MecaCall
AI phone assistant for the motor trade. It answers calls a garage cannot pick up, qualifies the vehicle and the request, then drops each enquiry sorted into a triage feed. Covers repair shops, body shops, testing centres and tyre fitters.
What is MecaCall?
MecaCall is an AI telephone assistant aimed squarely at the motor trade, published by the French company WINDFALL. It exists to solve one narrow problem: in a workshop of fewer than a dozen people, the phone rings while the owner is under a lift or in a spray booth, nobody answers, and the caller dials the next garage on the map.
The product sits behind the workshop's existing number. Rather than porting anything, the garage activates a call forwarding on no answer using an operator code typed into the handset. If the professional picks up, nothing changes. If not, MecaCall takes over, introduces itself under the garage's name and holds a spoken conversation. It asks the questions a service advisor would ask (make, model, mileage, symptoms), answers routine queries from a knowledge base the workshop fills in, and captures the caller's contact details.
Each call then arrives as a sorted entry in a triage feed, classified by type: booking request, repair follow-up, estimate or diagnosis, emergency. The professional reviews the feed between two jobs or in the evening, replies in a single tap, and a personalised SMS goes back to the customer. Urgent cases such as a warning light or a roadside breakdown raise an immediate alert.
The distinguishing claim is vocabulary. MecaCall says it understands the trade's own terms across four segments it addresses individually: general repair workshops, body shops, roadworthiness testing centres and tyre specialists. Calls are recorded, transcribed and summarised by AI.
Its limits are stated as firmly as its features. The assistant never confirms a slot and never quotes a price: it qualifies and sorts, and the human decides. There is no outbound calling. Delivery is a web dashboard plus the phone line, with no mobile app and no public API. Pricing is a subscription with a monthly allowance of minutes and per-minute charges beyond it. MecaCall is one of five sector assistants the same publisher operates, alongside products for driving schools, veterinary practices, building trades and home-improvement specialists.
What it does
- Answer inbound calls the workshop cannot pick up, in the garage's own name
- Qualify the vehicle and the request: make, model, mileage, nature of the problem
- Sort every enquiry by type and urgency into a triage feed
- Send the caller a confirmation SMS once the professional has approved it
- Flag emergencies such as warning lights, breakdowns and punctures in real time
- Transfer the call to a human when the request is too complex
- Record, transcribe and summarise calls for later review
When to use MecaCall / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if MecaCall is the right fit.
When to use MecaCall
- Independent garage owners and MRA workshops of one to three staff who work alone or with an apprentice and cannot reach the phone from under a lift
- Body shop operators who spend the day in the spray booth and lose estimate enquiries to whichever competitor answers first
- Vehicle testing centres whose inspectors are under a car while callers ask about prices, paperwork and lead times
- Tyre specialists facing seasonal call peaks in October-November and March-April, with repetitive stock questions
- Small motor-trade businesses with no dedicated receptionist, where the phone simply rings in the workshop
When not to use MecaCall
- Consumers and private individuals: the terms state the service is reserved for professionals and is expressly not aimed at consumers
- Businesses wanting outbound calling or telephone prospecting, which MecaCall does not do and which its own comparison page concedes to a competitor
- Developers looking to embed the service, since no public API, documentation or developer subdomain exists
- Teams expecting a mobile app, as the product ships only as a web dashboard plus a phone line
- Workshops wanting the AI to confirm slots or quote prices on its own, which the vendor explicitly refuses to do
How to use MecaCall
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Request a demo through the website form, stating your sector and daily call volume; the vendor calls back within 24 working hours
- Create the account with an email address and a password, with no company registration number required
- Enter the workshop profile: specialities, vehicle makes handled, indicative prices and opening hours
- Let the assistant absorb that knowledge base, which the vendor says takes a few minutes
- Activate call forwarding on no answer by typing an operator code into the existing handset
- Choose the assistant's voice, and on the higher tiers the languages it should handle
- Take the 14-day free trial on the Essentiel plan, which needs no bank card
- Let the assistant answer the calls you miss and qualify each caller
- Review the triage feed between jobs or at the end of the day, sorted by type and urgency
- Approve a reply in one tap so the confirmation SMS is sent, then call the customer back
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Genuine sector specialisation, with trade vocabulary and four dedicated segment pages rather than a generic AI switchboard
- The workshop keeps its existing number, with no hardware, no cabling and no technician needed
- Call minutes are bundled into the subscription, unlike the per-minute competitor the vendor compares itself to
- Fourteen-day free trial with no bank card, and cancellation at any time effective at the end of the current period
- Human validation is built in: the AI never confirms a slot or quotes a price by itself
- Unusually transparent supply chain, with fourteen named processors listed with purpose and location
- Database, authentication and file storage hosted in the EU, in the Frankfurt region, with a 99.5% monthly uptime target
Cons
- No real customer evidence: all six testimonials on the site are explicitly labelled as illustrative cases, and the headline metrics sit alongside them
- The advertised 49 EUR entry price assumes annual billing; paying monthly costs 59 EUR, and the pricing toggle opens on the annual view by default
- All prices are quoted excluding VAT, which is added on top
- The publisher, GDPR and commercial contact addresses are a generic Gmail account rather than a company domain
- No public API, no documentation and no mobile app, so the tool cannot be embedded or extended
- No social media presence of any kind is published anywhere on the site
- No security certification belongs to the publisher itself: the PCI-DSS and Data Privacy Framework mentions cover its suppliers
Pricing & Plans
There is no permanent free plan. All three tiers are paid, and every amount is quoted excluding VAT. The cheapest entry point is the Essentiel plan at 49 EUR per month excluding VAT, a figure that assumes annual billing under a two-months-free offer; the same plan billed monthly costs 59 EUR per month. The pricing page opens on the annual view by default, so 49 EUR is the amount displayed on arrival. A 14-day free trial of the Essentiel plan is offered without a bank card. Each tier bundles a monthly allowance of call minutes, and usage beyond it is billed per started minute at 0.20, 0.15 or 0.10 EUR depending on the plan. Payment is taken by card through Stripe, invoices are issued in arrears, and subscriptions renew tacitly until cancelled.

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how MecaCall handles your data.
GDPR overview
GDPR implementation is explicit and unusually detailed for a company of this size. The privacy policy is written under Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and the French Informatique et Libertés Act, and all three legal documents were last updated on 23 April 2026. The controller is named with its SIRET and RCS number. No DPO is appointed, and the policy explains that Article 37 does not require one, giving a contact point instead. Every data subject right is listed with its article, alongside the one-month response deadline and the CNIL as supervisory authority. Non-EU transfers rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the June 2021 Standard Contractual Clauses. Breach notification within 72 hours is committed to, a processing agreement is available on request, and Article 22 is addressed directly: the AI assists but takes no decision producing legal effects.
Who owns the data?
The customer keeps ownership of their data. The terms state that the client remains the owner of their Client Data and grants the publisher only the rights strictly necessary to deliver, improve and secure the service, for the duration of the subscription. No ownership in the software passes to the customer, who receives a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence limited to the subscription term. Roles are split: WINDFALL acts as processor under Article 28 GDPR for data about the callers, the garage being the controller for its own customers and prospects, while WINDFALL is controller for account data. A data processing agreement is provided on request.
Reuse rights
The published purposes and legal bases are set out in a table. Contract performance covers the account, the voice assistant itself (greeting, qualification, transcription) and service SMS and emails. Legal obligation covers invoicing, accounting and fraud prevention. Legitimate interest covers service improvement, internal statistics, marketing to existing customers and platform security. Consent is required for non-exempt audience measurement and marketing trackers. For the end customer, reuse is unconstrained in practice: the data belongs to them, it is exposed through the dashboard, the AI summaries and an Excel export on the top tier, and nothing in the terms restricts what a garage may do with its own call records. What the site never states is whether customer data feeds AI model training. Language models come from third-party processors, and no opt-out is documented because the subject is never raised.

Hosting summary
Hosting is split across jurisdictions and disclosed in detail. The public website runs on Vercel in the United States and the API and edge compute on Cloudflare, also United States. The database, authentication and file storage run on Supabase, explicitly on EU infrastructure in the Frankfurt region, which is where customer and call data lives. Fourteen subprocessors are listed with purpose and location. The AI chain is American: Vapi for real-time voice orchestration, Deepgram for speech-to-text, ElevenLabs for text-to-speech, and OpenAI and Anthropic for language models. Telephony and SMS go through Twilio and payments through Stripe, both United States and Ireland. Transactional email uses Resend, and analytics involve Google, Meta Platforms Ireland and Plausible in Estonia and Germany. Transfers outside the EU rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework for certified suppliers and on the June 2021 Standard Contractual Clauses, backed by encryption in transit and at rest and pseudonymisation where possible. French law governs the contract.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting MecaCall.
- Callers are speaking to a machine: the terms put the duty to inform them about call recording and automated handling on the garage, not on the vendor, and French telephone canvassing rules still apply to the subscriber
- The advertised entry price is the annually billed rate, so budgeting from the 49 EUR headline understates monthly billing by 10 EUR per month and ignores VAT on top
- Every testimonial and outcome figure on the site is an illustrative case, so buying on the strength of the quoted response rates or extra bookings means buying on marketing scenarios
- Relying on the assistant can erode the habit of answering directly, and a workshop that stops calling back promptly will lose the goodwill the tool was bought to protect
- AI transcription and summarisation are not guaranteed accurate by the terms, which place responsibility for decisions taken on the strength of them squarely on the customer
- Call recordings, transcriptions and caller phone numbers are personal data about third parties who never chose this vendor, held for twelve months and processed by suppliers in the United States
- The publisher is a small company with 500 EUR of share capital running five sector products, so continuity, support depth and roadmap should be weighed before routing a business-critical phone line through it
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Very low. The vendor advertises 15 minutes and states that no technician, hardware or cabling is needed, summarising it as: if you can send a text message, you can configure MecaCall. Setup is an account created with an email and password, a profile listing specialities, makes handled, indicative prices and availability, and a call-forwarding code typed into the existing handset. Onboarding support scales with the plan, from a video guide and email on Essentiel to a 30-minute call on Pro and a one-hour setup session on Premium.

Should you pick MecaCall?
MecaCall is a deliberately narrow product, and that is its main strength. It addresses one situation -- the call a workshop cannot answer -- for four related trades, and it does so with vocabulary and call categories drawn from those trades rather than from a generic switchboard. The setup story is credible: the garage keeps its number, activates a forwarding code, and fills in a knowledge base. The refusal to let the AI confirm slots or quote prices is a sound design choice for a sector where a wrong commitment costs more than a missed call.
The commercial framing deserves more care than the site invites. The 49 EUR headline is the annual billing rate; monthly billing is 59 EUR, and the pricing toggle opens on the annual view, so the cheaper figure is what a visitor sees first. Prices exclude VAT. More importantly, none of the evidence offered is real: every testimonial carries an illustrative case label, and the response-rate and extra-booking figures sit beside those same illustrative profiles. A buyer should treat them as claims, not measurements, and ask for references.
On governance the picture is better than the company's size would suggest. Fourteen subprocessors are named with purpose and location, retention periods are tabulated, transfer mechanisms are identified and a processing agreement is offered. Against that, the publisher is a very small company, its legal and GDPR contact is a generic webmail address, and no certification belongs to it rather than to its suppliers. Whether customer data ever trains AI models is never addressed.
For a small workshop losing bookings to an unanswered phone, the economics are easy to test during the 14-day trial. For anyone needing an API, a mobile app or outbound calling, this is the wrong tool.
