What is Notta?
Notta is an AI meeting notetaker: it captures meetings, interviews and lectures, turns them into searchable text, then into summaries, action items and finished documents. The name is a contraction of Note Taking, and the service is published by Notta株式会社, a Tokyo company incorporated on 25 May 2022 whose English terms trade under the name Notta Inc.
Capture is unusually broad for this category. A bot can join a Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Webex call; the Mac and Windows desktop app can record the same call locally, with no bot visible to the other participants; audio and video files can be uploaded, as can YouTube links; the screen, the camera and the audio can be recorded together. A dedicated hardware device, the Notta Memo, sticks to a phone to capture calls and in-person conversations.
Transcription runs in real time and claims 58 languages. Two modes stand out: bilingual transcription, which handles two spoken languages at once, and on-device transcription, a privacy mode in which the content never leaves the machine. Live translation runs during the meeting, with the original displayed alongside.
Afterwards, AI notes produce a summary and a list of actions. Notta Brain, formerly AI Chat, answers questions across every meeting in the workspace and across attached PDF, Word and Excel files; typing an @ mention targets one meeting, folder or file. It generates slide decks exportable as .pptx or .pdf, infographics, reports and follow-up email drafts, all metered by a monthly allowance of AI credits.

There is no public API: the site publishes no developer documentation.

GDPR overview
The security page claims compliance in a single line, Compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to properly handle personal data of EU citizens and protect its privacy, alongside CCPA, HIPAA, SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001. The privacy policy, effective 11 March 2025, lists rights of access, rectification, erasure and restriction of processing, with portability and objection not named, and carries a separate California notice but no dedicated GDPR section and no stated legal basis. There is no Article 27 EU representative, no named data protection officer, no published DPA, no sub-processor list and no transfer mechanism such as standard contractual clauses. Privacy questions go to one address, support@notta.ai. The publisher is established in Japan, a country recognised as adequate by the European Commission.
Who owns the data?
The terms are explicit: the customer retains all ownership rights in Customer Data, which covers recordings, videos, images and any file uploaded to the service. By transmitting that content, the customer grants Notta a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to access, process, copy, export and display it, but only as reasonably necessary to provide, maintain and update the service, to prevent or address service, security, support or technical issues, where the law requires it, or where the customer has given express written permission. The customer warrants holding the rights to whatever is uploaded. Inside a company workspace, the administrator can reach the content of that workspace.
Reuse rights
Because ownership stays with the customer, the outputs, transcripts, summaries, translations, slides, infographics and reports can be reused, published, sold or fed into other tools without asking Notta for permission: the terms place no restriction on the downstream use of your own content, and the responsibility for holding the underlying rights stays with you. On its own side, Notta's privacy policy describes collecting account details, communications, usage data such as settings, number of files and transcription time, device data including type, unique identifier, IP address and operating system, approximate IP-based location, and username, email and timestamps from Apple, Google or Microsoft integrations. Payment runs through Stripe and is not shared with Notta. Data is shared with service providers for cloud storage, payment, voice transcription, video creation, analytics and customer service, with collaborators, workspace administrators, affiliates, and with authorities where required. Advertising and analytics cookies name partners including Facebook. One clause states that Google Workspace APIs are not used to develop, improve, or train generalized/non-personalized AI and/or ML models; no general clause covers model training on customer content.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
Notta states that it hosts all its software on Amazon Web Services, a claim repeated in the pricing FAQ, with regular backups to AWS S3 and Aurora and restoration in case of incident. Traffic is encrypted with TLS 1.2 and data at rest with AES-256. The security page describes regular vulnerability scans, periodic penetration testing, a structured incident response and an internal security group with a chief privacy officer and a chief information security officer in post. Depending on the plan, SSO, IP restriction, roles and permissions and audit logs apply. On-device transcription avoids sending content anywhere at all, since nothing leaves the machine. What is missing is what a procurement team needs most: no hosting country and no region are announced, so there is no data residency commitment. The site's IP address, 143.204.55.107, resolves to an AWS CloudFront edge node geolocated in Zurich, Switzerland; that is the position of a delivery node, not of a storage location, and it says nothing about the hosting jurisdiction.

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Notta.
- The English pages carry no company name, no address and no telephone number: that information exists only on the Japanese pages /company and /tokushoho. A buyer who stays inside the English section will conclude the publisher cannot be identified.
- Two publisher identities coexist on the same site: Notta Inc. in the English terms and privacy policy, Notta株式会社 in the Japanese legal notice.
- The English terms designate the law and the exclusive jurisdiction of Hong Kong although the identified publisher is Japanese, so a dispute would not be heard where the company sits.
- GDPR compliance is claimed with no Article 27 representative, no data protection officer, no DPA, no sub-processor list and no stated transfer mechanism behind it.
- Hosting is announced as AWS with no country and no region, no retention period appears anywhere in the privacy policy, and an Auto Deletion feature is listed in the pricing table without ever being documented.
- No general clause covers the training of AI models on customer content; the only clause of that kind concerns Google Workspace APIs. A recording tool accumulates an unusually intimate corpus, from negotiations to one-to-ones to patient conversations, and the absence of a documented opt-out leaves that corpus under a commitment nobody has written down.
- The terms hand the legal risk of recording back to the user: It may be an offense in your jurisdiction to record other individuals without their prior written consent. Beyond the law, habitual recording changes how people speak in a room, and delegating note-taking entirely erodes the recall and the synthesis that writing notes by hand produces.
