What is BrainGrid?
BrainGrid is an app-building platform that puts a planning layer in front of the code. Its argument is blunt: tools that turn a one-line prompt straight into an application leave you patching a product that falls apart around the third feature. BrainGrid inverts the order. A Planning Agent interrogates the idea, asks the clarifying questions you did not think of, and turns the answers into an engineering-grade requirement - goals, context, data model, edge cases and acceptance criteria - together with a readiness score you approve before anything is built.
From the approved plan, two roads open. The default is BrainGrid Cloud, where a Builder Agent runs Claude Code in an isolated sandbox against the specification, shows a live preview and opens a pull request. The alternative keeps your own tooling: the same specification travels over the MCP server or the npm CLI into Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Codex or Gemini, in your repository and your environment, with copy-paste handoff for Lovable and Replit. Nothing ties the plan to one agent.
Verification is where the product stakes its claim. Every acceptance criterion is checked and the evidence attached - test runs, screenshots, a recorded flow - so that done means proven rather than asserted. What ships goes live on BrainGrid Cloud with hosting, sign-in, database and transactional email handled, its own public URL, and every later change running the same loop. The site names its five stages: Frame, Spec, Scope, Load, Verify.
The tool is aimed at people who know what they want but not how to build it - non-technical founders, vibe coders, solo builders - while remaining usable by developers who simply want a rigorous specification. GDPR overview
Concrete and documented, with two reservations. The legal centre displays a GDPR Compliant - Active badge, and the privacy policy sets out the legal bases (contract, legitimate interest, consent, legal obligation) along with EEA rights: access, rectification, erasure, portability, restriction, objection and complaint to a supervisory authority. Transfers are covered by standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission, and a Data Processing Addendum is published, carrying EU and UK SCC modules and a named list of fifteen sub-processors. Breach notification is promised within 72 hours. The reservations: no Article 27 representative is designated anywhere on the site, and the privacy policy, in version 1.0 dated 24 July 2025, still invokes Privacy Shield principles, a framework invalidated in 2020.
Who owns the data?
The terms state that you retain all rights, title and interest in your Customer Content, and that the publisher claims no ownership of anything you submit. The security documentation extends this to the output: requirements, tasks and generated documentation belong to you, and BrainGrid makes no intellectual property claim on them. The privacy policy repeats it for source code and derived insights. In exchange you grant BrainGrid a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free and sublicensable licence, limited to what is necessary to operate the service. Feedback is treated differently: suggestions you send are covered by an unlimited, perpetual and irrevocable licence, without compensation.
Reuse rights
Yes, and without asking. Because you keep ownership of your Customer Content and of everything the agents produce, you can reuse the specifications, tasks, documentation and code freely, commercial use included, with no permission from BrainGrid. The licence granted to the publisher runs the other way and is capped at operating the service: reproducing, processing and displaying your content so the platform can work. The privacy policy adds that repository code is analysed in isolated, temporary environments destroyed after processing, that each customer is isolated from the others, and that model and algorithm improvement is carried out without using your code. The stated exception is feedback, which the publisher may reuse for any purpose.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
BrainGrid states that its services are hosted in the United States, and that reaching them from elsewhere transfers your information there. The primary database is PostgreSQL on Supabase, located in the United States, SOC 2 Type II certified, encrypted at rest with AES-256 and backed up daily with 90-day retention. The application runs on Vercel's SOC 2 Type II infrastructure across a global edge network with built-in DDoS protection; large content goes to Vercel Blob storage, again in the United States, behind signed URLs with time-based expiry. Google Cloud Platform handles asynchronous processing through Cloud Tasks, while Upstash and Redis cover caching, sessions, queues and rate limiting. Fifteen sub-processors are named in the Data Processing Addendum, all located in the United States except Anthropic, listed as USA and UK. On residency, the documentation offers primary data centres in US regions and GDPR-compliant processing for the European Union, with international transfers covered by standard contractual clauses, but no European hosting option is offered.

- Approving a plan you have not really read transfers responsibility without transferring understanding: the readiness score measures the specification, not your grasp of it
- Skill erosion: letting an agent write both the plan and the code can leave you unable to judge, debug or maintain the product you own
- Evidence can be trusted too far - a passing acceptance criterion proves the criterion, not that the criterion was the right one
- Credit consumption makes cost a moving target, and the temptation to re-run a build can turn a fixed subscription into an open-ended budget
- You own the output, but the terms grant a broad operating licence over your content, and any feedback you send is licensed perpetually and irrevocably
- All processing happens in the United States, which may be unacceptable for personal data collected in the European Union
- Handing repository, Slack and Linear tokens to a third-party platform widens your attack surface, however scoped the permissions are

Low on the cloud route, moderate on the local one. Building in BrainGrid Cloud needs nothing but a browser and a paid account: planning, building, verification and hosting all happen in the console. Working in your own repository means installing the npm CLI globally, then running braingrid login and braingrid init in the project; if Claude Code or Cursor is present, the integration is offered automatically. Connecting GitHub goes through an app installation, and an MCP server is documented for web environments where the CLI cannot run, although the documentation recommends the CLI.
