Memara is a hosted memory layer for AI agents and automation workflows. It stores tagged memories inside isolated spaces, retrieves them through semantic search, and plugs into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, n8n and Zapier.
What is Memara?
Memara is a hosted memory layer that sits between your AI tools and the context they keep forgetting. Its own pitch is blunt: give your AI perfect memory. The problem it targets is familiar to anyone building with language models, namely that assistants and agents lose everything between sessions, and that developers end up rebuilding the same memory plumbing for every project.
The data model is deliberately simple. The unit is a memory, a piece of text carrying tags, metadata, a timestamp, a source and an importance level. Memories live inside memory spaces, which keep contexts apart, one per project, team or client. Retrieval is semantic rather than keyword-based, so you ask in plain language and Memara returns what is meaningfully related across the whole space.
The product splits into two interfaces. The Dashboard handles the account, billing, settings, analytics and integration management. The Memory Workspace is where memories are created, searched and organised, and it carries the Memory Map, a proximity view that flags orphans, hubs and near-duplicates.
Access routes matter more than the interface here, because Memara is API-first. There is a REST API on api.memara.io, an official Python SDK on PyPI installed with pip install memara, an MCP server, a published n8n community node exposing five operations, and an open-source Dify plugin. A setup wizard, run with npx @memaraio/wizard, installs the MCP server and a memara-memory skill for Cursor and Claude Code, while Claude Desktop takes a downloadable zip.
Eighteen integrations sit in the catalogue and eleven are live, including Claude, Custom GPT Actions, Cursor, Zapier, n8n, Dify, a Chrome extension, X bookmarks import and WhatsApp. The remainder, among them Slack, Microsoft Teams, Notion and GitHub, are announced but not shipped.
The architecture claims multi-tenant isolation, encryption in transit and at rest, and a security-by-design stance. Text works fully today, audio is in beta on paid plans, and image and video remain on the roadmap. Memara is published by EcoImpact Ventures Inc., a small remote-first company based in Riverdale, Maryland.

GDPR overview
Memara advertises GDPR compliance in its footer badge and claims GDPR and CCPA compliance on its enterprise material, but the implementation stops short of full documentation. Concrete measures do exist: users can access, export, update and delete their data, request portability, adjust retention settings and opt out of marketing communications. International transfers are covered by standard contractual clauses, and the company undertakes to work only with providers meeting adequate protection standards. What is missing matters for a European buyer. No Article 27 EU representative is named, no data protection officer is designated, no data processing agreement is published or offered on request, and no subprocessor list appears anywhere. The privacy policy itself dates from 21 January 2025, more than a year before the current terms.
Who owns the data?
Memara's terms state that you keep the rights to everything you submit, which they call Customer Content. You grant the company a non-exclusive licence to host, process, transmit and display that content, but only as far as needed to run and improve the service, enforce the terms and comply with the law. You must also warrant that you hold the rights to whatever you upload. Memara and its licensors retain ownership of the service itself, its software, branding and documentation. In practice, ownership stays with the customer while the vendor holds an operational licence limited to delivering the product.
Reuse rights
Because you retain your rights to Customer Content, you can reuse, export and redistribute your own memories freely, without asking Memara for permission. The privacy policy backs this with concrete controls: view and export your data, update your account, delete individual memories or entire spaces, request portability and close your account outright. The licence you grant runs one way only, and it is capped at hosting, processing, transmitting and displaying your content in order to operate the service. What you may not do is resell or redistribute Memara itself without a written agreement, nor use the product to build a competing offering by misusing its proprietary assets.

Hosting summary
Memara names no hosting country and no hosting region. The privacy policy states only that data may be processed in countries other than your own, under standard contractual clauses and with providers said to maintain adequate data protection standards. Around that sit generic assurances: SOC 2 compliant cloud infrastructure, encryption in transit and at rest, multi-tenant data isolation, regular backups with disaster recovery, and network monitoring. Multi-region deployment and data residency controls appear as enterprise selling points rather than as statements about where your data actually lives. Technical traces point to a Supabase backend behind Cloudflare, but the publisher never confirms this, so it cannot be read as an official location. The governing law is that of the State of Maryland in the United States, and Maryland courts hold exclusive jurisdiction. For a European buyer, the jurisdiction is therefore clear while the physical hosting is not.

Difficulty depends on the route. No-code users connect the official n8n node, Zapier or the Chrome extension in minutes, and the site claims roughly three minutes per integration. Developers need an API key and one environment variable, then call the REST API or the Python SDK. Agent users run a single command, npx @memaraio/wizard, for Cursor and Claude Code, while Claude Desktop requires importing a zip by hand. One rule applies to everyone: create a memory space first. Memara answers a real and well-defined problem: AI assistants forget, and developers keep rebuilding the same memory plumbing. Its response is coherent, with memories organised into isolated spaces, semantic retrieval, and an API-first design reachable through REST, a Python SDK, an MCP server and an official n8n node. For a product whose domain was only registered in May 2025, that delivery is genuinely broad, and the commercial terms are among the most approachable in the category: unlimited memories on a permanent free plan, then USD 9 per month.
The reservations are just as clear. More than half the advertised integrations are still announcements, the documentation hub is largely marked coming soon, and the compliance story does not survive close reading. A SOC 2 Type II badge and a 99.9% uptime SLA sit in the footer with nothing published behind them, while the privacy policy itself only claims SOC 2 compliant cloud infrastructure, which is a different statement. There is no data processing agreement, no subprocessor list, no declared hosting country and no Article 27 EU representative, even though the publisher is American and advertises GDPR compliance. The privacy policy also predates the current terms by more than a year, and the trial messaging contradicts the published price list.
The practical reading is therefore split. For an individual developer, a small team or a prototype, Memara is an easy and inexpensive way to add durable memory to agents and workflows, and its own documentation is refreshingly honest about what it does not do. For a European enterprise purchase, the paperwork is not yet there, and the questions that matter most, on hosting location, subprocessors and model training, remain unanswered on the site.
