MindMarks
MindMarks is a browser extension that organizes ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude conversations into folders, tags and auto-generated outlines, then lets you search, reference and export them. Free to install on Chrome, Edge and Firefox.
What is MindMarks?
MindMarks is a browser extension, not a standalone web app. It layers itself on top of the ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Claude Code interfaces without changing the way you talk to the models, and its stated ambition goes beyond a single-site helper: the home page presents it as not just a ChatGPT extension — it's a workspace for organizing AI conversations and knowledge.
The product is built around three moments. Capture imports new chats automatically, across the four supported models, and gathers generated or uploaded images into one gallery. Organize builds an outline from AI-detected headings so that a very long thread becomes navigable, adds tags, folders and subfolders without limit — with custom colors and images — and offers List, Kanban and Map views alongside a minimap-style navigation. Automatic categorization sorts threads by subject, project and context, and conversations held with custom GPTs get folders of their own. An AI-Powered Chat Insights layer produces summaries, pulls out tasks and flags key concepts. Reuse lets you attach past conversations as context for a new one, then export the result to JSON, Markdown or plain text, or to Notion.
The intended audience is stated plainly on the About page: people who rely on AI tools every day — researchers, writers, developers, students, and anyone scrolling back through dozens of messages to find one answer. Installation takes about ten seconds from a browser store and needs no account; an account is only required for the Pro tier. Chrome, Edge and Firefox each have a published extension. The site claims eight core capabilities and around fifty features, and sets itself against 'Typical AI Extensions' in a seven-row comparison table covering organization, prompts, multi-platform support, referencing, content management, knowledge structure and export.
Maturity is worth weighing. The domain was registered on 1 February 2026 and the first Wayback capture dates from 19 May 2026, so this is a very young product. The site itself is a full single-page application generated with base44 and rendered entirely in JavaScript, and no legal entity is published behind it.
What it does

- Bookmark, tag and file conversations into unlimited folders
- Search the whole history, with regex and cross-folder search on the Pro tier
- Reference one or several past conversations as context for a new chat
- Turn a rough idea into a structured prompt in one click
- Collect every generated image into a single gallery
- Export to JSON, Markdown or plain text, or send a conversation to Notion
When to use MindMarks / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if MindMarks is the right fit.
When to use MindMarks
- Heavy daily users of conversational AI, whose chat history has grown too long to scroll through
- Researchers and academics who need to find a specific answer again weeks after the conversation
- Writers and content professionals who reuse past exchanges as raw material for new work
- Developers who move between ChatGPT, Claude and Claude Code and want one place to keep their threads
- Students building a personal knowledge base out of their AI study sessions
When not to use MindMarks
- Mobile-first users: there is no iOS or Android app, only desktop browser extensions
- Anyone needing programmatic access: no public API is offered and none is documented
- Procurement-led organizations that require terms of service, a DPA and a named legal entity before signing
- Compliance-sensitive teams: the site never mentions the GDPR, a retention period or a hosting country
- Users of AI models other than ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Claude Code, the only four platforms covered
How to use MindMarks
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store, the Microsoft Edge add-ons store or addons.mozilla.org
- Start straight away: no account is needed and the site announces installation in about ten seconds
- Open a ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Claude Code conversation — the outline and the side panel attach themselves automatically
- Tag conversations, file them into folders and mark favorites from the panel
- Search the history and reference a past conversation as context for a new chat
- Export a whole thread, the AI answers alone or a selection, to JSON, Markdown or plain text
- To move to Pro, enter your email address and validate the six-digit verification code you receive
- Pay through the Stripe window that opens in a new tab
- Manage the subscription inside the extension: Settings > Manage Subscription > Cancel subscription; Pro access runs until the end of the current period
- Restore an existing subscription on another device by verifying the same email address
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Free and immediately usable, with no account to create
- Covers four AI interfaces — ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Claude Code — instead of one
- Open export in JSON, Markdown and plain text: no lock-in on your own conversations
- Local processing by default, as claimed in the privacy policy
- Three browsers genuinely supported, with three separately published extensions
- Low entry price at USD 9.99 per month, with a 14-day trial and no commitment
- Self-service cancellation from inside the extension
Cons
- No terms of service anywhere on the site: nothing written governs the use of the tool or the subscription
- No company name, no postal address and no named director; the footer stops at 'MindMarks · Chat Organizer · © 2026'
- No mention of the GDPR, no DPA, no Article 27 representative, no retention period and no hosting country
- The privacy policy states that no third-party analytics SDK is integrated, yet Google Tag Manager (GTM-P2G3PSXS) is loaded on every page served
- The FAQ's 'We never read or store your AI conversations' sits against an optional cloud transmission described in the policy and AI processing billed in credits
- Unsupported social proof: Netflix, Google, Microsoft, Meta, Apple, Amazon, Tesla, Nvidia, Intel and Samsung logos under 'Trusted by professionals at leading company', with no customer reference, alongside 'World's Best' and 'Trusted by thousands of satisfied users'
- A six-month-old domain with copy already out of date (the FAQ still calls paid tiers 'planned for future tiers' while Pro sells at USD 9.99 per month), no API, no mobile app, and a site that displays nothing without JavaScript
Pricing & Plans
MindMarks offers a permanent free plan, presented as 'Free forever'. Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how MindMarks handles your data.
GDPR overview
There is no stated GDPR implementation at all. A sweep of the twelve published routes and of the application bundle that carries every line of the site's text returns zero occurrences of 'GDPR', and none of 'CCPA' either. No legal basis for processing is given; no right of access, rectification, erasure or portability is described; no retention period is quantified; no Article 27 EU representative is designated and no data protection officer is named. No data processing agreement is offered, and the site carries no terms of service page whatsoever. The privacy policy, updated on 4 February 2026, does describe what is collected and what the user can delete, but says nothing about European regulation. The only channel offered for a privacy question is the generic address info@mindmarks.io, given in section 8 of that policy.
Who owns the data?
MindMarks' privacy policy, last updated on 4 February 2026, treats the user as the owner of the content handled: the web pages viewed or selected, the AI-generated text on screen, and the notes, tags and folders created. The policy states that MindMark does not sell, rent, or share user data with third parties, and lists what it says it never collects: names, email addresses, phone numbers, credentials, financial data and browsing history outside activated pages. Users choose what is saved, can delete stored data at any time from the extension, and can switch the cloud features off. No terms of service exist on the site to confirm any of these commitments contractually.
Reuse rights
The site publishes no terms of service, so no contract states what either side may do with the content. According to the privacy policy, data serves to generate summaries and highlights, to sort conversations automatically into folders and categories, and to build the knowledge structure; it adds that Data is never used for advertising, tracking, or profiling purposes and that We do not integrate third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. That second claim is contradicted by the pages actually served, which load Google Tag Manager (container GTM-P2G3PSXS) in the head of every route. On the user's side, control is practical rather than contractual: exports to JSON, Markdown, plain text or Notion require no permission step, and stored data can be deleted from the extension at any moment. Server-side AI processing does exist and is billed in credits — roughly 100 credits for 200,000 tokens — behind the automatic categorization quota and the AI-Powered Chat Insights feature. Payments go through Stripe, and the policy states that payment information is encrypted and never stored on the publisher's servers.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
The site describes a local-first model without ever naming a jurisdiction. The privacy policy states that By default, data is processed and stored locally in the user's browser, that Optional cloud features (if enabled by the user) may securely transmit selected content to MindMark servers for advanced processing, and that no data is uploaded without an explicit user action or feature activation. Beyond that, nothing is published: no hosting country, no region and no infrastructure provider is named, and no subprocessor list exists. What can be observed from outside concerns the website rather than user data: the site sits behind Cloudflare (AS13335, anycast address 172.67.160.94), the application is generated with base44, and an auxiliary service runs on Cloudflare Workers. Being anycast, that address supports no conclusion about where anything is stored. Payments are handled by Stripe, and the policy states that payment information is encrypted and never stored on the publisher's servers. Anyone with a data residency requirement will have to ask at info@mindmarks.io, since no document on the site answers the question.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting MindMarks.
- No terms of service exist on the site: nothing written governs the use of the tool, nor the subscription you pay for
- The publisher is anonymous — no company name, no postal address, no named director; the footer stops at 'MindMarks · Chat Organizer · © 2026'
- The GDPR is never mentioned anywhere, although the product handles the content of your conversations; no retention period, no hosting country and no subprocessor list are published
- The privacy policy states 'We do not integrate third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs' while Google Tag Manager (GTM-P2G3PSXS) is loaded on every page served
- The extension FAQ states 'We never read or store your AI conversations' while the policy provides for an optional cloud transmission and the product bills AI processing credits, which imply a server
- Marketing claims run ahead of the evidence: a logo banner (Netflix, Google, Microsoft, Meta, Apple, Amazon, Tesla, Nvidia, Intel, Samsung) under 'Trusted by professionals at leading company' with no customer reference, plus 'World's Best' and 'Trusted by thousands of satisfied users' on a domain registered on 1 February 2026
- Handing your memory over has a cognitive cost: automatic outlines, summaries and task extraction can quietly replace the effort of re-reading and thinking through your own conversations — and since the subscription lives only inside the extension, with no web billing portal, leaving is less visible than joining
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Very low. Installation is a single click from the Chrome, Edge or Firefox store, announced at around ten seconds. No account, no API key and no configuration are required — the site states 'No account needed · Works instantly' — and the outline and side panel attach themselves to a supported conversation on their own. Only the Pro tier asks for more: an email address, a six-digit verification code, then a Stripe payment window. No technical skill is needed at any stage.

Who is behind MindMarks?
Should you pick MindMarks?
MindMarks answers a problem that has become common: an AI history too large to navigate. On that front the execution is already substantial for a product this young — three extensions published on the Chrome, Edge and Firefox stores, four models covered including Claude Code, an automatic outline for long threads, unlimited folders and tags, cross-referencing between conversations, and open export to JSON, Markdown and plain text. It installs in seconds without an account, and the paid tier starts at USD 9.99 per month with a 14-day trial and self-service cancellation. For an individual, the cost of trying it is close to zero and the payoff is concrete.
What you also accept, by taking it, is an unusual level of opacity. There is no terms of service page, no company name, no postal address, no named director, and not one mention of the GDPR across the whole site. Nothing states how long data is kept, where it is hosted, or which subprocessors are involved. Three internal contradictions deserve to be known rather than settled here: the policy claims no third-party analytics SDK while Google Tag Manager is loaded on every page served; the FAQ claims conversations are never read or stored while the product bills AI processing in credits; and a banner of Netflix, Google, Microsoft, Meta, Apple and other logos sits under 'Trusted by professionals at leading company' with no customer reference behind it. The domain is six months old and part of the copy is already out of date.
The reasonable reading is therefore split: a cheap and useful personal tool for someone comfortable with local-first storage, and a file to instruct carefully before any company deployment, where the missing contract and the missing legal entity are blocking.
