Melatech
Melatech is a Danish clinical platform for primary care, combining teledermatology workflows, AI documentation and CE-marked imaging hardware. Clinicians capture lesion images, obtain specialist review within 48 hours, and generate structured SOAP notes automatically.
What is Melatech?
Melatech is the platform published by Melatech ApS, a Danish company based in Valby with roughly 22 employees. The site presents a single offering built on three pillars: software, hardware and AI, aimed squarely at primary care. The stated problem is access: more than 400,000 patients a year are referred from GPs to dermatologists in Denmark, half of whom never see a specialist, with waits reaching 42 weeks.
Dermloop is the clinical workflow platform. It covers four named capabilities: structured case documentation, tele-referral, EHR integration, and clinical education under the name Dermloop Learn. A typical case runs through eight steps: the clinician signs in with MitID or straight from the practice EHR, generates a patient handoff QR code, pairs a phone by scanning it, identifies the patient from their health card, captures an overview photograph and then a dermoscopic image, and submits the case. Dermatology teams review asynchronously, with an average response time under 48 hours, and the GP receives a structured assessment and action plan.
Seranote is the documentation tool. It records a consultation, transcribes it in real time with automatic pseudonymisation of patient names and CPR numbers, and produces a structured SOAP note within seconds. It also handles medical dictation and drafts replies to patient messages; referrals, summarisation and phrases are announced as coming. Melatech reports 93.5% recall on medical terminology and, on internal June 2025 data, a 79% reduction in word error rate on medication-heavy content.
The hardware is the Melascope, a 10x polarised dermoscope certified CE and FDA Class I that attaches magnetically to a smartphone, with more than 1,200 units deployed and a colposcope announced. Melatech claims 3,500+ clinicians using its tools, 15,000+ trained through its educational platform, and coverage across five Danish health regions and seven or more US states. The software explicitly does not diagnose: clinical evaluation remains with the qualified professional.
What it does
- Capture guided clinical and dermoscopic images from a phone, with automatic quality feedback
- Send an asynchronous tele-referral to a dermatologist and receive a structured assessment
- Transcribe a consultation in real time and generate a structured SOAP note
- Push documentation and structured data into the electronic health record
- Dictate clinical text and draft replies to written patient enquiries
- Train on more than 20,000 anonymised real skin lesion cases with performance tracking
- Monitor clinical quality through KPI dashboards across a clinic or region
When to use Melatech / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if Melatech is the right fit.
When to use Melatech
- General practitioners who need a dermatology opinion without sending the patient down a months-long referral queue
- Primary care clinics wanting to cut documentation time with automatically generated SOAP notes
- Danish general practices, whose EHR systems, MitID login and clinical language the tools are built around
- Regional health authorities and hospital groups negotiating pilots or volume licensing across many sites
- Dermatologists, plastic surgeons and pathologists receiving structured tele-referrals with full image history
When not to use Melatech
- Anyone outside a licensed clinical setting: the terms restrict use to healthcare professionals
- Clinicians expecting an autonomous diagnosis, since the software performs no medical analysis itself
- Non-Danish practices looking at Seranote, which is tuned to Danish general practice and Danish EHRs
- Development teams needing programmatic access, as no public API is published
- Buyers wanting to purchase hardware online today, the web shop still being announced as coming soon
How to use Melatech
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Contact the sales team, since Dermloop is not self-service and is deployed per clinic or region
- Sign in to Dermloop with MitID, or let it launch automatically from your practice EHR
- Open Patient Handoff on the workstation and generate the session QR code
- Scan that code with the Dermloop app to pair your phone to the workstation
- Scan the patient health card to retrieve their details without manual entry
- Choose the condition type to start the structured registration flow
- Capture an overview image, then attach the dermoscope and capture the lesion close-up
- Review the case summary on mobile and submit it to the specialist network
- Wait for the specialist assessment, notified by email and in the EHR, typically under 48 hours
- For Seranote, press record, review the generated SOAP note, then copy it into the journal system
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Unusually explicit privacy commitments: no audio stored, automatic pseudonymisation, no training on patient data
- Seranote publishes a clear price and a 28-day free trial requiring no credit card
- Processing stated to remain entirely within the EU/EEA for Seranote
- Hardware certified CE and FDA Class I, priced at a claimed one twelfth of the market leader
- Strong authentication through MitID and MitID Erhverv
- Free for doctors in training, and the Dermloop Learn app is free to everyone
- Adoption and accuracy figures are published together with their measurement basis
Cons
- The site contradicts itself on SOC 2: badged as compliant on three pages, described as still in progress on three others
- ISAE claims diverge too, between a completed 3000 review and work towards 3001, with no certificate number or auditor named
- HIPAA compliance is asserted once on the homepage and never substantiated anywhere else
- No pricing page at all: only Seranote publishes a figure, Dermloop and hardware remain quote-only
- No public API, so integration depends entirely on a contractual EHR project
- Seranote is heavily Denmark-specific, from the trained model to the EHRs and login method
- Several linked pages do not exist, and the announced web shop is still unavailable
Pricing & Plans
Melatech does not publish a pricing page. The only public price applies to Seranote, offered as a single Standard Plan at 399.00 DKK per user per month, presented under the heading one plan, no hidden fees. It includes unlimited transcriptions, automatic SOAP note generation, voice commands and templates, and copy-paste EHR integration. A 28-day free trial is available without a credit card and can be cancelled at any time, and the plan is free for resident doctors and GP trainees. Whether the amount includes Danish VAT is not stated. The Dermloop platform and the Melascope and Colposcope hardware carry no published price and are sold through the sales team, which handles enterprise pilots, regional agreements and volume licensing. The Dermloop Learn mobile application is free on both app stores.

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how Melatech handles your data.
GDPR overview
GDPR implementation is documented in concrete terms rather than asserted. Melatech ApS names itself controller, gives Trekronergade 126G, 2500 Valby as its address and support@melatech.io as the contact point. The policy, effective 1 January 2026, enumerates the legal bases used, including Article 9(2)(h) for health data, and the full set of data subject rights: access, rectification, erasure, objection and restriction, portability and withdrawal of consent, with a stated 30-day response time and a right to complain to the Danish authority Datatilsynet. Processing of patient data is framed under Article 28 with a Data Processing Agreement. Transfers outside the EEA rely on Standard Contractual Clauses, and Seranote is stated to process exclusively within the EU/EEA. No Data Protection Officer is named, and no Article 27 representative applies since the publisher is EU-established.
Who owns the data?
Ownership is split along GDPR lines. Melatech ApS is the data controller for the data it collects about its own users and website visitors. For patient data submitted through the platform, Melatech acts only as a data processor under Article 28 GDPR, and the terms state plainly that the customer organisation remains the controller. A Data Processing Agreement governs that relationship. Melatech retains intellectual property over the software, algorithms, designs and branding, which customers may not copy, modify, distribute or reverse-engineer without written permission. Clinical content submitted by clinicians therefore stays theirs; the platform around it does not.
Reuse rights
Melatech lists its purposes explicitly: operating and improving the platform, facilitating clinical workflows between primary care and specialists, producing AI documentation through speech-to-text and text-to-note, account communication, legal compliance, and statistical analysis on anonymised or aggregated data. The legal bases cited are contract performance, legitimate interests, legal obligation, consent, and Article 9(2)(h) for health data. Two commitments stand out. Consultations are never used to train AI models, the models being trained on synthetic and internally generated data instead. Audio is not kept at all: each segment is deleted immediately after transcription, and patient names and CPR numbers are pseudonymised before anything reaches the model. Customers reuse their own clinical output freely within their record systems; they acquire no rights over the software itself.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
Melatech states that its primary data infrastructure is hosted in the European Union. Where data does move outside the EU or EEA, the privacy policy says appropriate safeguards apply, naming Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent. US enterprise customers are explicitly served from EU-hosted infrastructure under contractual data processing agreements rather than by moving data to the United States. For Seranote the wording is stricter still: all processing happens exclusively within the EU/EEA, with no transfers to third countries. No individual country is named, and no hosting provider is identified, so the commitment is regional rather than specific. The corporate website itself resolves to a server in Paris, France, but that concerns the marketing site and should not be read as the location of clinical data.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Melatech.
- The site contradicts itself on SOC 2 and ISAE certification; treat any security badge as unverified until the certificates are produced
- HIPAA compliance appears once on the homepage without a business associate agreement or any supporting page
- The publisher states it was founded in 2015, while the Danish register records incorporation on 07/08/2018
- Screens shown on the Dermloop page are mock-ups, with invented patients and CPR numbers; the figures in them are not real results
- Automated documentation invites over-trust: notes must be read and corrected before entering a patient record, as the terms require
- Leaning on asynchronous specialist review can erode a clinician's own dermoscopic judgement if training is neglected
- No subprocessor list is published, so the downstream chain handling clinical data cannot be independently checked
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Two very different levels. Seranote is presented as immediate: no new systems, no complex setup, usable the same day, with MitID Erhverv required to sign in. Dermloop is a clinic-level deployment involving EHR integration, workstation-to-mobile pairing by QR code and physical hardware, and it is not self-service, so it starts with a sales conversation. The hardware itself is easy, attaching magnetically in under ten seconds.

Should you pick Melatech?
Melatech is a coherent and unusually verifiable offering. Rather than a single tool, it is an ecosystem assembled around one clinical problem: primary care clinicians facing dermatology waits they cannot shorten. Each pillar addresses a distinct part of that pathway, and the pieces genuinely connect, with images from the Melascope flowing into Dermloop and documentation flowing back into the record system.
Its strongest suit is privacy. The commitments are specific rather than decorative: no audio retained, automatic pseudonymisation before anything reaches the model, no training on patient data, and processing kept inside the EU/EEA. Few vendors state all four so plainly. The regulatory posture on hardware is equally concrete, with CE and FDA Class I classifications named alongside the applicable MDR rule.
The weak point is the security certification story. SOC 2 is badged as achieved on three pages and described as still in progress on three others, and the ISAE claims move between a completed 3000 review and work towards 3001, with no certificate number or auditing body given anywhere. A single unsupported mention of HIPAA compounds the impression. None of these were retained here, and a buyer should ask for the documents directly.
Pricing transparency is partial: one of three pillars publishes a figure, and the rest goes through sales. Buyers outside Denmark should also note how much of Seranote assumes Danish practice, from the trained model to MitID. The product is clearly active and moving, with a gynaecology device and further Seranote features announced. Treated as a Danish primary care platform rather than a general-purpose AI tool, it is a serious proposition.
