Markopolo AI
Markopolo AI is an agent-led customer engagement platform for ecommerce and D2C brands. It gives every shopper an individual AI agent and orchestrates email, SMS, WhatsApp, push and AI voice calls from a single platform.
What is Markopolo AI?
Markopolo AI is a customer engagement platform built for ecommerce, retail and D2C brands, and its central claim is architectural rather than cosmetic. Instead of sorting shoppers into segments, it spins up an individual AI agent for every visitor. Each agent watches one person, predicts what that person will do next, and decides on its own which message to send, when, and through which channel.
The engine behind this is Athena, a proprietary model the company describes as a Large Event Model and says topped the OPeRA benchmark. A sub-1MB Edge AI runs inside the visitor's own browser and reads roughly 384 behavioural dimensions, from mouse movement and scroll depth to hesitation points, zooming and micro-interactions, to forecast the next action 10 to 30 seconds ahead with a stated accuracy of 37-91% and a 3ms response time. Collection runs through MarkTag, a cookieless first-party tag that doubles as a composable customer data platform.
Five channels are orchestrated natively: email (AutoSend), SMS (MarkSMS), WhatsApp, push notifications and AI voice calls, with iMessage and RCS announced for Q1 2026. Three recovery mechanics sit on top, covering browse, cart and checkout abandonment, all running without manual workflows or A/B testing. Around them the platform adds anonymous visitor identification, unified cross-channel profiles, a predictive engine scoring likelihood to convert or churn, GenAI dynamic content, product recommendations, and reporting with revenue attribution.
Installation is deliberately minimal, a single line of JavaScript or a one-click install for Shopify stores, and a Partners API lets ecommerce platforms and website builders embed MarkTag for their own merchants.
The company publishes bold numbers: up to 47% cart recovery against a roughly 10% baseline, an 11x revenue multiplier, 10 million personalisations per second, 800+ brands served. None of these figures are sourced or independently audited, and the headline channels, WhatsApp, push and voice, appear only in the quote-only Custom plan.
What it does

- Write and speak to customers natively in more than 50 languages
When to use Markopolo AI / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if Markopolo AI is the right fit.
When to use Markopolo AI
- Shopify and D2C stores losing revenue to abandoned browsing, carts and checkouts
- Conversion rate optimisation managers and heads of marketing at growing ecommerce brands
- Founder-led teams running lifecycle marketing with little or no in-house headcount
- Brands selling across several countries who need messages adapted to local languages and dialects
- Ecommerce platforms and website builders wanting to embed behavioural tracking through the Partners API
When not to use Markopolo AI
- Consumers and private individuals: the terms restrict the service to business and professional users only
- B2B companies with long sales cycles, since every feature is built around the online shopper's journey
- Sites with too little traffic for behavioural prediction to have anything meaningful to learn from
- Businesses selling only offline or inside closed marketplaces, where the MarkTag script cannot be installed
- Teams that need WhatsApp, push or AI voice on a published budget, as those channels sit only in the quote-only Custom plan
How to use Markopolo AI
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Create a free account on the Markopolo AI signup page, with no credit card required
- On Shopify, install the Markopolo AI app from the Shopify App Store for a one-click setup
- Otherwise drop the single MarkTag JavaScript line into your site, which the vendor times at 60 seconds
- Wire MarkTag to your cookie banner, since tracking only starts once consent has been granted
- Connect your CRM to sync existing customer profiles, included from the free plan onwards
- Let the agents observe: they begin collecting behavioural events immediately
- Switch on the channels your plan covers, email and SMS from the free tier, WhatsApp, push and voice on Custom
- Let the browse, cart and checkout recovery flows run without writing rules or building segments
- Track conversion, average order value, email and SMS click-through and attributed revenue in the dashboard
- Ask the team to migrate your data, audiences, automations and campaigns from a previous platform at no cost
Pros & Cons
Pros
- A genuinely equipped free tier: one million MarkTag events, 5,000 AI emails, 50 SMS, cart recovery and CRM sync, with no card required
- Low paid entry point for the category at USD 49 per month, with a 30-day free trial
- Five native channels inside one platform rather than a stack of bolted-together tools
- Setup is genuinely light: one line of JavaScript, or a one-click install on Shopify
- Edge processing inside the visitor's browser, which serves as both a latency and a privacy argument
- An unusually explicit privacy posture: anonymous by default, consent off by default, documented export and erasure endpoints
- Migration from a competing platform is carried out by the vendor's team at no cost
Cons
- Every performance figure, from 47% cart recovery to an 11x revenue multiplier, is vendor-stated with no published methodology
- The most distinctive channels, WhatsApp, push and AI voice, are absent from Starter, Growth and Pro and sit only in the quote-only Custom plan
- The terms of service still describe a Facebook and Google Ads management product, unrelated to the platform sold today
- The contact page is an unedited template: a San Francisco address with an invalid postcode, a mailto pointing at purply@example.com and a placeholder phone number
- The site's own demo store link returns a 404, and the app and API run on beta and alpha subdomains
- SOC 2 Type II is claimed once, inside an FAQ answer, with no trust portal or attestation behind it
- No subprocessor list, no named hosting country and no documented way to keep your data out of model training
Pricing & Plans
A permanent free plan is available at USD 0 per month, with no credit card required. The cheapest paid tier is Growth at USD 49 per month, and a 30-day free trial is offered on the paid plans.

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how Markopolo AI handles your data.
GDPR overview
Implementation is unusually concrete. A dedicated GDPR page, last updated 22 November 2025, sets out an anonymous-first architecture: sessions carry anonymous identifiers, no personal data is captured automatically, and tracking starts only once the client calls consent(true), consent being off by default. The privacy policy of the same date states it is designed to comply with the GDPR, names its legal bases (contract, consent, legitimate interests, legal obligation) and cites Articles 5.1.a to 5.1.f. Data subject rights come with working endpoints for access, rectification, erasure, portability and objection; erasure deletes the user record and anonymises historical events. Transfers outside the EEA rely on Standard Contractual Clauses. Contacts are dpo@markopolo.ai and compliance@markopolo.ai. Two gaps remain: no Article 27 EU representative is named, and no subprocessor list is published.
Who owns the data?
Ownership stays with the customer. The terms state that you retain all right, title and interest in the content you upload, and that Markopolo may use it only to provide, support and improve its services. The company also says it neither uses nor controls the personal data you process through the platform: it supplies the tooling, and you remain accountable under data protection law. The privacy policy splits the roles accordingly, with Markopolo acting as controller for its own site and accounts and as processor for data handled on behalf of clients, who stay controllers. One clause runs the other way: any feedback you send is licensed to Markopolo perpetually, irrevocably and royalty-free.
Reuse rights
You can reuse your own data freely. Nothing in the terms restricts what you do with the content you brought in, and the GDPR page documents a JSON export endpoint alongside a deletion route, with deletion also available by writing to support. The restrictions run in the other direction, on how you may use the platform itself: you must not push non-public information or sensitive personal data through it, resell or transfer your account, reverse-engineer the service, scrape it with robots or crawlers, or use it to build a competing product. Access is granted as a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right.

Hosting summary
Markopolo names no hosting country and no hosting region. The privacy policy states only that the company may process data on servers located in different jurisdictions, and the GDPR page mentions edge and regional processing options to support data residency needs without detailing a single one. What is documented is the protection around the transfer rather than its destination: personal data leaving the EEA, the United Kingdom or Switzerland is covered by Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, or by other lawful transfer mechanisms. Encryption is specified, with AES-256-GCM at rest and TLS 1.3 in transit, alongside JWT authentication, role-based access control and immutable audit logs. For predictions the Edge AI runs inside the visitor's browser, so that processing can stay on the device. Legally the company is incorporated in Wyoming and disputes are governed by Delaware law. A DNS lookup on the domain resolves to an Amazon anycast node in Amsterdam, but that is a content delivery edge and says nothing about where customer data actually lives. Anyone with a data residency requirement will need to raise it with the vendor directly.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Markopolo AI.
- The engine acts on hesitation, hovering and dwell time; the line between helpful timing and pressuring a wavering shopper is thin, and you are the one who sets it
- AI voice calls are marketed as sounding entirely human, so recipients may not realise they are talking to a machine, which raises disclosure duties in several jurisdictions
- Identifying anonymous visitors shifts a real consent burden onto you: the design is consent-off by default, but the banner and the records remain your responsibility
- SMS, WhatsApp and voice are high-intrusion channels, and over-sending draws complaints, opt-outs and regulatory attention far faster than email does
- Full automation can hollow out a team's own understanding of its customers, and if the model drifts nobody may notice for a while
- Buying on unaudited numbers is a risk in itself, since the published multiples are vendor claims rather than measured outcomes
- No documented way to exclude your data from model training, no subprocessor list and no named hosting country leaves a blind spot in any vendor risk assessment
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Low for everyday marketing use. Shopify stores install an app in one click, and everyone else pastes a single MarkTag JavaScript line, which the vendor times at 60 seconds. The site states that no technical team, no segments and no rules are required, and the journey builder is drag-and-drop. Two items still need attention: MarkTag must be wired to your consent banner, since tracking only starts once consent has been granted, and the CRM connection has to be configured. The only genuinely technical path is the Partners API, which involves bearer tokens and a CNAME record.

Should you pick Markopolo AI?
Markopolo AI makes a sharper promise than most of its category: not better segmentation, but no segmentation at all, with one AI agent per shopper deciding channel, timing and content on its own. For a small ecommerce team the practical appeal is real. The free Starter plan is genuinely equipped rather than decorative, the paid entry point sits at USD 49 per month, setup is a single line of JavaScript or a one-click Shopify install, and migration from a competitor is handled by the vendor at no cost. The privacy posture is also more concrete than the category norm: anonymous by default, consent off by default, and documented endpoints for export and erasure.
The reservations are equally concrete. Every performance figure on the site, from 47% cart recovery to an 11x revenue multiplier, is self-reported and unsourced. The channels the marketing leans on hardest, WhatsApp, push notifications and AI voice calls, are absent from all three published tiers and appear only in the quote-only Custom plan, which makes the USD 49 entry point less representative than it looks. The site also shows its seams: terms of service that still describe a Facebook and Google Ads product, a contact page left on its template defaults, a broken demo link, beta and alpha subdomains for the app and the API, and a SOC 2 Type II claim living inside a single FAQ answer.
The sensible route is the one the pricing page already offers. Run the free plan against a real store, measure recovered carts yourself rather than trusting the published multiples, and open a commercial conversation only once WhatsApp or voice becomes necessary. Verify the security and contractual claims directly with the vendor before signing.
