What is Quantistry?

QuantistryLab is a cloud platform for chemical simulation and materials design, published by Quantistry GmbH in Berlin. The company positions it as a Materials Intelligence Platform — a category it claims to have created — and describes it as the end-to-end system that “replaces slow, physical trial-and-error with fast, predictive, and reliable digital R&D”.

The journey is presented in three stages. DEFINE: you state the target properties and constraints, or simply a high-level goal such as improving thermal stability. Inside the application sit projects and organizations, a compound library and PubChem access, force fields, systems and tasks, reusable workflow templates and run tracking, agent-assisted compound search, a conversational assistant and personal API access tokens. The sectors addressed on the site are batteries, energy, public sector, optics, aerospace, mining, automotive, optoelectronics, semiconductors and construction materials.

The company was founded in 2019 as Quantum on Demand, ran its first enterprise POC in 2020, rebranded to Quantistry in 2021, launched QuantistryLab in 2023 and co-filed its first five patents with a customer in 2025. Public partnerships are a 24-month joint biocatalysis R&D project with Airbus and a memorandum of understanding with IQM Quantum Computers; the four customer case studies use pseudonyms, the publisher stating itself that names were changed and results are often confidential.

A free plan exists: clause 9.1 of the QuantistryLab terms states that the Free Plan — marketed as the Community Edition or Academia Edition — is provided at no charge. The terms describe the mechanism without ever quoting a figure. Access is sold under an annual license model (clause 2.1). GDPR overview

GDPR is named explicitly. Clause 13.1 of the QuantistryLab terms requires both parties to comply with data-protection law, “including but not limited to the EU General Data Protection Regulation”, and clause 13.2 commits Quantistry to a written data processing agreement where the law requires one, as processor to the customer's controller. The publisher is established in Berlin, under German law and Berlin jurisdiction, so no Article 27 representative applies. The website privacy policy cites Art. 6(1)(a), (b), (c) and (f) and § 25(1) TDDDG for cookies, lists the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection plus complaint to a supervisory authority, and covers US transfers with standard contractual clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. SSL/TLS encryption is claimed. No DPO is named, no minimum age is set, and the policy addresses the marketing site only, not the platform.

Who owns the data?

Clause 5.1 of the QuantistryLab terms (v2.0, 08/01/2025) leaves all rights in uploaded and generated content — designs, analyses, simulations, models, estimations and data — with the customer, and clause 5.5 gives the user exclusive intellectual property over everything produced under a Paid Plan. The Free Plan differs: clause 5.2 makes Community Content accessible to other users and to visitors, and grants Quantistry and third parties an unlimited, sublicensable, transferable, royalty-free and irrevocable right to use it. The same document then contradicts itself: clause 2.3 declares all Free Plan data “the exclusive property of Quantistry”. Both clauses sit in version 2.0.

Reuse rights

On a Paid Plan the customer keeps the results and may reuse them without asking anyone. Quantistry's own use of that Professional Content is bounded by clause 5.3 to performing the contract, improving and optimizing the service, bug fixing, testing, rectifying defects and conducting statistical analyses, and the content is not exposed to other users unless the customer shares it. On the Free Plan the balance reverses: clause 5.2 grants an unlimited, irrevocable and sublicensable right covering reproduction, publication, distribution, modification and derivative works, extended to other users and to site visitors. Nothing in the terms or the privacy policy states whether customer data trains AI models — the word never appears, in either direction — and no opt-out is documented. Clause 13.2 makes Quantistry a processor and the customer a controller for personal data; clause 14.4 lets Quantistry use feedback and suggestions freely and perpetually; clause 14.3 has the customer consent in advance to their trade name and logo being used in Quantistry's marketing.

Retention rules differ by plan. Free Plan content: Quantistry may delete any Community Content left unaccessed and unused for more than six months (clause 5.2). Quantistry publishes nothing about where QuantistryLab data lives. No country, no region and no provider is named for the platform, which is why the hosting fields of this record are empty. What the privacy policy documents concerns the marketing website and its visitors only: the site runs on Webflow, Inc. (San Francisco, USA), delivery goes through Cloudflare, Inc. (San Francisco, USA) and Bunny.net / BunnyWay d.o.o. (Ljubljana, Slovenia, with IP addresses anonymized), the CRM is HubSpot, Inc.
