What is Face Studio?
Face Studio is a web application that produces photorealistic portraits of people who do not exist. Instead of a text prompt it takes demographic settings: in BASIC mode a gender, an age band running from teens to sixties, and one of seven ethnic phenotypes — European, African, West Asian, South Asian, East Asian, Southeast Asian and Latin American. Press GENERATE and a face appears in seconds. The publisher, the bluereach.ai team, insists the pipeline is live rather than pre-rendered: nothing is drawn from a stock of ready-made images, so every request produces a fresh portrait made to order.
ADVANCED mode adds around ten further controls — seed, skin tone, hair length, facial hair, eyewear, lighting style, mood, viewing angle and zoom level. The seed is the notable one: lock it and the same face comes back run after run, which turns a random generator into something you can iterate with. Output is JPEG or WebP at any resolution from 128 to 1024 pixels.
Two other routes sit beside the interface. A batch tool lets non-programmers define one group per set of criteria, submit a job and collect the results later as a ZIP archive. A REST API hosted on facestud.io exposes a single GET endpoint; authentication uses a token header, verified accounts may hold up to five keys, and every parameter is optional, so a bare call returns a completely random face. Sample code is published for Python, PHP, C# and Java, and the API is also distributed through RapidAPI.
The selling point is legal as much as technical. Because the faces belong to nobody, the FAQ states there are no release forms, no model licences and no additional clearances to obtain — an argument aimed at studios, researchers and businesses that would otherwise pay for stock photography or a shoot. The publisher also claims a deliberate aesthetic: faces resembling ordinary people rather than retouched models.
Two caveats belong in the same breath. Images carry an invisible watermark holding the model version, seed and timestamp, removable only through Privacy Mode on a paid plan. And quality is explicitly not guaranteed: the FAQ acknowledges artefacts, occasional mismatches with the requested criteria, and a viewing-angle parameter its own documentation calls unstable.

GDPR overview
There is no GDPR implementation to report. Across every page collected — privacy policy, terms of use, FAQ and product pages — the words GDPR, data protection regulation and data subject rights never appear once. No legal basis is stated, no data subject request procedure is described, no Article 27 EU representative is named, no Data Processing Agreement is published or offered on request, and no subprocessor list exists. The privacy policy does name two third parties that handle user data, Google LLC for Analytics and reCAPTCHA and Lemon Squeezy for payments and affiliate tracking, but it frames them as service providers rather than as processors under a European regime. The only privacy contact is help@facestudio.app, and the policy has not been updated since 15 October 2023. European organisations should treat compliance as undocumented rather than assumed.
Who owns the data?
The terms make the user responsible for whatever they generate, and the generated images carry no specific licence: Face Studio claims no trademark, asks for no release form and adds no restriction beyond its own terms of use, so the pictures are the user's to exploit. In exchange, the publisher reserves the right to use any content generated on the platform for its own research and development. Account data stays minimal — an email address is optional and collected only for verification and account notifications — and payment details never reach Face Studio's servers, since Lemon Squeezy collects and holds them.
Reuse rights
Yes. The FAQ states that generated images come with no specific licence and no restriction beyond the terms of use, and the site presents Face Studio as free for personal and commercial use alike. Users therefore do not need to ask permission, obtain a release form or clear an additional licence before publishing, selling or embedding a generated face; attribution is welcomed but never required. Two limits remain. Content that is offensive, obscene or unlawful is forbidden, and outputs — including results obtained from the API — may not be used to create a duplicate product or a similar service without prior written approval. Note also that images produced on the free plan carry an invisible watermark holding the model version, seed value and generation timestamp.

Face Studio does not say where user data lives. Neither the privacy policy, the terms of use nor the FAQ names a hosting country, a region or a data centre provider, and no certification such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001 is claimed anywhere on the site. What can be established is technical rather than declared: the domain resolves to an address operated by Amazon Web Services in Ashburn, United States, and the domain itself is registered with the American registrar Namecheap. That is an infrastructure observation made during this review, not a commitment by the publisher, and it may change without notice. Payment data is the one clearly delimited case: Lemon Squeezy collects and processes it on its own systems, and the privacy policy states that Face Studio neither stores nor retains it.
