AVIATAR is Lufthansa Technik's digital Tech Ops platform for airlines, MROs, OEMs and lessors. It pulls aircraft, maintenance and operational data into one modular workspace covering condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, planning optimization and a paperless technical logbook.
What is AVIATAR?
AVIATAR is the digital Tech Ops platform of Lufthansa Technik AG, the Hamburg maintenance, repair and overhaul arm of the Lufthansa group. It addresses airlines, MRO providers, OEMs and lessors, and its premise is that the data needed to run technical operations already exists but is scattered across flight operations, aircraft systems, maintenance systems and outside sources. AVIATAR brings that data into one place and turns it into actions that reduce delays and cancellations.
The platform rests on three stated principles: open to partners, customers and developers, neutral towards any OEM or MRO provider, and modular, so each customer buys only what it needs. Functionally it is organized around four pillars, Monitor and Detect, Predict and Recommend, Plan and Optimize, and Automate.
Seven products form the public catalogue. Condition Monitoring displays fleet status in real time from flight leg and OOOI data, ACMS reports and fault messages, with automatic links to the Troubleshooting Manual and the Fault Isolation Manual. Predictive Health Analytics forecasts component and system behaviour and now embeds Honeywell Connected Maintenance analytics. Line Maintenance Planning Optimization rebuilds the short-term plan continuously as schedules, resources and constraints move, and is also sold inside AMOS. MRO Management covers event monitoring, parts and tooling sourcing, and invoice visibility. Reliability Suite supports trend monitoring and engineering investigation. The Technical Logbook, with its Cabin Logbook and Logbook Central companions, digitizes the paper logbook for cockpit and cabin crews. APU and Cabin Temperature Monitoring, built with FlightWatching, watches auxiliary power unit usage and cabin cooling on the ground.
Announced coverage spans the Airbus A220, A320, A330, A340, A350 and A380 and the Boeing 737 NG, 737 MAX, 777, 787 and 747, with interfaces to AMOS, TRAX, Sceptre and MXI. Since 2023 AVIATAR has belonged to the Digital Tech Ops Ecosystem alongside AMOS and flydocs. The marketing site runs on aviatar.com while the platform itself sits behind a login on aviatar.io. Wizz Air, Eurowings, SWISS, Air Transat and TUI are named as customers.

AVIATAR publishes no price list. The only documented free entry point is AVIATAR MRO Management, which the Platform Terms dated 11 April 2023 state is provided free of charge unless otherwise agreed. Every other product is quoted commercially: the Reliability Suite page refers to modular pricing without giving an amount, and the liability cap in the terms is expressed as a share of the fees paid by the customer, which confirms that paid modules exist. No starting price, currency or billing unit is public, and no free trial is announced. A figure can only be obtained through a product demo request or by contacting the AVIATAR sales team directly.

GDPR overview
GDPR implementation is concrete and detailed. The privacy notice, last updated 30 May 2024, names Lufthansa Technik AG as controller and covers both aviatar.com and aviatar.io with its subdomains. An Article 37 data protection officer is designated at Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Airportring, 60546 Frankfurt, reachable at datenschutz@dlh.de, while rights requests go to privacy@aviatar.com. Legal bases are cited article by article: consent under 6(1)(a), legal obligation under 6(1)(c), legitimate interest under 6(1)(f). Data subject rights are listed individually, from access under Article 15 through portability under Article 20 and objection under Article 21. The competent supervisory authority is named with its full address. Transfers outside the EU rely on standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision, and a copy of the security measures can be requested. The platform terms add that Lufthansa Technik complies with applicable data protection law.
Who owns the data?
The platform terms build on a defined category of Customer Data, meaning data designated as originating from the customer. Ownership stays with the operator: the terms state explicitly that nothing in the intellectual property article prevents the customer from using and disclosing its raw Customer Data at its own discretion, and the Digital Tech Ops Ecosystem pages repeat that ownership of the data remains with the operator. What the customer grants Lufthansa Technik is a licence, not title. In return, Lufthansa Technik accepts no archiving obligation: nothing in the terms requires it to keep information, data or reports available to the customer during or after the contract.
Reuse rights
The customer keeps full freedom over its own raw data. In the other direction, the licence granted to Lufthansa Technik is broad: non-exclusive, free of charge, worldwide, non-transferable, limited to the purposes of the terms but also extending to testing and developing AVIATAR and related services, with a right to sublicense. A separate clause lets Lufthansa Technik use anonymized data derived from Customer Data to develop and test additional functionality, and that right survives the end of the contract. A customer can narrow this, but only by negotiating a supplement, since the clause opens with unless expressly otherwise agreed. Customer Data is not supposed to contain personal data; where it does, the parties agree supplemental terms such as a data processing agreement. Neither the terms nor the privacy notice ever use the word training or mention AI model training.

Hosting summary
No hosting location is published for the AVIATAR platform itself on aviatar.io. What the privacy notice does document concerns the marketing site. Audience measurement data collected through eTracker is administered in a data centre located in Hamburg, Germany, on infrastructure operated by IPHH Internet Port Hamburg GmbH, certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2013. Consent data processed by Usercentrics GmbH, based in Munich, is stored locally within the European Union and kept for one year. Personal data may be transferred to third countries, in which case standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision under Article 45 apply, and the categories of recipients include service providers, IT, marketing, authorities and other Lufthansa group companies. Third parties named in the appendix, YouTube LLC with Google LLC and Vimeo.com Inc., are United States entities. Independently of the site's own statements, the aviatar.com web server resolves to an Amazon anycast address geolocated in the United States, which says nothing about where the platform runs.

Technical difficulty
High, and mostly organizational rather than technical. There is no self-service sign-up: access starts with a demo request and a contract. Lufthansa Technik then issues administrator accounts and the customer creates its own users. The real effort is the data interface with an existing maintenance and engineering system such as AMOS, TRAX, Sceptre or MXI, which is a project rather than a switch. Client-side requirements are light, as the platform is browser-based and the Logbook runs on existing tablets, smartphones and desktops. AVIATAR is an industrial platform, not a consumer tool, and it should be judged on that basis. Its credibility rests on its publisher: Lufthansa Technik is one of the largest MRO organizations in the world, the engineering depth behind the predictive products is real, and the customer names on the site are checkable airlines rather than anonymous logos. The modular structure is genuine, the interfaces to AMOS, TRAX, Sceptre and MXI are documented, and the Technical Logbook carries approvals from several civil aviation authorities, which is a meaningful signal in a regulated environment.
The reservations are mostly about opacity. Nothing about the commercial offer is public: no price, no plan, no trial, only a demo form and a sales conversation. The only terms of use published cover a single module and date from April 2023, so anyone signing for Condition Monitoring or the Logbook is contracting on documents they cannot read beforehand. Those published terms also give Lufthansa Technik a licence over customer data for testing and developing the product, and an open-ended right over anonymized derivatives, with no documented way to opt out.
