Mynewsdesk
An all-in-one public relations platform combining media monitoring, press release distribution and impact reporting, with AI that drafts releases, recommends relevant journalists and links earned coverage back to the stories you published.
What is Mynewsdesk?
Mynewsdesk is a software-as-a-service platform for public relations and media intelligence, published by the Swedish company Mynewsdesk AB and in operation since the early 2000s. It brings together three activities that PR teams usually spread across separate tools: monitoring what is said about a brand, distributing press releases, and measuring what those releases achieved.
The monitoring side tracks mentions across online news, social media, podcasts, radio, television, YouTube and TikTok, with paywalled sources covered in Sweden and print in Norway. Real-time alerts and email digests sit alongside a dashboard and two standing report formats, a brand report and a coverage report. The distribution side provides a hosted newsroom, which can be served on the customer's own domain through a DNS record, and sends releases to a database the company describes as holding more than one million journalists. Reporting closes the loop with reach, share of voice, sentiment and competitor benchmarking.
Artificial intelligence appears as a layer across those three blocks rather than as a separate product. Four capabilities are described: search profiles built automatically from the content you publish, so no manual query setup is required; recommendation of the journalists most relevant to a given story, based on their previous publications; a drafting assistant, which the company calls its CoPilot, that produces a first version of a press release from a few fields; and automatic matching of earned coverage back to the release that prompted it. The site is explicit that AI-generated drafts must be proofread and fact-checked before publication.
The company reports 119 employees and claims more than 4,000 customer organisations. Named customers include a consumer electronics manufacturer, a travel group, a Swedish municipality and a national museum. Mynewsdesk has belonged to the Norwegian media group now called DN Media Group AS since 2008. Entry is through a ten-day free trial that requires no payment card, after which the lowest published plan can be bought from inside the tool.

- Produce reports covering reach, share of voice and sentiment
- Benchmark your media presence against selected competitors and spot emerging topics
When to use Mynewsdesk / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if Mynewsdesk is the right fit.
When to use Mynewsdesk
- In-house PR and communications teams that publish and measure in the same place
- Public sector communications officers, such as the municipal teams named as customers
- Nordic and European organisations needing print, broadcast and paywalled monitoring in Sweden and Norway
- Small communications teams with no technical resource, since setup needs no development work
- Brand and marketing managers who must report share of voice and sentiment to management
When not to use Mynewsdesk
- Organisations outside Europe, since print, audio and video monitoring is limited to Sweden and Norway
- Teams on a tight budget, as the published entry point is EUR 220 per month
- Engineering teams wanting to integrate programmatically, because no API documentation is published
- Users who need a native mobile app, as neither an iOS nor an Android application exists
- Communicators needing more than one brand, one market or four releases a year on the entry plan
How to use Mynewsdesk
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Start the ten-day free trial with your name, work email and a password; no payment card is requested
- Set up your newsroom, which the company says takes minutes and needs no technical expertise
- Define the brand or brands you want to monitor, or let the AI build search profiles from your published content
- Configure real-time alerts and the email digests you want to receive
- Draft a press release yourself, or have the AI produce a first version from a few input fields
- Proofread and fact-check the draft, which the site presents as a required step
- Review the journalists the platform recommends, and check what they have covered before
- Publish to your newsroom, by email and to social channels in one action
- Optionally point a CNAME record at the platform to serve the newsroom on your own domain
- Track opens, clicks, earned coverage and share of voice, then export the standing reports

- Broad channel coverage that includes audio and video, not only text
- Thorough contractual documentation: terms, data protection terms, an annexed DPA and a security policy
- Customer ownership of published content stated explicitly in the terms

- Print, audio, video and paywalled monitoring is confined to Sweden and Norway
- The entry plan is tightly capped at four releases a year, one brand, one market and three months of history
- No API documentation is published, so programmatic integration is not an advertised option
- No iOS or Android application exists
- No named list of sub-processors is published, although the DPA provides for using them
- The vendor's position on training AI models with customer data is stated nowhere

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how Mynewsdesk handles your data.
GDPR overview
Implementation is concrete and documented. Swedish law applies, specifically lag (2018:218) alongside Regulation (EU) 2016/679. Mynewsdesk publishes Data Protection Terms with a full data processing agreement annexed, and states that its terms were updated in accordance with the GDPR. The privacy policy sets out access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection rights. Internal Data Privacy Officers are appointed, although no dedicated name or address is published and privacy questions are routed to the general support address. Personal data breaches are escalated for notification to the Swedish supervisory authority within seventy-two hours. Transfers outside the EU or EEA rely on standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision. As a Swedish company, Mynewsdesk needs no Article 27 representative, and none is named.
Who owns the data?
The customer keeps ownership. The general terms state that all customer content published through the services remains the sole property of the customer or its respective legal owner, and rights in content that Mynewsdesk produces on the customer's behalf follow the same logic. When Mynewsdesk handles personal data on the customer's behalf it acts as a data processor, governed by the published Data Protection Terms and the data processing agreement annexed to them. The customer stays accountable for the lawfulness of the contact lists it loads into the platform. Mynewsdesk is a separate controller only for the personal data of its own account holders.
Reuse rights
Customers keep the right to reuse their own content, which never transfers to Mynewsdesk. Mynewsdesk processes account data, contact lists and usage records to run the service, and its role is contractually limited to acting on documented instructions from the customer. Sub-processors may be engaged, but only after notice and with a right for the customer to object, and transfers outside the EU or EEA require standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision. A usage log covering the customer's own staff is kept for twelve months for IT security purposes. Nothing published on the site says whether customer data is used to train AI models, in either direction.

Hosting summary
Mynewsdesk names three hosting providers: Hetzner, Redpill Linpro and Amazon Web Services. The security policy states that servers for all three are located within the European Union, but does not name an individual country, so the jurisdiction is declared at regional level only. The two European providers are described as certified to ISO 27001, and a list of accreditations is given for Amazon; these belong to the hosting providers and not to Mynewsdesk. Backups of customer data are kept for thirty days for system recovery, with application logs retained longer for security consistency. Availability is targeted at 99.99 percent annually, with a public status page. Transfers of personal data outside the EU or EEA remain possible under the data protection terms, subject to standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision. Governing law is Swedish, and breaches are notified to the Swedish supervisory authority.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Mynewsdesk.
- AI-drafted press releases go out under your organisation's name: the site itself insists drafts be proofread and fact-checked, and publishing an unchecked draft is a reputational risk you own entirely
- Leaning on automated drafting can erode the editorial judgement of a communications team over time, particularly for juniors who never learn to structure a release themselves
- Journalist recommendations are based on past publications, which tends to reinforce existing contacts and can quietly narrow the range of media you approach
- You remain legally responsible for the lawfulness of the contact lists you upload, and the vendor states this explicitly rather than assuming it for you
- Nothing published states whether customer data is used to train AI models, and no opt-out is offered, so that question is unresolved rather than answered
- Sentiment scores and share of voice are presented as measurements but rest on automated classification; treating them as fact in management reporting overstates their precision
- Certifications shown on the security page belong to the hosting providers, not to Mynewsdesk itself, and should not be read as vendor accreditation
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Low. Signing up takes three fields and no payment card, and the company states that a newsroom can be set up and in use within minutes with no technical expertise required. Onboarding is self-service in the tool on the entry plan, and guided on the higher plans, with support available daily. The only genuinely technical step is optional: pointing a CNAME record at the platform if you want the newsroom served from your own domain, which requires access to your DNS settings.

Should you pick Mynewsdesk?
Mynewsdesk is a mature product rather than a recent arrival. The company behind it was registered in Sweden in 2002, the domain has been captured since 2004, and it has belonged to a Norwegian media group since 2008. That maturity shows in the parts of the offering that newer tools usually lack: a complete set of contractual documents, an annexed data processing agreement, a published security policy and an explicit statement that customers keep ownership of what they publish.
Its strongest argument is the chain it closes. Publishing a release, monitoring what it earns and reporting on the result normally requires stitching together separate vendors; here it happens in one place, and the AI layer is aimed squarely at the joints of that chain rather than at generating content for its own sake. The drafting assistant, the journalist recommendations and the automatic linking of coverage to releases all reduce manual work at points where PR teams genuinely lose time. The site is also refreshingly direct that AI drafts must be checked before they go out.
Two reservations matter. The first is geographic: while online and social monitoring is broad, the print, broadcast and paywalled coverage that distinguishes a serious media intelligence product is confined to Sweden and Norway, which narrows the case considerably outside the Nordics. The second is commercial transparency: only one of three plans carries a price, and that plan is tightly capped at four releases a year and a single brand. Buyers with real volume will be negotiating, not comparing.
Technically it is a web application and nothing else, with no published API and no mobile app. For a communications team that works in a browser, that is no obstacle. For anyone hoping to pipe coverage data into a wider stack, it is a real limitation.
