What is Gemora?
Gemora is an AI teaching assistant published in Denmark and aimed squarely at gymnasium teachers, the upper-secondary level covering roughly ages 16 to 19. Its positioning line, Det Intelligente Klasseværelse or the intelligent classroom, sets the tone: rather than another general-purpose chatbot, this is a workbench tuned to Danish subject standards, to Ministry of Children and Education guidance and to the Danish 7-point grading scale.
The product is organised around three modules. Gemora Chat is an AI assistant backed by a knowledge base and, from the Pro tier upwards, web search. AI Feedback produces written comments on student work together with a suggested grade. Elevanalyse looks at progression over time, flags students who are falling behind and generates reports that can serve as the basis for a conversation with a student or a parent. Inside the application these surface as further workspaces: Værksted, Lab, Opgaver, Grading, Evaluering, Viden, Elever and Elevanalyse.
Coverage is the striking part. More than fifty dedicated subject pages span Danish, English, mathematics, history, social studies, biology, physics, chemistry, philosophy, religion, psychology, media studies, music, visual arts, drama, sport, Latin, Greek and classical studies, twelve modern or classical languages, the HHX commercial subjects (marketing, business economics, international economics, finance, business law, market communication) and the HTX technical subjects (technology, engineering subjects, programming, materials technology, design). Separate pages address the STX, HHX, HTX, HF and EUX programmes.
Gemora deliberately does not depend on the school's existing systems: teachers upload PDFs, Word files or photographs directly. A Vidensbase holds curricula and reference material, 500 MB on Pro and 5 GB on Ultra, absent from the free tier, while AI credits run from 2,000 a month on Gratis to 20,000 on Pro and unmetered on Ultra. Everything runs in the browser, on a computer, tablet or phone, with nothing to install.
The publisher names its subprocessors: Supabase for database and authentication (EU, Frankfurt), Google Gemini for AI processing (London, United Kingdom), Stripe for payments (EU, Ireland) and PostHog for analytics (EU). The company was founded by Laurits Bønsvig Wehding and says the product was built and classroom-tested in a feedback loop with practising teachers.

GDPR overview
Gemora states plainly that it is GDPR-compliant and displays 'GDPR Compliant' and 'Hosted in EU' badges on its marketing pages, presenting itself as a Danish company bound by the GDPR and by Danish data protection law. The policy enumerates rights article by article: access (15), rectification (16), erasure (17), restriction (18), portability (20) and objection (21). They are exercised in self-service inside the application, under Indstillinger then Data & Privatliv (GDPR), and the company commits to answering any request within 30 days, with the operations logged. A data processing agreement is published at /databehandleraftale rather than only supplied on request, and any change of subprocessor is notified 30 days in advance. Complaints are directed to Datatilsynet, the Danish supervisory authority. No Article 27 representative is named, which is consistent with a publisher established in the EU.
Who owns the data?
Under the terms of service, you keep every right to the content you upload; uploading simply grants Gemora a limited licence to process and display that content as part of the service. Gemora retains the rights to the platform itself, meaning its design, code, trademarks and documentation. Responsibility is split under the GDPR: when a teacher or a school handles student information through the tool, that teacher or school acts as the data controller and Gemora acts as the processor. Users must warrant that they hold the rights to whatever they upload, and the terms explicitly warn against uploading entire copyrighted books or articles.
Reuse rights
The privacy policy lists the purposes for which data is processed: delivering and improving the service, managing accounts and subscriptions, sending service updates, providing support, analysing usage and meeting legal obligations. Three categories are collected: account details (name, email, hashed password, optional school), usage data (class names, student names, submitted papers, AI conversations and assessments, knowledge-base documents) and technical data (IP address, browser, timestamps, pages viewed). AI processing runs through Google Gemini, so prompts leave for Google, which according to the policy does not retain data from those API calls for training; student data is anonymised before AI processing where possible. Gemora logs AI interactions to improve its own services, states that student data is never used to train AI models, and states that personal data is never sold to third parties.

Gemora's marketing claims European hosting, with a 'Hosted in EU' badge and a reference to EU-based infrastructure listed among its security measures. The data processing agreement is more precise and lists four subprocessors with their locations: Supabase for database and authentication in the EU (Frankfurt), Google LLC (Gemini) for AI processing in London, United Kingdom, Stripe for payments in the EU (Ireland), and PostHog for analytics in the EU. The London placement deserves attention, because it is in Europe but outside the European Union, so the blanket EU-hosting claim is not exact for the AI layer. Any change of subprocessor is notified by email 30 days in advance. The security measures described include encryption in transit (TLS/SSL), encryption of sensitive data at rest, access control, audit logging, automated purging and restricted employee access. - European hosting is claimed on the marketing pages, but the subprocessor table places AI processing with Google in London. The United Kingdom is in Europe yet outside the EU, which matters if your school's own compliance position requires EU-only processing.
- The technology page shows GPT-4o and Claude in a diagram, while the privacy policy and the data processing agreement name only Google Gemini as the AI engine. The site never reconciles the two statements.
- The free plan's monthly credit allowance appears as 200 credits in one place and 2,000 in another; only the second figure comes from the plan table that feeds the payment flow.
- Suggested grades are described in the terms as indicative and not final. Accepting machine feedback repeatedly without editing it erodes a teacher's own judgement, and the teacher, not the tool, stays accountable for every decision taken.
- The teacher or the school is the data controller for student data: obtaining consent, informing families and handling deletion requests are your obligations, not Gemora's. Liability is capped at the amounts paid over the preceding twelve months, with no indirect damages covered.
- Do not upload entire copyrighted books or articles; the terms warn against it explicitly. Note too that non-training on student data is a default regime rather than a switch you can operate, as no user-facing opt-out is documented.

Very low. There is nothing to install and no system configuration: Gemora runs entirely in the browser, on a computer, tablet or phone. Getting started takes an email address and a plan choice, and Google sign-up is available. Because the tool works independently of the school's existing systems, there is no integration to configure and no IT involvement needed. The only real onboarding work is pedagogical: creating a class and uploading curricula into the Vidensbase so answers stay anchored to your syllabus. A gymnasium teacher in Denmark gets something genuinely useful: a whole class marked in one upload, feedback written against fagmål and Ministry guidance, grades proposed on the 7-point scale, and more than fifty subject pages that show real curricular homework. A teacher outside the Danish system will find nothing usable here, since the interface exists only in Danish.
The data hygiene is above average for a publisher this size: subprocessors named and located, a data processing agreement published rather than merely promised, GDPR rights exercised in self-service inside the app, and a plain commitment that student work never trains an AI model.
The reservations are real.
