Workday Adaptive Planning
Enterprise planning software from Workday, and where the former Adaptive Insights brand now leads. It unifies financial, workforce and operational budgeting, forecasting, scenario modelling and consolidation, adding an embedded AI Planning Agent and connectors to over 300 business systems.
What is Workday Adaptive Planning?
Workday Adaptive Planning is the enterprise planning platform that the adaptiveinsights.com address now leads to. Workday acquired Adaptive Insights in 2018 and renamed the product, a fact the site states plainly in its own FAQ, and the original domain has since served nothing but a permanent redirect.
The product sits in the enterprise performance management and FP&A category, and brings four planning disciplines onto one model: financial planning (budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning, strategic planning and analytics), workforce planning (headcount and cost planning, skills, capacity and talent), operational planning (demand and supply, project and sales planning) and close and consolidation, where consolidation tasks are automated and financial reports refresh in real time.
Underneath sits an in-memory engine Workday calls Elastic Hypercube Technology, which the vendor says adds memory and CPU as workloads grow. Versions and what-if scenarios are advertised as unlimited, with no data limits, a production instance and a non-production instance, an unlimited audit trail and process management. Reporting is self-service: interactive dashboards and reports that refresh on a single click.
AI is embedded rather than bolted on. A Planning Agent responds to conversational prompts for four roles — analyst, planner, modeler and admin — covering variance analysis in plain language, data exploration, scenario modelling, and step-by-step answers drawn from Workday documentation with source attribution. Predictive forecasting combines internal and external data and exposes confidence metrics alongside the drivers behind each forecast. An MCP server lets teams reach the platform from external LLMs such as Claude or ChatGPT. Workday aligns this work with ISO 42001.
Integration is a stated design goal. The vendor says the tool works with any ERP, GL, CRM, HR or PSA system, that over 300 unique systems can connect, and that no other Workday product is required to use it. OfficeConnect and a direct Microsoft Excel link keep spreadsheets in the loop; Snowflake and Incorta are named as data sources.
Workday claims more than 7,000 teams use the product, an average deployment of 4.5 months, and average customer results of 70% shorter planning cycles and 50% higher productivity. Everything described here was read on first-party pages captured between 4 August and 6 September 2026, because workday.com was globally unreachable on the day of review.
What it does
- Build budgets, rolling forecasts and long-range plans on a single shared model
- Run unlimited what-if scenarios, personal or shared, and compare them side by side
- Automate close and consolidation tasks and refresh financial reports in real time
- Plan headcount, workforce cost, skills, capacity and hiring alongside the financial plan
- Publish self-service reports and dashboards that update as the underlying data changes
- Ask the Planning Agent questions in plain language to explain variances and explore data
- Connect an existing ERP, GL, CRM, HCM or PSA and pull its data into the plan
When to use Workday Adaptive Planning / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if Workday Adaptive Planning is the right fit.
When to use Workday Adaptive Planning
- FP&A and corporate finance teams running budgets, rolling forecasts and management reporting
- Financial controllers and reporting managers handling close and consolidation across entities
- HR and people analytics teams building headcount, cost, skills and hiring plans
- Operations, supply and project leaders planning demand, capacity and delivery alongside finance
- Integration and IT teams that need planning data to flow from an existing ERP, GL, CRM or HCM
When not to use Workday Adaptive Planning
- Anyone who needs a published price: all paid tiers are quote-only, so budgeting for the tool itself takes a sales conversation
- Individuals and very small teams looking for personal budgeting or lightweight spreadsheet planning
- Buyers who want to sign up online today: even the trial is granted through a sales form, and deployment averages 4.5 months
- Organisations shopping for an accounting system or an ERP, since the tool plans on top of those rather than replacing them
- Teams with a hard data-residency requirement, because no hosting country or region is published on the public pages
How to use Workday Adaptive Planning
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Open adaptiveinsights.com and let the redirect take you to the Workday Adaptive Planning product page
- Request the 30-day free trial through the sales form, or book a one-to-one demo instead
- Ask for a quote, since none of the paid tiers carries a published price
- If you already commit spend to AWS, ask for the private offer on the AWS Marketplace instead
- Frame the project with the Business Case Builder: value calculator, implementation estimator and RFP template
- Plan for an implementation of roughly 4.5 months, the average Workday quotes for its own customers
- Connect your ERP, GL, CRM, HR or PSA sources through the integration framework and switch on single sign-on
- Build the model: dimensions, drivers, versions and the first set of what-if scenarios
- Install OfficeConnect so reports and presentations pull live figures straight into Excel
- Turn on the embedded AI and start putting questions to the Planning Agent
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Covers finance, workforce, operations and consolidation on a single platform instead of four tools
- Works with any ERP or GL and needs no other Workday product, which keeps it viable outside the Workday suite
- Compliance evidence is unusually detailed and names Adaptive Planning explicitly: SOC 1, 2 and 3, ISO 27001, 27017, 27018 and 27701, ISO 42001, the EU Cloud Code of Conduct, Cyber Essentials Plus, IRAP, TISAX and TX-RAMP
- Unlimited versions and scenarios with no advertised data ceiling
- AI is built into the product rather than sold as a separate copilot, with human-in-the-loop governance stated
- A published subprocessor list with an email notification subscription
- A genuine 30-day trial and 24/7 support included in the standard package
Cons
- No published price at all: both paid tiers read 'Pricing varies' and route to a sales conversation
- No permanent free plan, and even the trial is granted through a form rather than a self-service sign-up
- An average 4.5-month deployment makes this a project, not a purchase
- No hosting country or region is disclosed on the public pages, which is awkward under data-residency rules
- No documented way for a customer to exclude its data from AI model training
- No public support address: individual users are sent back to their own HR or IT department
- The Adaptive Insights brand no longer exists, so anyone arriving from the old domain has to re-learn the product name
Pricing & Plans
There is no permanent free plan. A 30-day free trial is available on request. Neither paid package publishes a figure: both Workday Adaptive Planning and Workday Adaptive Planning Close & Consolidation are listed as 'Pricing varies' and require a quote from Workday, so no entry price or currency can be stated. The product can also be bought as a private offer through the AWS Marketplace, again without a published amount.
- 30-day access
- a guided walkthrough of core planning capabilities
- and a step-by-step guide for planning
- reporting and dashboards
- connects with any ERP or GL
- unlimited versions
- unlimited what-if scenarios
- everything in Adaptive Planning plus close and consolidation capabilities
- AWS Marketplace private offer — an alternative purchasing route that draws down an annual AWS commitment
- with no published amount
Data, GDPR & hosting

GDPR overview
Implementation is documented in concrete terms rather than claimed in general. The privacy statement in force since 27 February 2026 names Workday Limited, Kings Building, 152-155 Church Street, Dublin 7, D07 A0TN, Ireland as the controller for the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, with the Irish Data Protection Commission as competent supervisory authority. Transfers rely on European Commission standard contractual clauses and on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, its UK extension and the Swiss-U.S. framework. Binding Corporate Rules, a Universal Data Protection Exhibit and a subprocessor list are published. Workday Adaptive Planning is in scope for the EU Cloud Code of Conduct (Adherence ID 2019LVL02SCOPE001) and for ISO/IEC 27701 and 27018. Access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction, portability and consent withdrawal are all listed; requests and the DPO go through an online form, with no published email address.
Who owns the data?
Two different documents apply. For the enterprise service, Workday describes a subscription model in which the customer organisation controls the data it and its users put into the platform and how that data is used; Workday acts as processor under its customer contract and states that it does not sell customer users' data or monetise it through advertising. For the public website and the Workday Community, the site terms apply instead: you keep the rights to content you post, but you grant Workday a perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide and sublicensable licence to use, modify, translate, distribute and publicly display it. Site content itself remains owned by Workday or its licensors.
Reuse rights
Inside the planning platform, reuse is governed by the customer contract rather than by the public terms: the customer organisation decides how its data is used, and an individual employee who wants to access, correct or delete personal information is told to approach their own organisation, not Workday. Workday nonetheless collects systems usage information — which products are opened, when, and telemetry around performance — as a controller in its own right, and says this data does not identify users directly unless the customer organisation explicitly instructs otherwise. On the website and Community, anything you post can be reused very broadly by Workday under the licence described in the site terms.

Hosting summary
No hosting country or region is published on any of the pages reviewed, including the pricing, privacy, terms, trust, compliance and subprocessor pages. What Workday does say is that it operates as a global business and may transfer, store or process personal information outside the user's own jurisdiction, applying safeguards when it does. For transfers out of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland to the United States, it relies on standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission, adding contractual, technical and organisational measures where needed, and it adheres to the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, its UK extension and the Swiss-U.S. framework. The controller is Workday Limited in Dublin for the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, and Workday, Inc. in the United States for everyone else. A subprocessor list is published and notifiable by subscription, and the vendor describes a multi-tenant environment with high levels of encryption. The dedicated security page was not reachable at the time of review, so technical hosting detail could not be verified.

Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Workday Adaptive Planning.
- Trusting an AI forecast because it looks precise: confidence metrics are shown, but a number with a confidence band is still a projection
- Letting the Planning Agent replace the modelling skill of the team, so that nobody left can rebuild or challenge the model by hand
- Governance on paper only: Workday states human-in-the-loop review, which works only if someone actually reviews
- Committing to a platform whose price you cannot compare, because no tier is published and every figure comes through a salesperson
- Lock-in through a proprietary model and a multi-month implementation that is expensive to unwind
- Assuming your data stays in your region: no hosting country is published, which is a blind spot under data-residency obligations
- Reading the AI training pledge too generously: the promise is never to share customer data with third-party public models, which says nothing about the vendor's own
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Moderate to heavy, and it is a project rather than a sign-up. There is no self-service onboarding: the trial and the purchase both go through a sales form, and Workday quotes an average deployment of 4.5 months. Once under way, the vendor presents configuration as business-led — automated integrations that reduce dependence on IT, and model building described as requiring no coding. Single sign-on, an integration platform, and production and non-production instances are included, along with training resources, 24/7 support and Workday Community. An administrator training kit is a paid add-on.

Should you pick Workday Adaptive Planning?
Anyone typing adaptiveinsights.com today is redirected, and that redirect is the story. The brand was absorbed by Workday in 2018 and the domain now serves no content of its own. What it leads to, however, is very much alive: Workday Adaptive Planning is still developed, still sold, and has absorbed a serious amount of AI work, from a conversational Planning Agent to predictive forecasting and an MCP server that opens the platform to external models.
As a product it is convincing where enterprise planning tools usually struggle. It does not require the rest of the Workday suite, it connects to any ERP or GL, and its compliance evidence names Adaptive Planning explicitly rather than hiding behind a corporate umbrella — SOC reports, four ISO information-security and privacy standards, ISO 42001 for AI management, and the EU Cloud Code of Conduct with a published adherence ID. For a regulated finance function, that paper trail matters.
The reservations are commercial and informational rather than technical. Nothing about the price is public, the trial is gated behind a sales form, and an average 4.5-month deployment puts this firmly in project territory. Two gaps stand out for a buyer with obligations: no hosting country or region is disclosed anywhere on the public pages, and no mechanism is documented for excluding customer data from model training — the public commitment covers only third-party public models.
One caveat on this review itself. On 8 September 2026 the whole of workday.com returned server errors from every network path tested, so the product content here was read on archived first-party captures from 4 August to 6 September 2026. The facts are the vendor's own, but they are a few weeks old and worth re-checking once the site is reachable again.
