Sensure Synapse is the software half of an industrial vision inspection system built by Sensure S.r.l., an Italian company based in Orio al Serio, near Bergamo, that has been working on this single problem since 2007 and claims more than 160 installations worldwide. The company began as a spin-off of the University of Milan and operated from Crema, in the province of Cremona, before moving to the Bergamo area. The product is marketed as the SENSURE Software Suite powered by SYNAPSE: an AI-driven solution for measurement, defect detection and classification that inspects the entire production output rather than a sample.
What sets it apart is how a recipe gets created. Three inspection modes run side by side. Self-learning handles automatic quality control: pressing a LEARN button makes the system propose a quality recipe and its tolerance thresholds on its own, with no manually classified defect samples, which removes the setup phase that usually dominates traditional vision projects. Deep learning identifies and quantifies toppings, ingredients and distribution patterns that classic techniques struggle with. Template matching covers low-variability products compared against a reference model. The measurable features are extensive: shape and size, compactness, thickness, cracks and holes, flatness, volume and symmetry; colour on top, bottom and lateral surfaces including burnt areas and flour marks; topping conformity; foreign bodies; temperature; and moisture. Vision hardware spans 2D matrix and linear cameras, 3D laser triangulation, stereo vision, structured light and time-of-flight, plus IR, SWIR, hyperspectral and thermal cameras.
A web-based interface reaches any device on the plant network. Averaged measurements are stored in a customer-chosen database and shared over industrial protocols with PLCs, robots, SCADA, ERP and MES. SYNAPSE itself keeps 24 hours of analysable history; longer periods require the DATAVIEW licence, while DATAMIND adds a digital twin for simulation, closed-loop control and predictive maintenance. The software ships alongside SENSURE STARGATE inspection machines and SENSURE CARE technical services.

GDPR overview
GDPR implementation is documented for the website only, through an iubenda policy last updated on 21 June 2023. It sets out the legal bases relied on (consent, contract, legal obligation, public interest and legitimate interest) and lists the data subject rights available: withdrawal of consent, objection, access, rectification, restriction, erasure, portability and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Requests go to the Owner and are answered within one month. As Sensure S.r.l. is established in Italy, no Article 27 representative is required or named. Note that the site never states in so many words that it is GDPR compliant, and the policy says nothing about personal data processed by an installed inspection system.
Who owns the data?
The published privacy policy covers only the www.sensure.it marketing website, not the inspection platform. On that website, Sensure S.r.l. is named as Owner and Data Controller, at Via Portico 55/b, 24050 Orio al Serio (BG), Italy, reachable at info@sensure.it. Nothing on the site assigns ownership of the production images, product measurements or process data generated by an installed system. In practice those records are written to a database chosen by the customer, on premises or on the customer's own cloud account, which leaves them under the manufacturer's control. Because no terms and conditions are published, data ownership for the product itself should be settled in the supply contract.
Reuse rights
No terms and conditions are published anywhere on the site, so there is no public clause telling customers what they may or may not do with the data their system produces. The licence itself is pre-installed on a dedicated industrial PC or on a customer server running as a virtual machine, so processing happens on site. Jurisdiction therefore follows the customer's own infrastructure choice rather than a vendor policy. Separately, the marketing website relies on Google Ireland Limited services with Ireland given as the place of processing, and the website server itself resolves to an address in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Neither of those facts describes where an installed system's data lives.
