The ARA620 UHP Sprayer, technical name ARA620 S G2, is a tractor-drawn ultra-high precision sprayer built by Ecorobotix SA in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland. Its intelligence sits in Plant-by-Plant AI, an in-house software layer that combines machine learning with high-speed on-board computing and runs the whole scan-to-spray cycle in under a quarter of a second.

The chain has three stages. Sense: six camera modules, mixing 3D and RGB optics, capture a uniform image of the ground ahead. Decide: the models separate soil, crop and weed, recognising more than fifty weed species, including monocots, dicots, volunteer potato and dock, down to sub-centimetre size. Act: 156 high-precision nozzles spaced 4 cm apart fire on a 6 by 6 cm spot, a target Ecorobotix says is seventy times smaller than that of other smart sprayers, with millisecond timing.

That accuracy is what unlocks the machine's headline claim. Because the spray never touches the crop, non-selective herbicides can be used with an adjustable safety zone, something a broadcast or a conventional spot sprayer cannot do. Ecorobotix reports input reductions of 50% to more than 95% depending on target, crop stage and weed pressure, together with less phytotoxicity and healthier plants.

Physically, the ARA620 is a three-module frame adjustable up to 6.20 m of working width, carried front and rear on category 2 linkage, with a 600-litre clean water tank, a 300-litre mix tank and a 15-litre induction hopper at ground level. It covers up to 4 hectares per hour at 7.2 km/h, day or night, and side covers cut spray drift by 95%, certified by the Julius-Kühn-Institut. The operator drives everything from the Ecorobotix UI app on a supplied wireless tablet, picking crop and treatment in a few clicks.

Around ten distinct spraying algorithms cover selective and non-selective herbicides, crop-only fungicide and fertiliser passes, thinning and size-based application, across a growing crop list. RTK GPS positioning to within 3 cm produces as-applied maps that feed regulatory traceability, subsidy claims and contractor invoicing through the Ecorobotix cloud platform.

A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.

  1. Contact a local Ecorobotix dealer to arrange a field demonstration and place an order, since the machine is not sold online
  2. Hitch the front tank system to the tractor's category 2 three-point linkage and the three spraying modules to the rear linkage and power take-off
  3. Check the tractor can carry the load: 1,100 kg at 1.2 m at the rear, 1,000 kg at 0.8 m at the front, with 30 l/min of hydraulic flow at 100 bar minimum
  4. Set the wheel spacing between 1.5 and 2 m and fit the tyre set matching row crops or grassland
  5. Fill through the 15-litre induction hopper at ground level, which avoids splashes and fumes
  6. Open the Ecorobotix UI app on the supplied wireless tablet and select the crop, then the treatment
  7. Let the machine adjust boom height, dose and turn behaviour on its own; concentration must be matched to the intended forward speed
  8. Drive between 0.5 and 7.2 km/h, day or night; performance stays constant across that range
  9. Fall back on the All Plants or Target Size modes if the crop has no dedicated algorithm

GDPR overview

The GDPR is named explicitly. The privacy policy of 1 September 2025 defines Data Protection Law as covering both the Swiss FADP and the GDPR, and grants the full set of rights: access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction, portability in CSV, XML or JSON, withdrawal of consent and complaint to the competent authority. Legal bases are stated one by one. A data protection officer is designated and reachable at privacy@ecorobotix.com, with a target response time of one month. Transfers outside Switzerland, including to the EEA and the United States, rely on the Swiss-U.S. and EU-U.S. Data Privacy Frameworks or on standard contractual clauses, including for intra-group transfers. No Article 27 representative is designated, and the list of processors is supplied on request rather than published.

Who owns the data?

The End-User Agreement splits ownership in two. The customer owns the Agronomic Data and the End-User Data and may use them freely. Ecorobotix nevertheless keeps a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable and royalty-free right to use both sets for its internal purposes and any other lawful purpose, including research and development and product improvement, and may use aggregated forms without restriction. Machine Related Data and Ecorobotix Content stay the exclusive property of Ecorobotix. For personal data, Ecorobotix SA is the controller when it collects directly; when a dealer supplies the data, Ecorobotix acts only as processor and the dealer is the controller.

Reuse rights

Yes. Under clause 7.2 of the End-User Agreement the customer owns the Agronomic Data and the End-User Data and may use them freely, with no permission to request from Ecorobotix: the field records, treatment histories, charts, statistics and application maps generated through the service belong to the farm. What the customer may not do is touch the other side of the fence. Machine Related Data, meaning everything technical about the sprayer's performance, safety, maintenance and faults, remains Ecorobotix property and the vendor may use it as it sees fit. Reverse engineering, decompiling or deriving the algorithms behind the service is forbidden, as is creating derivative works from it. Ecorobotix also warns that it is not a backup service and accepts no liability for lost content, so keeping an independent copy of the farm's own records is on the customer.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
Retention is set out category by category. Identification data is kept six months from the last contact, last use of the service or account closure, and payment data six months from the end of the financial year concerned. Contractual information, communications, customer generated content and machine related data are kept ten years when they matter for the accounts or for enforcing the contract, and six months otherwise. Agronomic data is deleted one year after the end-user agreement ends. Cookies last a session or six to twelve months, analytics around twenty-five months. Periods can be extended for unresolved disputes, legal, tax or audit duties, or legitimate interests such as fraud prevention. Anonymised or pseudonymised data may be kept indefinitely.

Hosting summary

Ecorobotix never names a hosting country. The privacy policy of 1 September 2025 states that personal data may be processed and transferred to third parties located outside Switzerland, including in EEA countries and the United States, and anywhere else Ecorobotix and its processors maintain data processing operations. Where the destination country is not recognised as offering adequate protection, the company relies on a valid certification, naming the Swiss-U.S. and EU-U.S. Data Privacy Frameworks and the UK extension, or on standard contractual clauses. Transfers between Ecorobotix SA, Ecorobotix Inc. in the United States and Ecorobotix France S.A.S. run under an intra-group agreement that itself incorporates those clauses. Data recorded continuously by the machine during treatment is stored in the cloud and reached through my.ecorobotix.cloud.   • The site contradicts itself on the company's founding date: the About page says October 2011, the Origins page says 2014
  • Specifications disagree too: minimum weed detection is given as 4 by 4 mm on the product page and 2 mm or more in the July 2026 brochure
  • The only free trial mentioned anywhere covers crop algorithms still in development, not the machine or the licence, so do not read it as a way to try the sprayer

Heavy on the mechanical side, light on the software side. Setting up means hitching a front tank and three rear modules on category 2 linkage, connecting the power take-off and a hydraulic circuit of at least 30 l/min at 100 bar, and adjusting wheel spacing. The tractor must carry the load. Once mounted, the brochure sums it up as plug in and go: crop and treatment are picked in a few clicks on the supplied tablet, and the machine handles boom height, dose and turns by itself. No IT skills are needed. Installation and first-line support come from the dealer.

Should you pick ARA620 UHP Sprayer?

The ARA620 is a mature product rather than a promise. ARA launched in 2021, Ecorobotix claims machines at work in more than twenty countries, and US assembly started in Kansas in 2026. What sets it apart is not that it sprays selectively, which several smart sprayers now do, but the size of the spot: at 6 by 6 cm the boom can work close enough to the crop to use non-selective herbicides safely, which is a genuinely different agronomic proposition. The supporting evidence is real but uneven. Drift reduction of 95% is certified by an independent institute; the input savings, the yield gains and the two-to-four-year payback come from grower testimonials and company trials, not from standardised third-party measurement.

The reservations are mostly contractual and commercial. There is no published price of any kind, so budgeting means calling a dealer. The software licence runs three years and renews on its own. The practical test is narrower than any of that: does an algorithm exist for the crop in question, is the crop under 40 cm, and is there a dealer in the country.
