What is Eatch?

Eatch is a Dutch robotics company whose product is the Eatch Robotic Kitchen Platform, a modular automated kitchen sold together with the Eatch Operating Software. It targets central production kitchens, meaning the sites that cook for offices, hospitals, schools, travel operators, retail chains and fast casual outlets, rather than restaurants or households.

The design principle is unusual for mass catering. Instead of cooking in large batches, the machine prepares each meal in its own pot, monitored by more than a hundred sensors. Batch size is therefore one, which is what makes individual customisation possible at mass-production cost. Eatch calls its robot the Gourmatic: it weighs ingredients to the gram, doses sauces, adds spices at the right moment, serves the portions and cleans itself between preparations.

Six modules define a configuration: output volume, packaging type, preservation by hot holding, blast chilling or freezing, automation level, additional dispensers and a packaging line. Eatch states that 70 to 95 percent of the labour for a given dish can be automated, and that the fully electric induction kitchen cuts labour costs by up to 90 percent, ingredient costs by up to 20 percent, food waste by up to 70 percent and energy use by half, while retaining 50 percent more vitamin C.

The software is presented as the real differentiator, and the company is explicit that this is not hardware alone. The operating software handles real-time inventory, one-click supplier ordering, ingredient traceability and a connection to the customer's accounting system. A second tool, Meal Creator, is used to design and adjust recipes, swap ingredients by season or client need, watch the cost price move in real time and read the nutritional balance of every meal designed.

Two commercial routes exist. Either Eatch operates the kitchen and supplies tailor-made white-label meals, or the customer buys and runs the kitchen with support on quality processes, site layout and recipe engineering. The company reports more than 200,000 meals already produced, for customers it names as ISS and Sodexo. Notably, Eatch never describes any of this as artificial intelligence: it speaks of robotics, sensors and smart, data-driven software.

GDPR overview

Eatch claims GDPR compliance in plain words: its main privacy policy states that the company adheres to European privacy law, the General Data Protection Regulation. Being established in the Netherlands, it needs no Article 27 representative and names none. No data protection officer is appointed, and rights requests go to a named mailbox given in the webshop policy. That policy lists access, rectification, erasure, portability, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent and non-discrimination, honours the Global Privacy Control signal, and points complainants to their national authority through the EDPB list. Transfers outside Europe rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. Two unaligned policies coexist: a bespoke English one last revised on 7 November 2022, and a Dutch Shopify template updated on 15 October 2025. No DPA, trust page or certification is published.

Who owns the data?

Both published policies treat Eatch B.V. as the party accountable for personal data. The main policy states that Eatch remains responsible even when data is shared with delivery, payment or technical partners, and the webshop policy declares Eatch the controller under applicable data protection law. An individual may email to close their account, after which the data is deleted or anonymised as soon as possible, at Eatch and at its partners. Nothing published addresses ownership of a business customer's operational data, meaning the recipes, production volumes and cost prices entered into the Meal Creator. That point is left to be settled in the contract.

Reuse rights

The published policies describe what Eatch does with personal data rather than what a user may reuse. Payment details, including the IBAN, are processed to take orders and are also held by the payment provider. Email addresses verify accounts and carry login details, while name, address and phone number are passed to delivery partners for the sole purpose of delivering meals. Order history is kept for administration and mailed back to the customer. Technical data such as IP address, operating system and browser or handset supports troubleshooting, product improvement and abuse prevention. Cookies, IP and MAC addresses are used for advertising only where consent has been given, and marketing email only after an explicit sign-up that can be withdrawn at any time. Analytics are processed anonymously. Eatch invokes consent for marketing and legitimate interest elsewhere, with a stated right to object, and notes it may be legally required to disclose data to the Ministry of Justice or other public authorities. No clause grants a user any right to reuse Eatch's own content or data.

Retention summary
Eatch publishes deletion on request rather than fixed retention periods. A user who emails to close their account has their data deleted or anonymised as soon as possible, both at Eatch and at its partners. Two exceptions are stated. Some records carry a legally required minimum retention, with financial data such as payments given as the example, and are removed only once that period expires. For technical reasons, other data may survive up to six months in backups and log files. Eatch does not state where user data is hosted. Its main privacy policy says only that the software runs in the cloud on servers managed by other companies, then names those companies: Google Cloud Services for servers, databases, logging and network administration, Firebase Analytics for usage measurement, Firebase for push notifications, authentication and stability monitoring, SendGrid for transactional email and Mailchimp for marketing email. For the last two, Eatch warns that sending may take place on servers outside the EU. Buckaroo handles payments and TringTring delivers meals in Amsterdam. The webshop policy adds that transfers outside Europe rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, or the UK equivalent, unless the destination country benefits from an adequacy decision. The downstream consumer meal shop, with its own prices and deliveries across the Netherlands, shows the same chain running end to end.

What the site does not do is let a buyer qualify the decision alone. There is no price, no order of magnitude, no case study and no independent measurement: every efficiency figure, from 90 percent less labour to 70 percent less waste and half the energy, is Eatch's own claim.
