Overview

What is Saga?

Saga is a workspace where a team's notes, documents and tasks live in the same place, with an AI assistant sitting inside the editor rather than in a separate tab. The publisher sums it up as the AI workspace for your team, and the product is built around one idea: connecting what people write so it can be found again.

Writing comes first. Pages behave like documents, but Saga links them automatically, surfaces cross-references and autocompletes as you type; Live Blocks keep the same block synchronised across several pages, and pages open side by side. Search sits behind Cmd+K and reaches both the workspace and the connected tools. Tasks are created directly inside notes, then gathered in a single table or a drag-and-drop Kanban board: deliberately plain task tracking rather than project management software.

Saga AI covers content generation, brainstorming, translation into more than 20 languages, grammar correction, rewriting, summarising, information extraction and questions asked of your own pages. The model story is where the site contradicts itself: a banner announces Now with GPT-5.2 while the AI page and the pricing FAQ both say GPT-4o. The terms are the steadier source, naming OpenAI and Anthropic as third-party providers alongside models developed by Saga. AI usage is capped at 5,000 words a month on the free plan and unlimited on paid plans, subject to fair use.

Collaboration runs in real time, with Admin, Editor and Viewer roles and guest invitations. Two integrations exist, Google Drive and Linear: one on the free plan, both from Standard, unlimited on the Business plan that is still announced as coming soon. Saga runs in any browser and as macOS and Windows desktop apps, and pages or whole workspaces can be published publicly. There is no dedicated mobile app.

Behind the product stands Saga Labs Ltd., a British company incorporated on 3 October 2020 under number 12925504, with a fully remote team. Saga 1.0 left beta on 14 November 2024, the site claims more than 60,000 users, and the publisher compares itself openly with Notion, Confluence, Google Docs and Microsoft Office.

What it does

  • Write and edit notes and documents with your team in a shared editor
  • Generate a first draft, then continue and iterate on it with AI without leaving the page
  • Summarise meeting notes, documents and reports in one click
  • Ask questions about your own pages and get answers drawn from their content
  • Translate text into more than 20 languages, fix spelling and grammar, and rewrite for tone or length

When to use Saga / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if Saga is the right fit.

When to use Saga

  • Product teams keeping specs, discovery notes and roadmaps in one linked space, with ready-made Product templates
  • Project managers and project teams who want decisions, notes and the tasks they generate in the same document
  • Engineering teams that write and maintain documentation, especially those already tracking issues in Linear
  • Marketing and content teams that draft, rewrite, summarise and translate inside the editor instead of a separate AI tool
  • Small teams of up to three people and solo users, for whom the permanent free plan is a complete working setup

When not to use Saga

  • Developers who need to plug the workspace into something else: Saga publishes no public API and no developer documentation
  • People who work mainly from a phone: there is no dedicated mobile app, only the mobile browser, with an app still described as being on the roadmap
  • Teams running complex programmes: tasks are simple lists plus a Kanban board, with no Gantt charts, dependencies or workload views
  • Power users who build relational databases and multiple linked views the way Notion allows: Saga trades that flexibility for simplicity on purpose
  • Regulated buyers who need a signed data processing agreement or SOC 2 / ISO 27001 evidence before adopting a tool: neither is published or offered
Get started

How to use Saga

A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.

  1. Create a free account on saga.so: signing up is required, there is no way to try the editor anonymously
  2. Optionally install the macOS or Windows desktop app, available on every plan including Free
  3. Create a workspace, the shared environment that holds its own members, settings and content
  4. Invite your team, capped at 3 members on Free and unlimited from Standard, plus read or comment guests
  5. Write pages, notes and documents; Saga creates the links between pages and surfaces the references itself
  6. Add tasks straight inside your notes, then track them in the single task table or on the Kanban board
  7. Call Saga AI from the editor to generate, rewrite, summarise, translate or proofread
  8. Mention a page in an AI prompt so the answer is grounded in that page's content
  9. Save your own custom AI commands, available on the Standard and Business plans
  10. Connect Google Drive or Linear, then use Cmd+K to search everything at once without leaving the workspace

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Notes, documents and tasks in a single tool, with the AI in the same editor rather than in another tab
  • A free plan that is genuinely usable: unlimited pages and tasks, 3 members, 5,000 AI words a month and the desktop apps included
  • Low entry price for a team workspace with unlimited AI: 6 USD per member per month billed annually, 8 USD billed monthly
  • A clear commitment on training: neither Saga nor its partners use customer data to train AI models
  • Content ownership stated without ambiguity in the terms, with no claim over what users write
  • Subprocessors published by name (Firebase, AWS, Sendgrid, Posthog, Sentry), with primary hosting declared in the United Kingdom and the European Union
  • Simplicity is the stated design goal and the point the published testimonials keep coming back to

Cons

  • No public API and no developer documentation, so the workspace cannot be scripted or connected to a custom stack
  • No dedicated mobile app: the mobile browser is the only option, and the app is still described as being on the roadmap
  • Only two named integrations, Google Drive and Linear, and just one of them on the free plan
  • The Business plan is still marked coming soon behind a waitlist, so advanced permissions, unlimited integrations and AI search across tools and the web are not actually available
  • No data processing agreement published or offered, no SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification, and no Article 27 EU representative even though the publisher is British and addresses the European Union
  • The site contradicts itself on the models it uses, advertising GPT-5.2 in a banner while the AI page and the FAQ both say GPT-4o
  • Tight storage quotas (250 MB in total and 10 MB per file on Free, 5 GB and 250 MB on Standard), non-refundable payments, and terms unchanged since April 2023 that still carry a registered address the company register no longer shows

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how Saga handles your data.

GDPR overview

The privacy policy carries a dedicated section on personal information rights under the GDPR, with a link to the regulation text on EUR-Lex. Six rights are listed: access, update and erasure, rectification, objection, restriction, portability, and withdrawal of consent. Saga names the legal bases it relies on (consent, contractual necessity, legitimate interest, legal obligation), declares itself the data controller with its providers as processors, and points to the EDPB member list for identifying a supervisory authority. Requests go to support@saga.so, with an announced response within one month, extendable for complex cases; identity checks require at least two identifying elements, and a representative must supply signed written consent. What is missing is just as concrete: no Article 27 EU representative, no named data protection officer, no published data processing agreement and no security certification claimed anywhere.

Who owns the data?

Under Saga's terms, the content you put into the workspace stays yours: the company claims no ownership and states that you retain all your rights, copyright included. What you grant is a licence to display your content through the service and make it available to you and to the users you have given permission to. The privacy policy repeats that storing notes in Saga changes neither ownership nor copyright status, and staff access is limited to four cases: support you have explicitly authorised, legal obligation, service stability and security, and protection of rights. One exception matters: any feedback you send becomes Saga's sole and exclusive property. Saga states that it neither sells data nor runs advertising.

Reuse rights

You do not need permission to use your own content. The terms explicitly grant you the right to download, copy, display and print it, and nothing restricts what you do with it elsewhere. You decide who sees what through permissions set per page, per collection and per workspace, and a page or an entire workspace can be made public through a link; guest access is capped by plan, at 10 guests on Free, 100 on Standard and 250 on Business. Deletion is user-driven: content becomes immediately inaccessible on request and is erased from the servers after 30 days. Two limits deserve attention. Anything you run through Saga AI passes through third-party models, and the terms make you responsible for checking that the generated content complies with OpenAI's and Anthropic's own terms, although those providers and Saga alike state that they use neither inputs nor outputs to improve their models. And the pages published by Saga describe no bulk export feature or export format.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
Billing-related data, meaning your name, contact details and billing records, is kept for at least six years as UK tax law requires, then destroyed. Any other data is deleted once there is no longer a lawful basis for processing it. When an account is deleted, the content the user authored becomes immediately inaccessible and is erased from Saga's servers after 30 days, with no recovery possible. Users can request access, a copy, a correction or erasure by writing to support@saga.so, and Saga announces a reply within one month, extendable if the request is complex. Version history follows a separate rule: 7 days on the free plan, unlimited on paid plans. The documents published by Saga mention no anonymisation or pseudonymisation of the data it keeps.

Hosting summary

Saga Labs Ltd. is registered in England and Wales, and the terms place the service under UK law. The privacy policy states that Saga operates from England in the United Kingdom and from the European Union, and that its servers and third-party providers are located in England and Wales or the European Union whenever possible. Saga declares itself the data controller, with its providers acting as processors. Five subprocessors are named, with their country and the location of their servers: Google Firebase and Amazon Web Services, both US companies with servers in Europe, and Sendgrid, Posthog and Sentry, US companies with servers in North America. Data is announced as encrypted in transit and at rest, and Saga states that it shares no personal information with third-party services, while warning that no transmission or storage method is 100% secure. Two caveats: no data processing agreement or security certification is published, and the site's own IP address resolving to an Amazon range in Frankfurt concerns the marketing site's infrastructure, not customer data hosting.

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Saga.

  • Concentrating a whole team's memory in one tool from a small, pre-seed-funded publisher creates real dependency, and no export format is documented anywhere on the site
  • Everything you send to Saga AI passes through third-party models from OpenAI and Anthropic, so what you paste into a prompt leaves the workspace
  • The promise not to train on your data is a declaration, not a setting: there is no user-side opt-out and no external audit to back it
  • The assistant answers from the pages in your workspace, so an outdated or simply wrong page gets repeated with the authority of an AI answer
  • Publishing a page or an entire workspace takes one gesture, which makes accidental exposure of internal information easy
  • Leaning on generation and rewriting for everything erodes ownership of your own text, flattens the team's voice and quietly lowers the vigilance you apply to checking facts
  • Automatic meeting summaries mean that whatever was not summarised drops out of the collective memory, and the minimum age of 13 makes classroom use something to supervise
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

No technical skill is required. You create an account, open a workspace in any browser and start writing, and Saga states that downloading is not required. The optional macOS and Windows desktop apps install like any other application and are available on every plan. Connecting Google Drive or Linear, and inviting members or guests, are done from the workspace itself, with no deployment, API key or server configuration involved, since there is no API at all. The only real friction is that an account is mandatory: the editor cannot be tried without signing up.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free plan, and what does it include?
Yes, and it is permanent rather than a trial. The free plan gives unlimited pages and tasks, up to 3 members per workspace, 5,000 words of Saga AI per month, 10 guests, 7 days of version history, one integration and 250 MB of storage. The macOS and Windows desktop apps are included.
How much does the cheapest paid plan cost?
Standard costs 6 USD per member per month billed annually, or 8 USD billed monthly. It lifts the member cap, makes Saga AI unlimited subject to fair use, and unlocks both integrations. Business is announced at 12 USD per member per month but is not yet purchasable, and Enterprise is quoted on request.
Which AI models power Saga AI?
The site is inconsistent on this point: a banner advertises GPT-5.2 while the AI page and the pricing FAQ both state GPT-4o. The terms of service are the most reliable source and name OpenAI and Anthropic as third-party model providers, alongside models developed by Saga itself.
Does Saga use my content to train AI models?
No. Saga states that neither it nor its partners use customer data to train AI models, and the terms extend that to the third-party models and to Saga's own. Note that this is a stated commitment: there is no user-side opt-out setting and no external audit published to back it.
Can I use Saga outside a web browser?
Yes on desktop, no on mobile. Native macOS and Windows apps are available on every plan, including Free, and downloading is optional since the browser version is complete. There is no dedicated mobile app: Saga states that it works well in mobile browsers and that an app is on the roadmap.
Does Saga offer an API?
No public API or developer documentation appears anywhere on the site, so the workspace cannot be queried or automated from outside the product.
Which tools does Saga integrate with?
Two are named: Google Drive and Linear. The free plan allows one of them, Standard allows both, and unlimited integrations are announced for the Business plan, which is not yet available.
Where is my data hosted, and who processes it?
Saga states that it operates from England and from the European Union, and that its servers and third-party providers sit in England and Wales or the EU whenever possible. Five subprocessors are named: Google Firebase, Amazon Web Services, Sendgrid, Posthog and Sentry. Data is announced as encrypted in transit and at rest.
What happens to my content if I cancel or delete my account?
Cancellation can be done from the workspace settings or by emailing support@saga.so, and the plan stays active until the end of the billing cycle. Payments are not refundable and no credit is issued for unused time. Deleted content becomes immediately inaccessible and is erased from the servers after 30 days.
Conclusion

Should you pick Saga?

Saga's promise is narrow and clear: notes, documents, tasks and AI in one deliberately simple workspace, aimed at teams that find Notion or Confluence heavier than they need. At 6 USD per member per month billed annually, with unlimited AI on paid plans, the price is low for a team workspace, and the free plan is generous enough to be a real working setup rather than a teaser.

On privacy, the posture is better than average on the points that matter: no training on customer data, subprocessors published by name, hosting declared in the United Kingdom and the European Union, and content ownership written plainly into the terms. Governance is thinner. There is no data processing agreement, no security certification and no Article 27 EU representative, although the publisher is British and addresses the European Union. The terms have not been updated since April 2023, and the registered address they carry no longer matches the company register.

The functional perimeter is narrow by design, and occasionally narrower than the site suggests. No API, no mobile app, two integrations. The Business plan, which is meant to bring AI search across tools and the web, advanced permissions and unlimited integrations, is still a waitlist rather than a product. And the site cannot keep its own model story straight, advertising GPT-5.2 in a banner while the product pages say GPT-4o.

Saga Labs is a small, young company: incorporated in 2020, fully remote, with a single pre-seed round reported by third-party aggregators. That is the trade. For one tidy place where a small team writes and tracks its work with AI at hand, Saga delivers cheaply. For integrations, mobile access, an API or procurement-grade paperwork, look elsewhere.
