Leeway
Leeway is a Berlin-built stock research platform that scores over 25,000 equities on three independent AI ratings — business quality, fundamental fit and valuation timing — and serves the same market data through a REST API and an MCP server.
What is Leeway?
Leeway is a stock research platform published by PWP Leeway UG (haftungsbeschränkt) in Berlin, positioned as the AI analyst for every stock. Its founding argument is a criticism of the alternatives: chat models summarise text, human analysts cover few names and carry bias. Leeway therefore splits the question into three ratings computed independently, then combines them in equal thirds so that no single method dominates.
The Business-Rating is an LLM analysis of business-model quality. Twelve sub-dimensions — organic scaling, competition, moat, pricing power, customer resilience, urgency of need, capital efficiency, management, regulatory, technological and societal exposure, and ten-year constants — are each scored from −5 to +5 and condensed into a value between −100 and +100. An independent fact-check against public sources rewrites the text before it is stored. The Market-Fit-Rating is a machine-learning score over eighteen fundamental indicators grouped into profitability, balance sheet strength and price-to-value ratios, smoothed over several years, forecast forward and adapted to whichever regime, value or growth, the market is in. The Cycle-Rating measures a stock against its own valuation history, never against an index or its peers, on a 0–100 scale. The Leeway-Score aggregates all three, and published thresholds tell readers how to read it: 50 and above is treated as attractive, below zero as unattractive.
Around those scores sit Rank & Screen for filtering, a detailed single-stock view with factor charts, multi-stock comparison with automatic peer groups, a portfolio check with diversification warnings, and a market analysis page combining a fear index and a smart-money indicator into daily and weekly traffic-light signals. Email briefings go out weekly or daily depending on plan.
The same foundation is sold separately to developers as a REST market-data API covering 50 or more exchanges, 100,000+ tickers, up to a century of price history and forty years of fundamentals, split into Data, Forecast and Analytics packages. An official MCP server exposes 32 tools to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other clients, and an Office add-in synchronises data between Excel and Word.
What it does
- Filter 25,000+ listed companies by country, sector and market capitalisation, then rank them by the aggregated Leeway-Score
- Read an LLM-written assessment of a company's business model, scored across twelve sub-dimensions and put through an automatic fact-check
- Place a stock's current valuation against its own history using P/E, P/B, P/S, price-to-cash-flow, debt and dividend yield
- Monitor a portfolio through watchlists and receive diversification and risk warnings
- Follow daily short-term and weekly long-term market signals built on sentiment and options order flow
- Compare several stocks side by side with automatically suggested peer groups
- Pull quotes, fundamentals, dividends and forecasts over a REST API, or expose them to an AI assistant through the MCP server
When to use Leeway / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if Leeway is the right fit.
When to use Leeway
- Private investors who want to narrow a universe of 25,000+ listed companies down to a workable shortlist in minutes instead of weeks
- Portfolio managers and equity analysts looking for a systematic second opinion that does not inherit their own biases
- Buy-and-hold investors who care about business-model quality — moats, pricing power, capital allocation — rather than short-term trade signals
- Developers and fintech teams that need European-first fundamentals, quotes and forecasts over a documented REST API with a 100,000 requests/day allowance
- Anyone building research agents on Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor who wants market data available as MCP tools rather than copy-paste
When not to use Leeway
- Investors expecting personalised advice: the imprint states plainly that Leeway's output is neither investment advice nor a buy, hold or sell recommendation
- Businesses planning to resell or redistribute the data — commercial exploitation is excluded at published prices and requires a separate licence
- Traders in crypto or foreign exchange: those asset classes exist only in the data API, never in the analysis application
- Mobile-first users, since there is no iOS or Android app and everything runs in a browser
- English-only readers who need a fully localised product, as the FAQ and parts of the help centre still answer in German under English headings
How to use Leeway
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Create a free account by email and confirm it through the activation link — no credit card is requested for the Free tier
- Open Rank & Screen and set one or two filters at a time: country or continent, sector or industry, market capitalisation
- Sort the result by Leeway-Score for an overall view, or by Market-Fit-Rating to weight current fundamentals more heavily
- Open an individual stock and read the factor detail, the valuation charts and the Cycle-Rating that sits behind the headline number
- Use the suggested peer group to add comparable companies, keeping four to six stocks side by side for readability
- Add the survivors to a watchlist and run the portfolio check for concentration and risk warnings
- Consult the market analysis page for the weekly regime signal before deciding overall equity exposure, and the daily signal for tactical entries
- Start a 14-day trial on Investor or Trader if the free DAX-40 scope proves too narrow
- For programmatic access, collect the API token from the account area and call the REST endpoints in JSON, either with a query parameter or a Bearer header
- For AI assistants, add the MCP endpoint as a custom connector — Claude and ChatGPT negotiate OAuth automatically, while Cursor and VS Code need a Bearer header in their configuration
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Unusually transparent methodology: the twelve Business-Rating dimensions, the eighteen Market-Fit indicators, the Cycle multiples and the reading thresholds are all published
- The LLM assessment passes an independent fact-check against public sources before it is stored, rather than being served raw
- Three separately computed ratings weighted equally, instead of one opaque composite score
- A permanent free tier with no credit card, plus a 14-day trial on both paid plans and monthly cancellation without minimum term
- Genuine breadth: 25,000+ analysed equities, 100,000+ tickers in the data layer and up to a hundred years of price history
- The same data reaches users three ways — web application, REST API and an official MCP server with OAuth for Claude and ChatGPT
- German publisher under direct GDPR jurisdiction, payments handled by Stripe, and a 98.5% annual availability commitment written into the terms
Cons
- German-first by design: English URLs exist, but the FAQ and detailed help pages still answer in German, and the contract language and governing law are German
- No mobile application at all — browser access only
- No security certification is claimed, no data processing agreement is offered to customers and no hosting country is disclosed
- The legal texts are dated: the privacy policy still relies on the Privacy Shield, void since 2020, and the terms cite pre-GDPR statutes
- The site contradicts itself on small points — the FAQ promises a 14-day trial on 'all subscriptions' although Free is permanently free, and quotes three comparable stocks on Free where the pricing table says two
- Structured data on the home page declares a 32-country service area while the organisation block on the same page says 'Worldwide', so the real availability perimeter is unclear
- Live quotes are delayed by 15 to 20 minutes, short-term signals are delayed on Free and Investor, and commercial reuse of the data requires a quote
Pricing & Plans
A permanent free plan is available at €0.00 per month, without a credit card, covering DAX-40 stocks and all ratings. The cheapest paid entry point is the Investor plan, advertised from €22.50 per month on annual billing and €24.95 per month when paid monthly, after a 14-day free trial. The Trader plan starts at €45.00 per month annually and €49.95 per month monthly. Data access is priced separately: the Data API from €69.95 per month, the Forecast API and the Analytics API from €40.83 per month each, falling to €24.17 per month when taken as an add-on to the Data API. All amounts are quoted in euros and include statutory German VAT.

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how Leeway handles your data.
GDPR overview
Implementation is genuine but the wording is ageing. The publisher is established in Germany, so the GDPR applies directly and no Article 27 representative is required or named. The privacy policy is built on the regulation itself — Article 4 definitions, Article 6 legal bases, Article 32 security measures — and sets out the full catalogue of data subject rights: access, rectification, erasure and restriction, portability, complaint to a supervisory authority, withdrawal of consent and objection, profiling included. No data protection officer is appointed; every request goes to kontakt@leeway.tech. Two dated passages deserve attention: the terms still cite TMG, BDSG and TDDSG, all pre-GDPR statutes, and third-country transfers are justified by the Privacy Shield, invalidated in July 2020. No SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification is claimed and no customer-facing DPA is offered.
Who owns the data?
The terms grant access, never ownership. Neither source nor object code is handed to the subscriber, who receives only the right to reach the hosted software over the internet, and commercial exploitation of Leeway's data and content is prohibited at published prices. Account content — name, email address, password, watchlists — is processed by PWP Leeway UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Daberkowstraße 12, Berlin, represented by Lars Wißler, acting as controller. When a contract ends, access to the account and profile is withdrawn, Leeway declines responsibility for backups and reserves the right to erase everything stored during the term, so subscribers are told to export what matters to them before the expiry date.
Reuse rights
Not freely, and the terms say so in one line: commercial exploitation of the data and content is excluded under the published pricing. Redistributing ratings, embedding key figures in a commercial product or reselling API responses therefore requires a separate licence, requested by email from kontakt@leeway.tech. Within that boundary, subscribers may use scores, comparisons and API payloads for their own research and investment decisions; API customers authenticate with a personal token that they are contractually required to keep secret, and Leeway may throttle or block an IP address whose request frequency threatens platform stability. Personal data is a separate matter: the GDPR right to portability is expressly granted, so users can obtain their own account data in a structured, machine-readable format or have it transferred to another controller.

Hosting summary
Leeway discloses very little. The privacy policy refers throughout to 'our hosting provider' without ever naming it and without stating a country, listing only the services bought from it: infrastructure and platform, compute, storage, databases, email dispatch, security and technical maintenance. An Article 28 GDPR processing agreement is said to be in place with that provider — an internal arrangement, not a DPA offered to customers. Server log files are kept for a maximum of seven days. Transfers outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland are contemplated and justified in the text by the Privacy Shield or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, the first of which has been void since July 2020. Google Analytics runs with IP anonymisation, truncating addresses inside the EU or EEA and sending a full address to a United States server only exceptionally, while Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising store their data on United States servers. No hosting jurisdiction for customer data is declared anywhere on the site.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Leeway.
- Scores invite over-confidence. Leeway states that its signals are probabilistic, that the Business-Rating is not a buy or sell signal and that no rating should be read in isolation — advice easy to forget once a single number sits at the top of the page
- Outsourcing judgement erodes it. A ranked list is a shortcut, and readers who stop verifying the underlying reports lose the very analytical habit the platform is supposed to support
- Newly listed companies have too little history for the Cycle-Rating to mean much, a limit the site acknowledges but which is easy to overlook mid-screening
- No hosting country, no customer DPA and no security certification are disclosed, so anyone with a formal vendor-assessment process will have to ask before signing
- Nothing on the site addresses whether customer data feed AI model training, and no opt-out is documented — an unanswered question rather than a stated 'no'
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least one calendar day before expiry, an unusually short window
- The published pricing excludes commercial exploitation of the data, so building a client-facing product on Leeway ratings without a separate licence is a contractual risk
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Very low for the web application: an email registration with an activation link, no installation, no credit card on the free tier, and the site claims a first usable result within sixty seconds through Rank & Screen. Moderate for the data layer: collect the API token from the account area, then call REST endpoints in JSON with either a query parameter or a Bearer header, following a published five-step quickstart. Connecting an AI assistant means adding one URL as a custom connector, with OAuth handled automatically on Claude and ChatGPT. Nothing has to be self-hosted.

Should you pick Leeway?
Leeway is one of the more legible AI tools in equity research, and legibility is precisely its argument. Rather than serving a single opaque score, it separates business quality, current fundamentals and valuation timing into three ratings computed by different methods, then weights them equally and publishes how each one is built — twelve business dimensions, eighteen fundamental indicators, a named set of valuation multiples, and the thresholds at which a number becomes interesting. The fact-check applied to the LLM text before it is stored is a detail worth noticing: it is the sort of guardrail most AI research products describe vaguely and few describe at all.
The product has two audiences and serves both from the same foundation. Investors get a screening and comparison workflow; developers get a documented REST API, an OpenAPI reference and an official MCP server that plugs the same data into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor. The European bias — XETRA, Frankfurt, Euronext — is a real differentiator in a market where most data providers start from the United States.
The reservations are as concrete as the strengths. This is a German-first product from a small Berlin company: the English version is real but incomplete, the contract is German and the legal texts have not aged well, still resting on a data-transfer framework struck down in 2020. There is no security certification, no customer DPA, no disclosed hosting location and no mobile app, and the site contradicts itself on small details a careful reader will spot. None of that is disqualifying at this price, and a permanent free tier plus a 14-day trial makes the question cheap to settle for yourself. Just take the publisher at its word: this is research material, not investment advice.
