Overview

What is Yepa?

Yepa is a Swiss platform built on a simple observation: what a person actually does when learning is largely invisible, even to themselves. Its publisher presents Yepa as three things at once, a method for describing learning experiences, a platform for sharing them, and an assisting AI. The central concept is the Personal Learning Environment, the material, social, technical and pedagogical resources someone really mobilises when learning.

The product runs in three movements: describe, model, analyse. First, a chatbot trained on Yepa's own interviewing technique guides a conversation about one concrete learning situation. Second, a modelling AI converts that conversation into an LX Map, a cartography of the experience. The map brings out the core of the activity, the skills and knowledge mobilised, the material, social, technical and pedagogical resources involved, the action rules and operating habits at work, and the cognitive strategies used. Third, a suggestion and exploration AI opens onto learning paths, job correspondences and possible skill transfers. The stated positioning is to show what a person really does rather than what they believe they do.

Six uses are advertised: learning support, validation of prior experience, professional integration, training engineering, course design and research. A dedicated page sets out fourteen challenges grouped into four families. Inside the application you find Explorer, which aggregates several models into one unified view, Reports for PDF output, Job Matching, Learning Paths, and Graphy for assisted exploration. Organisations add seats, workgroups, a dashboard and organisation-wide annotation tags.

The web application runs on yepa.solutions, built with React on AWS Amplify and Cognito, while the showcase site is a WordPress install; the interface is offered in English, French, German and Italian. The publisher is Yllyl Sàrl, based in Givisiez in the canton of Fribourg and entered in the Swiss commercial register on 7 February 2020. Yepa has taken first prize in the Dalle Molle competition for quality of life, reached the finals of the Fribourg-Freiburg innovation prize 2024-2025, is backed by an Innosuisse innovation project and partners the IPT Foundation. Its underlying method, MEPA, is published as a research article on the site.

When to use Yepa / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if Yepa is the right fit.

When to use Yepa

  • Learning and career support professionals who work with individuals or small groups and need a structured picture of how each person actually learns.
  • Training organisations, professional integration bodies and companies deploying learning support across teams, with seats and workgroups.
  • Research teams studying learning practices, who can build on the published MEPA method and on a Scholar plan designed after contact.
  • People in career transition or retraining who need to evidence informal skills for an application, a job match or a validation of prior experience.
  • Instructional designers and education programme managers evaluating an existing training scheme and looking for evidence of what learners really do.

When not to use Yepa

  • Teams that need learning data to flow into other systems: there is no public API, no connector and no published integration.
  • Mobile-first users: there is no iOS or Android app, and the signed-in interface is pinned to a 1024 px desktop layout.
  • Buyers who want to compare prices before talking to anyone, since the paid personal licences carry no published amount.
  • Organisations looking for a learning management system or a course authoring tool: Yepa models learning experiences, it neither hosts nor builds courses.
  • Public buyers and security teams that require formal proof, as no ISO 27001, SOC 2 or equivalent certification is claimed and no processing agreement is published.

How to use Yepa

A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.

  1. From yepa.ch, follow the "Commencez maintenant" button through to the application hosted on yepa.solutions.
  2. Create an account on the sign-up page, where authentication is handled by Amazon Cognito, or join an existing organisation through an invitation.
  3. Start on the Yepa Free licence, active by default: one trial interview, one model, plus unlimited manual creation and Graphy exploration.
  4. Open the folders view and use the Create button, top right, to start a conversation or a model.
  5. Answer the chatbot's questions about one concrete learning situation; say so in the chat, or use the button, to have a question rephrased or to move on to the next one.
  6. Take your time: response speed affects neither the credit cost nor the quality of the result.
  7. Let the model be generated from the conversation; it appears as linked cards built from what you shared.
  8. Hover over a card and click the pencil to read the original wording behind the reformulated text.
  9. Rename or move a folder or a model from the three-dot menu; a conversation cannot be renamed, as its name reflects the situation covered.
  10. Buy a licence or credits from "License & Credits" in the sidebar, with payment through Stripe and a PDF invoice by email; organisations buy seats and manage workgroups, members and roles from there.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • A complete chain from interview to modelling to analysis, which is rare in this niche
  • Data hosted in Switzerland, at AWS Zurich, confirmed by two independent first-party sources
  • Privacy by default: the Private level applies without any action from the user, and withdrawal from the recommendation system is immediate and available at any time
  • Stated commitment not to train the AI models on user data, except on specific plans with prior consent
  • Intellectual property over the models and content stays with the user
  • A permanent free licence, Yepa Free, allows the tool to be tried without paying, in any of the four interface languages
  • Academic grounding: the MEPA method is published, the project is backed by Innosuisse and it won first prize in the Dalle Molle competition

Cons

  • No price is published for the paid personal licences, Starter and Pro; the only public amount, 289 CHF per seat, covers additional organisation seats
  • No general terms and conditions are published on yepa.ch, and the application shows a "terms of use" label with no public URL behind it
  • No data processing agreement is published or announced as available on request, and no subprocessor list exists
  • No security certification is claimed, neither ISO 27001 nor SOC 2, and no GDPR compliance is explicitly claimed either
  • Two privacy policies coexist and diverge: the one on yepa.ch points to a partner platform, isyflow.ch, whose policy URL now returns a 404, while the application carries its own far more detailed text
  • No mobile application and no public API, and the signed-in interface is pinned to 1024 px, so desktop use is effectively required
  • Additional credit purchase is still announced as coming soon, no minimum age is stated, and the /services/ page of the showcase site still serves an unedited theme template unrelated to the product
Pricing

Pricing & Plans

Yepa operates on a freemium basis. A permanent free licence, Yepa Free, is described as the default licence for everyone and covers one trial interview and one model, with unlimited manual model creation and Graphy exploration. Paid use combines an annual licence, valid for one year from the payment date, with credits consumed per action: one credit per generated report, per professional matching analysis and per generated learning path, while manual model creation costs nothing and Graphy remains unlimited. Two paid personal licences exist, Yepa Starter, limited to three models, and Yepa Pro, offering unlimited models and uses, priority support and early access to new features. No amount is published for either: those figures are served by the authenticated backend. The only public price, 289 CHF per seat and per year, applies to additional seats within the organisation offer and is explicitly indicative, adjustable at the payment page. Credit top-ups are announced in three sizes, 30, 300 and 1000 credits, but are not yet purchasable. Volume deployments are negotiated directly, with advantages the publisher describes as indicative and not contractual commitments. Payment goes through Stripe and a PDF invoice is sent by email. For this reason no starting price is recorded in this listing: the only published amount does not represent the entry-level paid licence.

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how Yepa handles your data.

GDPR overview

The publisher is Swiss and makes no explicit claim of GDPR compliance, neither on the website nor inside the application. GDPR, RGPD and DSGVO appear in the application only as search keywords in the FAQ, never as a commitment, and the "Accord RGPD" checkbox on the access-request form is a consent box, not a compliance statement. Concrete elements do exist, however: the application documents rights of access, rectification and erasure, deletion being "final and irreversible, except for data we are legally required to retain", together with withdrawal from the recommendation system at any time and with immediate effect. A data protection contact is published, privacy@yllyl.ch, and the publisher commits to notifying the individuals concerned in the event of a data breach and to setting up an independent ethics committee. No Article 27 EU representative is designated and no data processing agreement is published.

Who owns the data?

According to the policy embedded in the application, all data created by a user belongs to that user. Models, LX Maps and content produced on the platform are covered by the user's own copyright, and the publisher states that it claims no intellectual property over them. Data is never sold, rented or transferred to third parties for commercial purposes, and no commercial exploitation takes place without explicit consent. Users can consult, export, modify and delete their material at any time, and access by the Yepa team is described as strictly limited to maintenance, support and security. Note that no general terms and conditions are published: these commitments come from the policy shown inside the application, not from a contract page.

Reuse rights

Yepa collects identification data (surname, first name, email, encrypted password), content produced by the user (chatbot conversations, LX Maps, comments, annotations), technical data (connection logs, device type, browser) and usage data (features, pages, interactions). The stated purposes are service delivery, improvement through anonymised analysis, support, billing and security; usage statistics are described as fully anonymised and never linked to names or private data, and may be used to adjust credit pricing. Users may consult, export, modify and delete their own material freely, without asking permission. Sharing is entirely user-driven and set at four levels: Private, the default; Released, anonymised and feeding the recommendation system; Private Sharing, named and revocable; and Public Sharing. The publisher states that no sharing happens without an explicit action from the user, and that user data is never used to train or improve its AI models except on specific plans where the user has given prior consent.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
No retention period is published, either on yepa.ch or inside the application: nothing states how long conversations, models or account data are kept. What is documented is deletion. Any user can request the deletion of their account and all their data, and that deletion is presented as final and irreversible, with a single exception for data the publisher is legally required to retain. The website's privacy policy indicates a deletion route by email, and the data protection contact for the application is privacy@yllyl.ch. Withdrawal from the recommendation system is possible at any time and takes immediate effect, though it has no retroactive effect on past uses. On the commercial side, a licence is valid for one year from the payment date, and the licence comparison table mentions lifetime read-only access.

Hosting summary

The application states that data is stored on secure servers located in Switzerland, at AWS Zurich. That statement is corroborated independently: the application's AppSync endpoint runs in the eu-central-2 region, which is AWS Europe (Zurich). The showcase site yepa.ch is hosted separately, also in Switzerland, at Infomaniak in Geneva (AS29222, IP address 185.125.27.12). On security, the publisher states that passwords are encrypted and never stored in clear text, that industry-standard encryption protocols are used, and that appropriate technical and organisational measures are in place against destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorised disclosure and unauthorised access. No subprocessor list is published: AWS is identifiable from the technical fingerprint of the application and Stripe from the payment flow, but neither is declared as such by the publisher. The jurisdiction is Swiss throughout, the publisher Yllyl Sàrl being registered in Givisiez in the canton of Fribourg, with no establishment or hosting declared in the European Union or the United States.

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Yepa.

  • The LX Map is a reformulation produced by an AI from what you said, and it can smooth, flatter or misread your account. Hover over a card and open the original wording before treating a model as a portrait of yourself.
  • Handing the description of your own learning to a machine can dull the reflective work that makes the exercise worthwhile. The model is a starting point for a conversation, not a verdict on a person.
  • Interview content is intimate by nature. Private is the default level, but Released feeds an anonymised recommendation system: check which level a model carries before circulating it inside an organisation.
  • Used in recruitment or professional integration, job correspondences and skill comparisons can become a de facto sorting of people. They come from a single self-reported interview, not from an assessment.
  • Two divergent privacy policies coexist: the one published on yepa.ch describes a partner architecture, isyflow.ch, whose policy URL now returns a 404 and which the current application no longer reflects. Ask which text governs your account.
  • No terms and conditions, no data processing agreement and no subprocessor list are published, and no security certification is claimed, which is a real obstacle for a regulated or public buyer.
  • The yepa.ch domain was registered in 2008 and first captured in 2009, eleven years before Yllyl Sàrl was entered in the commercial register: the domain had an earlier holder, and those dates say nothing about the product's age. In the same way, the logos displayed under "they trust us" and the Innosuisse support are partners and funders, not product integrations.
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Technically, close to none. There is nothing to install: Yepa is a web application, the account is created online through Amazon Cognito, and there is no integration to configure, no API key and no connector. Plan for a desktop screen, as the signed-in interface is pinned to 1024 px wide. An in-app onboarding introduces the model view, Graphy and the original-wording feature. The real difficulty is methodological rather than technical: describing a learning situation well takes practice, which is why the publisher offers training in four modules across three levels of expertise, along with webinars and guided support.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does Yepa produce from an interview?
An LX Map: a cartography of how you learn and of the skills you mobilise, generated by a modelling AI from the conversation you had with the chatbot.
Do I have to answer the chatbot quickly?
No. Response time affects neither the credit cost nor the quality of the result, so you can take as long as you need. If a question is unclear, say so in the chat or click the button and the system rephrases it; you can also skip to the next one.
Is my data used to train the AI?
No, according to the policy embedded in the application, except on specific plans where the user has given prior consent.
Where is my data hosted?
On secure servers located in Switzerland, at AWS Zurich, according to the in-app policy.
Who owns the models I create?
You do. Models, LX Maps and content created by users are protected by the user's copyright, and Yepa states that it claims no intellectual property over them.
Is there a free offer?
Yes. The Yepa Free licence is active by default on every account and covers one trial interview and one model, with unlimited manual creation and Graphy exploration.
How long does a paid licence last?
One year from the payment date, together with an allocation of credits consumed as you generate reports, matching analyses and learning paths.
Can several people work together?
Yes, through an organisation: seats are purchased, workgroups are created, and members and roles are managed from a dashboard.
Is there a mobile app or an API?
No. Use is web-only, and the interface is available in English, French, German and Italian.
Can I delete my account and my data?
Yes. Deletion is presented as final and irreversible, except for data the publisher is legally required to retain.
Conclusion

Should you pick Yepa?

Yepa is a niche tool that attempts something few others do: take a spoken account of one real learning situation and turn it into a structured, readable model of how a person actually learns. The chain holds from end to end, from the chatbot interview to the modelling AI that produces the LX Map and on to an analysis layer offering job correspondences and learning paths. It rests on a published method, MEPA, and on genuine Swiss academic grounding, with Innosuisse backing, first prize in the Dalle Molle competition and a place among the finalists of the Fribourg-Freiburg innovation prize.

The data story is unusually clean for a small publisher. Hosting is in Switzerland at AWS Zurich, the Private sharing level applies by default, the publisher undertakes not to train its models on user data except on specific consented plans, and intellectual property over the models stays with the user.

The reservations are documentary rather than technical. The paid entry level carries no public price at all, which makes the offer impossible to assess without contacting the company. No terms and conditions, no data processing agreement and no subprocessor list are published, and neither a security certification nor GDPR compliance is claimed. The privacy policy of the showcase site describes an architecture the current application no longer reflects, and the partner policy it links to returns a 404.

Maturity sits somewhere in between. The application sells and takes payment through Stripe, webinars are scheduled for autumn 2026, and the free licence lets anyone test the concept at no cost, yet additional credit purchase is still coming soon and the showcase site still carries an unedited theme page. Worth a look for training, guidance and research professionals; worth a conversation before any organisational commitment.
