Sortbase
Sortbase is a Chrome extension that gathers ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok into one workspace: cross-platform folders, a prompt library with variables, full-text search, and one-click transfer of a whole conversation from one model to another.
What is Sortbase?
Sortbase is a browser extension for desktop Chromium browsers, published by Sortbase LLC of Austin, Texas and distributed through the Chrome Web Store. It does one thing: it turns the four AI chat interfaces most people actually use, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok, into a single organised workspace, without asking you to adopt a new application or a second login. The problem it addresses is stated bluntly on the homepage: native AI history is a bottomless pit, and one closed tab is enough to lose the thread you needed. The answer comes as four capabilities delivered from a sidebar injected into each platform's own interface. Folders that cross platforms. Chats from all four models go into the same nested tree, with unlimited folders and subfolders. Each conversation keeps a marker showing which model it came from, while the organisation itself is unified: one folder for the project, every model inside it. One-click transfer between models. Click the forward icon on a saved chat, pick a destination, and the whole conversation arrives in the new model as a Sortbase-branded attachment, with no copy-paste and no context lost in the handoff. A prompt library with variables. You build your own library rather than receiving a prewritten pack; placeholders written as {{variable}} are filled in as you insert the prompt, and typing a colon in any supported chat box opens the library exactly where you are typing. Full-text search. Keyword search runs across every saved conversation on every model, with filters by folder and by model. Everything syncs to each Chrome window after one sign-in, over an encrypted backend. Installation is advertised at under thirty seconds and needs no API key and no configuration; the extension activates on its own as soon as a supported platform is opened. Version 3.1.7, dated 2 August 2026, weighs 4.84 MiB and is published in 51 languages. The Chrome Web Store listing shows 10,000 users and a 4.0 rating from 420 reviews, while the site claims more than 19,000 installs. Sortbase is an independent product, not affiliated with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or xAI.

When to use Sortbase
- Executives juggling board prep, M&A research and briefings who need every thread filed by initiative
- Software engineers keeping one folder per repo or service and moving a debug thread from Claude to Grok
- Lawyers working matter by matter and reusing prompt templates for memos, redlines and discovery review
- Bankers and finance analysts building deal folders and searching model-review or earnings threads across models
- Students, professors and researchers filing chats by class, paper or grant and comparing answers across models
When not to use Sortbase
- Safari, Firefox or mobile-only users: Sortbase runs in desktop Chromium browsers and nowhere else
- Teams wanting a shared workspace, an admin console, SSO or per-seat billing, none of which exists
- Organisations that require a data processing agreement, EU data residency or a named GDPR Article 27 representative
- Anyone whose main assistant is not ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok, the only four platforms supported today
- Buyers who want a one-off lifetime licence, or a large prewritten prompt pack rather than a library they build themselves
How to use Sortbase
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Open the Chrome Web Store listing and click Add to Chrome; setup is advertised at under thirty seconds
- Work from a desktop Chromium browser; on a phone, ask the site to email you a one-click install link for your laptop
- Sign in with the email magic link, or with a Google account: there is no password to create
- Answer the short onboarding questions about which platforms you use, what you use AI for and how often
- Open ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok and let the Sortbase sidebar activate on its own
- Build folders and subfolders, then save each conversation into the branch it belongs to
- Type a colon in a chat box to open your prompt library, and fill the variables as they are requested
- Use keyword search to find any saved chat, narrowing by folder or by model
- Click the forward icon on a chat to send the full thread to another model
- Manage or cancel the subscription from the settings inside the extension; cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Covers all four major chat models in a single tree, which none of the tools on its own comparison pages does
- Moves an entire thread from one model to another in a click, where bookmarks, native history and note apps cannot
- States in both the privacy policy and the terms that user content never trains AI models
- Names its seven subprocessors with their purpose and the data sent, and justifies every browser permission it requests
- Flat pricing at 10 USD a month or 100 USD a year, with no seats, no tiers and no quotas
- Fourteen-day trial of every premium feature, plus a full right of withdrawal for EU, EEA and UK consumers
- Identifiable publisher: named company, postal address, phone number, D-U-N-S number and a verified Chrome Web Store record
Cons
- Desktop Chromium only: no Safari, no Firefox and no mobile app
- No GDPR framework published, no Article 27 representative and no data processing agreement
- Data is hosted in the United States alone, with no residency option and no self-hosting
- No permanent free plan is advertised: premium features stop when the fourteen days end
- A chat's title and the first 600 characters of its first message go to a third party, Anthropic, for categorisation
- Usage events and error logs are kept indefinitely, and there is no team plan, admin console or SSO
- The publisher contradicts itself on whether a card is required to start the trial, and its install figures differ from the Chrome Web Store's
Pricing & Plans
Installing the extension from the Chrome Web Store is free, and every new account opens with a fourteen-day trial of all premium features during which nothing is charged. No permanent free plan is advertised: once the trial ends the paid features stop until a subscription is taken, although folders, chats and prompts already saved remain viewable, searchable and reorganisable. The lowest paid entry point is 10.00 USD per month, with the same single plan available at 100.00 USD per year. Prices are quoted exclusive of tax, and payment is handled by Stripe.
- adding the extension from the Chrome Web Store costs nothing
- every premium feature
- one trial per person
- no charge during the period
- 10.00 USD per month
- renewing automatically until cancelled
- 100.00 USD per year for the same single feature set
- the terms provide for longer free periods
- charged at the end of that period
Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how Sortbase handles your data.
GDPR overview
Sortbase publishes no GDPR framework at all. The regulation is never named anywhere on the site, no Article 27 representative is designated, no data processing agreement is offered and no transfer mechanism is cited. That silence, rather than any refusal, is why the compliance flag on this record reads N. What does exist is a versioned privacy policy (2.13, effective 11 August 2026) granting every user access to their data and deletion of the account within thirty days, a dedicated California CCPA/CPRA section, and section 5a of the terms, which gives EU, EEA and UK consumers a fourteen-day right of withdrawal with a full refund and no proportionate deduction. Data is hosted in the United States only. European buyers with compliance duties should ask before subscribing.
Who owns the data?
Section 7 of the terms is explicit: the chats, folders and prompts you create or save through Sortbase are Your Content, and Sortbase LLC claims no ownership of them. You grant the company a limited, non-exclusive licence to host, store, transmit and display that content for one purpose only, operating the service for you: syncing your folders across devices, or forwarding a thread to another model when you ask for it. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for routine backups that age out on a normal cycle. You remain responsible for your content and for holding the rights to use it. The extension, the site, the name and the branding stay the property of Sortbase LLC.
Reuse rights
Nothing in the terms limits what you do with your own material: the chats, folders and prompts remain yours, and no permission is needed to reuse, rewrite or move them elsewhere. What the terms restrict is the service itself. You may not resell, sublicense or commercially redistribute Sortbase, reverse-engineer it, or use it in breach of the rules of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok, whose own terms keep applying to the conversations you hold there. On the publisher's side the use is deliberately narrow: a conversation only reaches the servers when you save it to a folder or forward it, unsaved chats stay on your device, event tracking is stripped of message text, prompt text, email addresses and tokens, and the policy states plainly that none of your content is used to train AI models, sold, or turned into advertising.

Hosting summary
Every persistent piece of data sits with a named provider, each listed in the privacy policy with its purpose and the data sent to it. The database, authentication and file storage run on Supabase in the us-west-1 region, holding account information, saved chats, folders, prompts, settings and usage events. The website and the API are hosted on Vercel's global edge, which keeps standard request logs. Stripe handles payments, Resend sends transactional email and Google OAuth backs the optional sign-in, all described as global or global US. The Meta Pixel runs on the marketing site only, and only after cookie consent. Anthropic receives a chat title and up to 600 characters for use-case categorisation, with no account identifier attached. Data is encrypted in transit with TLS and at rest with AES-256 on Supabase. The jurisdiction is therefore the United States throughout, and the terms place any dispute under Texas law and the courts of Travis County. No European region, no residency choice and no self-hosting option is offered.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Sortbase.
- The tool makes hoarding effortless: a folder tree stuffed with chats you never reopen replaces one problem with another
- One-click transfer between models quietly invites shopping for the answer you wanted instead of checking whether the first was right
- A chat's title and the first 600 characters of its first message are sent to Anthropic for categorisation, disclosed but never explicitly triggered by you
- Saved conversations leave your machine for servers in the United States, and usage events and error logs are kept indefinitely
- The extension holds broad permissions on the four AI platforms, covering cookies, request observation and navigation, documented but wide
- With no GDPR framework published, filing client, patient or employee material into Sortbase may breach your own organisation's rules
- The publisher contradicts itself on whether a card is taken when the trial starts, and warns that platform changes can break features at any time
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Very easy. Installation is one click from the Chrome Web Store, advertised at under thirty seconds, with no API key, no configuration file and nothing to host. Signing in is a passwordless email magic link, or a Google account, followed by a handful of onboarding questions. The sidebar then activates by itself the moment you open ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok. The only real prerequisite is a desktop Chromium browser: from a phone, the site emails you an install link for your laptop instead. Version 3.1.7 weighs 4.84 MiB.

Should you pick Sortbase?
Sortbase is a narrow tool that does its one job well. It files the conversations you hold with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok into a single folder tree, searches them all at once, keeps a prompt library that follows you from platform to platform, and moves a whole thread from one model to another in a click. That last capability is the one none of the alternatives it compares itself against can match. Everything else is deliberately small: one install, one sign-in, one flat price, no configuration. The publisher is identifiable and the paperwork is unusually complete for a product this young. A named Texas company with a postal address, a phone number and a D-U-N-S number; a privacy policy and terms both versioned and dated 11 August 2026; seven named subprocessors with the data sent to each; and a permission-by-permission account of what the extension can see. The Chrome Web Store shows a verified publisher, 10,000 users and a 4.0 rating from 420 reviews. Three reservations deserve weighing first. Nothing on the site mentions the GDPR, and there is no Article 27 representative, no processing agreement and no European hosting, which makes the tool awkward for an organisation with compliance duties even though the terms do grant EU, EEA and UK consumers a full right of withdrawal. This is also a single-user desktop product: no Safari, no Firefox, no mobile app, no team plan. And the brand is very recent, its domain registered in January 2026 in place of an earlier one from June 2024, so the published install counts and the vendor's own contradictory wording about the trial deserve the caution any young product earns.
