Refont
Refont is a browser-based AI design suite that turns typed text into calligraphy, signatures, handwriting, logos and posters. It returns high-resolution images rather than installable font files, with free daily credits and one-off credit packs.
What is Refont?
Refont is a browser-based suite of AI design tools built around one idea: you type text, and the model draws it. Nothing is installed, and the free tools open without an account — the homepage states plainly that no login is needed.
The suite covers eight families of tools. An AI Calligraphy Generator produces cursive, clerical, brush and modern lettering. An AI Signature Generator turns a name into one of six signature styles. An AI Handwriting Generator converts whole paragraphs into handwriting images, with a choice of writing style and paper. A Calligraphy Logo Maker builds a handwritten brand mark from a name and an optional slogan. An AI Poster Generator composes a complete poster from a style preset, a headline and an uploaded product photo. An Edit Text in Image tool replaces, adds or removes text in existing pictures — watermarks and logos included — through inpainting. Alongside them sit a Fonts Style Generator with more than a hundred presets, from gothic and graffiti to tattoo, wedding and Y2K, and a set of free Unicode text stylers: fancy fonts, Lenny faces and a Malayalam generator.
What Refont returns is an image, not a typeface. Outputs come as JPG or PNG, transparent backgrounds available, in several aspect ratios for social, mobile and print. The FAQ is explicit that downloadable .ttf or .otf files are not offered. The vendor contrasts this with traditional font libraries: rather than mapping characters onto a fixed glyph set, it claims to generate strokes in real time, so no two outputs are identical. The models named are Nano Banana, Imagen 4, Flux Kontext Pro and unspecified in-house models.
Access runs on credits. Fifteen arrive free each day; packs of 100 or 300 are bought outright, with no subscription and no auto-renewal, and purchased credits never expire while the account stays open.
The product is young — the domain was registered in February 2025 and first archived in July 2025 — and its publisher is anonymous. There is no company name, no address, no about page and no contact page; a single Gmail address is the only channel.

A quick filter to help you decide if Refont is the right fit.
When to use Refont
- Social media creators and community managers who need eye-catching lettering for bios, captions and post visuals
- Small shop and boutique owners — bakeries, cafés, art spaces — after a handwritten brand logo without hiring a designer
- Online sellers producing product posters, packaging text and quick edits to existing product photos
- Authors, illustrators and artists working on book covers, poetry layouts and signed artwork
- Teachers and students preparing course materials, handwritten notes, assignments and graduation keepsakes
When not to use Refont
- Anyone who needs an installable font file: Refont exports images, and the site states no .ttf or .otf downloads are offered
- People who need a legally binding signature — the vendor calls its signatures decorative and defers to local regulations
- Teams with compliance obligations: no GDPR mention, no DPA, no subprocessor list and no stated retention period
- Designers who want a layered, hand-editable canvas, since Refont generates whole compositions rather than drag-and-drop layouts
- Buyers who expect a refund if the output disappoints, because every credit purchase is final
How to use Refont
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Open the site and pick the tool that matches the job: calligraphy, signature, handwriting, logo, poster or image text editing
- Type or paste your text — a name for a signature, a brand name for a logo, a full paragraph for handwriting
- For the poster tool, choose a preset from the style wall and add a headline or product description
- Upload an image where the tool needs one: a product photo for a poster, or the picture whose text you want changed
- Pick a style and, where offered, a colour: seven type families and solid, dual-tone or gradient palettes for logos
- Click Generate and let the model compose the result; each run deducts credits, the amount varying by tool and model
- Regenerate or adjust the style if the first output misses — the site expects several passes
- Refine a poster with Edit Image: brush over the area to change, then describe the correction in words
- Download the result in high resolution, with a transparent background where the tool provides one
- Create an account and buy a credit pack once the fifteen daily free credits run out
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Free to try without an account, with fifteen credits refreshed every day
- No subscription: credit packs are one-off purchases, with no auto-renewal and no card kept on file
- Purchased credits never expire while the account remains open
- Low entry price — 4.99 USD for 100 credits, roughly twenty image generations
- Full commercial licence on assets generated with purchased credits
- Eight tool families under one interface, from calligraphy to poster composition and image text editing
- Generations that fail through a system error are automatically re-credited
Cons
- No installable font files: output is always an image, and the homepage still links to a Generate TTF Font page the FAQ contradicts
- The publisher is anonymous — no company name, no address, no about or contact page, only a Gmail address
- All sales are final; no refund is offered whatever the result
- Free credits can be expired or wiped at the vendor's discretion, without notice
- The privacy policy reads as a generic advertising-analytics text, full of Clients, ad networks and mobile SDKs with little bearing on a font generator
- No GDPR mention, no retention period, no erasure right, no DPA and no subprocessor list
- No public API, no third-party integrations and no mobile app — responsive web only

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how Refont handles your data.
GDPR overview
There is none to speak of. The words GDPR and General Data Protection Regulation appear nowhere on the site — not in the privacy policy, not in the terms, not in the page markup. The policy does address European users, but it points to Directive 95/46/EEC and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003, both superseded in 2018. Residents of the European Union or Australia are granted two rights only: access to a copy of their data, possibly for a statutory fee, and correction of inaccurate data. Erasure, portability and objection are not mentioned. No Article 27 representative is named, no data protection officer, no data processing agreement and no subprocessor list. Requests must go to the contact details on the site, which amount to a single Gmail address.
Who owns the data?
Assets generated with purchased credits come with a full commercial licence, and logos and edited images are described as free for personal or commercial use. Responsibility, however, sits entirely with the user: the vendor requires that prompts, uploads and outputs infringe no third-party rights, and forbids commercial use of celebrities or protected characters. Purchased credits stay in the account indefinitely; free credits can be expired or cleared at the vendor's sole discretion without notice. One clause deserves attention — anything posted in the public areas of the site may be collected, used and disclosed by the vendor or by third parties without restriction.
Reuse rights
Yes, within limits. Images produced with purchased credits carry a full commercial licence and need no further permission: they can go into branding, marketing, packaging and store displays. Logos from the Calligraphy Logo Maker and images from the Edit Text in Image tool are both presented as royalty-free for personal or commercial projects, and the homepage extends commercial use of generated lettering “under fair-use terms”. Two caveats temper this. The user alone must ensure that prompts and outputs infringe no third-party trademark or intellectual property, and celebrities or protected characters are off-limits commercially. Separately, section 3 of the terms grants only a personal, non-commercial licence over the site's own materials — a different object from the assets you generate, but worth reading before building a brand on the output.

Hosting summary
The privacy policy commits to one sentence on the subject: data collected will be stored on servers in the United States or in other territories. No hosting provider is named, no European region is offered, and users are given no choice of location. The same section warns that countries outside your own may not offer equivalent protection, without naming any transfer mechanism — no standard contractual clauses, no adequacy decision. On security, the policy claims firewalls and physically secure data facilities, with the usual caveat that no system is perfect. Technically, the domain resolves behind Cloudflare (anycast address 172.67.192.86, AS13335) and assets are served from cdn.refont.ai. That is an observation about the infrastructure rather than a statement by the vendor, and anycast routing says nothing about where data ultimately rests. For a European user, the practical position is that data leaves the EU by default, bound for a jurisdiction the vendor names loosely and a company it does not name at all.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Refont.
- The homepage links to a Generate TTF Font page while its own FAQ says no .ttf or .otf file is offered — check what you are actually buying before paying
- Free credits can be expired or cleared at any time, without notice, so they cannot be stockpiled for a project
- Nothing is refundable: a disappointing generation is still a spent generation, and the vendor says so plainly
- The cost per generation varies with the model, so the advertised ~20 or ~60 generations per pack are estimates, not commitments
- Commercial use of generated lettering is granted on the homepage under fair-use terms, while section 3 of the terms forbids commercial use of the site's materials — read both before building a brand on the output
- You carry all third-party rights liability for prompts, uploads and outputs, and the site expressly forbids commercial use of celebrities or protected characters
- With no identifiable company, no address and no phone number behind the service, recourse in a dispute is limited to an email address, and the governing law clause in the terms is unintelligible
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Minimal. Everything happens in the browser, nothing is installed, and the free tools open without an account. Every generator follows the same three steps: type your text, pick a style, generate and download. The vendor's repeated claim that no design skills are required is borne out by the interfaces. The only real learning curve is phrasing a useful instruction for the image text editor, where the site advises keeping text sparse and describing the target area clearly. Buying credits is a single payment with nothing to configure.

Should you pick Refont?
Refont does one thing well: it turns a line of text into a finished visual, fast, for people who have never opened a design tool. The suite is unusually broad for its price — calligraphy, signatures, handwriting, logos, posters and in-image text editing all sit behind the same three-step flow — and the economics are genuinely friendly. Fifteen free credits a day, no account required to try, one-off packs from 4.99 USD, credits that never expire and no subscription to cancel. Few tools in this space ask so little.
Two things temper the recommendation. The first is functional: Refont exports images, never installable font files, and the homepage still advertises a TTF generator its own FAQ says does not exist. If you came for a typeface you can install, this is the wrong product.
The second is a matter of trust. Nobody knows who runs Refont. There is no company name, no postal address, no about page and no contact page — only a Gmail address in the footer. The privacy policy appears to have been lifted from an advertising-analytics service and speaks of Clients, ad networks and mobile SDKs that have no bearing on a font generator. It never mentions the GDPR, never states a retention period, and grants European users access and correction only. Purchases are non-refundable, and free credits can be wiped without notice.
For a social post, a market-stall logo, a birthday card or a classroom handout, none of that is likely to matter, and the value is real. For anything that has to survive a procurement review, a brand licence check or a data protection questionnaire, it matters a great deal. Try the free credits first, and keep any paid commitment small.
