AI Code Convert
A free browser-based AI tool that converts code between 102 languages and frameworks, generates code from plain-English descriptions, and explains, debugs or optimises existing snippets. No account, no installation and no paid tier.
What is AI Code Convert?
AI Code Convert is a free web service that puts a language model behind a two-box interface: you pick a source in the From selector, a target in the To selector, paste your code and press Generate. It has been online since at least June 2023, when the Wayback Machine took its first snapshot of the domain.
Two modules form the core. AICodeGenerator turns a description written in ordinary language into working code, while AICodeTranslator rewrites existing code from one language into another. Six further tools have grown around them, namely an assistant, an explainer, a debugger, an optimiser, a general helper and a Base64 encoder and decoder, alongside a separate Image to HTML converter that reads a screenshot and returns markup.
The selector is the real measure of the tool: 102 entries plus automatic detection. It reaches well past programming languages in the strict sense. Frameworks are there, including React, Vue, Angular, Next.js, Django, Spring, Ruby on Rails, Tailwind and Three.js, and so is infrastructure such as Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Travis CI, GitLab CI, Git and Linux. Databases, message queues, observability stacks, security frameworks, embedded targets like Arduino and ESP32, trading languages such as Pine Script and MQL5, and long-lived legacy including COBOL, Fortran, Assembly and VBA all appear. Even Morse, hexadecimal, binary and pseudo-code are offered. Explanations can be returned in eleven natural languages, from English and French through to Bengali, Persian and Simplified Chinese.
Nothing is paid for. No pricing page exists among the site's fifteen routes, and the service is funded by Google AdSense advertising and voluntary Ko-fi donations. An account is optional, opened with Google, GitHub or a magic link, and it unlocks no extra tier.
The counterweight is opacity. No company, no postal address and no named founder appears anywhere. The only contact is a personal Gmail address hidden behind Cloudflare obfuscation on the two legal pages, requests are capped at 30,000 characters, there is no public API, and the Terms warn that output may need manual review.
What it does
- Convert a snippet from one programming language into another
- Generate working code from a requirement written in plain language
- Explain what an unfamiliar piece of code actually does
- Debug a snippet and surface the error inside it
- Optimise existing code for readability or performance
- Turn a screenshot or image of an interface into HTML
- Encode and decode Base64 strings
When to use AI Code Convert / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if AI Code Convert is the right fit.
When to use AI Code Convert
- Developers porting a snippet from one language to another, such as Python to Java, TypeScript to Rust or Swift to Kotlin
- Students and self-taught programmers who want an unfamiliar language explained in terms of one they already know
- Engineers working on legacy code, since COBOL, Fortran, Assembly, Pascal and VBA all appear in the selector
- Freelancers and small teams with no tooling budget, because the whole service is free and needs no account
- Embedded and hardware developers targeting Arduino, ESP8266 or ESP32 boards
When not to use AI Code Convert
- Teams handling proprietary or client-owned source code, as nothing on the site explains what becomes of what you paste
- Organisations under a compliance obligation: there is no GDPR statement, no data processing agreement and no subprocessor list
- Anyone who needs automation, since no public API is documented anywhere
- Engineers converting an entire codebase, because each request is capped at 30,000 characters
- Buyers who need an identifiable vendor, a contract or a service level agreement: no company, address or owner is published
How to use AI Code Convert
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Open the site in any browser; no account, installation or API key is required to begin
- Pick your starting point in the From selector: an existing language, or Natural Language if you would rather describe what you need
- Choose the target language in the To selector, using the built-in search box to find it in the long list
- Paste your code, or write your requirement as a detailed, point-by-point description
- Set the output natural language if you want explanations in something other than English
- Press Generate and watch the result stream into the output pane
- Read the result, which arrives with syntax highlighting and line numbers
- Copy the output to your clipboard, or use Download Code to save it as a file
- Switch to the Explainer, Debugger or Optimizer tool if you need a snippet analysed rather than converted
- Sign in with Google, GitHub or a magic link only if you want your session tied to an account
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Completely free, with no paid tier, no displayed quota and no upsell
- Works without an account, without installation and without an API key
- Unusually broad coverage of 102 languages, frameworks, infrastructure tools and legacy targets
- Seven tools beyond conversion alone, including explanation, debugging and optimisation
- Explanations available in eleven natural languages
- The Terms explicitly leave you every right to your source code
- Immediate to learn: paste, choose, generate, copy
Cons
- No identifiable legal entity, postal address or named owner anywhere on the site
- The only published contact is a personal Gmail address, obfuscated on both legal pages
- A skeletal privacy policy with no retention period, no subprocessors and no enumerated rights
- No mention of the GDPR at all, and nothing said about whether submitted code trains models
- No public API, so the tool cannot be automated or built into a pipeline
- Requests capped at 30,000 characters, which rules out whole-codebase work
- Accuracy is not guaranteed and the Terms state that results may need manual review
Pricing & Plans
AI Code Convert is provided free of charge in its entirety. There is no paid plan, no subscription and no lowest price point to report: the site publishes no pricing page, and every tool is presented as free to use. The service is funded indirectly, through Google AdSense advertising and voluntary donations collected on Ko-fi. Creating an account is optional and carries no cost.
Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how AI Code Convert handles your data.
GDPR overview
There is no GDPR implementation to report, and that is the finding rather than a gap in our review: the terms GDPR and General Data Protection Regulation appear nowhere on the site, neither in the rendered text nor in the underlying HTML. The privacy policy, last updated on 13 September 2024, opens by promising to tell you about your privacy rights and how the law protects you, then never enumerates them. No legal basis is stated, no retention period, no right of access, rectification or erasure, no Article 27 representative in the European Union, no data protection officer, no subprocessor list and no data processing agreement. The only privacy channel offered is the contact email at the foot of the policy. Silence is not proof of non-compliance, but a European user has nothing here to rely on.
Who owns the data?
The Terms of Service are unusually clear on this one point: you keep every right to the source code you submit, and the publisher states that it claims no intellectual property over the code you convert. Ownership of the site itself, meaning its own content, features and functionality, is asserted by AI Code Converter. Beyond that declaration the documents fall silent. The privacy policy lists only an email address and usage data as personal information collected, and never describes what becomes of the code you paste, who may read it, how long it is held, or whether any third party processes it on the publisher's behalf.
Reuse rights
For your own material the position is permissive. Because you retain all rights to your source code and the publisher claims none over the converted output, you may reuse, publish, modify or sell the generated code without asking permission. The Terms attach no attribution requirement and no licence condition to results. The restrictions imposed concern conduct rather than reuse: you may not upload malicious code, breach or circumvent security measures, infringe third-party intellectual property, or run unauthorised automated access. Content belonging to the site itself is separately protected and is not yours to reuse.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
The site publishes nothing about where data is hosted or under which jurisdiction it is processed. No hosting country, no region, no cloud provider and no subprocessor is named in the privacy policy, in the terms, or anywhere else. The only observable element is infrastructural rather than declarative: the domain is served from behind Cloudflare, resolving to the anycast address 172.67.168.207, which geolocation places in the United States. That identifies the content delivery network fronting the site and nothing more. It does not indicate where requests are processed, where the model runs, or where any stored data resides, since an anycast address answers from whichever edge node happens to be nearest the visitor. For a European user this leaves no documented transfer mechanism, no standard contractual clauses and no stated jurisdiction. Anyone with a data residency requirement should treat the question as unresolved rather than infer a location from the network evidence.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting AI Code Convert.
- Never paste proprietary, client-owned or secret code: nothing in the documents explains what becomes of it
- Treat every result as a draft, since converted code can be subtly wrong in ways that still compile and run
- Leaning on the explainer instead of reading code yourself erodes the very skill you are trying to build
- Converted legacy code can carry old security flaws across, or introduce new ones, with no review step to catch them
- The publisher may change the Terms at any time, with changes effective the moment they are posted
- Advertising and analytics trackers, including Google AdSense, Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity and Baidu Analytics, run on the pages you use
- With no identifiable operator behind the site, there is nobody to hold to account if the service disappears or mishandles your data
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Setup is effectively nil. The tool runs entirely in a browser, with nothing to install, nothing to configure, no API key to obtain and no payment step. You reach the page and can convert a snippet within seconds. An account is optional and can be opened with Google, GitHub or a magic link, but it is not needed for normal use. The only judgement asked of you is knowing which source and target to pick from the selector, and even that is softened by the automatic detection option for the input language.

Should you pick AI Code Convert?
AI Code Convert delivers a great deal for nothing. The breadth of its selector is genuinely unusual, spanning 102 languages, frameworks, databases, message queues, embedded targets and legacy dialects, from Python and Rust through to COBOL, Arduino and Pine Script. The seven tools arranged around the converter mean you can explain, debug and optimise a snippet in the same place you translate it. There is no account to create, no key to obtain and no paid tier waiting further down the funnel. For a student meeting an unfamiliar language, or a developer porting a function against a deadline, that combination is hard to argue with.
The reservations concern the publisher rather than the product. No company, no address and no named owner appears anywhere on the site, and the only contact is a personal Gmail address obfuscated on the two legal pages. The privacy policy is a skeleton: no retention period, no subprocessors, no enumerated rights and no mention of the GDPR at all. Most consequentially, nothing states what happens to the code you paste or whether it feeds model training.
That draws a clear line. For public, throwaway or learning code the tool is an easy recommendation. For anything proprietary, client-owned or subject to a compliance regime, the absence of answers is itself the answer. Add the 30,000-character cap, the lack of any public API and the Terms' own warning that output may need manual review, and the sensible posture emerges: use it as a fast, free assistant on non-sensitive code, read everything it returns, and do not build a process on top of it.
