What is Klineo?
Klineo is a web platform that connects cancer patients with the oncology clinical trials they may be eligible for. It is published by Klineo SAS, a French company based in Clichy, and it serves four audiences through four distinct interfaces: patients, physicians, hospital centres and trial sponsors.
The engine is a matching algorithm. It reads the inclusion and exclusion criteria of each trial, cross-references them in real time with the patient's medical profile, and returns the matches ranked by medical relevance and by distance from the centre where the trial is open. The sponsors page states that the algorithm is powered by latest-generation LLM models, and both the hospital and the sponsor pages link to a peer-reviewed evaluation published in npj Precision Oncology under the title "A prospective pragmatic evaluation of automatic trial matching tools in a molecular tumor board".
The trial database is the second pillar. Klineo says it tracks 4,127 clinical trials, updates them daily and notifies users when a new trial opens. Physicians search either by medical fields, such as specialty, organ, histology and biomarkers, or directly by title, acronym or NCT number.
Around that core, each audience gets its own tooling. Patients build a medical profile in four steps and can let the platform extract pathology, stage, biomarkers, history and treatment lines from an uploaded consultation report; they then choose which trials to share with their referring oncologist. Physicians send inclusion requests to investigating centres with a pre-filled patient form, and work as a team thanks to role management for residents, nurses and secretariats. Hospitals connect Klineo to their information system to pre-screen every patient automatically and steer inclusions from a dashboard. Sponsors follow referral flows, blocking criteria and recruitment gaps.
The figures published in September 2026 are 10,000+ patients supported, 3,000+ registered healthcare professionals, 500+ partner centres and 10+ partner patient associations, across France, Belgium, Italy and Germany. Access is free of charge for patients and for physicians under the published terms, while the hospital and sponsor offers are sold through a demo request, with no public price.

GDPR overview
Klineo publishes a dated general privacy policy, in force since 2 October 2025, that claims compliance with both French Law 78-17 of 6 January 1978 and Regulation (EU) 2016/679. It lists the purposes, legal bases and retention period of every processing operation, separates the cases where Klineo is controller from those where it is a processor for the referring physician, and enumerates the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, plus the right not to be subject to automated decision-making, which the policy says does not apply to its processing. Rights are exercised at dpo@klineo.fr or by post in Clichy, with a right to complain to the CNIL. The DPO function is outsourced to DrData, a specialist in health data.
Who owns the data?
Ownership depends on who created the record. When a healthcare professional builds and manages a patient file on Klineo, that professional is the data controller and Klineo is only the processor, acting on documented instructions and setting neither the legal basis nor the retention period. When a patient opens an account directly, Klineo is the controller. Patients whose data falls under the processor regime are told to address their referring physician. The site itself, its structure, its texts and its databases remain the exclusive property of the publisher, and any reproduction without prior authorisation is presented as an infringement. Klineo never claims ownership of the medical content users enter.
Reuse rights
Users get no right to reuse the platform's own content: the legal notice reserves the site, its structure, its texts and its databases to the publisher, and treats any reproduction without prior authorisation as an infringement. What users enter is processed for named purposes only. Creating and managing accounts, and building the patient medical record in order to search for a trial, rest on the performance of the contract, with explicit Article 9.2.a consent for health data. Improving the services and the algorithm rests on legitimate interest, and covers usage data, connection data, IP address and health data. Once the contract ends, patient data is pseudonymised and kept two more years specifically to improve the algorithm and the patient journey. Physicians who use Klineo as controllers govern their own instructions through the processing agreement annexed to their terms.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
All health data processed by Klineo is hosted on OVH Cloud servers located exclusively in France and certified HDS, the French health data hosting scheme defined by the Agence du Numerique en Sante in consultation with the CNIL. The certification runs for three years, with an annual surveillance audit. Klineo also states that its hosting provider is certified ISO 27001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001; those certificates belong to the provider, not to Klineo. OVH Cloud SAS is registered in Roubaix under RCS Lille 537 407 926. For personal data that is not health data, support services being the example given, the privacy policy reserves the right to use subcontractors outside the European Union, applying the safeguards of Articles 46 and 49 GDPR where the destination country has no adequacy decision. No subprocessor is named anywhere on the site. The hospital pages state that data is encrypted and pseudonymised before it leaves the hospital information system.

A physician account requires an RPPS number. The hospital side is a different matter: Klineo connects to the hospital information system and the electronic patient record, which the site calls fast and easy but never details. No connector is named, no timeline is given, and since there is no public API the integration necessarily goes through the vendor.

Klineo is a narrow tool and says so plainly: oncology only, four countries, one job. Within that perimeter it is unusually well documented. The matching engine has been evaluated in npj Precision Oncology, health data sits on HDS-certified servers in France, the four legal documents are dated and complete, and the physician terms carry a full Article 28 processing agreement rather than a promise of one. For a product handling cancer patients' medical records, that compliance base matters more than any feature list.
The economics are equally clear. Patients and physicians pay nothing, contractually and permanently, which removes the usual friction of a two-sided network. Hospitals and sponsors are the paying side, and their offers carry no public price at all: a demo request is the only way to learn what the platform costs.
