Smart Data Pay
Smart Data Pay is a French AI copilot for payroll managers, accounting firms and HR teams: it answers sourced questions on collective bargaining agreements, runs simulators, audits payslips and analyses DSN filings, but does not issue payslips.
What is Smart Data Pay?
Smart Data Pay is a French SaaS assistant that its publisher positions as an AI copilot for payroll professionals. It targets one market only: French payroll, where the applicable rules are scattered across the Code du travail, the conventions collectives (sector-level collective bargaining agreements), the BOSS social security guidance and the monthly DSN declaration. The publisher, a Paris-based SAS, says the company was founded by payroll managers who lived with that dispersion.
The product is organised in modules. The Agent Paie answers questions in plain French with replies the vendor describes as sourced and traceable, launches simulators inside the conversation and has a second AI audit the calculation. A library of more than 600 collective agreements provides summaries and full official texts and compares the contractual rule with the statutory one so that the more favourable applies. More than 50 simulators cover salary continuation, IJSS daily allowances, absences, dismissal and settlement indemnities, leave, intern and apprentice pay. A payroll checking module audits a payslip or an entire payroll run, covering contributions, CSG, the Fillon reduction, net social amount, withholding tax and overtime, compares two documents and reconciles a DSN filing with the contribution statement. A management dashboard turns DSN data into headcount, payroll mass and gender equality index reporting exportable to Word or PDF. Further modules handle DSN corrections, an OpenPaye connector, company social data searchable by SIRET, a payroll calendar, searchable legal resources and more than 190 AI-generated contracts and HR templates. The Premium plan adds six autonomous agents operating on net-entreprises, URSSAF, e-mail, electronic signature, rupture conventionnelle and payroll variables, the vendor stating that a human always validates sensitive actions.
On the AI side, the publisher says it runs a self-hosted open-source model in France, pseudonymises identifiers before inference and trains nothing on customer content. Two limits come from the vendor itself: this is not payroll software and it issues no official payslip, so it complements a payroll engine rather than replacing it, and the DSN correction tool is described as recent and under continuous improvement. A free browser extension, the Calculatrice du Gestionnaire de Paie, is offered for Chrome and announced on the Microsoft Edge add-ons store.

When to use Smart Data Pay / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if Smart Data Pay is the right fit.
When to use Smart Data Pay
- Payroll managers and payroll officers who work on French payroll every day and need a rule checked, sourced and simulated quickly
- Accounting firms and payroll bureaus handling several client portfolios across different collective bargaining agreements
- HR and payroll departments of French SMEs that run their payroll in-house alongside an existing payroll engine
- Very small businesses, independents and small practices that need an entry-level plan, which the vendor positions as the Essentiel tier
- Larger firms and companies looking to automate net-entreprises, URSSAF and rupture conventionnelle workflows through the Premium autonomous agents
When not to use Smart Data Pay
- Organisations operating outside France: the whole corpus is French labour law, French collective bargaining agreements, BOSS guidance, DSN and URSSAF, with no other jurisdiction announced
- Teams looking for a payroll engine: the vendor states that Smart Data Pay is not payroll software and does not produce official payslips
- Non-French-speaking users, since the interface, the sources and the generated documents are French-only
- Anyone who needs binding legal advice: the terms of use present the assistant as documentary support that does not replace a qualified professional
- Users wanting a permanently free tool, a public API or a mobile app: there is no free plan beyond the trial, no developer documentation and no iOS or Android application
How to use Smart Data Pay
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Start the free trial from the web application: the vendor announces 30 days with no bank card required
- Create an account with a professional email, company name, role and payroll headcount, then enable the two-factor authentication recommended in the terms of use
- Begin straight away: the FAQ promises immediate access after sign-up, and the terms of sale commit to activating the service within 48 hours at most
- Ask the Agent Paie a first question in plain French and check the sources cited with the answer
- Search the collective agreement library, compare the contractual and statutory rules and save the agreements you use most
- Launch a simulator directly inside the conversation and have the result emailed to you
- Upload a payslip, a payroll run or a DSN file to be checked, compared or reconciled with the contribution statement
- Connect your OpenPaye domains to pull in client files, establishments and employees and pre-fill the tools
- Generate contracts and HR documents from the templates module, then export them to Word or PDF or send them by email
- Book a demonstration before subscribing, either an individual slot or the 45-minute group session, and expect assisted onboarding for the Premium agents
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Hosting and AI inference kept in France and the European Union, with a contractual undertaking, written into every data processing agreement, that no data leaves the EU
- Subprocessors published by name, purpose and location, with prior notification of any change and 30 days to raise a reasoned objection
- No training on customer data: the self-hosted open-source model is frozen and identifiers are pseudonymised before inference
- Unusually broad functional coverage for a single subscription: agreements, simulators, payroll checking, DSN, documents and autonomous agents
- Answers presented as sourced and traceable, with the calculation audited by a second AI and a systematic comparison between contractual and statutory rules
- Article 28 data processing agreement signed before any employee data is processed, free employee information notice supplied to clients, and breaches notified to B2B customers within 24 hours
- Thirty-day free trial without a bank card, five users included in every plan and two months free on an annual commitment
Cons
- Strictly French scope: collective agreements, Code du travail, BOSS, DSN and URSSAF make the tool unusable outside France
- Interface, content and generated documents in French only
- No permanent free plan: entry at EUR 99 excluding VAT per month, and EUR 499 excluding VAT per month for Premium plus a EUR 1,000 setup fee waived only on an annual commitment
- No public API, no developer documentation and no iOS or Android application; the only installable artefact is a browser extension
- Performance figures and social proof are unsourced: the vendor claims two hours saved per day and 87% of errors avoided, and displays a 4.8/5 Trustpilot badge with no link, while no third-party security certification such as SOC 2, ISO 27001 or HDS is claimed
- The site contradicts itself: the FAQ says data is refreshed once a month while the agreements module advertises weekly updates, and the support address differs between the marketing site and the application
- The DSN correction tool is presented by the vendor itself as recent and under continuous improvement, and the marketing site is a JavaScript-only single-page application whose content is unreadable without running the bundle
Pricing & Plans
There is no permanent free plan. The vendor offers a 30-day free trial with no bank card required, then three paid subscriptions, all priced excluding VAT: Essentiel at EUR 99 per month or EUR 990 per year, Cabinet at EUR 199 per month or EUR 1,990 per year, and Premium · Agents at EUR 499 per month or EUR 4,990 per year, each including five users, with additional licences at EUR 15, EUR 29 and EUR 79 respectively. The lowest entry point is therefore EUR 99 excluding VAT per month. Payment is made by card through Stripe, or by SEPA direct debit or bank transfer for annual subscriptions. The terms of sale provide that any price increase on a running subscription is notified 60 days in advance, with the right to terminate without penalty.

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how Smart Data Pay handles your data.
GDPR overview
GDPR implementation is documented in detail. A dedicated compliance page, updated 18 April 2026, names SMART DATA PAY (SAS, SIREN 953 212 503, Paris) as controller for its own customer data and as an Article 28 processor for the employee data held in client files, with the company's president acting as GDPR referent. A data processing agreement is signed before any processing and supplied on request, and the publisher commits to no transfer outside the European Union. Breaches are notified to the CNIL within 72 hours and to B2B clients within 24 hours. Rights are exercised from the account or by email, answered within one month, with a right to complain to the CNIL. Stated security measures include TLS 1.3, AES-256 at rest, bcrypt hashing, optional two-factor authentication and encrypted daily backups. No third-party certification such as SOC 2, ISO 27001 or HDS is claimed.
Who owns the data?
Under the terms of use in force since 18 April 2026, content submitted by the user remains the user's property; the publisher receives only a storage and processing right limited to delivering the service. The platform itself, including its code, design and databases, stays the exclusive property of SMART DATA PAY, with a right of use limited to the subscription period. For imported DSN files and the employee data they contain, the client company remains the controller and Smart Data Pay acts as a processor under Article 28 GDPR. After termination, customers have 30 days to download their data, and a destruction certificate can be requested under the data processing agreement.
Reuse rights
Users may reuse what the service returns without asking permission: simulation results, HR dashboards, contracts and templates can be exported to Word or PDF, emailed to clients and used in day-to-day work. On the publisher's side, the privacy policy sets out each purpose with its legal basis: account management, the conversational assistant and support (performance of the contract), invoicing (legal obligation), DSN analysis and HR indicators (contract and legitimate interest), security and fraud prevention (legitimate interest), B2B prospecting (legitimate interest with a right to object) and the newsletter (opt-in consent). The publisher states that data is never sold, never used for targeted advertising and never used to train a third-party AI model, and that no user content trains any model at all. Identifiers such as social security numbers, names, SIRET numbers, IBANs, emails and phone numbers are pseudonymised server-side before inference, the model is frozen, and no automated decision-making within the meaning of Article 22 GDPR is performed. Cookies are limited to strictly necessary ones plus anonymised audience measurement, with no advertising or profiling cookies.

Hosting summary
All processing takes place in the European Union. The legal notice and the subprocessor page, updated 18 April 2026, name each provider and its location: Supabase for the database, authentication and row-level security in Paris (eu-west-3); Vercel for the web application and CDN in Paris (cdg1); a sovereign AI infrastructure in France running the self-hosted open-source model; Stripe Payments Europe in Ireland for payments and PCI-DSS tokenisation; Sentry in Frankfurt for monitoring with automatic masking; Resend in the European Union for transactional email; and the French payroll connectors Silae and OpenPaye. The publisher gives a contractual undertaking, written into every data processing agreement, to transfer no personal data outside the European Union. Any change to the subprocessor list is notified to B2B customers before it takes effect, with 30 days to raise a reasoned objection. Data is encrypted with TLS 1.3 in transit and AES-256 at rest, backups are encrypted daily and restoration is tested quarterly. No third-party hosting certification, such as the French HDS health data standard, is claimed.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Smart Data Pay.
- The assistant is documentary support, not personalised legal advice: the terms of use say so explicitly and the legal notice places the responsibility for every decision on the user, who must verify an answer before acting on it
- Autonomous agents act on official portals such as net-entreprises, URSSAF and TéléRC. The vendor states that a human always validates sensitive actions, which only holds if that supervision is genuinely exercised rather than assumed
- Payroll connector credentials are stored, encrypted, on the publisher's side, so a compromised account would expose access to the payroll software itself
- The site contradicts itself on freshness, promising monthly refresh in the FAQ and weekly updates on the agreements module, so a rule believed to be current may not be
- The Why section cites ChatGPT and Claude among the technologies used, while the privacy policy states that no third-party AI provider has access to messages; the two claims are difficult to reconcile and matter for confidentiality
- Reassurance figures are unsourced: the vendor claims two hours saved per day and 87% of errors avoided, and shows a 4.8/5 Trustpilot badge with no link to the review page, while no third-party certification supports the security commitments
- Contractual liability is capped at the amounts paid over the preceding twelve months, and leaning on a single assistant for regulatory watch can gradually erode the habit of reading the primary text
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Low for the core product. It is a web application with nothing to install: access is immediate after sign-up and the terms of sale commit to activation within 48 hours at most. An up-to-date browser is enough, and two-factor authentication is available and recommended. Connecting OpenPaye domains adds a short configuration step. Two items require more effort: the Premium autonomous agents come with paid assisted onboarding, EUR 1,000 excluding VAT and waived on an annual commitment, and the free calculator extension must be installed manually by unzipping a folder and loading it in Chrome developer mode.

Should you pick Smart Data Pay?
Smart Data Pay is a vertical tool with a deliberately narrow field: French payroll, and nothing else. For payroll managers, accounting firms, payroll bureaus and HR departments working under French labour law, the functional coverage is unusually wide for a single subscription, from a sourced conversational assistant to more than 600 collective agreements, more than 50 simulators, payslip and DSN checking, a management dashboard, document generation and, on the top plan, autonomous agents that operate on the public portals.
The most credible strength is data sovereignty. Hosting and AI inference stay in France and the European Union, every subprocessor is published by name, purpose and location, a contractual commitment rules out any transfer outside the EU, an Article 28 agreement is signed before employee data is processed, and the publisher states that no customer content trains any model. Few tools in this segment document that as precisely.
The weaknesses are of a different order. Nothing applies outside France, everything is in French, there is no permanent free plan beyond the trial, no public API and no mobile application. The reassurance figures are vendor claims shown without any source or link, and no third-party certification backs the security commitments. The site also contradicts itself on how often its content is refreshed and on whether third-party AI providers are involved at all.
The right expectation is a complement, not a replacement: the vendor says plainly that this is not payroll software and issues no official payslip. On that basis, and with a trial that requires no card, the tool is worth evaluating for any French payroll team that already owns an engine and spends its days hunting for rules. Answers should still be checked against the original text before any decision.
