Overview

What is FYI.AI?

FYI stands for Focus Your Ideas: a communication and collaboration platform published by FYI.FYI, Inc. in Los Angeles, founded and led by will.i.am with Lee Chan as COO, and aimed at the creative community rather than at general office work.

The product rests on four blocks. Messaging announces no file-size limit, sorts threads by contact or by project, translates messages automatically, and turns voice notes into transcribed, translated, searchable items. Content Calls are 1-1 or group audio and video sessions for up to eight people with media shared live; Sync Mode keeps everyone's zoom, scroll and playback aligned, and the call history preserves every file exchanged. Projects hold hi-res files, videos, links, images, music, text, documents and galleries, with editor and guest roles and private or public visibility; a public Project gets a custom link that opens in a browser, so the same container can serve as a portfolio, a lookbook, an interactive presentation or a live album. FYI.AI is the creative co-pilot: it writes stories, lyrics, blog posts and marketing copy, generates images through AI Art, speaks through selectable voice personas, and can sit inside a group chat to summarise a thread or retrieve a buried detail. A calendar tracks deadlines and deliverables, and RAiDiO.FYI adds interactive AI-driven music stations.

Security is the other claim: chats, Projects and calls are said to be end-to-end encrypted, ECDHE generating a secret key per thread and per file, ECDSA signing and verifying messages, a scheme the company compares to the cryptography behind Bitcoin and Ethereum. FYI runs on IBM Cloud, and a collaboration with IBM Consulting to integrate watsonx was announced on 27 August 2023.

Distribution is store-only: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac and Apple Vision through the App Store, where FYI sits in Productivity and scores 4.7/5 from 166 ratings, and Android through Google Play, listed under Communication with more than 50,000 downloads and 3.1/5 from 511 reviews. The app is free, with no in-app purchase announced; the terms do provide for subscriptions and creator revenue sharing, neither of which is publicly active. There is no API, no developer documentation and no web client for everyday use.

Audience

When to use FYI.AI / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if FYI.AI is the right fit.

When to use FYI.AI

  • Distributed creative teams in music, film, design, fashion or visual arts that want conversation, files and review in a single shared space
  • Independent creators who run their projects, their assets and their client relationships from a phone
  • Collectives that trade heavy files every day, since the chat announces no file-size limit
  • Artists and studios who need to present work as a portfolio, a lookbook, a pitch deck or a live album through a public Project link
  • Remote working sessions of up to eight participants, where Sync Mode keeps everyone on the same frame, scroll and playback

When not to use FYI.AI

  • Engineering and IT teams that need to plug the tool into an existing system: there is no public API and no developer documentation
  • Anyone who works mainly in a browser, since everyday use goes through the mobile or desktop app and only public Projects open on the web
  • European organisations with a procurement checklist: no GDPR statement, no Article 27 representative, no data processing agreement and no subprocessor list
  • Users who want their content excluded from model training, as the terms grant FYI an aggregated, de-identified training licence with no documented opt-out
  • Under-16s, who are not allowed on the service, and buyers who need visibility on the long-term cost of professional use, as no paid tier or pricing page is published

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Four tools in one: messaging, calls, asset management and an AI assistant, without jumping between applications
  • Free on both stores, with no in-app purchase announced
  • End-to-end encryption documented at algorithm level (ECDHE, ECDSA), with the private key kept on the user's side
  • No announced file-size limit in chat, a rare argument for creators who exchange heavy material
  • Sync Mode and the automatic call history, two functions that most messaging apps simply do not have
  • Built-in translation of messages and of voice notes, which are also transcribed
  • Available across the whole Apple range including Mac and Apple Vision plus Android, running on IBM Cloud with a publicly announced IBM watsonx collaboration, and rated 4.7/5 from 166 App Store ratings with a publisher who answers reviews

Cons

  • No pricing page: the terms describe subscriptions and a creator revenue share, yet no amount is public
  • No API and no developer documentation, and no web version for everyday use
  • No mention of GDPR compliance, no data processing agreement, no subprocessor list and no EU representative
  • The terms allow content to be used, aggregated and de-identified, to train FYI's models, with no documented opt-out
  • Targeted advertising and sharing with advertising partners are described in the privacy policy, in tension with the Google Play declaration that no data is shared with third parties
  • A privacy policy dated April 2023, cut off mid-sentence in the section on international transfers, and a help centre (help.fyi.me, Zendesk) that cannot be consulted directly
  • 3.1/5 from 511 Google Play reviews with recurring complaints about voice interaction, App Store version numbers still below 1.0, English as the only verifiable interface language, and no link to an official social account on the site

Pricing & Plans

There is a free plan and no paid tier is currently on sale, so no lowest price point can be quoted. The application is listed at no cost on both the App Store and Google Play, no in-app purchase appears on the App Store listing, and the website publishes no pricing page and no amount in any currency. The terms of service nevertheless set out a paid framework: an automatically renewing subscription mechanism, cancelled through Account Settings or by writing to help@fyi.fyi, with no pro-rata refund, together with a creator revenue share under which FYI collects gross revenue, deducts card processing fees and retains an unspecified percentage. The privacy policy states that subscription payment options are pending, and Stripe is named as the payment processor. Section 5.8 of the terms provides a generic clause for free trials and promotions, but no active offer was identified.

Free
  • the only access level actually available
  • on the App Store and on Google Play
  • with no in-app purchase listed
No paid tier is published
  • the terms of service refer to a paid level of access and to a service subscription fee without naming them
  • pricing them or stating a billing period
Special offers — No special offer is published: the site advertises no student, non-profit or hardship pricing, and section 5.8 of the terms only sets a generic framework for free trials and promotions, with no active offer identified. The application itself is free to download on both stores.
Prices and plans listed above may evolve. Always check the official pricing page before subscribing.
Trust & Privacy

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how FYI.AI handles your data.

GDPR overview

There is no GDPR implementation to report. Across the entire site, terms and privacy policy included, the words GDPR, DPO, standard contractual clauses and Article 27 never appear. No EU representative is designated, no data processing agreement is offered, no subprocessor list is published. The rights actually spelled out are Californian: a Shine the Light request under California Civil Code 1798.83, addressed to info@fyi.fyi. Practical controls are open to everyone, including reviewing and updating the account, unsubscribing from marketing, deleting content and requesting account closure by contacting the publisher. The minimum age is 16, with a deletion procedure when a parent reports an account. The publisher is based in the United States and states that personal data may be transferred there. The privacy policy is dated V2. 4.28.2023; the terms were updated on 24 March 2026.

Who owns the data?

Under the terms, you keep ownership of Your Content. Posting it grants FYI.FYI, Inc. a licence to host, display and distribute it so the service can operate for you and for other users, and, on an aggregated, de-identified basis, to improve FYI's machine learning models and artificial intelligence algorithms. All right, title and interest in those models are retained by FYI. Anything you place in a public area of the service may be searched, seen, used, modified and reproduced by other users. Encryption keys are treated differently: the App Store listing states that only you have access to your private key, not even FYI.

Reuse rights

The privacy policy describes a broad collection: contact, demographic and account details, phone contacts if you grant access, communications, marketing preferences, user-generated content and its metadata, plus automatically gathered device data, IP address, advertising identifiers, online activity and email pixel interactions. The stated purposes run from delivering and improving the service to personalisation, security, support, research and development, direct marketing, targeted advertising, contests and events, and legal compliance; Google Analytics is named for audience measurement. Data may be shared with service providers, payment processors, third-party advertising partners, business partners, recipients you designate, professional advisers, authorities and any acquirer of the business. Do Not Track signals are not honoured. The terms also state that FYI may share your Prompts, which are passed to third-party language models to produce outputs. One inconsistency deserves attention: the Google Play Data safety card declares that no data is shared with third parties, while the privacy policy describes sharing with advertising partners.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
No retention period is given in figures. The privacy policy sets out criteria instead of deadlines: the amount, nature and sensitivity of the data, the risk of harm from unauthorised use, the purposes of the processing, whether those purposes can be achieved by other means, and applicable legal requirements. Once the information is no longer needed, FYI says it may delete it, anonymise it, or isolate it from further processing. The terms add that FYI may impose limits on file size, storage space and content processing capacity. On the user side, some content can be deleted directly from the account, and account closure is requested by contacting the publisher. Files shared during a call stay in the user's private call history. Nothing indicates how long a message, a Project or an asset actually remains on FYI's servers.

Hosting summary

FYI runs on IBM Cloud, according to the press release of 27 August 2023 announcing the collaboration with IBM Consulting; no region, availability zone or named data centre is given. The publisher is established in the United States, and the privacy policy states that personal information may be transferred to the United States or to other locations. The website itself resolves to 8.230.116.155, an address located in Dallas, United States, on a Google LLC network. No data residency option is offered, and no hosting certification such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001 is mentioned anywhere on the site. What the company does document is protection rather than geography: end-to-end encryption of chats, Projects and calls, with the private key held on the user's side. In practice, expect United States jurisdiction by default, with the precise hosting location undisclosed.

Not available in

No geographic restriction is announced. The site sets no country limit, the App Store listing was consulted on the United States storefront and the Google Play listing from the Luxembourg storefront, and both responded. The terms designate Californian law and an exclusive forum in California, without restricting access from anywhere.
Watch-outs

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting FYI.AI.

  • Your content feeds the models: the terms allow FYI to use it, aggregated and de-identified, to improve its machine learning models, FYI keeps all rights in those models, and no opt-out is documented anywhere
  • Your prompts may be passed to third-party language models, whose own conditions may in turn allow reuse of what you typed
  • Anything placed in a public area can be searched, used, modified and reproduced by other users, and a public Project link opens in any browser, so it can be copied or indexed well beyond the app
  • Targeted advertising and sharing with advertising partners are described in the privacy policy, which sits awkwardly next to the Google Play declaration that no data is shared with third parties
  • The terms impose mandatory arbitration with a class action waiver, escapable only by posting a letter to Los Angeles within 30 days, and cap the publisher's liability at 100 dollars where nothing has been paid
  • Concentration and dependence: one app holding your conversations, your archive and your creative assistant makes it easy to let the machine draft the lyrics, the copy and the images, and the habit of writing a first version yourself fades faster than you notice
  • Little recourse if you want to check what happens to your work: no data processing agreement, no subprocessor list, no EU representative, a help centre that answers 403, and a privacy policy untouched since 28 April 2023 and truncated in the middle of its international transfers section
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Very low. Setup is consumer-grade: download from the App Store or Google Play, create an account, and you are in. There is no API key to generate, no server to configure and no workspace to deploy. The only choices to make are whether to grant access to your phone contacts, how visible each Project should be, whether to turn on AI in Projects, and which AI voice persona to use. The friction is learning rather than installation: no public technical documentation is available and the help centre cannot be reached directly, so discovery happens inside the app.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is FYI.AI free?
Yes. The application is free to download on both the App Store and Google Play, and no in-app purchase is listed. The terms of service set out a framework for subscriptions and for a creator revenue share, but no amount is published and no paid tier is currently available.
Which platforms does FYI.AI run on?
iPhone, iPad and iPod touch on iOS and iPadOS 15.0 or later, Mac on macOS 10.15 or later, Apple Vision on visionOS 1.0 or later, and Android through Google Play. There is no web application for everyday use; only public Projects open in a browser, through their custom link.
What exactly does the AI do?
FYI.AI writes text such as stories, song lyrics, blog posts and marketing copy, generates images with AI Art, speaks through selectable voice personas, joins group chats to summarise conversations and surface information, can be applied to a workflow through AI in Projects, and powers the interactive RAiDiO.FYI music stations.
Is my content used to train the models?
Yes. The terms grant FYI a licence to use your content on an aggregated, de-identified basis to improve its machine learning models and artificial intelligence algorithms, and all right, title and interest in those models are retained by FYI. No opt-out from that training is documented on the site.
Are conversations encrypted?
FYI describes end-to-end encryption, with ECDHE generating a secret key per thread and per file and ECDSA signing and verifying messages. The App Store listing states that only you have access to your private key, not even FYI.
Is there an API?
No. No public API, SDK or developer documentation was found on the site; the only occurrences of the word developer come from the app store listings.
What is the minimum age to use FYI.AI?
16, according to the privacy policy, which also describes a deletion procedure when a parent reports an account belonging to a younger user.
Is FYI.AI GDPR compliant?
The site never says so. No mention of the GDPR appears anywhere, terms and privacy policy included, and there is no data processing agreement, no subprocessor list and no Article 27 representative in the European Union. The rights explicitly offered are those of Californian law.
How many people can join a call?
Up to eight participants in a Content Call, one to one or in a group, with media shared during the call and Sync Mode keeping everyone on the same zoom, scroll and playback.
Who publishes FYI.AI and how do I get support?
FYI.FYI, Inc., at 10960 Wilshire Blvd., 5th Floor, Los Angeles, California 90024, founded and led by will.i.am. Support goes through help@fyi.fyi; the help centre at help.fyi.me is not freely accessible.
Conclusion

Should you pick FYI.AI?

FYI.AI has a clear premise: put in one application what creatives currently scatter across a messenger, a cloud drive, a video tool and an AI assistant. The execution has real signatures. Sync Mode and the automatic call history solve problems most messaging apps ignore, chat imposes no announced file-size limit, encryption is documented at algorithm level with the private key held by the user, and the whole thing is free on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Vision and Android. Industrial credibility counts too: FYI runs on IBM Cloud, a watsonx collaboration with IBM Consulting was announced in August 2023, and the company is founded and led by will.i.am.

The reservations are just as concrete. Data governance is thinly documented: the terms let FYI use content, aggregated and de-identified, to improve its own models, with no opt-out published; there is no API, no pricing page, and a privacy policy last revised in April 2023 that stops mid-sentence in the section on international transfers. Maturity shows too, with App Store versions still numbered below 1.0 and a gap between ratings on iOS (4.7/5) and Android (3.1/5).

Our reading: FYI.AI is worth trying if you are an independent creator or a small creative team already working from a phone, and you value having conversation, files and an assistant in one encrypted place more than you value contractual guarantees. It is harder to recommend to an organisation with a procurement process, an EU compliance requirement, or a need to integrate anything through an API. Treat it as a creative workspace, keep truly sensitive material elsewhere, and read the terms again when a paid tier finally appears.
