Overview

What is ClassPoint?

ClassPoint is a teaching add-in that lives inside Microsoft PowerPoint on Windows. Once installed it adds a tab to the ribbon and a toolbar that surfaces in slideshow mode, so a lesson never has to leave the deck it was built in. Its publisher, Inknoe Pte. Ltd., is a Singapore education technology company whose trust centre dates the business to 2015; the product claims more than a million educators and trainers, twenty million participants and ten million interactive sessions across more than a hundred countries.

Four blocks make up the tool. Interactive quizzes cover eight response types, including multiple choice, word cloud, fill in the blanks, short answer, image upload, video upload, audio recording and slide drawing, and answers can be turned into fresh slides on the spot. ClassPoint AI is the part that earns the tool its place in an AI directory: it reads the text on a slide and drafts multiple choice, short answer or fill-in-the-blank questions in seconds. It runs on OpenAI, generates in the language you pick, and lets you set the cognitive level against Bloom's taxonomy, from remembering through to creating. AI use is metered in credits, with twenty on the free plan, five hundred a month on Pro and no limit on Premium; one credit buys one question.

Gamification is the third block, covering stars, levels, badges, a class roster and both session and overall leaderboards. The fourth gathers presentation tools: inking and annotation, text boxes, whiteboard backgrounds, draggable objects, a timer and stopwatch, a random name picker and an embedded browser.

Participants install nothing at all. They open the join page in any browser, enter a class code and answer, which keeps phones and tablets in play even though the presenter side is Windows-only. Class size is capped at twenty-five on the free plan, two hundred on Pro and five hundred on Premium. Sessions close with a quiz summary and class reports, retained for a month, a year or indefinitely depending on the plan, while Premium adds grouping, live Q&A, custom branding and JSON webhooks.

What it does

  • Run eight kinds of live question inside PowerPoint, from multiple choice and word cloud to slide drawing and audio recording
  • Generate quiz questions with AI from the text already sitting on a slide
  • Pin each AI question to a level of Bloom's taxonomy and generate it in the language you choose
  • Collect answers live from any browser, with no account or install on the participant side
  • Award stars, levels and badges, and reveal session or overall leaderboards
  • Annotate slides mid-show with ink, text boxes, whiteboards, a timer and a random name picker
  • Produce class reports and quiz summaries, and push them out as JSON webhooks on Premium
Audience

When to use ClassPoint / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if ClassPoint is the right fit.

When to use ClassPoint

  • K-12 teachers who already build every lesson in PowerPoint on a Windows machine
  • University lecturers and teaching assistants trying to poll a room too large to poll by hand
  • Corporate trainers and workshop facilitators who want live audience response without a second app
  • Schools and districts needing a silent MSI rollout, custom branding and lifetime class reports
  • Instructional designers and learning technologists reviving an existing library of slide decks

When not to use ClassPoint

  • Anyone who presents from a Mac, an iPad or an iPhone, since the add-in is Windows-only
  • Presenters working in Google Slides, Keynote or Canva, none of which ClassPoint supports
  • Developers wanting a public API: only Premium webhooks exist, with no published documentation
  • Fully asynchronous e-learning, where no one is live to run the session and award stars
  • Under-18s as account holders, since the terms reserve accounts for adults
Get started

How to use ClassPoint

A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.

  1. Check the requirements first: Windows 10 version 1703 or later, or Windows 11, with PowerPoint 2013 to 2021 or Office 365
  2. Confirm the machine has .NET Framework 4.7.2 or 4.8, the VSTO 2010 runtime, 4 GB of RAM and 2 GB of free disk space
  3. Create a free account on the ClassPoint sign-up page
  4. Download the Windows installer from the download centre, or the MSI package if you are deploying across an organisation
  5. Install it and reopen PowerPoint, where a ClassPoint tab now sits in the ribbon
  6. Open an existing deck rather than rebuilding one, since ClassPoint works on the slides you already have
  7. Add interactive questions to the slides that need them, or let ClassPoint AI draft questions from the slide text
  8. Enter slideshow mode, where the ClassPoint toolbar appears at the bottom of the screen
  9. Have participants open the join page in a browser and enter the class code, then start collecting answers and awarding stars
  10. Review the quiz summary and class report once the session is over

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Bolts onto PowerPoint instead of replacing it, so existing decks and habits survive intact
  • No app-switching during a session, which is the single benefit teachers keep citing in the testimonials
  • Participants need neither an account nor an install, on any device they already own
  • A permanent free plan, with twenty AI credits to try the question generator
  • An unusually thorough compliance record for a small publisher: SOC 2, GDPR, FERPA, COPPA, ST4S, Singapore PDPA and a public trust centre
  • A published subprocessor table naming the data type, purpose and location of each third party
  • A low entry price at USD 8 per month billed annually, undercutting most audience-response tools

Cons

  • Windows and desktop PowerPoint are mandatory: macOS, iPadOS, iOS and ARM-based Windows are all excluded
  • Monthly payment is not accepted, so the Pro plan is an annual commitment in practice
  • No public API and no developer documentation; webhooks exist but only on Premium
  • The free plan is tight: 25 participants, five questions per deck, five question types and three saved classes
  • Premium pricing is not published and only reachable through the sales team
  • No data processing agreement, no Article 27 EU representative and no named data protection officer
  • Nothing documents whether or how customer data can be excluded from AI model training

Trust & Privacy

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how ClassPoint handles your data.

GDPR overview

GDPR compliance is claimed explicitly and backed by more paperwork than most tools of this size publish. The homepage states that ClassPoint is fully compliant with SOC 2, GDPR, FERPA and COPPA, and Inknoe's public trust centre lists SOC 2, GDPR, ST4S, US FERPA, US COPPA, VAPT and Singapore PDPA as compliant. The privacy policy, last updated on 9 August 2024, enumerates the rights of data subjects, namely information, access, rectification, erasure, restriction, withdrawal of consent and complaint, and routes requests to support@inknoe.com, with account deletion completed within thirty days at the latest. A full subprocessor list is published. Three gaps remain: no Article 27 EU representative is named, no data protection officer is designated, and no data processing agreement is offered anywhere on the site.

Who owns the data?

Inknoe Pte. Ltd. acts as the responsible data controller or processor, and its terms are unusually clear on ownership: users keep full ownership of everything they submit, including text, images, videos and any other user-generated content. Student data sits under a separate regime, governed by the contract with the educational institution and by FERPA and COPPA rather than by the general privacy policy; participants themselves hand over only a nickname, deliberately unlinked to any persistent identifier. Inknoe may share personal data with the seventeen subprocessors it names, with its affiliates, in the course of a merger or sale of assets, and where a public authority legally compels disclosure.

Reuse rights

Reuse is unrestricted on the customer's side. The terms return full ownership of user-generated content to whoever created it, and nothing in them limits reusing questions, decks or class results elsewhere. Existing presentations stay usable exactly as they are, since ClassPoint layers itself onto a deck instead of converting it. Results come back as quiz summaries and class reports, kept for one month on Basic, one year on Pro and for the lifetime of the account on Premium. Premium accounts can also push raw class reports as JSON to their own endpoint through a webhook, which is the only documented way of feeding ClassPoint data into another system.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
Personal data is kept only as long as the purposes set out in the privacy policy require, and beyond that only to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes or enforce agreements. Usage data is generally held for a shorter period, unless it is being used to strengthen security, improve the service or satisfy a legal duty. An account can be deleted on request through the contact form, and Inknoe undertakes to comply promptly and within thirty days at the latest. Class reports follow the plan: one month on Basic, one year on Pro and the lifetime of the account on Premium. No fixed duration is published for any other category of data. The applicable privacy policy is dated 9 August 2024.

Hosting summary

Inknoe publishes a subprocessor table giving the data type, purpose and location of every third party it uses, which is more than most vendors of this size disclose. Core hosting and storage sit in Singapore: Microsoft Azure for infrastructure, Amazon Web Services and DigitalOcean for uploaded files, and MongoDB Atlas for account data. A second group is located in the United States and covers everything around the product, including Filestack, Stripe, Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, ShareThis, Slack, three Zoho services, Sentry, Zoom, Pipedrive and OpenAI, which receives slide text for the AI features. The company itself is Singaporean and the terms are governed by Singapore law, with Singapore PDPA compliance declared alongside SOC 2 and GDPR. Note that the website front end resolved to a Microsoft Azure address in Amsterdam on 9 August 2026; that is a delivery node, not a declared storage location. Security claims cover SSL encryption throughout and independent penetration testing, with no absolute guarantee offered.

Availability

Where ClassPoint works

Country-level availability.

Not available in

Watch-outs

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting ClassPoint.

  • The text of your slides is sent to OpenAI, a declared subprocessor based in the United States, so sensitive or confidential material should stay out of decks used with the AI generator
  • Nothing on the site documents an option to exclude customer data from AI model training
  • AI-written questions still have to be read and corrected: pedagogical accuracy remains the teacher's responsibility, not the tool's
  • Leaderboards and star counts can turn a class into a competition, which sits badly with anxious or struggling students and pushes motivation towards the extrinsic
  • Answers, scores and attendance are collected at the teacher's instruction, leaving the institution accountable for data about minors
  • Building teaching habits around a proprietary Windows add-in makes any later move to Mac, iPad or another suite costly
  • Accounts are reserved for adults, fees already paid are non-refundable, and annual subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Moderate on the presenter side, negligible for everyone else. A presenter must install a desktop application on Windows 10 or 11 with desktop PowerPoint, plus .NET Framework 4.7.2 or 4.8 and the VSTO 2010 runtime, then work from a new ClassPoint tab in the ribbon. On a locked-down school machine, admin rights and those two dependencies are the real friction, though an MSI package allows silent deployment across an organisation and Premium adds guided onboarding. Participants install nothing: a browser and a class code are enough.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is ClassPoint?
It is an add-in for Microsoft PowerPoint on Windows that adds interactive questions, gamification, presentation and annotation tools, and an AI quiz generator, all playable without leaving your slideshow.
Does everyone have to install something?
Only the presenter. ClassPoint has to be installed on the presenting Windows computer, while participants simply open a browser, enter the class code and answer from any device.
Does ClassPoint work on a Mac or an iPad?
No. The published FAQ states that ClassPoint is not compatible with macOS, iPadOS or iOS, and the requirements page also rules out ARM-based Windows PCs such as the Surface Pro X. Running Windows on a Mac is the only workaround offered.
What does the machine need to run it?
Windows 10 version 1703 or later, or Windows 11; desktop PowerPoint 2013, 2016, 2019, 2021 or Office 365; .NET Framework 4.7.2 or 4.8; the Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office runtime; 4 GB of RAM and 2 GB of free disk space.
How does the AI quiz generator work?
ClassPoint AI reads the text on the slide you are showing and drafts multiple choice, short answer or fill-in-the-blank questions from it. It is powered by OpenAI, can generate in the language of your choice, and lets you target a level of Bloom's taxonomy.
How many AI questions can I generate?
Usage runs on credits, one credit per generated question: 20 credits in total on the free plan, 500 credits per month on Pro, and unlimited credits on Premium.
Is there a free version, and what does the paid one cost?
Yes, the Basic plan is free and permanent, with a 25-participant limit. Pro costs USD 8 per month billed annually at USD 96, and Premium is quoted individually. Monthly payment is not accepted, and annual plans renew automatically until cancelled.
How many participants can join a session?
Up to 25 on Basic, 200 on Pro and 500 on Premium. Participants are always free and never need a licence of their own.
What happens to student data?
Participants supply only a nickname, which the privacy policy states is not linked to any persistent identifier. Anything a teacher collects about a class is governed by the contract with the institution and by FERPA and COPPA, and Inknoe publishes the full list of subprocessors handling the data.
Are there discounts?
Schools and districts are quoted volume packages that include discounts, premium training and support. Nonprofit organisations are invited to contact the company for a discussion about pricing.
Conclusion

Should you pick ClassPoint?

ClassPoint answers a narrow question extremely well: how do you make a PowerPoint lesson interactive without asking a teacher to learn, buy and juggle a second tool? By living in the ribbon and running in slideshow mode, it lets a decade-old deck become a quiz, a poll or a whiteboard with no rebuild, and it keeps participants on a plain browser link with no account to create. That single design decision explains both the enthusiasm in its testimonials and the scale it claims, with more than a million educators across a hundred countries.

The AI layer is real but deliberately bounded. ClassPoint AI reads a slide and drafts questions from it, with Bloom's taxonomy levels and any language you like, metered in credits. It is a genuine time-saver for preparing formative assessment, not a general-purpose assistant, and the questions it writes still need a teacher's eye before they reach a class.

The compliance file is stronger than the size of the company would suggest: SOC 2, GDPR, FERPA, COPPA, ST4S and Singapore PDPA, a public trust centre, and a subprocessor table that names the data, the purpose and the country for each third party. Core storage sits in Singapore, with a long list of United States processors alongside, OpenAI among them.

Two things should give buyers pause. The first is structural: Windows and desktop PowerPoint are compulsory, which rules out any institution running on Macs or iPads. The second is contractual: no data processing agreement is published, no EU Article 27 representative is named, monthly payment is not accepted, and Premium pricing is only available on request. For a Windows-based school or training team, none of that outweighs the convenience; for anyone else, it decides the matter early.
