Dexa
Dexa is a free AI answer engine for expert podcasts. Ask a question in plain language and get an answer built from what trusted experts actually said, with citations, speaker attribution and the timestamp inside the episode.
What is Dexa?
Dexa is an AI search and answer engine built on expert podcast content. You type a question in plain language, and Dexa answers using what podcast hosts and guests have actually said, attaching citations, the name of the speaker and the moment in the episode where the statement was made. The company describes indexing, analyzing and transcribing every conversation with enough precision to tell users exactly who was speaking, what they said and when in the episode they said it.
The origin story is documented on the site. Founder Riley Tomasek finished a Huberman Lab episode, could not find the magnesium dosage that had been recommended, and built a search tool over the show's episodes. He posted it on X in December 2022, Andrew Huberman reshared it, and the prototype — then called Huberman AI — drew around 500,000 views in a week before becoming Dexa.
Each expert or show gets a dedicated hub on its own URL, such as /hubermanlab, /bankless or /thegame. The about page presents 27 hubs, covering health and neuroscience (Huberman Lab, FoundMyFitness, The Dr. Hyman Show, Rena Malik, Perform with Andy Galpin), fitness (Mind Pump), business and personal finance (Alex Hormozi's The Game, Bankless, ChooseFI, The Prof G Pod), marketing (Akimbo, by Seth Godin) and personal development (Tom Bilyeu's Impact Theory, School of Greatness, Jordan Harbinger). The sitemap exposes 10,027 URLs, made of hubs, clips and shared answers.
At its September 2023 seed announcement the company claimed more than 50,000 monthly visitors and close to one million questions answered in the nine months since launch, alongside an exclusive partnership with Huberman Lab that also runs as a white-label deployment at ai.hubermanlab.com. Its stated differentiator is that answers rest on what human experts have actually said, with citations and direct links to the source, rather than on a synthesis of web pages.
For creators, Dexa turns a back catalog into a searchable knowledge base, with shareable clips, recommendations and an analytics dashboard showing which topics resonate with listeners.
The publisher is Dexa AI, Inc., and the footer credits “Built by Charlie AI”. The scope is narrow by design: a web product only, with no public API, no mobile app, and answers limited to the indexed partner catalog rather than the open web. The service is free today under the terms of service.
What it does
- Ask a question in plain language and receive an answer sourced from expert podcast episodes
- Trace every claim back to the exact clip: who was speaking, what they said, and when in the episode
- Ask follow-up questions in a conversational interface to narrow an answer down
- Play the referenced audio and video clips without leaving the conversation
- Browse dedicated expert hubs and discover new podcasts, clips and people
- Share an answer through its own dedicated URL
- As a podcaster, make a back catalog searchable 24/7 and read a dashboard of the topics that resonate with the audience
When to use Dexa / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if Dexa is the right fit.
When to use Dexa
- Podcast listeners trying to find one precise piece of advice buried in a three-hour episode, without scrubbing through the audio again
- Health, fitness and nutrition followers who want to know what experts such as Andrew Huberman actually said about a protocol, dosage or habit
- Founders, marketers and product people looking for practical guidance from business, personal finance and marketing shows rather than news or raw facts
- Podcasters and show teams who want their back catalog searchable around the clock and a dashboard of the topics their audience keeps asking about
- Students, coaches and self-learners who prefer an answer they can trace to a named speaker and a timestamp they can check for themselves
When not to use Dexa
- Anyone needing general web or news search: Dexa only answers from the partner podcasts it has indexed, never from the open web
- Developers who want to embed the engine in their own product: there is no public API and no developer documentation
- Mobile-first users: no iOS or Android application exists, the product is a web app only
- Teams with a commercial use case: the terms restrict use to internal, personal, non-commercial purposes and forbid crawling or scraping
- Non-English audiences and organizations that require a GDPR framework: no other language is documented, and the privacy policy rests on US state law alone
How to use Dexa
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Open the Dexa website in any browser — there is nothing to install and nothing to configure
- Type your question on the home page, or pick an expert hub first and question that show directly
- Read the answer and check its citations: each one names the speaker and points to the moment in the episode
- Play the referenced clip in place to hear the full context around the quoted passage
- Ask follow-up questions in the same conversation to narrow the answer down
- Create a free account with the “Join Dexa” button when you want personalized summaries, clips and recommendations
- Sign in through a third-party account if you prefer — the terms cite Google, Facebook and Twitter as examples
- Share an answer with its dedicated URL, or browse the hubs to discover other shows
- Podcasters: start from the “Dexa for podcasters” page and use the same “Join Dexa” entry point
- Reach support through team@dexa.ai or the third-party help center linked in the footer
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Free with no paywall today, and usable straight away without an account
- Traceable answers: every claim carries a citation, a named speaker and a timestamp you can verify yourself
- Solves a genuine weakness of the podcast format — there is no way to search inside a multi-hour episode
- Catalog of recognized experts, including an exclusive partnership with the leading health podcast, Huberman Lab
- Nothing to install, no setup and no technical skill required
- Value on both sides: listeners find advice again, creators make their catalog searchable and gain audience analytics
- Funded company: a 6 million USD seed round led by identified investors
Cons
- No pricing page at all: free access rests on a single sentence of the terms, which expressly reserve the right to charge later
- The corpus is limited to indexed partner podcasts — outside that catalog, Dexa has nothing to answer from
- No public API and no developer documentation, and no iOS or Android application
- English only: no other interface or processing language is documented anywhere
- Privacy framework is exclusively American: no GDPR, no Article 27 representative, no DPA, no named sub-processors, no declared hosting country
- No published position on training models with customer data, no opt-out, and no security certification claimed (SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA)
- Vitality signals worth watching: copyright frozen at 2024, last press mention dated November 2024, and the publishing team now promotes a different product under the Charlie Labs brand
Pricing & Plans
Dexa is provided free of charge: there is a free plan and no paid tier. No pricing page exists on the site — /pricing returns a 404, and none of the 10,027 URLs listed in the sitemap is a pricing page — and no amount, currency or billing period is published anywhere. The terms of service state that the Services are currently free, while expressly reserving the right to charge for certain or all Services in the future, with prior notice before any service a user is then using begins carrying a fee. No free trial is offered, the notion being without object where the entire service is free of charge.
- Free access — a single level of service
- with no named plan
- no feature comparison and no announced enterprise offer. The only observable distinction is between anonymous use
- which is possible
- and a free account (“Join Dexa”) that adds personalization. Podcasters enter through the same free sign-up
- and no creator pricing is published.
Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how Dexa handles your data.
GDPR overview
There is no GDPR implementation to report. A targeted search of the terms and the privacy policy returns zero occurrences of GDPR, EEA, European Union, data protection officer or Article 27: the subject is simply never addressed. The framework is American and state-based — CCPA for California, VCDPA for Virginia, plus the California direct-marketing disclosure right (Civil Code 1798.83-1798.84) and the Nevada opt-out from the sale of personal data, all exercised through one channel, team@dexa.ai. COPPA applies below the age of 13. The policy, effective 20 December 2023, describes security only in general terms and claims no certification. No EU representative, no data protection officer, no data processing agreement, no named sub-processors and no hosting country are published. European users should treat Dexa as a US service with no European compliance layer.
Who owns the data?
The terms state plainly that Dexa owns the Services, and that the content reachable through them is protected by copyright and other intellectual property rights. Users receive only a worldwide, non-exclusive, non-sublicensable, non-transferable license to download and display that content locally in order to use the Services; any reproduction, modification, distribution, storage or commercial exploitation requires prior written permission. You remain responsible for every piece of content you contribute and warrant that you hold the rights to do so. The privacy policy adds that, in a merger, acquisition or bankruptcy, your personal data may be transferred to the acquirer, with reasonable efforts to notify you beforehand. Deleting your account may destroy the content attached to it.
Reuse rights
Reusing Dexa's content without permission is not allowed: the license granted covers local viewing only, and the terms expressly prohibit crawling, scraping or storing a significant part of the content. On the collection side, the privacy policy lists identity and contact details (name, email), device and IP data, web analytics (interactions, referring page, browsing or search history), social account data when you sign in through a third party, location inferred from your IP address, inferences about your preferences, behavior and aptitudes, and anything you volunteer such as the content of an email or a phone number. This data serves to deliver and personalize the service, provide support, run testing, research, internal analytics and product development, market and sell the Services, correspond with you, and meet legal obligations. Sharing is described by category only — service providers (hosting, technology, communication), analytics partners, business partners, and any party you authorize through a social account — with Google, for Google Analytics, the single third party named. The policy warns that, depending on applicable state laws, some of these disclosures may constitute a “sale” of personal data, and that aggregated or anonymized data may also be shared. Dexa commits to notifying users before collecting new categories of data or using them in a materially different way. Nothing in the documents says whether customer data is used to train AI models.

Hosting summary
No hosting country or region is declared. Neither the privacy policy nor the terms of service state where personal data is stored, and no other page on the site does either. The privacy policy names only categories of recipients — hosting, technology and communication providers, analytics partners, business partners — with Google, for Google Analytics, the single third party identified by name. No data processing agreement, no list of sub-processors and no hosting certification is published. The jurisdiction that emerges from the documents is American: California law governs the terms, disputes go to arbitration in San Francisco, and the privacy rights offered come from CCPA, VCDPA and Nevada and California state law. Two technical observations made outside anything the site declares settle nothing: the domain resolves to 104.18.20.24, a Cloudflare anycast node that says nothing about where data is stored, and the careers page mentions GCP, Qdrant and Cloudflare in the engineering stack, in a recruitment context with no indication of data location. European users should assume US processing with no documented transfer mechanism.

Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Dexa.
- Free access is not guaranteed: the terms expressly reserve the right to charge for certain or all Services in the future
- No warranty on what comes out: the Services and Content are delivered “AS-IS”, with no representation or warranty on outputs, so an answer relays the opinion of a podcast guest rather than verified medical or financial advice
- A cognitive trap comes with the convenience: a cited 20-second clip is easy to mistake for a full answer, and one expert's opinion for settled fact — listen to the surrounding context before acting on it, and do not let the tool replace the reading you would otherwise do
- Liability is capped at 100 USD in total, disputes go to individual arbitration in San Francisco under JAMS rules with a jury and class-action waiver (an arbitration opt-out clause is provided), and California law plus the Federal Arbitration Act govern
- No GDPR layer of any kind: no Article 27 representative, no data protection officer, no data processing agreement, no named sub-processors, and no declared data hosting country or region
- Nothing is published about whether your data trains models, and no opt-out exists; the privacy policy also warns that, under some state laws, certain disclosures may constitute a “sale” of personal data
- Contractual use is limited to personal, non-commercial purposes and crawling or scraping is forbidden; the company publishes no postal address, no official brand social account, and its contact addresses only in obfuscated form
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Very easy. Dexa is a web application reached straight from a browser: nothing to install, nothing to set up, no integration to connect. You can start asking questions without an account; a free account, opened through “Join Dexa”, is optional and only adds personalization, and signing in through a third-party account is possible (the terms cite Google, Facebook and Twitter as examples). No technical skill is required on the listener side. On the creator side, the onboarding path is not documented publicly beyond the same “Join Dexa” button.

Should you pick Dexa?
Dexa does one thing and does it clearly: it searches inside expert podcasts and returns an answer built from what those experts actually said. Its strongest asset is traceability — each answer names the speaker, points to the moment in the episode and links back to the source — and it costs nothing today.
Its weakest point is opacity of a contractual and legal kind. No price is published, so free access rests on a single sentence of the terms that expressly reserves the right to charge later. No GDPR framework is mentioned anywhere: the privacy policy is built on California, Virginia and Nevada law. No position is taken on whether customer data trains models, and no opt-out is documented. No postal address is published, liability is capped at 100 USD, and use is contractually limited to personal, non-commercial purposes.
The 6 million USD seed round of September 2023 and the exclusive Huberman Lab partnership show real traction across 2023 and 2024. Three signals nevertheless deserve attention before you rely on the tool: the footer copyright is frozen at 2024, the most recent press mention dates from November 2024, and the publishing team is now visibly pushing an unrelated product under the Charlie Labs brand.
Our practical verdict: Dexa is excellent for finding what an expert said and checking it at the source, above all in health, fitness, business and personal finance. It is a starting point rather than an authority — answers relay the opinions of podcast guests, and the terms disclaim any warranty on outputs. Do not make it your only source for a health or money decision.
