Scopes
Scopes is a Swedish AI platform that lets small and mid-sized companies run their own double materiality assessment in hours, producing a CSRD- and ESRS-aligned report, priority matrix and shareable documentation without hiring consultants.
What is Scopes?
Scopes is a Swedish SaaS platform built around a single job: helping a small or mid-sized company run its own double materiality assessment under the EU sustainability reporting rules. The company positions itself as "AI for planetary decisions", and what it sells is a guided workflow rather than a consulting engagement. The platform proposes; the customer decides.
Double materiality has two axes and Scopes covers both. Impact materiality looks at how the business affects people and the planet. Financial materiality looks at how sustainability topics affect revenue, costs, access to capital and licence to operate. The methodology follows the ESRS and official double materiality guidance, and the results cite their regulatory sources: EFRAG, EUR-Lex (CELEX:32023R2772), the EU Taxonomy, the SASB materiality finder and OECD data.
The workflow runs in five steps. You enter your organisation number and Scopes retrieves the registered company data. You upload documents and answer guided questions about your activity and value chain. The platform then runs the assessment against EU regulation, presents impacts, risks and opportunities in a dashboard, and lets you export a report to share externally. The AI suggests topics, scoring and wording based on your sector, but as the site puts it, you make the decisions. Technically, the privacy policy describes those AI features as RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) applied to customer data.
Five deliverables are advertised: a complete assessment across the relevant ESRS topics, a prioritisation matrix, documentation forming an audit trail of methodology, scoring and decisions, an overview of impacts, risks and opportunities, and recommended actions. The commercial argument is blunt. Consultants take months and cost six figures, spreadsheets end in chaos, Scopes takes hours, and it is sold as a subscription instead of a new consulting project every year.
Access is web-only, through app.scopes.se, with accounts tied to a company domain and the service reserved for business use. Alongside the platform, Scopes sells human services, including VSME support, a light Scope 1 and 2 climate calculation, a CSRD and ESRS gap analysis, double materiality workshops, transition plans and circularity strategy. A separate free tool, the ESG Quick Check, gives an indicative and explicitly non-binding screening in ten questions.
What it does
- Run a full CSRD and ESRS double materiality assessment in-house, without a consultant
- Score and prioritise impacts, risks and opportunities across the relevant ESRS topics
- Produce a visual prioritisation matrix of sustainability topics
- Export a documented report to share with customers, banks, investors and auditors
- Answer customer, bank and tender ESG questionnaires, including VSME requests
- Keep an audit trail of the methodology, the scoring and the decisions taken
- Get an indicative ESRS screening in three minutes through the free ESG Quick Check
When to use Scopes / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if Scopes is the right fit.
When to use Scopes
- European SMEs, Swedish ones in particular, that fall under or are exposed to CSRD, ESRS or the voluntary VSME standard
- Companies with annual revenue between 0 and 500 MSEK, the three bands the pricing plans are built around
- Suppliers being asked for sustainability data by customers, banks, investors or public tenders
- Businesses with no in-house ESG expertise and no budget for a consulting engagement
- Teams that want to own the assessment process themselves, with no consultant dependency and no handovers
When not to use Scopes
- Consumers and private individuals: the terms restrict the service to business use, and accounts are tied to a company domain
- Large corporates above 500 MSEK in revenue, who are routed to a custom quote through sales rather than a self-serve plan
- Non-Swedish companies hoping to try the free ESG Quick Check, which requires a ten-digit Swedish organisation number
- Developers looking for a public API, a mobile app or ready-made connectors into existing systems
- Buyers who want a free trial, card payment or month-to-month flexibility: plans are invoiced in SEK on a 12-month commitment
How to use Scopes
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Optionally start with the free ESG Quick Check: enter a Swedish organisation number and an email address, answer ten questions in around three minutes, and get an indicative screening back by email
- Create an account on app.scopes.se using your company domain, since the service is reserved for business use
- Set up your company by entering your organisation number, which Scopes uses to pull in the registered company data
- Pick the plan matching your revenue band, Small, Medium or Large, or contact sales if you are above 500 MSEK
- Map your context: upload the relevant documents and answer the guided questions about your activity and value chain
- Let Scopes run the assessment against EU regulation, with AI suggestions for topics, scoring and wording based on your sector
- Review and adjust the suggestions yourself, since the platform is explicit that the decisions remain yours
- Read the results in the dashboard: impacts, risks and opportunities, with a visual prioritisation matrix
- Export the report as a PDF and share it with customers, banks, investors or auditors, along with the audit trail of methodology and decisions
- Email the Scopes team if you get stuck; product support and an onboarding session are included in every plan
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Pricing is fully public: three plans with ordinary and introductory rates, monthly and annual, and a complete comparison table
- The privacy policy names its subprocessors (Supabase, Vercel, Clerk, Stripe, Google Drive, OpenAI) and commits to EU storage with EU/EEA processing
- Explicit statement that customer data is not used to train external models, together with a quantified retention period of the customer relationship plus up to 24 months
- Methodology anchored in the ESRS with cited regulatory sources (EFRAG, EUR-Lex, EU Taxonomy), and an audit trail of methodology, scoring and decisions delivered with the assessment
- No setup or onboarding fees, and plans can be moved up or down at any time
- A real free entry point with no commitment, the three-minute ESG Quick Check, separate from the paid platform
- The company and its beneficial owners are identifiable in the Swedish register, the organisation number is published on the site, and institutional backers are named (Almi Invest, SPC Sweden, Tillvaxtverket)
Cons
- No data processing agreement is mentioned or offered anywhere, although the service is B2B and processes personal data on customers' behalf
- No security certification is claimed, neither SOC 2 nor ISO 27001, and the Trust & security material amounts to three cards on the home page
- No support address is published: the only email addresses are the CEO's, sales and privacy@, and there is no status page, SLA or availability guarantee
- The site contradicts itself on the plans: /pricing calls them Small, Medium and Large while /get-started gives the same amounts as Core, Pro and Max, and the included-features list advertises up to 5 analyses per year where the comparison table says 1, 3 or 10
- No public API, no mobile app and no third-party integrations
- Prices are quoted in SEK only, billed by invoice on a 12-month commitment, with Stripe mentioned only as a future possibility
- Loose ends elsewhere: robots.txt and sitemap.xml still point at the planetary-lens.lovable.app staging domain, the postal address on the legal pages has no street number, and the free ESG Quick Check is in practice restricted to Swedish organisations
Pricing & Plans
Scopes offers no free plan and no free trial of the platform; every tier is paid. Prices are set by revenue band, quoted in Swedish kronor and exclusive of VAT. The entry-level plan, Small, covers companies with 0 to 10 MSEK in revenue at an ordinary price of 24,900 kr per year, equivalent to 2,075 SEK per month, currently reduced to 19,900 kr per year (1,658 SEK per month) under an Early bird offer. Medium costs 49,900 kr per year and Large 99,900 kr per year at ordinary rates, while companies above 500 MSEK in revenue are quoted individually by sales. A 12-month commitment applies, there are no setup or onboarding fees, and payment is currently made by invoice, with Stripe named only as a future possibility. A separate free tool, the ESG Quick Check, is available without any subscription.

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how Scopes handles your data.
GDPR overview
GDPR compliance is claimed explicitly and repeatedly, in the privacy policy, in the terms and in the Trust & security section of the home page. Scopes Group AB (org. no. 559443-3368, Visby, Sweden) is named as data controller and is therefore established inside the EU. The stated legal bases are performance of the contract and legitimate interest. Data subject rights are listed, access, rectification, erasure, restriction and portability, with requests sent to privacy@scopes.se. Data is stored in the EU under technical and organisational security measures, and the named subprocessors are declared GDPR-compliant and EU/EEA-based. A cookie banner using Consent Mode v2 blocks GA4 and the Meta Pixel until consent is given. What is absent: no DPO is named, no data processing agreement is offered and no security certification is claimed. The policy is effective 6 October 2025.
Who owns the data?
Scopes Group AB (organisation number 559443-3368) is named as the data controller in the privacy policy, with privacy@scopes.se as the single contact for data questions. The terms state that all customer-specific data is stored in an organization-bound database and is not shared with third parties except as described in the privacy policy. Intellectual property in the platform and its content belongs to Scopes or its licensors, and customers receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence for internal use only. Neither document contains a clause transferring ownership of customer data to Scopes; equally, neither states in so many words that the customer retains it. Both documents carry an effective date of 6 October 2025.
Reuse rights
The privacy policy lists what is collected: name, email address, company name, organisation number, user activity and billing information. It is processed to provide, manage and improve the service and to meet contractual and legal obligations, on the legal bases of contract performance and Scopes' legitimate interest. AI features analyse customer data through RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), with all processing said to occur under customer control and not to be used for external model training. Data is shared only with named subprocessors, Supabase, Vercel, Clerk, Stripe, Google Drive and OpenAI, all declared GDPR-compliant and storing within the EU/EEA. On the customer side, the output is clearly meant to be reused: Scopes presents the exported report as something to share with customers, banks, investors and auditors, and describes no permission step for doing so. The licence over the platform itself is narrower, limited to internal business use. The free ESG Quick Check collects an organisation number and an email address in order to send its result.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
Scopes states that customer data is stored within the EU and that its subprocessors, Supabase, Vercel, Clerk, Stripe, Google Drive and OpenAI, comply with GDPR and store data within the EU/EEA. Secure EU data storage is listed as a feature of all three plans, and the Trust & security section of the home page repeats that data stays in the EU and that the company follows GDPR and modern security practices. Beyond that, precision is limited: no specific country is named, no data centre or hosting region is identified, no hosting certification is claimed and no audit report is published. The application backend visible in the site bundle is Supabase. One point to avoid misreading: the public website is delivered through Cloudflare, whose anycast address resolves to a node in the United States, but that concerns the delivery of the marketing site and says nothing about where customer data is stored.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Scopes.
- AI-generated insights come with no warranty of completeness or accuracy and are explicitly not legal, financial or environmental advice; a regulatory-grade assessment still needs human judgement and, where it feeds reporting, professional review
- The free ESG Quick Check is an indicative, non-binding screening, and treating its output as a finished double materiality assessment would be a mistake
- Convenience can turn into over-reliance: the platform proposes topics, scoring and wording, and it is easy to accept those suggestions without the internal debate a materiality assessment is meant to provoke
- Documents describing your activity and value chain are uploaded to a platform that offers no data processing agreement and no security certification, and that lists OpenAI among its subprocessors
- Plans carry a 12-month commitment, prices are exclusive of VAT and in SEK only, and Scopes reserves the right to adjust prices with reasonable notice; either party may terminate with 30 days' notice, and Scopes immediately in case of material breach
- The Early bird price is temporary with no published end date, and the plan reverts to the ordinary price once the period ends
- The publisher is young and small, incorporated on 1 August 2023 with 1 to 4 employees, 1.9 MSEK of revenue and a -0.6 MSEK result in 2025, and offers no uptime guarantee or status page; the site's internal inconsistencies over plan names and the number of analyses suggest pages are not always kept in sync
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Very low. Scopes is a web application with nothing to install, no API to connect and no integration work: you create an account on app.scopes.se with a company domain, enter your organisation number and upload documents. Setup is advertised in minutes, and no prior CSRD knowledge is needed since the platform explains each question. An onboarding session is listed in every plan and email support is included. The real effort is editorial rather than technical, namely gathering documents and answering guided questions, which Scopes puts at a few hours of focused work for a first assessment.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know CSRD or ESRS to use Scopes?
How long does a double materiality assessment take?
What do I actually get at the end?
Is there a free trial or a free plan?
How much does Scopes cost?

What is double materiality?
What is the difference between CSRD, ESRS and VSME?
Can I change plan, and what happens when the introductory price ends?
How do I pay?
Should you pick Scopes?
Scopes does one thing and says so plainly: it lets a small or mid-sized company run its own double materiality assessment under CSRD and the ESRS, in hours rather than through a consulting project measured in months. The target is explicit, European and largely Swedish SMEs up to 500 MSEK in revenue with no in-house ESG team and no advisory budget, and the product is shaped accordingly: guided questions, sector-aware AI suggestions, a prioritisation matrix, a dashboard and an exportable report with an audit trail.
Two things stand out against the wider ESG software market. Pricing is fully public, plan by plan, with ordinary and introductory rates and a complete comparison table. And the privacy policy actually names its subprocessors, commits to EU storage and states that customer data is not used to train external models, with retention set at the customer relationship plus up to 24 months.
The gaps are just as concrete. No data processing agreement is offered, no SOC 2 or ISO 27001 is claimed, no support address is published, and there is no API and no availability guarantee. The site also contradicts itself: plan names differ between two pages, and the number of analyses included is stated two different ways. The publisher is young and small, incorporated in August 2023 with a handful of employees, backed by Almi Invest and Science Park Gotland Invest.
For an SME that needs a defensible, documented first assessment and can live with a 12-month commitment billed in SEK, Scopes is a credible and unusually transparent option. Anyone whose procurement checklist requires a DPA, a certification or an integration path should ask those questions before signing, and should confirm the current price and plan contents directly with the vendor.
