Overview

What is Dashtera?

Dashtera is a browser-based platform for data visualization, dashboarding, reporting and data observability, published by LightningChart Ltd, a Finnish company based in Kuopio. It is presented as a division of LightningChart and runs on the same GPU-accelerated WebGL rendering engine the company built for its charting products, which is why it claims to handle millions of data points per chart and millisecond-level refresh without resorting to downsampling.

The promise is zero coding. You create a dashboard in the editor, attach data, and configure charts through dialogs rather than scripts. Data arrives either as files, in CSV, JSON, XML, XLS/XLSX or Parquet, or through connectors to PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MS SQL, MongoDB, Apache Cassandra, Redis, Snowflake, Databricks, Trino and InfluxDB, with WebSockets carrying live streams.

The chart library is unusually wide for a dashboard tool. Alongside standard business visuals it covers XY, bar, polar and statistical charts, maps, and ten families of 3D visuals including point clouds, mesh models, surfaces and scrolling surfaces. The Finance & Trading tier adds a technical analysis chart with more than 100 indicators and over 30 drawing tools.

Its AI capability is a supervised machine learning module. Eight algorithms are offered: Linear Regression, Random Forest, LightGBM and XGBoost for regression, with Logistic Regression and the same three families for classification. You pick a dataset from Data Sources, choose a target variable and feature columns, then either let Auto Train select a model or choose one yourself. Analyze returns accuracy, precision, recall, F1 and train/test scores; up to five models can be stored and reused by the prediction engine, whose output flows back into Data Sources and exports to Excel, CSV or JSON.

Analysis tools include drill-down and drill-through between charts, filtering, grouping, aggregation, reusable functions and a KPI panel. Finished dashboards can be shared live in Viewer mode, published publicly, scheduled as PDF reports or exported as PNG. The platform ships in four tiers plus paid add-ons, and deploys as cloud, hosted private system, on-premises installation, OEM white-label integration or licensed source code.

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how Dashtera handles your data.

GDPR overview

Implementation is concrete and documented. LightningChart Ltd is a Finnish controller subject to Finnish law and the GDPR; the privacy policy took effect on 14 April 2025 and was last revised on 18 March 2026. No Data Protection Officer is appointed, the company stating that the Article 37 thresholds are not met, and data protection queries go to support@dashtera.com. Section 14.10 of the terms carries full processor clauses: documented instructions, confidentiality, security measures, assistance with Chapter III requests and Articles 32 to 36, breach notification to the customer within 48 hours, and an audit right capped at one audit per year. Nine sub-processors are published with purpose, data and location. Transfers outside the EEA rely on the June 2021 Standard Contractual Clauses, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and adequacy decisions. The Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman is named as supervisory authority.

Who owns the data?

You keep what you upload. Both the privacy policy and the terms state that you retain all rights, title and ownership in the data you import into Dashtera, and that LightningChart Ltd receives only the license it needs to process and display that content in order to provide, maintain and improve the service. For account data the Finnish company acts as controller; for the content you import it acts as a processor working on your documented instructions. It commits never to sell or share personal data in the CPRA sense. If you upload personal data about third parties, the legal basis for that processing remains yours alone.

Reuse rights

You can reuse your own material freely, without asking. Predictions produced by the machine learning module are written back into Dashtera Data Sources and export to Excel, CSV or JSON. Dashboards export as high-resolution PNG images or as scheduled and on-demand PDF reports, and can be shared live: Viewer mode keeps confidential boards inside the organization, while non-confidential views can be published publicly. GDPR portability also entitles you to receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format. One caveat: data read from a connected external database is held only for the session unless you explicitly import it into Dashtera.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
Retention is set out period by period. Account registration data is kept while the account is active and for around seven years afterwards for legal and accounting reasons, as is payment information under Finnish tax law. Content you import lives as long as the account does and is deleted or anonymized roughly 14 days after closure. Usage and analytics data lasts about 14 months, server logs 90 days at most, and data read from a connected external database only for the session unless you import it. An account left inactive for a year is deleted or anonymized, with email warnings 30 and 3 days ahead. On termination the terms allow 30 days for deletion or return, and up to 90 days for backups to rotate out. Deletion requests go to support@dashtera.com and are answered within a month.

Hosting summary

LightningChart Ltd, at Tehdaskatu 24 B, 70620 Kuopio, Finland, is the controller. The terms state plainly that all Customer Data sits on Microsoft Azure in the EU (West Europe) region. Authentication runs on Keycloak, self-hosted on LightningChart's own infrastructure, and the company says no user data is passed to any third party through it. Nine sub-processors are published with purpose, data category and location: Azure (EU), Google Analytics 4 (EU/US, Data Privacy Framework), Stripe via WooCommerce Payments (US, DPF), WooCommerce/Automattic (US, DPF), Zoho ZeptoMail (EU), Mapbox (US), MapTiler AG (Switzerland/EU), Zoho CRM (EU) and Rewardful, listed as not yet active (US). Transfers outside the EEA rely on the June 2021 Standard Contractual Clauses, Modules 2 and 3, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, adequacy decisions and transfer impact assessments. Stated safeguards include TLS/SSL in transit, encryption at rest for sensitive data, role-based access control, internal and external security audits, and data centers with physical access controls. Breaches are notified to customers within 48 hours and to the Finnish authority within 72.

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Dashtera.

  • Publishing a dashboard publicly exposes business data; Viewer mode separates internal sharing from public publication, but getting that choice right is on you
  • High model scores breed false confidence: the sales example on the site reaches a 97% train/test score, which says nothing about a badly specified model
  • The terms state that beta and experimental features are provided as-is, with no warranty that results or analyses are error-free
  • If you import personal data about other people, you alone carry the legal basis for processing it
  • Data read from a connected external database is kept only for the session unless you import it, so an analysis can quietly lose the context it was built on
  • Accounts left inactive for a year are deleted or anonymized, with the only warnings sent by email 30 days and 3 days beforehand
  • Per-user add-on pricing makes it easy to underestimate the real cost of a team-wide rollout
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Low for cloud use. Sign-up happens in the browser, the Basic plan needs no credit card, and a first dashboard can be built from an uploaded spreadsheet with no code at all. Difficulty rises with the data source: connecting a production database means having credentials and network access, which is an IT or data-team job. The machine learning module is guided, with an Auto Train option, but choosing a target variable and feature columns still assumes some data literacy. On-premises, hosted private, OEM and source-code deployments are enterprise projects that start with a consultation.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free plan?
Yes. The Basic plan is permanently free and needs no credit card, but it is capped at three charts per dashboard, 500 data points, 100 MB of storage and one active data connector.
How much does the cheapest paid plan cost?
Business Intelligence starts at USD 20 per user per month, or USD 200 per user per year, which is 17% off the USD 240 monthly-equivalent price. VAT is added at checkout.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. Dashtera advertises zero coding, and that extends to the machine learning module, where models are trained and run through guided dialogs rather than scripts.
Which data sources can Dashtera connect to?
PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MS SQL, MongoDB, Apache Cassandra, Redis, Snowflake, Databricks, Trino, InfluxDB and WebSockets, plus file imports in CSV, JSON, XML, XLS/XLSX and Parquet.
Does Dashtera have an API?
No public API documentation is published. Custom API connectors appear in the pricing comparison table but are marked coming soon on every tier.
What exactly does the AI do?
It is supervised machine learning, not generative AI: eight algorithms for regression and classification, guided training with accuracy, precision, recall and F1 metrics, a repository holding up to five models, and a prediction engine that writes results back into Data Sources.
Where is my data hosted?
The terms state that all Customer Data sits on Microsoft Azure in the EU (West Europe) region. Authentication runs on Keycloak, self-hosted on LightningChart's own infrastructure.
Is my data used to train models?
No. The privacy policy states that imported content is stored solely to enable the service's functionality and is not used for other purposes such as marketing or profiling.
Can I run Dashtera on my own servers?
Yes. Beyond the cloud offering there are on-premises installations, a hosted private system, OEM white-label integration and licensed source-code access, all quoted on request.
Is there a minimum age?
Yes, 18. The terms require users to be at least eighteen, and the privacy policy states the service is not intended for anyone under 18.
Conclusion

Should you pick Dashtera?

Dashtera is a credible newcomer rather than an unknown one. The product launched commercially in early 2026, but the rendering engine underneath comes from LightningChart, a Finnish company that has been building high-performance charting components for years, and that lineage shows in what the platform does best: pushing very large, very fast datasets onto a screen without downsampling them.

Its natural home is the space between a general business intelligence tool and an engineering-grade real-time monitor. Plans are shaped around three jobs, business intelligence, engineering and science, and finance and trading, and the chart library, particularly in 3D and technical analysis, goes well beyond what most dashboard products attempt.

The machine learning module deserves an honest label. It is classical supervised learning: eight regression and classification algorithms, guided training, five stored models, a prediction engine. That is genuinely useful for forecasting and anomaly work and needs no code, but it is not generative AI, and the AI dashboard assistant that would justify the phrase is still marked coming soon.

Two practical cautions. The advertised price is not the whole price: machine learning, real-time streaming, statistics and map charts are add-ons billed per user per month, so a realistic configuration can cost well above the headline figure. And several building blocks, custom API connectors, playback and the AI assistant, are announced rather than shipped.

Against that, the compliance posture is stronger than the product's age suggests: customer data on Azure in the EU, a published sub-processor table, processor clauses written into the terms, an external security audit made public, and a European publisher bound by the GDPR. For teams that need on-premises, white-label or source-code deployment at this price point, comparable options are few.
