What is Tandem Health?
Tandem Health is a European clinical AI assistant built and run by clinicians. The company says more than 50 doctors, psychologists and pharmacists work in-house, and it opens with the observation that drives the product: roughly 40% of clinical time goes to administrative work.
The product is three modules. AI Scribe listens to the consultation, filters what is clinically relevant and structures a note according to the specialty. The audio is processed in real time and never stored, and the note is ready by the end of the visit. It also drafts the paperwork that follows, from referrals to sick notes and visit summaries, and both note and documents can be corrected by voice, without a click or a keystroke. A consultation can run in the patient's language while the note is produced in another. Coding Assistant surfaces diagnosis and procedure codes from the conversation and the patient's history, sorted by the active standard, and flags invalid or incomplete combinations before anything is transferred. Clinical Decision Support, currently in early access, answers a natural-language question during the visit with a reply linked back to its source in the guidelines, and lets a team upload its own local protocols.
Everything then moves into the medical record: the site names 132 record systems for one-click transfer and offers to build custom integrations for the rest.
The regulatory framing is unusually explicit for this category. All three modules are CE-marked as Class IIa medical devices under the EU MDR, assessed by a notified body, and the site lists ISO 13485, ISO 27001, ISO 42001 and ISO 14001, NHS DSPT, UK Cyber Essentials Plus, NEN 7510-1:2024, DCB0129, ENS Nivel Alto and LVV Class A1. All patient data is processed and stored in European data centres.
Evidence is quantified. A study of 375,000 notes at Capio Ramsay Santé reports 29% less documentation time on average, and a peer-reviewed paper in JMIR Medical Informatics dated 10 July 2026 covers 236,153 notes. The company claims 5,000+ care organisations across Europe.
Deployment is a web app, a Windows application in .exe and MSI form, and a Chrome, Edge and Firefox browser plugin; mobile runs through the browser, with no native app. Tandem Health was founded in August 2023 by Lukas Saari, Oscar Boldt-Christmas and Oliver Åstrand, and now lists 10+ European offices.

The lowest paid entry point is the Pro plan at EUR 125 per user per month, billed annually; the pricing page carries an annual/monthly toggle advertising a 15% saving for the annual commitment, but the equivalent monthly amount is calculated client-side and does not appear in the served page. The Enterprise tier is priced on request. The terms of service state that features, limits and pricing may vary by region and may change over time (clause 15.1). GDPR overview
GDPR compliance is claimed explicitly on the home page and the data security page, and the privacy policy, updated 16 April 2026, is detailed rather than boilerplate. The service is operated by Tandem Health AB (reg. 559444-6857), Malmskillnadsgatan 44A, 111 57 Stockholm, Sweden, with a data protection officer reachable at dpo@tandemhealth.ai. Legal bases are named individually: consent 6(1)(a), contract 6(1)(b), legal obligation 6(1)(c) and legitimate interest 6(1)(f). Rights under articles 15 to 22 and withdrawal of consent are set out, with a one-month response window extendable by two. Transfers outside the EEA rely on adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses, and breaches are notified within 72 hours where the risk requires. The supervisory authority is Sweden's IMY. A dedicated section covers the UK GDPR, the ICO and a UK addendum. A DPA is accepted at sign-up; no Article 27 representative is named, the publisher being EU-established.
Who owns the data?
The terms of service are explicit: all customer data remains the property of the customer, and Tandem may process it only to provide the service (clause 6.1). On request, that data must be communicated back to the customer without undue delay (6.2). Deleted data is permanently removed within 30 days (6.4), and on termination everything is either returned or permanently deleted within the same 30 days, following the customer's instructions (6.5). What Tandem keeps is the software itself: all developments of the service remain the property of Tandem Health AB (clause 11). On the platform, the client organisation acts as data controller and Tandem as processor (privacy policy 10.3-10.4).
Reuse rights
Because the customer owns its data outright, it can reuse, export and share whatever the service produces without asking Tandem for permission: notes, documents and codes go into the patient record as the clinician decides. Tandem's own reuse is narrow. The data security page states that the company does not train AI models on patient or personal data, and that conversation audio is never stored, being processed in real time and deleted once transcription completes. The privacy policy adds that personal data is never sold, rented or traded (6.1) and is shared only with categories of processors, namely cloud hosting, CRM, support, analytics, payment and IT security, under contractual obligations (6.2). Health data is handled as a processor on behalf of client organisations (3.6), and no fully automated decision-making within the meaning of Article 22 takes place, algorithmic functions being there to assist human decisions (11.11). The one open-ended reuse Tandem reserves for itself is aggregated and anonymised data, which may be kept indefinitely for research, statistics and product development (8.2).

Hosting summary
Tandem states that all patient data is processed and stored in data centres within Europe, and that enterprise agreements are in place with its hosting providers to maintain compliance and strict security standards. Only the region is named: no specific hosting country and no cloud provider ever appears. Consultation audio is not hosted at all, being processed in real time and deleted once transcription completes. The privacy policy (7.1-7.2) nonetheless allows transfers outside the EEA to service providers, group companies or partners, covered by adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses. The security measures listed include TLS 1.2 or above in transit, encryption at rest, multi-factor authentication, role-based access controls, third-party penetration testing, 24/7 monitoring and encrypted backups. One technical note from our own checks: the website's IP address resolves to the Netherlands on Amazon's AS16509, with an anycast indication. That describes where the marketing site is served from, not where patient data lives.

- Every note must be reviewed and edited before it enters a patient record, and a fluent generated note invites skimming rather than reading, which makes a plausible-sounding error the hardest kind to catch
- Sustained reliance on an automated scribe can erode a clinician's own habit of structuring and synthesising a consultation, a skill that matters on the day the tool is unavailable or wrong
- Commercial terms deserve a close read: prices, limits and features vary by region and may change (clause 15.1), fees are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise (15.8), and total liability is capped at what the customer paid over the six months preceding a claim (clause 12)
- Disputes fall under Swedish law and go to arbitration in Stockholm under the SCC, conducted in Swedish (clause 14), which is a real obstacle for a customer based elsewhere
- Transparency stops short in places: the announced Trust Center returns nothing without JavaScript, no named list of sub-processors is published, and aggregated anonymised data may be kept indefinitely (privacy 8.2)
