Plot Factory is an online story planner and writing application operated by Plot Factory, LLC. It runs entirely in a browser — nothing to install — and is deliberately built to work on a phone as well as on a desktop, so a chapter can be started on a commute and finished at a desk.
The product organises writing around three objects. A universe holds the lore of a fictional world: places kept in a Place Keeper, objects such as magical items or secret documents, and notes that attach to a single book or carry across a whole series. Characters live in lists and sheets, either built-in templates or one you design yourself, with avatars and a viewpoint recorded scene by scene to stop point-of-view drift. Stories are cut into chapters and scenes that can be dragged into a new order within a chapter or across chapters.
Planning tools sit alongside the manuscript rather than in a separate app: outlines shaped to hold tension across an arc, a Plot Organizer that groups plot points into acts, story questionnaires and a beats mode. The artificial intelligence in this version is narrow and specific: an audio narration generator that reads your prose in life-like synthetic voices, currently English accents and female voices. It is pitched as a revision tool, since hearing a passage aloud exposes grammatical errors, run-on sentences and flat pacing that the eye skips over. The narration allowance is what separates the tiers, from 250 words a day on the free plan to unlimited narration and MP3 export at the top.

GDPR overview
The privacy policy, effective 18 August 2018 and unchanged since, carries two explicit GDPR sections. The first sets out the legal bases relied on: performance of a contract, consent, legitimate interests not overridden by your rights, payment processing and legal obligation. The second grants EEA residents access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction, portability and withdrawal of consent, exercisable in account settings where possible and by email otherwise, together with the right to complain to a supervisory authority. What is missing is equally concrete: the phrase GDPR compliant never appears, no data protection officer is named, no Article 27 EU representative is designated, and no postal address is published anywhere on the site. Data is transferred to and processed in the United States with no transfer mechanism stated.
Who owns the data?
Plot Factory, LLC is unambiguous on ownership. The terms state that you own all rights to the content you submit, and the FAQ repeats it in plainer words. The company reserves only the right to host that content, to display it back to its copyright owner, and to store it on its servers. Publishing your work publicly on plotfactory.com requires your express consent, and the FAQ confirms that nobody else sees your writing unless you generate a sharing link yourself. For personal data — email address, name, usage records — Plot Factory, LLC acts as data controller. Should the company be merged, acquired or sold, personal data may be transferred, with prior notice.
Reuse rights
Your writing remains yours to reuse without asking permission: the terms grant you all rights to submitted content and impose no licence back to the company beyond hosting, storage and display to you. You may take a manuscript out at any time in Word, ePub, plain text, PDF or HTML, one chapter at a time or in a single export, and you may share a chapter or a complete novel by URL with readers who hold no account. Export survives cancellation — the FAQ confirms that unsubscribing neither deletes nor locks your work, although stories beyond the third become read-only until you subscribe again. Nothing in the terms or the privacy policy claims any right to reuse your text for training, advertising or promotion.

Hosting summary
Plot Factory names one jurisdiction and no more. The privacy policy states that users located outside the United States have their information, personal data included, transferred to the United States and processed there, and treats acceptance of the policy as agreement to that transfer. No hosting provider, data centre, region or availability zone is named anywhere on the site, and no security certification such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001 is claimed. The domain itself is served through Cloudflare, but that is content delivery rather than a statement about where manuscripts are stored. Three third parties are named as having access to personal data: Google Analytics and Google AdWords for measurement and remarketing, and Stripe for payments — card details are handled by the processor and never stored by Plot Factory, LLC. On security the commitment is one of means only, the policy conceding that no method of internet transmission or electronic storage is completely secure. European users should note that no transfer mechanism, standard contractual clauses or otherwise, is identified.

Its AI capability is real but narrow: an audio narration generator that reads your prose in synthetic voices so you can proofread by ear. Anyone arriving in search of a drafting or feedback assistant will not find one here.
Commercially it is honest and cheap. The free plan is genuinely usable for a first project, the entry tier costs 9 USD a month, annual billing gives two months back, cancellation costs nothing, and your work stays readable and exportable afterwards. Ownership of what you write is stated plainly in both the terms and the FAQ.
