Menoovo KI-Sommelier
Menoovo KI-Sommelier is the drink-pairing module of the German restaurant platform Menoovo. It matches each dish against the venue's stored drinks list and suggests wines, beers or alcohol-free pairings, which the venue approves before guests ever see them.
What is Menoovo KI-Sommelier?
The Menoovo KI-Sommelier is the drink-pairing engine inside Menoovo, a hospitality platform published by Menoovo GmbH in Sehnde, Lower Saxony. Its job is narrow and plainly stated: it compares the dishes on a venue's menu with the drinks list stored in the system, then proposes wines, beers or alcohol-free accompaniments that fit. The venue keeps the final say, a point the site makes twice, on the AI page and on the guest-advice page, in the same breath as the description of the mechanism itself.
The module lives inside what Menoovo calls digital guest advice: a menu the guest opens by scanning a QR code at the table. No app, no registration, it simply runs in the browser. The same menu carries short videos of the people behind the products, from cooks and brewers to winemakers and farmers, which is where the company's Rehumanizing Hospitality positioning comes from. Alongside the pairing, the venue can display fitting sides, drinks or desserts, and decides which of those recommendations guests actually see. Text can be enlarged for readability, and translation drafts are available in up to 63 languages, reviewed before they go live.
The KI-Sommelier is one of five AI features on the platform. The others draft product texts and images from a short video or a few keywords, transcribe hospitality audio into subtitles, translate menus, and route orders and tasks to the kitchen, the floor or connected robotics.
It is not sold on its own. The published price list places it in the Menoovo Bestellen package at 119 EUR per month net and above, while the 39 EUR entry package explicitly excludes it. The host platform is a progressive web app for iOS, Android, Windows and Linux, multi-tenant across sites and brands, and it opens outwards through interfaces to existing tills, inventory systems, staff planning, payment providers and robots, plus an MCP connection that lets authorised users maintain menus from ChatGPT, Claude or Codex. Ordering, payment and fiscal operations are deliberately kept outside that AI control. Several neighbouring modules are flagged as pilot phase; the KI-Sommelier is not.
What it does
- Match every dish on the menu against the venue's stored drinks list
- Suggest fitting wines, beers and alcohol-free accompaniments
- Show the pairing inside the digital menu, at the moment the guest decides
- Let the venue review, approve and steer everything that is displayed
- Add contextual upsells such as sides, drinks or desserts alongside the pairing
- Run suggestive selling without training the service team for it
- Reach guests through a QR code in the browser, with no app to install
When to use Menoovo KI-Sommelier / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if Menoovo KI-Sommelier is the right fit.
When to use Menoovo KI-Sommelier
- Restaurants and bars with a properly stocked drinks list that want suggestive selling without retraining their service staff
- Hotels, event venues and catering operations that serve food and drink from the same digital menu
- Independent and chain venues moving to a QR-code menu guests open in a browser, with no app to install
- Venues hosting international guests, where menu translation drafts in up to 63 languages matter
- Operators in Germany who want to keep their existing till and connect it to Menoovo through an interface
When not to use Menoovo KI-Sommelier
- Consumers and private individuals: the terms serve business customers only and expressly exclude consumers
- Venues that have not entered their drinks list into Menoovo, since the engine compares dishes against that stored list and has nothing else to work from
- Teams that want fully automatic publishing, because every AI suggestion waits for a human release by the venue
- Anyone looking for a standalone sommelier tool: it is never sold separately, and the 39 EUR entry package does not include it
- Operations outside Germany or anyone wanting a short test, given a German-only product, a German fiscal package, a 980 EUR onboarding fee and a twelve-month minimum term
How to use Menoovo KI-Sommelier
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Book the free twenty-minute demo through Microsoft Bookings, or reach the team by email or phone, to identify the right package
- Subscribe to at least Menoovo Bestellen at 119 EUR per month net, the first tier that contains the KI-Sommelier
- Go through the one-off onboarding at 980 EUR, in which Menoovo digitises the existing menu and sets up tables, roles and channels with you
- Enter the drinks list in the system, since this is the list the engine compares dishes against
- Check the prerequisites on your side: an up-to-date browser, a stable broadband connection and recent devices
- Review the generated pairings and decide which ones guests will see
- Publish the menu, so guests can scan the QR code at the table and open it in their own browser
- Optionally connect ChatGPT, Claude or Codex over MCP to maintain products, prices, translations and media with your own login and permissions
- Take a separate licence for each physical location you operate
Pros & Cons
Pros
- The mechanism is published rather than hinted at, which makes the output easy to sanity-check: dishes are compared with the drinks list the venue entered
- Human release is the stated default on every AI feature, so nothing reaches guests unapproved
- Guests install nothing: a QR code and a browser are enough
- Alcohol-free pairings are named explicitly rather than treated as an afterthought
- The module ships with the digital menu, allergens and translations in the same package instead of as a separate purchase
- No forced till replacement, since a compatible existing system can stay and be connected through an interface
- The full price list including add-ons sits on a single page, and a standard Article 28 data processing agreement is offered
Cons
- Never sold on its own, so the real entry point is 119 EUR per month net, three times the platform's advertised 39 EUR starting price
- A one-off 980 EUR onboarding fee and a twelve-month minimum term, with no free plan and no announced free trial
- The terms let approved content feed the provider's AI training in anonymised or aggregated form, with no documented opt-out
- No hosting country or region is published anywhere, and no subprocessor list exists for the product
- The published privacy notice covers only the marketing website, leaving the SaaS regime described solely in the terms
- No public API documentation, although the site advertises API, MCP and AI assistants
- German-only site and product under German law, with several neighbouring modules still in pilot phase
Pricing & Plans
No free plan and no free trial are published; only the twenty-minute demo appointment is stated to be free of charge. The platform's cheapest package, Menoovo Speisekarte at 39.00 EUR per month, does not include the module. A one-off onboarding fee of 980 EUR applies, usual transaction fees are charged on payments, and each physical location requires its own licence. The figures are those of the published price list dated July 2026.

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how Menoovo KI-Sommelier handles your data.
GDPR overview
GDPR is addressed concretely rather than in passing. The terms bind both parties to the GDPR and the German BDSG, and where guest or staff data is processed the venue is controller and Menoovo GmbH processor under a separate Article 28 agreement, for which the provider supplies a standard template; without one, processing can be suspended. Sub-processors are permitted under that agreement, but none are named. The privacy notice, dated 23 July 2026, sets out the rights under Articles 15 to 21, names the Lower Saxony data protection authority as competent and points to website@menoovo.com. Processing outside the EEA is not excluded for internationally active providers, with EU standard contractual clauses as the safeguard. One limit matters: that notice explicitly covers only the public website, so the regime governing the SaaS itself is described only in the terms.
Who owns the data?
Under the terms, customer content such as menu texts, images, videos and prices stays with the venue, which grants Menoovo GmbH a licence to run the service. Menoovo may additionally exploit that content in anonymised or aggregated form for analysis, product improvement, new services and statistics, and it keeps exclusive rights to any databases, reports and AI models built from it. Copyright in AI-generated images remains with Menoovo or its licensors, the venue receiving only a perpetual non-exclusive right of use. For the personal data of guests and staff, the venue is the controller and Menoovo the processor.
Reuse rights
The venue keeps its own content and reuses it freely, without asking the provider. On a written request, Menoovo supplies the exportable data within thirty days in a structured, common, machine-readable format such as CSV or JSON: menu texts, own images and videos, and the product, order and receipt data generated through use. Software, layouts, generic templates and anonymised usage statistics are excluded. AI-generated images may be used for the venue's own business purposes indefinitely, including outside Menoovo, but that right transfers only together with the business, and the venue must meet any legal labelling duty for AI content. Under the EU Data Act the exportable data can be handed straight to an incoming provider, free of charge from 12 January 2027. In the other direction, Menoovo reserves the right to use aggregated, anonymised usage data internally, including to train its own or its licensors' AI systems, and to make it available to third parties for analysis, benchmarking and research. No opt-out from that training is documented.

Hosting summary
No hosting country or region is published. The terms refer to the data centre used by the provider when defining the service handover point, but never name or locate it, and they allow subcontractors including hosting providers without listing them. The privacy notice says recipients include hosting and IT service providers, plus Cloudflare and Microsoft depending on the visitor's interaction, and states that processing outside the European Economic Area cannot be ruled out for internationally active providers; where no adequacy decision applies, EU standard contractual clauses serve as the safeguard. The footer claim about development in Germany refers to development, not hosting, and should not be read as a storage location. The public site resolves to a Cloudflare anycast address, which says nothing about where product data is stored. The named third parties are Cloudflare Inc. in San Francisco, Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited in Dublin and an Odoo instance on a Menoovo subdomain, but all three are disclosed for the marketing website rather than for the SaaS. Jurisdiction is German: the vendor is a GmbH in Sehnde and the terms apply German law.

Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Menoovo KI-Sommelier.
- Approved menu content and usage data may be used to train the provider's AI models in anonymised or aggregated form, and no opt-out is documented
- Aggregated, anonymised data can be passed to third parties for market research, benchmarking and analysis
- Copyright in AI-generated images stays with the provider or its licensors, and the venue's right of use transfers only together with its business
- Budgeting from the advertised 39 EUR entry price understates the real cost threefold, since that package excludes the module, and the 980 EUR onboarding fee comes on top
- No hosting location is published and processing outside the EEA is not excluded, which matters for venues with strict data policies
- Leaning on automated pairings can quietly erode a team's own product knowledge, and the suggestions are only as good as the drinks list behind them: a stale list will produce confident nonsense
- A superseded old website is still online with figures that contradict the current one, including ten languages instead of 63 and a lower setup fee, and it is easy to quote by mistake
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Low for the venue, because the effort is bought rather than done. The 980 EUR onboarding covers digitising the existing menu and setting up tables, roles and channels, with team training included. Nothing is installed: the platform is a progressive web app running in the browser on iOS, Android, Windows and Linux, and guests need only a QR code. The venue must supply an up-to-date browser, stable broadband and recent devices. The work specific to this module is editorial rather than technical, namely entering the drinks list and reviewing pairings before publication. Modules can be adopted one at a time.

Should you pick Menoovo KI-Sommelier?
The Menoovo KI-Sommelier is a small, well-drawn piece of a larger German hospitality platform, and it is easier to judge than most AI features because the vendor says plainly what it does: it compares dishes with the drinks list the venue has entered, and proposes wines, beers or alcohol-free accompaniments. Human release is not an option buried in a settings pane, it is the stated default.
The commercial reality deserves attention. Menoovo advertises 39 EUR per month at the top of its price list, but the package at that price does not carry the KI-Sommelier. The first one that does costs 119 EUR per month net, per restaurant, on top of a 980 EUR onboarding fee and a twelve-month minimum term. There is no free plan and no announced trial, only a free twenty-minute demo run by the founder.
Two points warrant a closer read before signing. The terms allow approved content and usage data to feed the provider's own AI training in anonymised or aggregated form, and no opt-out is documented anywhere on the site. And no hosting country or region is published, while the privacy notice on the site explicitly covers only the marketing website; the regime governing the SaaS itself is set out only in the terms, which do offer a standard Article 28 processing agreement and take the EU Data Act seriously.
For a German restaurant, bar, hotel or event venue already moving to a digital menu, and comfortable with a German-only product under German law, the module is a coherent way to make suggestive selling work without retraining the floor. For anyone outside that description, it is the surrounding platform, not the sommelier, that is really being bought.
