Resume Trick
An online builder for resumes, academic CVs and cover letters, with AI drafting included. Pick a template, let it write your summary, then export. A permanent free plan sits below paid tiers from 7 USD monthly on annual billing.
What is Resume Trick?
Resume Trick is a browser-based document builder for people applying for jobs. Published by Icecream Apps Limited, a company based in Limassol, Cyprus, it launched in 2023, and it runs three separate builders: one for a US-style resume, one for an academic curriculum vitae, and one for cover letters. Nothing is installed and there is no API.
The workflow is deliberately short. You choose one of the 35 named templates, each offered in several colour variants, fill in contact details, objective, education, experience and skills, let the AI write the parts most people struggle with, then download. The product page says the AI automatically writes key sections like professional summary and descriptions for work experience and offers skills tailored to your career goals. An automatic spell and grammar checker runs alongside, and the layout stays consistent whatever you add: sections can be reordered by drag and drop, and extra ones such as Certifications, Projects or Awards can be inserted without breaking the page.
You can build and download without creating an account; an account exists so documents are saved in a private dashboard and can be updated later. The interface is responsive, so a document started on a phone can be finished on a desktop, and the FAQ states plainly that Resume Trick is currently available as an online resume builder, with no mobile app. Every tier, the free one included, advertises access to more than 1,500 resume examples, and a career blog supplies how-to guides and role-by-role samples. Multilingual building is announced for Spanish, German and French and more, with localised formatting, although the site itself is in English.
The promotional figures come from the site and carry no published source or method. Resume Trick claims a 4.7/5 Trustpilot score, 10,000 resumes and 7,500 cover letters built since 2023, users being 17% more likely to receive a job offer and getting 8% better pay in their next role, and a 25% better chance of an offer on the pricing page. Read them as marketing claims rather than measurements.

- The site never says whether resume content is used to train models, and documents no opt-out
- No DPA, no named data protection officer and no security certification (SOC 2, ISO); cross-border transfers are anticipated without a named mechanism, and anonymised data feeds ad targeting
- Internal contradictions: minimum age 18 in the terms against 13 in the privacy policy, and Paddle in the pricing FAQ against Avangate B.V. (2Checkout) in the privacy policy, both documents unrevised since 2023
- Performance claims of 17%, 8% and 25% are published without source or method, and the underlying AI model is not disclosed

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how Resume Trick handles your data.
GDPR overview
GDPR is named explicitly. The privacy policy, effective 15 June 2023, states that security measures follow internal rules and procedures including GDPR, and the terms of use, dated 1 August 2023, place the service under Cypriot and European Union law. As the publisher is established in the EU (Cyprus), no Article 27 representative is required and none is appointed. Data subject rights are listed: access, objection, restriction, erasure, rectification, portability in a machine-readable format and transmission to another controller, all exercised by email to support@icecreamapps.com. Consent can be withdrawn at any time with immediate effect, and no sensitive data is collected. Implementation stops there: no data protection officer, no DPA, no SOC 2 or ISO certification, and cross-border transfers anticipated without any named transfer mechanism.
Who owns the data?
Icecream Apps Limited, the Cypriot company behind Resume Trick, acts as data controller and states that all material on the site, templates included, belongs to it unless stated otherwise. Files you upload or generate stay on its servers and are not shared with third-party sites or individuals; in paid accounts they are kept until you delete them. Personal information is not sold, rented or traded for other parties' promotional purposes, and is shared only with service providers acting on the publisher's behalf. It may pass to a buyer if company assets are sold, or be disclosed on lawful request from courts or authorities. Anonymised data may serve marketing, statistics and ad targeting.
Reuse rights
The terms grant a limited licence: you may access the site and download or print a copy of the content you have properly gained access to, solely for personal, non-commercial use, with every right not expressly granted reserved by the publisher. Duplicating, republishing, reselling, sub-licensing, translating or commercially exploiting the site's content is prohibited, and systematic collection by scraping or data mining requires written permission. The resume or cover letter you produce is a different matter, since it is designed to leave the platform: you download it as PDF with a PRO account or as TXT on the free plan and send it to employers yourself, with no permission to ask for.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
According to the privacy policy, effective 15 June 2023, personal information may be stored and processed in the Republic of Cyprus and elsewhere, by the publisher, its affiliates or an unaffiliated service provider, across computer systems described as currently based globally. Cyprus is the only hosting country actually named. No hosting region is declared, no data residency option is offered and no hosting certification is claimed. Five external providers are named in the policy and handle data on the publisher's behalf: Brevo, Google Analytics, Avangate B.V. (2Checkout), Groove HQ and Olark. Separately from that declaration, the website's own server resolves to an address in the United States (108.62.98.48, New York City, Leaseweb USA). That is the technical location of the web front end, not a statement about where user documents are stored, and the two should not be conflated. In practice: an EU jurisdiction is claimed for the data, US infrastructure serves the site, and everything beyond Cyprus is left as elsewhere.

Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Resume Trick.
- Letting the AI speak for you: the site itself advises reviewing and editing the generated text so it reflects your real background, and an interview will test what the resume claims
- The 7 USD per month headline requires 84 USD paid up front for twelve months; paying month by month costs 18 USD per month
- Refunds are refused once more than 7 days have passed and a file has been downloaded, despite the 30-day guarantee announced in the pricing FAQ, and an accidental renewal must be reported within 3 days
- Anonymised data is used for marketing, statistics and advertising targeting, and cross-border transfers are anticipated without any named transfer mechanism
- Nothing is said about whether the content of your resume feeds model training, and no opt-out is documented
- The legal documents date from 2023 (terms 1 August 2023, privacy policy 15 June 2023) and contradict each other on minimum age, 18 against 13; the payment provider also differs between pages, Paddle against Avangate B.V. (2Checkout)
- The performance figures of 17%, 8%, 25% and 4.7/5 are claimed by the site with no source or method published
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Minimal. There is nothing to install and nothing to configure: a browser is enough, and a document can be built and downloaded without an account. Registration is optional, by email and a password of at least eight characters or through Google sign-in, with an activation link to confirm the address. No API key, no webhook, no technical setup. The AI Resume Builder page documents the path in four steps, choose a template, enter your information, let the AI write, download, and the responsive interface lets you start on one device and finish on another.

Should you pick Resume Trick?
Resume Trick gives away more than most builders in its category: the AI generator, the 1500+ examples and unlimited TXT downloads all sit inside a permanent free plan, and a document can be built and downloaded without registering at all. For a student, a first-time applicant or someone reframing a career, that is a real starting point rather than a teaser.
The ceiling arrives quickly. A free account holds one resume and one cover letter, and the premium PDF templates, the ones most people would actually send, sit behind the PRO tier. The advertised 7 USD per month means 84 USD paid up front for a year; handled month by month, the same access costs 18 USD per month. At 84 USD a year the package is generous. At 18 USD for one urgent document, much less obviously so.
Governance is mixed. The publisher, Icecream Apps Limited, is established in Cyprus and therefore inside the EU, GDPR is named in the privacy policy, data subject rights are listed and five service providers are named. But there is no DPA, no data protection officer, no security certification, and nothing at all about whether resume content feeds model training. The terms and the privacy policy have not been revised since 2023 while the product has moved on, and they contradict each other on minimum age.
The natural audience is job seekers, students, academics and freelancers working on their own. HR teams needing integration will find no API, and commercial use is explicitly forbidden by the terms. Anyone about to pay for a year should read the refund conditions first.
