Overview

What is Nuvio?

Nuvio is a finance operations platform aimed at founders and small business owners who keep the books themselves. Published by Nuvio Labs Inc., it sets out to replace what its homepage calls the usual arrangement: a spreadsheet already out of date, a handful of banking apps and an accountant who answers next week.

Four pieces make up the product. Bank connections come first, with accounts linked through Plaid, transactions arriving continuously and each one reconciled in a single click. Expenses come second: photograph a receipt, upload a PDF, or forward an invoice to a dedicated scanning address, and the AI extracts supplier, date, total and tax into a draft you confirm rather than type. Since version 4.0.1 it also infers tax at line or header level and matches it against your company's tax setup. Invoicing is third, covering creation, sending, payment tracking and automatic reminders on invoices that go quiet. Cash flow projection is fourth, running up to one year ahead.

Sitting across all four is an always-on AI assistant. You ask in plain language what was spent on software last quarter, or which customers owe money right now, and it answers with figures drawn from your own records, resolving loose categories such as marketing even when nothing has been tagged. It can also act: the homepage shows it sending a payment reminder on request. Since version 4.0.1 it runs across several AI providers with automatic failover.

Reporting is deliberately pre-built. Profit and loss, revenue by customer, by product and by project are ready on opening, with sparklines and period-over-period changes, on the stated principle that a founder should not have to build pivot tables.

Nuvio runs in the browser at app.nuvio.io and installs as a progressive web app on phone or desktop. A public REST API is available in beta, covering accounts, transactions, expenses, income, payments, products, projects, tags and taxes. Interface and content exist in English and Turkish, with support for Turkish e-invoices. The company is candid about the boundary: it says plainly that it does not replace your accountant, and that it runs the work going forward rather than recording what already happened. Thirteen dated releases between December 2025 and June 2026 show a product under active development.

What it does

  • Connect every bank account, pull in transactions automatically and reconcile each one in a single click
  • Photograph or forward a receipt and let the AI read supplier, date, total, tax and category into a draft
  • Create and send invoices, then let Nuvio chase the ones that go quiet
  • Project cash flow up to a year ahead and spot a tight month while there is still time to act
  • Ask the AI assistant a plain-language question about spending, runway or who currently owes money
  • Open ready-made dashboards for profit and loss and for revenue by customer, product or project
  • Invite teammates and your accountant, each with the role and permissions you assign

When to use Nuvio / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if Nuvio is the right fit.

When to use Nuvio

  • Startup founders keeping the books themselves, with no finance hire yet
  • Small business owners juggling several bank accounts who want one picture that stays current
  • Freelancers and consultants who invoice clients and want late payments chased automatically
  • Project- or product-based businesses that need profitability broken down by project, product or customer
  • Teams that would rather have their external accountant inside the workspace than emailing spreadsheets back and forth

When not to use Nuvio

  • Companies past 2,500 income and expense entries a month, since the Enterprise tier that lifts the cap is still marked coming soon
  • Organisations under a strict GDPR review: the site never mentions the regulation, publishes no processing agreement and names no hosting country
  • Businesses that need payroll, which Nuvio does not run at all
  • Anyone expecting a native iOS or Android app, as mobile access is an installable web app only
  • Teams that need a settled public API today, since Nuvio documents its own as beta with possible breaking changes

  1. Create an account at app.nuvio.io, where no credit card is requested
  2. Set up your company, the first step in Nuvio's help centre guide
  3. Connect your bank accounts through Plaid, or track an account manually if it cannot be linked
  4. Bulk import your existing income and expenses, or follow the published guide for switching from another tool
  5. Add an expense by dragging in a JPG, PNG or PDF of up to 5 MB, or by taking a photo
  6. Alternatively forward supplier invoices by email to your Nuvio scanning address and find them in the Drafts tab
  7. Review what the AI filled in, namely supplier, amount, tax and category, then save the entry
  8. Create and send your first invoice, and leave the reminders on late payers to Nuvio
  9. Invite teammates and your accountant, assigning each a role and permission level
  10. For automation, call the REST API over HTTPS with JSON payloads, bearing in mind that it is still in beta

Trust & Privacy

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how Nuvio handles your data.

GDPR overview

Nuvio never mentions the GDPR. The word appears nowhere on the English-language site, in the homepage, the terms of use, the privacy policy or the cookie policy. This is silence rather than a refusal, which is why the compliance flag reads N: nothing is claimed and nothing is denied. The privacy policy does grant rights that resemble the regulation's, namely access, rectification, erasure, a copy of the data, restriction, objection, portability, withdrawal of consent and complaint to a supervisory authority. It frames them conditionally, depending on the law that applies, and routes them all to legal@nuvio.io. No data protection officer is named, no Article 27 representative in the European Union is designated, and no data processing agreement is published. The only privacy statute the site cites is Turkey's KVKK, and only on its Turkish pages.

Who owns the data?

Nuvio's terms are explicit that customers keep ownership of what they put in: the company states it does not own that data. In exchange, users grant Nuvio Labs Inc. a licence to use, copy, transmit, store, analyse and back up everything submitted, including personal data about other people. That licence covers three stated purposes: enabling the service, improving existing services and creating new ones. Financial records, transaction details, business plans and customer data are separately classed as Confidential Information, protected by encryption and access controls, and disclosed to third parties only where the law compels it or the customer consents.

Reuse rights

Customers may reuse their own financial data freely. Nuvio claims no ownership over it and grants a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the platform for managing and analysing business finances, with bulk import and export both available. Exporting before closing an account is the company's own advice, since it is not obliged to return anything after termination. What customers may not do is resell, lease or sublicense the service, repackage leads or data obtained through it, or reverse-engineer any part of it. On Nuvio's side, submitted data feeds financial tracking, analytics, AI-powered insights and product improvement, while the privacy policy adds support, marketing and targeted advertising, with sharing limited to advertising, analytics and data-processing providers unless consent is given.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
Nuvio's privacy policy keeps personal information for 90 days to two years after an account is closed, or for as long as the original purpose requires. Longer retention is possible for legal record-keeping, enforcing rights or preventing fraud, and anonymised or aggregated data that no longer identifies anyone may be kept indefinitely. The terms add that account data stays available for a reasonable period after termination so a lapsed subscriber can reactivate and reach it again. After termination Nuvio is not obliged to hand anything back, so exporting before leaving is the company's own advice. Deletion requests are pointed at two different addresses: help@nuvio.io in the terms of use, legal@nuvio.io in the privacy policy. That policy took effect on 8 July 2024 and was last updated on 11 November 2025.

Hosting summary

Nuvio does not disclose where customer data is hosted. The terms of use say only that data is stored on secure servers accessible to authorised personnel, backed by industry-standard technical, physical and administrative measures, with encryption and access controls for confidential information. No country, no region, no cloud provider and no subprocessor is ever named, and no certification such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001 is claimed. The Turkish privacy notice adds that data may be transferred to partners inside Turkey and abroad, again without saying where. The contracting entity named in the English terms is Nuvio Labs Inc. of Toronto, placing disputes under the law of Ontario, Canada, which is a jurisdiction rather than a hosting location. The website's own IP address resolves to a Cloudflare anycast node, which says nothing about where application data actually sits. For a platform handling bank feeds and accounting records this is the least documented part of the service, and anyone with a data residency requirement should ask for the details in writing before signing up.

Watch-outs

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Nuvio.

  • Bank feeds and complete accounting records go into a platform that never states which country stores them and publishes no data processing agreement
  • Nothing tells you whether your financial data trains AI models: the licence in the terms is broad enough to allow it and no opt-out is offered
  • Three different legal entities appear across the site, Canadian, Estonian and Turkish, so the party you would actually be contracting with is not clearly established
  • The terms include a sentence copied from another vendor's conditions, which suggests a template not written for Nuvio alone and may not reflect its real practice
  • An assistant that answers a runway question in one line invites decisions taken on a single figure, when that figure is only as good as the categorisation behind it
  • Receipt scanning is advertised at 95% accuracy, meaning roughly one document in twenty is misread, so reviewing each draft before saving is not optional
  • Nuvio states it gives no professional advice of any kind, so treating its dashboards as accounting or tax advice is a misuse its terms explicitly disclaim
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Low for the intended audience. You sign up online with no card, create your company through a guided first step, and connect banks through Plaid in self-service, with manual tracking available for accounts that cannot be linked. Existing history can be bulk imported, and a published guide covers switching from another tool. Nuvio claims no accounting background is needed: if you can read your bank balance, you can run it. Only the API route calls for technical skill, with REST calls, authentication and scopes, and documentation the company itself flags as beta.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a credit card to start the free trial?
No. Nuvio states plainly that it does not ask for card details during the fourteen-day trial. If you do not add billing details by the end of it, access simply stops.
Is there a permanent free plan?
No, all four tiers are paid. Two separate tools are free and need no account at all: an invoice generator and a cash runway calculator.
Does the price depend on how many people use it?
No. The subscription is bought for the company rather than per seat, and you can invite as many users as you need, each with the role and permissions you assign.
Does Nuvio replace my accountant?
No, and the company says so itself. Nuvio handles the day-to-day so you call your accountant when you actually need them, and you can invite that accountant into the workspace from the Starter tier onwards.
Where is my data hosted?
Nuvio does not say. The terms mention only secure servers protected by industry-standard technical, physical and administrative measures, without naming a country, a region or any subprocessor.
Is Nuvio GDPR compliant?
The site never mentions the GDPR, so no compliance is claimed either way. The privacy policy does document access, rectification, erasure and portability rights, exercisable at legal@nuvio.io, and the Turkish pages address Turkey's KVKK law instead.
Is my data used to train AI models?
Nuvio does not say. The licence in its terms covers improving existing services and creating new ones, but training is never named and no opt-out is published.
How long is my data kept after I close my account?
The privacy policy gives 90 days to two years after termination, longer where law requires it. Deletion can be requested at help@nuvio.io according to the terms, or at legal@nuvio.io according to the privacy policy.
Is there a mobile app?
There is no native iOS or Android app. Since version 3.0.0 Nuvio installs as a progressive web app, so you can add it to your home screen on a phone or desktop and open it like any other app.
Is there a discount for startups?
Yes. The startup programme grants 70% off the first year to accepted applicants. Applications are reviewed weekly and questions go to startups@nuvio.io.
Conclusion

Should you pick Nuvio?

Nuvio is a real, actively developed product, and the evidence is easy to check: thirteen dated releases between December 2025 and June 2026, a public API reference, a help centre, published prices with per-tier quotas, and two free tools that work without an account. For a founder or small business owner running the books alone, the proposition is coherent, bringing banking, expenses, invoicing and forecasting into one place at 19 USD a month, with no charge per user and an accountant you can invite in.

The reservations concern the paperwork around the product rather than the product itself. The English site never mentions the GDPR, publishes no data processing agreement, names no subprocessor and never says which country holds the data. Nothing is written about whether customer information trains AI models, and no opt-out exists. For a tool that ingests bank feeds and full accounting records, that is thinner disclosure than the category usually warrants.

The legal identity is equally unsettled. Three company names appear across the same site: Nuvio Labs Inc. in Toronto in the terms and privacy policy, Nuvio OU in two paragraphs of those same terms, and Nuvio Teknoloji Anonim Sirketi in Istanbul on the Turkish privacy notice. The terms also carry a sentence lifted from another vendor's conditions, referring to Xero's systems. Smaller inconsistencies follow the same pattern: contradictory pricing between the monthly and yearly toggles, an English sales link pointing at the Turkish contact page, and a footer still dated 2024.

The fair reading is that the engineering is ahead of the administration. Try it on its merits, but if you are buying from Europe or putting client financial data through it, get the hosting location, the contracting entity and the training position in writing first.
