Overview

What is There There?

There There is a full help desk with AI built into it, made by Spatie, a Belgian software company that also publishes Flare, Mailcoach and Ray. Its stated position is AI-assisted but human-led: the team found existing AI help desks too intrusive, so every AI feature here is optional and the agent keeps the final word.

Work arrives through two kinds of channels, email inboxes and an embeddable support bubble. Each channel has its own address, branding, settings, workflows, team assignments and AI behaviour, so support and sales can share one workspace without blending together. Everything lands in a shared inbox where teams collaborate with internal notes, mentions, roles and per-channel access control.

The centrepiece is the brain, an AI knowledge base fed by your crawled documentation, your articles, your resolved tickets and any connected MCP servers. From it, There There drafts replies in your tone of voice, generates one-line ticket titles, writes personalised greetings, summarises long threads, and answers an agent who joins a conversation late. An assistant called Ask There There is reachable from any page and can search the workspace, look up past tickets and manage tickets on your behalf. Six built-in prompts are editable, so teams can bend the AI to their own style instead of accepting defaults.

Around that sit the operational pieces: no-code workflows triggered when a ticket arrives or changes, AI-written weekly and monthly recaps, a public help centre generated from a brain, customer feedback ratings, merging, tags, saved views, quick replies, custom fields and reporting on volume and resolution times.

The technical surface is unusually wide for a product this young: a documented REST API with an OpenAPI specification, an MCP server that works in both directions, a command-line interface, an agent skill for coding agents, webhooks, and Slack and Discord notifications. An import endpoint backfills history from a previous help desk without firing emails, workflows or notifications. Hosting and storage sit in the EEA, on UpCloud in Finland.

What it does

  • Draft a reply to any ticket using your resolved tickets and your own documentation
  • Pull the main question out of a ticket so you can triage without reading the whole thread
  • Answer visitors directly through a customisable chat bubble on your website
  • Route, tag, assign and auto-reply to tickets with no-code workflow rules
  • Publish a public help centre built from your knowledge base and answered tickets
  • Create tickets and sync data from your own applications through the REST API
  • Let an external AI assistant read and act on your help desk through MCP

When to use There There / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if There There is the right fit.

When to use There There

  • Small and mid-sized support teams bringing scattered inboxes into a single shared workspace
  • Software companies that want to drive a help desk from an API, a CLI, webhooks or an MCP server
  • Teams that already own documentation and a backlog of solved tickets the AI can actually learn from
  • European organisations that need EU hosting, a signed DPA and a named list of subprocessors
  • Teams leaving Freshdesk, Help Scout, HelpSpot or HubSpot, which all have dedicated migration guides

When not to use There There

  • Contact centres that need phone, SMS, WhatsApp or social channels, since only email and chat exist
  • Teams wanting a mobile app, as no iOS or Android application is offered
  • Buyers who require published security certifications such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001
  • Solo users hoping the free plan is enough, as it caps you at one seat and removes every AI feature
  • Organisations whose procurement demands public terms of service, which this vendor does not publish
Get started

How to use There There

A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.

  1. Start the 14-day trial from the site; no credit card is requested
  2. Create your workspace, which opens on the Standard feature set with a single seat
  3. Connect a first channel: an email inbox, set up through DNS records or email forwarding
  4. Add the support bubble to your website if you also want live chat from visitors
  5. Point There There at your documentation URL so the brain can crawl and index it
  6. Invite teammates and assign owner, admin or member roles, then group them into teams
  7. Let the AI run: features are active as soon as your plan includes them, with no separate setup
  8. Optionally edit any of the six built-in prompts from workspace settings to match your style
  9. Build workflows to route, tag, assign and auto-reply without writing code
  10. Backfill your history through the import endpoint, or follow the guide for your previous help desk

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how There There handles your data.

GDPR overview

GDPR compliance is claimed explicitly and backed by concrete artefacts rather than a slogan. A pre-signed Data Processing Agreement, framed on Article 28, is published as a downloadable PDF: the customer completes and signs it, then returns it to privacy@there-there.app. It names six subprocessors with their role and country, commits to breach notification within 24 hours, grants the customer an on-site audit right at its own cost, and places disputes under Belgian law before the courts of Antwerp. Six data subject rights are listed: access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction and portability. No Data Protection Officer is appointed, which the DPA states openly; privacy questions go to the same address. No Article 27 representative is needed, the publisher being established in Belgium. The privacy policy was last updated on 28 August 2026.

Who owns the data?

Customers keep ownership of the personal data they push through the platform. Under the Data Processing Agreement the customer is the data controller and There There, operated by Spatie bv, is only the processor, acting exclusively on the customer's instructions. The privacy policy states that personal information is never sold, traded or rented, and that sharing is limited to four cases: with your consent, with service providers, to meet legal obligations, and to protect rights or safety. The vendor reserves one narrow reuse: anonymised data may be shared with third parties, and only for public-interest archiving, scientific or historical research, or statistics. When the contract ends, data is returned or erased on request.

Reuse rights

Within their own workspace, customers reuse their material freely and without asking permission: resolved tickets, imported documentation and crawled help pages feed the brain that drafts replies, answers agent questions and powers the public chat widget. Customers can publish that same knowledge as a public help centre, export and create tickets through the REST API, and pipe everything into their own systems via the CLI, webhooks or an MCP server. On the vendor's side, use is bounded by the DPA: processing only on the customer's instructions and only for the purposes listed in its annex. The vendor does not state whether customer content is used to train the underlying AI models, which is the one reuse question the documents leave open.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
Data is kept for as long as your account is active or as long as needed to provide the service, and longer where legal obligations, dispute resolution or enforcement of agreements require it. The Data Processing Agreement adds that personal data is not retained beyond what the assignment requires, after which it is permanently deleted or the media returned. Database backups are kept for a limited period before permanent deletion, and an erasure request does not oblige the vendor to purge every backup. When the contract ends, data is returned or erased on request, subprocessors included. Confidentiality survives ten years, and indefinitely for personal data. No specific retention period is published in figures.

Hosting summary

Hosting, database and object storage take place within the European Economic Area, on UpCloud in Finland. The Data Processing Agreement names all six subprocessors with their role and country: UpCloud in Finland for hosting, Facade BV (Flare) in Belgium for error tracking, and four US-based providers, namely Postmark for inbound and outbound email, OpenAI for AI features, Stripe for payments and Fathom for marketing-site analytics. The vendor states that it is in the process of enabling OpenAI's EU region. Where data is processed outside the EEA, Standard Contractual Clauses and additional safeguards are applied. The DPA forbids processing outside the EEA by other parties without the customer's prior written consent, signing the agreement being the consent to the listed subprocessors. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Note that the website's own IP address resolves to Frankfurt, Germany, on UpCloud's network, which concerns the site rather than the declared location of personal data storage.

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting There There.

  • No terms of service are published, so the contractual relationship is undocumented before you sign up
  • Pricing appears in three incompatible forms on the same site, in USD and EUR; verify the real amount before paying
  • Plan names and channel quotas differ between the pricing page and the documentation, making comparison unreliable
  • Nothing documents how to exclude your content from AI model training, and the vendor states no position on it
  • Despite the EU hosting message, US subprocessors handle AI, transactional email, payments and analytics
  • Leaning on AI drafts can erode an agent's own writing judgement, and a fluent wrong answer is harder to catch than an awkward one
  • The AI answers from your own documentation, so stale or incorrect internal pages will be repeated confidently to customers
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Low to moderate. Creating a workspace, inviting the team and building workflows require no code, and the AI needs no separate configuration: features switch on as soon as the plan includes them. The one genuinely technical step is connecting an email channel, which means either DNS records or email forwarding, and adding the support bubble means pasting a widget onto your site. Beyond that, importing historical tickets and using the REST API, MCP server, CLI or agent skill assume a developer, but none of these are required to run the product day to day.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What makes There There different from other AI help desks?
Its stated principle is AI-assisted but human-led. The team built it because they found the AI in other help desks too intrusive, so every AI feature is optional and designed to assist the agent rather than replace them. You can let it answer customers directly, but you stay in control.
Where is my data stored?
Hosting, database and object storage sit within the European Economic Area, on UpCloud in Finland. A few subprocessors supporting ancillary functions are US-based, including AI features, transactional email, payments and website analytics. Where data is processed outside the EEA, Standard Contractual Clauses and additional safeguards are applied.
How much does There There cost?
There is a permanent free plan with one user and two channels but no AI. The per-user plan is 59.00 USD per user per month, and the flat plan is 349.00 USD per month billed annually or 399.00 USD monthly. Note that the site's own FAQ quotes the per-user plan at 49 EUR instead, so confirm the figure before subscribing.
Is there a free trial, and do I need a credit card?
Yes. Every signup opens a 14-day trial with the Standard feature set, a single seat and all AI features included, whichever plan you picked. No credit card is required. You can switch to the flat plan or drop to the free plan at any time before the trial ends.
Do AI features cost extra?
No. The chat assistant, automatic summaries, automatic titles and the weekly and monthly recaps are included in every paid plan at no extra cost, with no usage caps or add-ons announced by the vendor.
Which channels does There There support?
Two kinds: email inboxes and an embeddable support bubble on your website. Each channel has its own address, settings, workflows, team assignments and AI behaviour. There is no telephony, SMS, WhatsApp or social media channel.
Can I connect my own tools?
Yes. There There exposes a documented REST API with an OpenAPI specification, an MCP server, a command-line interface, an agent skill for coding agents, webhooks, and Slack and Discord notifications. MCP works both ways: pulling context from external systems into a ticket, and letting an assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT act on your help desk.
Can I migrate from my current help desk?
Partly. Dedicated guides exist for Freshdesk, Help Scout, HelpSpot and HubSpot, and an import endpoint backfills tickets with their original timestamps without firing emails or workflows. The vendor describes automatic import tools as still under construction and offers manual help in the meantime.
Is a Data Processing Agreement available?
Yes. The DPA comes pre-signed by Spatie bv and can be downloaded directly. You fill in your company details, sign it and return the signed copy to privacy@there-there.app. It names the six subprocessors and commits to breach notification within 24 hours.
Is there a mobile app?
No iOS or Android application is offered. There There is a web product, complemented by its API, CLI and MCP server for anyone wanting to work outside the browser.
Conclusion

Should you pick There There?

There There is a coherent product that knows exactly what it refuses to be. The AI-assisted, human-led line is not marketing varnish: AI features stay optional, the six system prompts are editable, and nothing pushes you toward letting a bot answer unsupervised. For a team that already has documentation and a history of solved tickets, that material becomes genuinely useful rather than decorative.

Its strongest argument is data governance, an area where most competitors stay vague. Hosting sits in the EEA on UpCloud in Finland, the six subprocessors are named with role and country, and the Data Processing Agreement is pre-signed and downloadable without a sales call. Including every AI feature in each paid plan, with no surcharge or usage cap, is equally unusual. The technical surface is wider than the product's age suggests: REST API, OpenAPI specification, MCP server, CLI, agent skill and webhooks.

The reservations are real. No terms of service are published anywhere on the site, which is a genuine gap for procurement. Pricing contradicts itself in three places and in two currencies, and plan names and channel quotas do not match between the pricing page and the documentation, so the exact commitment needs confirming in writing. Channels are limited to email and chat, there is no mobile app, no security certification is published, and nothing documents how to keep your content out of model training. The product is also very young, its domain having been registered in December 2025.

It suits small and mid-sized support teams, particularly European ones and those in software, who value EU hosting and an API-first design over channel breadth. Teams needing telephony, social channels or audited certifications should look elsewhere. Confirm the price and the contractual terms before committing.
