What is Lyncis?

Lyncis is an instrument maker rather than a piece of software. UAB Lyncis, registered in Vilnius in December 2016, designs, manufactures, calibrates and commissions industrial analyzers built on Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy. A pulsed laser is focused onto the material; the spot turns to plasma; as the plasma cools it emits light; a spectrometer converts that light into a wavelength spectrum, and the concentration of each element is calculated from it. The shot repeats hundreds of times per minute, so a reading describes the bulk of the stream rather than one point on it, and results reach the plant control system every few minutes.

Three products share that engine. The Cross-belt Analyzer sits above a running conveyor and reads bulk material with no sampling and no sample preparation. SlurryView measures feed, concentrate or tailings directly in the pipe and can be coupled to a third-party multiplexer, so a single instrument covers several streams. The Express Analyzer handles a collected sample in roughly three to five minutes, above a small conveyor after a feed hopper, on an X-Y table holding about 200 ml, or on a flat moving surface; crushing to 10 mm is generally enough, which removes the two to twenty-four hours a conventional laboratory preparation would have cost.

Two claims carry the commercial argument. LIBS emits no gamma, neutron or X-ray radiation, so no government licence, no permit and no radiation-handling staff are required. And LIBS reads light elements — lithium, carbon, silicon, magnesium, aluminium, phosphorus, boron — that XRF cannot measure at all.
