Overview

What is Magnific?

Magnific is the creative AI platform operated by Freepik Company, S.L., a Spanish company based in Malaga. The name is recent and matters: in April 2026 Freepik renamed its whole platform after Magnific AI, the creative upscaler it had acquired in May 2024, and the site now greets visitors with the line Freepik is now Magnific. The original magnific.ai address redirects here, and the historic service survives only at magnific.ai/legacy, open to existing account holders and closed to new registrations.

What the platform offers is breadth. Rather than train a single house model, Magnific aggregates more than thirty third-party engines behind one interface and one wallet: Google Veo 3.1 and Nano Banana, Kling, Seedream, Seedance, Flux.2, GPT Image 2, Grok Imagine, Runway Gen 4.5, Krea, Ideogram, Recraft, Luma, Pixverse, MiniMax, Wan, ElevenLabs and Lyria for audio, plus Topaz alongside its own upscalers. House models remain, notably Magnific Precision, Magnific Creative, Classic and Mystic.

Around those engines sits a full toolkit. On images: generation, editing, upscaling, extension, variations, background removal, skin enhancement, relighting and camera-angle changes. On video: generation, a project editor, a clip editor, upscaling and relighting. On audio: text to speech, music and sound effects. There is also 3D generation, a Designer, a mockup generator and an icon generator. Spaces, an infinite node-based canvas, lets teams chain these tools into workflows, compare versions and save any sequence as a one-click app, while Agents add knowledge bases, markdown skill files and persistent memory.

Underneath all of it lies the stock library inherited from Freepik: more than 250 million photos, vectors, PSDs, icons, videos, templates, fonts, mockups and audio tracks, licensed for commercial use and wired into the same workflows. Access is sold by credits, valid for a year with no monthly reset, across a free tier and Premium, Premium+, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans. The company claims more than a million subscribers, cites R/GA, Delivery Hero and Job&Talent among its customers, and produces its own films under the Magnific Originals label.

  • Produce voice-overs, music and sound effects, and clone voices
  • Build and replay collaborative workflows on an infinite node-based canvas
  • Draw on a library of more than 250 million photos, vectors, PSDs, icons and templates
  • Automate production through the API, the MCP server and editor plugins
Audience

When to use Magnific / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if Magnific is the right fit.

When to use Magnific

  • Creative teams and agencies producing on-brand campaigns at scale, who would otherwise juggle a separate subscription for every generative model
  • Art directors and designers who want more than thirty leading AI models behind one interface, one billing account and one asset library
  • Video editors, filmmakers and motion designers needing generation, storyboarding, relighting and upscaling to 4K in a single pipeline
  • E-commerce and retail teams shooting product imagery without a studio, a crew or a scheduling constraint
  • Developers and technical teams automating creative production through the credit-based API, the MCP server for Claude and ChatGPT, or editor plugins

When not to use Magnific

  • New users hoping to sign up for the original standalone Magnific upscaler: magnific.ai no longer accepts registrations and redirects to the full platform
  • Occasional users on a tight budget, since heavy production sits on the Pro tier at EUR 230 per month, or EUR 172.50 billed annually
  • Anyone needing commercial rights on the free plan, which is restricted to personal use and requires attribution
  • Buyers whose procurement requires a published subprocessor list or a contractual hosting country, as neither is disclosed on the site
  • Teams that expect monthly credit resets, because credits are granted for a year and never refill month by month
Get started

How to use Magnific

A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.

  1. Create an account on magnific.com; registration is no longer open on the legacy magnific.ai service
  2. Pick a starting point: a specific tool, the AI assistant, or a blank Space if you intend to build a workflow
  3. For upscaling, drag and drop one or several images, or pull a creation straight from the image generator
  4. Check the accepted formats, which are JPG, JPEG, WEBP and PNG
  5. Choose an upscaling model: Classic for a fast clean-up, Magnific for maximum detail, Creative for added texture
  6. Adjust the Creativity slider for invented texture and the Resemblance slider for fidelity to the original
  7. Hover over the Upscale button to read the credit cost before you commit to the generation
  8. Compare the result with the original using the before-and-after slider, then download or keep editing
  9. Batch up to twenty images at once, or two if you are on the free plan
  10. For recurring production, wire the steps into a Space, save it as an app, or call the API, MCP server or editor plugins

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • More than thirty leading generative models reachable through one subscription and one interface
  • The Magnific upscaler, long a standalone reference, now sits inside a complete production pipeline
  • Credits stay valid for a full year with no monthly reset, and can be topped up at any time
  • A commercial AI licence is included from the first paid tier, with no attribution required
  • A permanent free plan allows evaluation without a card, and paid plans carry a 30-day refund guarantee
  • Explicit written commitment never to train on uploaded images or voices, backed by ISO/IEC 27001 and SOC 2 claims
  • A European controller in Spain, a DPA on request and Standard Contractual Clauses for model providers

Cons

  • Credit pricing is genuinely hard to forecast: cost varies by model, resolution and clip duration
  • A steep gap separates Premium at EUR 12 per month from Pro at EUR 172.50, with little in between for mid-sized needs
  • The best upscalers, Magnific and Topaz, are gated behind Premium+ and above
  • The free plan is personal use only, requires attribution and caps downloads at ten per day
  • Extra credits cannot be purchased on the Free and Premium tiers
  • No subprocessor list is published and no hosting country is disclosed, which complicates procurement review
  • The recent change of name and domain has blurred existing bookmarks, and magnific.ai is closed to new sign-ups

Trust & Privacy

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how Magnific handles your data.

GDPR overview

GDPR implementation is concrete and documented. The privacy policy is expressly built on Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and Spain's Organic Law 3/2018, and names the controller: Freepik Company, S.L.U., tax ID B-93183366, Calle Molina Lario 13, 5th floor, 29015 Malaga. Rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction and portability are listed, with a one-month response commitment, and are exercised at rpd@magnific.com, from the account, or through support. A Data Processing Agreement is available on request for Individual, Business and Teams plans. Standard Contractual Clauses under Article 46.2.c cover transfers to third-party model providers. No Article 27 representative is designated, which is expected for a company established inside the European Union. The enterprise offer additionally claims ISO/IEC 27001 and SOC 2.

Who owns the data?

Users keep ownership of what they create: the platform states plainly that every asset belongs to the customer, and a commercial AI licence is included from the first paid tier. On personal data, the split is explicit. For the AI Suite, Magnific acts as a data processor and the user is the data controller of any personal data contained in uploaded material, which makes the user responsible for having a legal basis when a third party's face or voice is involved. Magnific becomes controller only for narrow purposes: system security, checking that outputs comply with the law and its terms, and service improvement, the last of which can be objected to.

Reuse rights

Paid subscribers may reuse their outputs commercially without asking permission: a commercial AI licence is bundled from the Premium tier upwards, with no attribution requirement, and Premium+ and above add music rights. A merchandising licence is offered depending on the plan. The free plan is the exception, allowing personal use only and requiring attribution on every asset. On Magnific's own side, uploaded content is processed to produce the requested output and nothing more: the company commits in writing never to use uploaded images or voices to train or improve its models or those of its third-party providers. Prompts and outputs may be studied for service improvement under legitimate interest, a processing users can object to. Generated content stays subject to the Acceptable Use Policy and may be removed after a valid complaint.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
Images and audio files you upload are deleted immediately once the generated content has been produced. Prompts and outputs are kept for as long as the contract runs, then blocked during the statutory limitation period rather than erased outright. Third-party model providers acting as subprocessors keep personal data for a maximum of thirty days after generation. Elsewhere the periods differ by purpose: thirteen months for site security and anti-fraud, five years after the contract ends for customer records, six years for accounting documents, three years for marketing contacts or until you object, one year for job applications, and five years after a support ticket closes. Non-commercial enquiries are deleted once answered.

Hosting summary

The site does not disclose where Magnific hosts its own data: no country, no region and no named infrastructure provider appear on the pages reviewed. What is documented concerns the third-party models. Each generative engine is identified as hosted either in a country the European Union deems adequate, or in a country whose rules offer a lower level of protection than the GDPR, and the decision to use one or the other, including the international transfer it implies, is left explicitly to the user. Magnific signs Standard Contractual Clauses under Article 46.2.c with every third-party model provider. The controller itself is established in Spain, at Malaga, which places the core relationship under EU jurisdiction, with disputes referred to the courts of Malaga. The enterprise offer claims ISO/IEC 27001 and SOC 2, and a Trust Center is published online, though it renders dynamically and exposes no static detail. Buyers with a hosting-location requirement should ask directly.

Watch-outs

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Magnific.

  • Credit costs vary by model, resolution and clip length, so a month of enthusiastic experimenting can burn an annual allowance faster than expected
  • You choose the third-party model yourself, and that choice decides where your data is processed, potentially outside the European Economic Area
  • The free plan grants a personal-use licence only, with mandatory attribution: publishing that output commercially would breach the terms
  • Volume is not quality. Having thirty models on tap encourages generating more rather than directing better, and creative judgement erodes when every brief becomes a prompt
  • Uploading someone else's face or voice makes you the data controller, responsible for holding a valid legal basis before you generate anything
  • Generated content stays subject to the Acceptable Use Policy and can be removed, with the account suspended, after a substantiated complaint
  • Building a production pipeline on one vendor that has already changed its name, its domain and its plan packaging within a year carries a real continuity risk
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Getting started is easy. Everything runs in the browser after a simple sign-up, with no software to install, and the platform advertises thirty tools available without setup. Two things do take learning: the credit economy, whose cost per generation shifts with the model and resolution, and the Spaces canvas, which rewards a workflow mindset rather than a click-and-hope one. Advanced routes, meaning the API, the MCP server and the editor plugins, require genuine technical work and a developer on hand.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does magnific.ai still work after the rebrand?
Yes, but only for people who already had an account. The old service remains fully operational at magnific.ai/legacy, with galleries, tokens and subscriptions untouched, and creations can be exported as ZIP files. New registrations happen exclusively on magnific.com.
How do the credits work?
Credits are granted per year on annual billing and stay valid for twelve months with no monthly reset. Each generation costs a variable amount depending on the model, the resolution and, for video, the clip length. The cost appears before you launch a generation, and credits can be topped up at any time.
Is there a free plan?
Yes, and it is permanent rather than a time-limited trial. It allows roughly twenty AI image generations per day with the in-house model and ten downloads per day, but content is limited to the free library and comes under a personal-use licence requiring attribution.
What is the cheapest paid plan?
Premium, at EUR 12 per month when billed annually, or EUR 16 per month without commitment. It includes 240,000 credits per year, full access to premium stock content and a commercial licence with no attribution. All prices exclude VAT and local taxes.
Is my content used to train AI models?
No. The privacy policy states that under no circumstances will uploaded images or voices be used to train or improve Magnific's models or those of its third-party providers, and the enterprise page repeats the commitment. Prompts and outputs may be studied for service improvement, a processing you can object to.
Can I use the generated images commercially?
Yes, from the Premium plan upwards, which includes a commercial AI licence with no attribution required. Premium+ and above add music rights, and a merchandising licence is offered depending on the plan. The free plan does not allow commercial use.
What image formats does the upscaler accept?
JPG, JPEG, WEBP and PNG. You can process up to twenty images at once, or two if you are on the free plan, and compare each result with the original using a before-and-after slider.
Is there an API or an integration with AI assistants?
Yes. A credit-based API is documented for developers, and an MCP server connects the platform to Claude and ChatGPT. Plugins also bring the tools into Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro.
Can I get a Data Processing Agreement?
Yes. Users on Individual, Business and Teams plans can request one by writing to rpd@magnific.com with their account details and the service contracted. The same address is used to exercise data protection rights.
What happens to the files I upload?
Images and audio files are deleted immediately after the synthetic content based on them has been generated. Prompts and outputs are kept for the duration of the contract, then blocked during the statutory limitation period. Third-party model providers keep personal data for a maximum of thirty days after generation.
Conclusion

Should you pick Magnific?

Magnific is no longer the standalone upscaler that made the name famous. Since Freepik renamed its entire platform in April 2026, the label covers a full creative suite: image, video, audio and 3D generation, editing tools, a node-based collaborative canvas and a stock library of more than 250 million assets. The upscaler is still there, and still excellent, but it is now one tool among thirty rather than the product itself.

The central argument is consolidation. Instead of paying separately for a dozen generative models, a team gets Veo, Kling, Seedream, Flux, GPT Image, ElevenLabs and the rest behind one interface, one credit balance and one commercial licence. For agencies and in-house creative teams producing at volume, that is a real simplification, and the compliance posture is unusually solid for the category: a Spanish controller, a DPA on request, Standard Contractual Clauses, ISO/IEC 27001 and SOC 2 claims, and a written promise never to train on customer uploads.

The reservations are mostly economic and transparency-related. Credit consumption varies by model, resolution and duration, which makes budgeting genuinely difficult before you have run a month of real work. The jump from Premium at EUR 12 per month to Pro at EUR 172.50 leaves little room for mid-sized needs. The free plan is useful for evaluation but personal-use only. And procurement teams will notice that neither the subprocessor list nor the hosting countries are published, only available on request or not at all.

Anyone arriving from the old magnific.ai should know that the legacy service still runs for existing accounts but accepts no new ones. Everything now starts at magnific.com.
