such as securing and improving the service, basic web analytics and B2B lead generation. Data may be shared with service providers, affiliates, business partners, other users and in a business transfer, with consent where required. Snitcher aggregates IP and technical data at company level only, without identifying the individual, through a two-year SNID cookie. Nothing in the documents states that customer data feeds model training.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
SalesFuel publishes a qualitative retention rule rather than any figure. The privacy policy states that the Company will retain Your Personal Data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy, with longer retention where it is needed to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes or enforce agreements. Usage Data is generally kept for a shorter period, except when it serves security, service improvement or a legal requirement. No period is quantified in days, months or years, and no anonymisation procedure is described. The one concrete duration published concerns tracking rather than accounts: the Snitcher SNID cookie lives for two years. Data subjects in the EU can exercise their right to erasure, but only through the general contact page, since no dedicated privacy address is provided.
Subprocessors disclosed
Yes

Hosting summary

SalesFuel does not declare where its data is hosted. No hosting country or region is named anywhere on the site, and no security certification such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001 is displayed. What the privacy policy says is jurisdictional rather than technical: personal data is processed at the Company's operating offices and in any other places where the parties involved in the processing are located, and it may be transferred outside the user's state, province or country. The policy's own definitions state that Country refers to the United States of America, and the company and its headquarters sit in Westerville, Ohio, so US jurisdiction is the reasonable default assumption. The public site is served behind Cloudflare's anycast network, and the only indirect technical clue found is a TeamTrait PDF hosted on teamtrait.s3.amazonaws.com. None of this amounts to a hosting commitment. Organisations with data residency requirements should ask SalesFuel directly, all the more so since no DPA is published.

Watch-outs

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting SalesFuel.

  • Assessment results must never decide a hire on their own: SalesFuel's own terms say so, and treating a twenty-minute test as a verdict on a person is the main way this tool gets misused
  • Reading a candidate through 150+ traits and thirteen toxicity labels can harden into bias if the profile is opened before the human being is met
  • Leaning on the 24/7 Sales Coach and the AI idea generators can quietly erode a seller's own research, listening and discovery habits
  • AdMall and SalesCred PRO prices are not public and the AdMall trial is reserved for qualifying agencies and media outlets, so neither budget nor access can be assumed
  • No DPA is published and no EU Article 27 representative is designated: both should be settled before any GDPR-scoped deployment
  • No data hosting country is declared, and no documented mechanism exists to exclude customer data from model training
  • The terms bar access for SalesFuel competitors and prohibit data mining of the databases, which limits how far the intelligence can be reused internally
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Low on most paths, moderate only for the API. The SalesCred app installs in minutes and asks two questions to personalise itself. TeamTrait needs no technical work: candidates take a twenty-minute assessment through customisable email invitations, and 50+ ready-made ATS and HRIS integrations allow imports from any ATS. AdMall is a browser login, with onboarding and training webinars provided, and private manager onboarding is included from the Discounted Subscription tier. Only the API calls for a developer: keys are issued by a sales representative, and the endpoint documentation, code samples and rate limits need a technical review.

Frequently asked questions

What is SalesFuel?

Three software brands: AdMall for local media and agency sellers, TeamTrait for pre-hire assessment and SalesCred for seller credibility, alongside speaking and coaching under the C. Lee Smith brand.

Yes. A REST API over JSON and HTTPS, secured with API keys and subject to rate limits, exposes the AudienceSCAN and B2B BuyerSCAN datasets, including for RAG and LLM use. Access comes with the Enterprise tier or through a sales representative.
Are there mobile apps?
Yes. SalesFuel Mobile, AdMall Mobile and SalesCred are available on iOS and Android, and SalesCred is also published on the Zoom Marketplace.

The subscriber does. The terms state that data owned and entered by the subscriber remains the subscriber's property, while the platforms, databases and content supplied by SalesFuel stay its exclusive property.
Conclusion

Should you pick SalesFuel?

SalesFuel's strongest argument is also its simplest: the intelligence it sells cannot be scraped, googled or generated. AudienceSCAN, B2B BuyerSCAN and the recurring credibility studies are collected and reviewed by human analysts, which counts for something at a moment when most sales tools resell the same public signals. Add thirty-seven years in the market since its founding in 1989, 500+ active clients, an assessment engine built in-house and a free entry point through the SalesCred app, and the company earns a serious look from anyone selling media, advertising or B2B services. The reservations are just as clear. Pricing is largely quote-based: TeamTrait's USD 195 per assessment is the only public number, while AdMall and SalesCred PRO both route through a sales conversation, which makes budgeting before contact impossible. The compliance posture is thin on paper, with no published DPA, no EU Article 27 representative, no declared hosting country and no SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification, so European buyers should raise those points early. And the datasets are firmly American: US consumer panels, US hiring guidance, US benchmarks. The fit is therefore narrower than a four-brand catalogue suggests. Media sellers, agencies, sales managers and HR teams in the United States get the most out of it, especially those who would otherwise have no research function at all. Teams outside that profile can still use TeamTrait's fourteen-language assessments or the API, but they will be buying a fraction of what SalesFuel actually does.
