Voilà is a general-purpose AI assistant that opens on top of any website or application. Available as a browser extension, desktop app, mobile web app and web chat, it handles writing, email, research and summarization in context.
What is Voilà?
Voilà is a general-purpose AI assistant published by Useful collective s.r.o., a Czech company based in Prague, and online since early 2023. Its central idea is that you should not have to change tools: Voilà opens on top of the site or application you are already working in and reads the context of the page, instead of asking you to copy your work into a separate chat window.
It runs on several surfaces. There is a browser extension for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave and Safari, a desktop application for Windows and macOS still labelled a Preview release, a mobile progressive web app added to the home screen rather than installed from a store, and a plain web app that needs nothing installed. In the browser, typing 'voila' followed by a space or a tab in the address bar opens the assistant directly.
The engine is OpenAI. GPT-5.6 has been the default since 12 July 2026, after a documented succession of GPT-4o (May 2024), GPT-4o mini (July 2024), GPT-4.1 (April 2025), GPT-5 (August 2025) and GPT-5.5 (May 2026). Beyond a fair-usage threshold of roughly 500,000 words per month, requests fall back to GPT-5 mini. Users who supply their own OpenRouter key also reach Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Claude 3 Haiku, o1-mini, o1-preview and Gemini Pro.
Around the model sits a library of expert prompts covering 26 named deliverables, from ad campaigns and landing page copy to project charters, release notes and market research reports. Custom actions let you save a prompt, target part of a page with a CSS selector and pick a model and an output language per action, while Personas apply a reusable personality globally. Voilà also chats with documents and spreadsheets in eleven file formats, chats with images, generates images from text, summarizes and transcribes YouTube videos, and runs Deep Search with links to its sources. Conversation history can be searched, renamed, exported, favourited and shared by link, and Voilà Automate fires webhooks from a custom action to Zapier, Make.com or a custom endpoint. A team offer adds shared libraries, shared workflows and a pooled request allowance. The site claims more than 100,000 users and a 4.9 rating from over 250 reviews republished from AppSumo.

GDPR overview
Voilà displays 'GDPR Compliant' and 'CCPA Ready' badges on its home page and repeats the claim on its teams page. The privacy policy names Useful collective s.r.o. as controller, contactable at hello@getvoila.ai, and sets out rights of access, rectification, portability, erasure, objection and restriction of processing, plus an unsubscribe route against direct marketing. The Czech supervisory authority is named: the Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů, Pplk. Sochora 27, 170 00 Prague 7. Subprocessors are disclosed: OpenAI, Microsoft Azure, Paddle, Google Analytics and PostHog. No Article 27 representative is designated, which is consistent with an establishment inside the European Union, and no data protection officer is appointed. Three gaps remain: no published DPA, no declared hosting country or region, and no described transfer mechanism such as standard contractual clauses, although the AI subprocessors are US-based.
Who owns the data?
The terms of use claim all intellectual property rights in the Services themselves, including text, graphics, logos and trademarks, for the publisher Useful collective s.r.o. or its licensors. Neither the terms nor the privacy policy contains any clause assigning ownership of the content users submit or of the AI output they receive: the question is simply not addressed, which is a fact to note rather than a guarantee in the user's favour. The publisher states that content and AI conversations are never stored on its servers. Requests are processed through the OpenAI API and Microsoft Azure, whose own terms govern that processing.
Reuse rights
Creating an account collects an email address, a hashed password, a location and an IP address; contacting support adds a full name, an email address, a location, a device type and an operating system. The stated purpose is to perform and execute the service and to personalise the experience, on the legal bases of performing the terms, meeting legal obligations and revocable consent. Data may be shared with regulators and authorities under a validated request, transferred in a merger, acquisition or bankruptcy, and passed to third parties with the user's consent. Payments run through Paddle and are not stored or processed on the publisher's servers; Google Analytics and PostHog record visit frequency, page views and referring site, while cookies and anonymous identifiers support personalisation. User content is never used to train the AI. As for the outputs, the documents place no restriction on what users do with what they generate, but they grant no explicit reuse licence either: the point is left unaddressed.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
The publisher names no hosting country and no hosting region anywhere in its privacy policy, its terms of use or its teams page: there is no data residency statement to report. What it does state is that user content and AI conversations are not stored on its servers, that sensitive information is encrypted in transit over SSL, that access is limited and networks are secured, and that vulnerability scans are run regularly. The account data that is kept, namely email address, hashed password, location and IP address, sits with a controller established in Prague, Useful collective s.r.o., which places the controller under Czech and European Union jurisdiction even though the location of the servers is not disclosed. The disclosed subprocessors handling data are OpenAI, Microsoft Azure, Paddle, Google Analytics and PostHog. Separately, and not as a publisher declaration, a network probe run on 24 August 2026 showed the domain resolving to 15.197.246.237, an Amazon.com (AS16509) anycast node geolocated in Seattle, United States. That reflects the website infrastructure only and says nothing certain about where user data is processed or stored.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Voilà.
- Convenience can turn into dependence: an assistant available on every page makes it easy to stop drafting, summarising and checking things yourself, and skills that go unused tend to fade.
- Outputs come with the fluency of a language model but not its certainty. Deep Search cites its sources precisely because answers still have to be verified before they are used or published.
- No DPA is published and no hosting country or region is declared, while the AI subprocessors (OpenAI, Microsoft Azure) are American and no transfer mechanism outside the European Union is described: a real question for confidential or personal data pasted into the assistant.
- The legal documents are old relative to the product. The terms of use are dated 28 February 2023, the privacy policy carries no effective date, and the two texts disagree on age, the terms requiring 18 years while the privacy policy sets a floor at 13.
- Commercial terms are strict: purchases are final apart from a written refund request within 24 hours, and liability is capped at the higher of twelve months of subscription fees or 100 USD.
