Homestyler is a cloud 3D interior design platform that runs entirely in a web browser, with companion apps for iOS and Android. It began at Autodesk: the prototype Autodesk Dragonfly appeared in 2009, the product launched as Autodesk Homestyler in 2010 and reached the iPad in 2013. The Chinese group Easyhome bought it from Autodesk in 2016, Easyhome and Alibaba Group invested jointly in 2019, and the platform pivoted towards AI-driven design in 2023. It is published today by Homestyler (Shanghai) Technology Co., Ltd.
The workflow is deliberately short: draw, decorate, visualise. You upload a photograph, a DWG file or a PDF of a floor plan, scan a room, or sketch it in 2D, and a proprietary CAD algorithm converts it into an editable 3D model with a claimed 99.1% accuracy on wall structures and dimensions. You then furnish the space by drag and drop from a catalogue of 1:1 furniture models drawn from real brand catalogues, and you can upload your own 3D models and 2D textures alongside them. Finally the cloud renderer takes over: 4K images in roughly three minutes on GPU clusters, which the company claims is sixty times faster than rendering locally.
Around that core sits a wide toolbox — multi-floor plans, interior modelling comparable to SketchUp, parametric kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, tiling, roofs, plumbing and electrical layouts, real-time lightmix and an environment editor. Outputs range from 1K images to 12K panoramas, 720-degree VR tours and animated videos, plus coloured plans, bills of materials and construction drawings. The AI Studio adds named modules: AI Stager, AI Moodboard, AI Planner, AI Render, AI Animator, AI Painter, AI Modeler, AI Decor, AI Texturer and AI Planter, together with a conversational agent called Spark.
Homestyler is also a community and a business platform. A gallery, a forum, weekly challenges, certifying bootcamps and an asset market surround the editor, and the company claims 20 million designers, 500,000 monthly active users and 650,000 submitted projects. GDPR overview
The implementation is concrete but incomplete. Annex A of the user agreement is a full Data Processing Agreement, signed alongside the main contract, and it cites GDPR articles 28, 29, 32, 33 and 34 by number. Annex B states that all data design follows the regulatory foundation of GDPR privacy by design, and lists technical measures: RBAC access control, MFA, encryption in transit, salted password hashing, monitoring and an incident response plan. The privacy policy sets out legal bases and the full set of data subject rights, and acknowledges that EEA and UK visitors fall under data protection law. Two gaps remain: no Article 27 representative in the European Union is designated and no Data Protection Officer is named, although the publisher is established in China and Chinese law governs the agreement.
Who owns the data?
Users keep everything they create. The privacy policy states that you retain all rights in, and are solely responsible for, the user-generated content you post, including renders, photos, videos and comments. Uploaded models must not infringe third-party rights, and Homestyler may remove disputed material. The platform itself — its architecture, images, documentation and catalogue — belongs to the Homestyler group, which grants users only a personal, royalty-free, non-transferable and non-exclusive licence. For personal data, Annex A of the user agreement casts the user as controller and Homestyler as processor acting on instruction. For AI-generated content, the terms warn that originality and copyrightability are legally uncertain and guarantee nothing.
Reuse rights
Users may reuse their own designs and renders freely, without asking permission — but the terms place the whole risk on them: any commercial exploitation of AI-generated content requires an infringement assessment carried out at the user's expense, and Homestyler disclaims all liability for the result. Note that anything shared or published in the community can be used, reproduced, modified and distributed by others, and suspending an account does not withdraw content already made public. On the vendor's side, personal data serves account verification and anti-money-laundering checks, payments, support, membership benefits, targeted marketing, and analytics. It is shared with group entities, payment providers, cloud hosts and advertising partners named as Google, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and VKontakte. Annex B commits Homestyler not to sell or share personal data, nor to use it outside the direct business relationship. Nothing is said, either way, about whether user designs train the AI models.

Homestyler itself holds ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification, and its security programme is said to follow ISO 27001, ISO 27017, ISO 27018 and CIS Benchmarks.
