What is BaanUp?
BaanUp is a Dutch AI interview coach built around the voice rather than the keyboard. Its premise, repeated across the site, is that a job interview is a spoken conversation and not a written exam, so preparing for one should involve actually talking. The AI plays the recruiter: it asks realistic questions, listens to the answer, pushes back when a reply stays vague, and adjusts to the candidate's level.
What separates it from a general chatbot is the analysis. The tool assesses not only what is said but how it is said, weighing structure against the STAR method alongside content, pace, clarity, hesitations and filler words. Feedback comes after each answer or at the end of the session, and every session produces a full transcript plus a written analysis. A dashboard keeps the history: which question types have been practised, which points still need work.
Sessions are configurable. Candidates set their sector, from IT and finance to healthcare, sales and marketing, along with the role and the experience level, from entry-level to management, and may upload a CV or the job advert so the questions match the real vacancy. Three formats are sold: 15 minutes for three or four questions, 40 minutes for eight to ten, and 60 minutes for twelve to fifteen, a full mock interview. The interview types covered run from first and second rounds to behavioural and competency questions, motivation, salary negotiation, career changes, video interviews and interviews held in English.
Two audiences are addressed at once: Dutch speakers preparing for Dutch interviews, and internationals working in the Netherlands who need to rehearse in either language. Everything runs in a browser, with a microphone and nothing to install, at any hour and without an appointment. Payment is per session through Stripe, with no subscription.
The publisher is a young one-person business established in Amsterdam and registered with the Chamber of Commerce in 2025, so its usage figures should be read as claims: the home page cites 100+ users and 1,500+ practice sessions while the product page cites 5,000+ sessions. There is no permanent free plan. Free access is limited to a one-off trial conversation, five minutes according to the pricing page and sixty seconds according to the home page, for which no payment card is required. Beyond that, BaanUp is sold session by session with no subscription, and the lowest paid entry point is €9.00 for fifteen minutes of practice. Two longer sessions follow at €19.00 for forty minutes and €29.00 for sixty minutes. All amounts are quoted in euros and include VAT. Readers should note that other pages of the same site state different figures for the same sessions, so the amount shown at the Stripe checkout should be treated as the authoritative one.

GDPR overview
Compliance is claimed explicitly and in some detail. The privacy policy invokes the GDPR, the Dutch implementing act and the Telecommunications Act, names BaanUp as controller with Chamber of Commerce number 99359855 and VAT number NL005382516B05, and gives a legal basis for each of six processing purposes. Rights are documented article by article: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability in JSON or CSV, objection and withdrawal of consent, with a one-month response time for access requests. Article 28 processing agreements are said to be in place with every processor, transfers outside the EEA rely on standard contractual clauses, breaches are reported to the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens within 72 hours, and the minimum age is 16. No data protection officer is named; privacy@baanup.nl is the stated contact.
Who owns the data?
Under clause 8.3 of the terms you keep every right over what you supply: spoken answers, uploaded CVs, job adverts. BaanUp receives only a limited, non-exclusive licence to use that content to deliver and improve the service, and undertakes not to pass it to third parties beyond what delivery or the law requires. The platform itself, its software and its AI technology remain the property of BaanUp or its licensors. The controller is BaanUp, a Dutch sole trader registered under Chamber of Commerce number 99359855. The privacy policy states that personal data is never sold. Transcripts and the account itself can be deleted at any time.
Reuse rights
You may reuse your own material freely. The answers you speak, the CVs and job adverts you upload and the transcripts you get back remain yours under clause 8.3.1, and nothing in the terms requires permission to use them elsewhere. What BaanUp may do with them is narrower. Audio is streamed to ElevenLabs and other speech services for real-time recognition, transcribed, then deleted: the policy says recordings are never stored permanently and survive at most 24 to 48 hours for technical processing. Transcripts stay in your account so progress can be tracked, and you can remove them yourself. Asked whether answers train the AI, the policy answers no for personal data and sessions, which are never shared with other users, but adds that anonymised and aggregated data may be used to improve its AI models; no opt-out is documented. Staff cannot listen to individual recordings without explicit consent, and the policy states that AI feedback is not automated decision-making with legal effects.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
The privacy policy names four processors with their function and their location. Supabase provides database hosting and authentication from the United States, with EU safeguards through standard contractual clauses. ElevenLabs supplies the voice AI used for speech recognition, from the United States and Europe. Stripe handles payments from Europe and the United States and is PCI-DSS certified, with Mollie cited alongside it. Plausible Analytics, based in Europe, provides cookie-free, anonymised audience measurement. Transfers outside the European Economic Area, chiefly to the United States, rely on standard contractual clauses, with the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and additional measures such as encryption, access controls and monitoring also mentioned. Article 28 processing agreements are in place with every processor. Two limits are worth noting: the site never states in which country the audio of a session is processed, and the publisher makes no hosting commitment of its own. The domain's IP address resolves to a Cloudflare anycast node, which is a content-delivery point of presence and says nothing about where data is stored.

- Your spoken answers, CV and job adverts pass through third parties: the database is hosted in the United States by Supabase under standard contractual clauses, and speech is processed by ElevenLabs
- Anonymised and aggregated data may be used to improve the models, and no opt-out is documented anywhere on the site
- The legal pages are unfinished, with address and registration placeholders left in plain text, a dead cookie policy link and two conflicting update dates, which weakens the recourse a dispute would rely on

The only real requirements are a working microphone, an internet connection and a quiet room. The site claims a start in under two minutes and a first spoken answer within sixty seconds. The interface is deliberately spare: an AI interviewer, a large microphone button and a timer. BaanUp answers a real need with an unusually clear idea: interviews are spoken, so practice should be spoken too, and in Dutch, which most comparable tools do not offer. The pay-per-session model fits the way people actually job-hunt, in short bursts around one specific vacancy, and the free taster removes any reason not to try. The product itself is coherent: voice conversation, real follow-up questions, feedback on delivery as well as content, transcripts and a progress dashboard.
The reservations concern the publisher's housekeeping rather than the product. This is a one-person business whose domain was registered in July 2025, with no postal address published and no archived history. Its legal pages are visibly unfinished: placeholders for the address, the Chamber of Commerce number and a disputes body are still sitting in plain text, the cookie policy link is dead, and two incompatible update dates appear on the same privacy policy. Most consequentially, the site states three different price lists for the same three sessions, and the pricing page still shows a leftover Webflow demo block quoting dollar amounts that have nothing to do with BaanUp.
None of this makes the service untrustworthy, and the privacy policy is in fact more detailed than many larger vendors publish: named processors, per-category retention periods, audio deleted once transcribed. It does mean a buyer should confirm the amount at the Stripe checkout rather than trust a figure read elsewhere on the site, and should treat the claimed usage statistics as marketing rather than measurement. For a candidate who freezes when speaking and wants unlimited, unjudged repetition in Dutch before a real interview, the proposition remains a sound one at the price.
