What is Micron Kit?
Micron Kit is an on-site parasite diagnostic system rather than a piece of software. It pairs hardware (a hand-held Micron Reader, a manual centrifuge, a fully reusable metal slide, microtubes, syringes, a filter and a sample container) with a mobile app for iOS and Android. The chain is short: the app films a video of the prepared sample through the Micron Kit Reader, the video is uploaded to an analysis server, artificial intelligence processes it, and the results are delivered straight back to the device.
The publisher is Micron Agritech Limited, an Irish start-up spun out of TU Dublin and founded in 2019. The method is a standardised, streamlined version of the McMaster procedure used in laboratory faecal egg counting. Micron backs the accuracy claim with external quality control: VetQAS proficiency testing results from December 2021 are published, with z-scores the company says sit closer to the consensus value than many traditional veterinary laboratories.
The kit reports Strongyle, Nematodirus, Strongyloides, Moniezia, Coccidia and Trichurus, plus liver and rumen fluke. Species covered are cattle, sheep and horses, with alpacas and llamas added, presented as the only rapid on-site system in the world to offer camelid faecal egg counting. Speciation of Nematodirus spp. against Nematodirus battus is also claimed as a world first across all systems, laboratories included.
Two software modules sit alongside the kit. Micron Analytics handles client management, live FEC trackers, per-animal and per-client charts and branded reports. PAWS (Predictive Animal Welfare System) forecasts infection risk; its first phase, the Nematodirus Forecasting System, is an interactive risk map fed by more than 70 Irish weather stations and updated daily to predict larval hatch dates.
The company reports 14 staff of five nationalities across two locations, in Ireland and Wales, and holds two patent publications: WO2020120640A1 for a portable parasite detection kit and WO2021219898A1 for a faecal egg counting slide. Its stated positioning is to cut blanket dosing and slow anthelmintic resistance.
Two caveats on the figures: the counters on the homepage (5,000,000+ eggs catalogued, 800,000+ detected, 300,000+ animals tested, a 10-minute average result) do not match those on the Technology page, and a permanent banner warns of delivery delays caused by high demand.

GDPR overview
Micron Agritech Limited (company number 646959) states in its privacy policy that it is the controller of your personal data for the purposes of the GDPR (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Clause 12 of the terms and conditions sets out a complete set of Article 28 processing terms, covering further sub-processors, transfers outside the EEA and breach notification without undue delay (12.14). The privacy policy enumerates the rights of access, withdrawal of consent, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and complaint, exercised at hello@micronagritech.com or by post to GW117 Greenway Hub. Who owns the data?
Micron Agritech Limited plays a dual role. Where you use the services for animals you own, clause 12.1 of the terms and conditions makes Micron the controller of your personal data. Where a vet uploads data about their own clients, Micron acts as a processor on that vet's instructions (clause 12.2). Business accounts stay under the subscriber's control: the subscriber decides who may access the account. You may request that your personal data is deleted from Micron's systems at any time. Clause 12.16 also permits Micron to use data gathered through the services on an anonymised basis for its own purposes.
Reuse rights
The terms and conditions grant the end user no reuse right beyond the service itself: results are made available through the app and Micron Analytics, where they can be downloaded, commented on and reissued as a PDF report carrying the practice's own branding. On Micron's side, the privacy policy lists the purposes as providing the services, managing accounts, marketing, meeting legal obligations and improving the product, on the legal bases of contract, legitimate interest, legal obligation and consent. Data collected includes name, contact details, profession, the animals treated, payment details, photo metadata and IP, device and browser information. It may be shared with third-party service providers, regulators and authorities, and a potential acquirer. Clause 12.16 additionally permits anonymised use for research, development, statistical analysis and bug fixing.
