What is PharmAssistant?
PharmAssistant is a French-language conversational AI assistant built for community pharmacy. It is published by Johan Natter, a sole trader who holds doctorates in pharmacy and in medicinal chemistry, and it is sold by subscription to pharmacies rather than to individual seats.
Its central claim is architectural. Instead of letting a language model answer from memory or from a plain web search, every question goes through a two-stage engine: a routing model decides which of the 61 in-house tools to call, those tools genuinely query the reference sources, and a second model writes the answer from what was actually read. More than 110 sources sit behind them, including French summaries of product characteristics and the public drug database, the ANSM drug interaction thesaurus, RCPlus (an in-house engine that reads interaction sections of French product summaries where the thesaurus is silent), CRAT and LactMed for pregnancy and breastfeeding, HAS guidance, Legifrance, Meddispar, the reimbursable devices list, CredibleMeds, LiverTox, STOPP/START, DrugCentral, Orphanet and PubMed, plus 13 regional good-use observatories, 52 learned societies and 83 curated professional websites for second-line web search. Each answer displays the references it consulted, and they open in one click.
The chat carries a tool panel: a 157-card dermatology atlas filtered entirely in the browser, a mycology atlas, a paediatric dose calculator, dose equivalences across 21 drug classes, 17 clinical scores, rapid test questionnaires, 113 laboratory parameters, renal function estimation, crushability data for 633 products, over 1,100 dispensing advice cards and a 16-language medical translation mode. Eight paid patient interviews of the French pharmacy convention are templated, scored and exported as PDFs on the pharmacy's own letterhead. A separate, non-clinical assistant, powered by a model from OpenAI or Anthropic served from the EU, handles drafting and image creation on the Expert and Officine plans.
The publisher's own benchmark of 31 July 2026 scores it 197 correct answers out of 200 against six consumer AI systems, and publishes the full question set. It is a browser service with no installation, plus a key-authenticated public API.

The Expert plan is 39.90 EUR per month and the Officine plan 139.90 EUR per month. No VAT is added, the publisher operating under the French small-business exemption. GDPR overview
GDPR implementation is documented in unusual detail for a one-person publisher. The privacy policy, version 2026.12 updated in August 2026, names the controller, the four legal bases, nine subprocessors with their identity, location and guarantees, and twelve retention periods. Access, rectification, erasure, restriction, JSON portability, objection, consent withdrawal and post-mortem instructions are all listed, exercisable in-app or by email within one month. Breach handling follows Articles 33 and 34, with CNIL notification within 72 hours. No data protection officer is appointed, the publisher stating it is not required; the contact address serves instead. Each policy version is frozen and archived with a SHA-256 hash, and a substantial change is resubmitted for acceptance at login.
Who owns the data?
Johan Natter, the sole trader publishing the tool, is the data controller for accounts, conversations, uploaded images and usage data. Users keep ownership of what they submit and grant only a limited licence, for the duration of use, allowing the publisher and its subprocessors to deliver the service. Two carve-outs go the other way: for the interview templates, the saved interview records and the local identity book, the pharmacist is the sole controller and the publisher acts only as a processor on instruction. API customers who act as controllers get the same arrangement under Article 28. Feedback and suggestions, by contrast, become freely exploitable by the publisher.
Reuse rights
Answers may be reused freely in professional practice without asking permission, subject to the terms. Two conditions apply: reuse outside the application, in a document or a communication medium, must state that the content was AI-generated, and answers may not be used to build, train or benchmark a competing service, an obligation that survives five years after the account closes. Bulk extraction of answers, cited sources or database content is likewise forbidden, and the publisher formally opts out of text and data mining on its corpus. Submitted questions are used only to answer them and to run the service; the terms state they are never used to train the AI models, and usage statistics feed quality and product improvement.

Hosting summary
Servers, conversations and logs are hosted in France by Scaleway SAS, 8 rue de la Ville l'Eveque, 75008 Paris, in an environment isolated per pharmacy; the privacy policy describes Scaleway as an ISO 27001 certified host, a certification held by the host and not by the publisher. AI generation runs inside the European Union. Mistral AI processes entirely within the EU. TensorX runs inference on EU infrastructure in Dublin and Helsinki with zero data retention. OpenAI and the OpenRouter gateway are restricted by the publisher to European endpoints only. Google contracts through its Irish entity, but an intervention by Google LLC in the United States remains possible, covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. Stripe Payments Europe in Dublin handles payment, Brevo in France routes emails, and Serper in the United States receives only reformulated search keywords, never the full question, the conversation history or any image.

- Transmitting anything that identifies a patient is contractually forbidden and described as an essential condition of the contract; breaching it exposes the user to suspension and to an indemnity clause
- Answers are AI-generated and the terms warn that errors, omissions and hallucinations are possible: the pharmacist is required to verify systematically, and the pharmaceutical analysis remains the pharmacist's own regulated act
- Convenience can erode habit: a tool that answers in a minute what took ten makes it tempting to stop opening the primary source, exactly when a wrong value would be hardest to notice
- The ISO 27001 certifications quoted belong to Scaleway as host and to TensorX as inference infrastructure, and the PCI-DSS level 1 certification belongs to Stripe; the publisher claims none of them for itself
- OpenRouter and Serper are established in the United States, and an intervention by Google LLC remains possible, so residual transfers exist despite EU-only inference
- The unlimited Officine plan is bounded by a fair-use clause, and no pro-rata refund is given for a started period
- User claims against the publisher are contractually time-barred after twelve months, a shortened limitation period worth knowing before a dispute arises

Very low. Nothing is installed: the service runs in any browser on desktop, tablet or phone, updates itself and needs no maintenance from the pharmacy. The anonymous trial requires not even an email address, and creating an account is announced as a two-minute step, with the pharmacy name optional. PharmAssistant is a narrow, opinionated tool that bets on a single idea: for the questions that turn on an exact value, deterministic business tools beat a general model with a web connection. The bet is testable, and the publisher makes it testable, publishing its whole 200-question benchmark including the items it fails. That intellectual honesty extends to the legal pages, where the privacy policy names nine subprocessors one by one, gives twelve retention periods in days and years, and spells out which side of the controller-processor line each feature falls on. That level of detail is unusual for a publisher this small.
The counterweights are equally clear. This is a sole trader registered on 8 July 2026 whose site first appeared in the web archive seven weeks later, offering no service-level agreement, no customer data processing agreement and no appointed data protection officer, with liability capped at twelve months of subscription. The product is deliberately confined to French territory, in French, for French pharmacy law and French reimbursement rules; nothing about it travels. Its accuracy claim, however transparently documented, is self-produced. And the whole design rests on a contractual prohibition, that no identifiable patient data ever enters the service, which is what lets the publisher stay outside both the medical device regime and HDS health-data hosting certification. That boundary is enforced by terms and by tooling, but ultimately by the pharmacist.
For a French community pharmacy, the entry price is low, the trial is genuinely free and the scope of the reference corpus, down to veterinary medicines, foreign packs and reimbursable devices, is wider than the price suggests. For anyone else, it is simply not the tool.
