tulos.ai
Finnish cloud accounting platform that reads receipts and invoices with AI, reconciles bank transactions and proposes ready-to-check entries, VAT treatment and filings, while the bookkeeper approves, corrects or rejects every suggestion and keeps full control.
What is tulos.ai?
tulos.ai is a Finnish cloud accounting platform published by Blackreef Oy for two audiences it names explicitly: entrepreneurs who want to keep their own books with AI support, and accounting firms that want to automate routine work and serve more clients with the same team. It runs in the browser with no installation, and the full product also works on a phone.
The workflow runs in four stages: collect the material, match the bank, approve the entries, then report and file. Receipts, PDFs and purchase invoices land in one workspace, singly or in batches. AI reads each document and pulls out the supplier, the amounts, the dates and the VAT data, from Finnish, English and Swedish paperwork alike. Bank transactions arrive through a connection operated by Enable Banking Oy, which the vendor says reaches more than 2,700 banks in 30 countries, and payments are matched to their documents without manual copying.
For every entry the software proposes an account, a VAT treatment and a justification drawn from earlier bookkeeping and from the document itself. The stated division of labour is that the professional decides: each suggestion can be approved, corrected or rejected, each decision leaves an audit trail, and the vendor sums up its design rule as no black box, meaning a suggestion that cannot be explained, checked and traced does not belong in the product. A command bar opened with a keyboard shortcut takes natural-language instructions and can prepare multi-step work in a single request. A separate expert-question feature answers accounting and tax questions from Finnish Tax Administration and Accounting Board guidance and shows the source links so the answer can be verified.
Downstream, the platform builds VAT calculations and EU recapitulative statements and files them electronically, keeps the profit and loss account, balance sheet and cash flow current, and adds a financial statement tool, entrepreneur payroll and filings to the Incomes Register. For accounting firms it layers on a multi-client view and sanctions screening against EU, OFAC and UN lists with an audit log.
The product is built around Finnish accounting, VAT and tax rules and connects to Verohallinto, the Incomes Register, PRH and the Maventa e-invoicing operator. Blackreef Oy was entered in the Finnish Trade Register on 28 August 2025, and several announced features were still marked as coming at the time of review.

How to use tulos.ai
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Open an account at app.tulos.ai and start the 30-day trial, which needs no payment card
- Alternatively, ask for a demonstration by email, since the site offers no booking page
- Choose a starting point rather than switching everything at once: one company, a client group or the client whose paperwork costs the most time
- Import what the start-up needs: chart of accounts, client master data, balances and open items
- Connect the bank accounts by completing the strong authorisation flow at the bank, through Enable Banking
- Order a Finnish Tax Administration production certificate if you will use the tax interfaces, then enter the transfer ID and one-time password in the service within 14 days
- Upload a month of receipts and purchase invoices, individually or as a batch, and let the AI read them
- Review the suggested accounts and VAT treatments, then approve, correct or reject each one
- Run the month-end close, clear the flagged exceptions and file the VAT return from the service
- Extend to further clients or client groups once the workflow holds, with vendor help for migration

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how tulos.ai handles your data.
GDPR overview
GDPR implementation is concrete and documented. Blackreef Oy (business ID 3555182-2) is named as controller for accounts, contracts, support and billing, and as processor for the bookkeeping material customers place in the service. A separate data processing agreement is published, alongside a privacy statement updated on 7 April 2026 and a website privacy statement. The privacy contact is personal_data@tulos.ai. Data subject rights are listed in full, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability, withdrawal of consent and the right to complain to the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman. Processing takes place primarily in the EU and EEA; transfers outside it rely on standard contractual clauses, and the agreement records the customer's explicit consent for named United States providers while stating the associated risk openly. Finnish law and the Finnish Data Protection Act apply.
Who owns the data?
The customer keeps the rights to its own data. Blackreef Oy grants itself only the licence needed to deliver, maintain, protect and support the service and to meet its legal duties, plus the right to use anonymised and aggregated data for analysis, measurement, testing, security work and product development, on condition that no individual customer or person can be identified. Where the platform processes bookkeeping material, the customer or its accounting firm is the controller and the vendor acts as processor. The vendor states it does not sell customer personal data to third parties. Customers can export the chart of accounts, documents, bookkeeping and client base in standard file formats at no extra cost.
Reuse rights
Customers may reuse their own data freely and without asking permission: the terms confirm the customer retains its rights, and the vendor commits to releasing the chart of accounts, source documents, bookkeeping records and client base as standard files at no additional charge if the customer moves to another system. On the vendor side, the stated purposes are account creation and access management, the customer relationship, support, billing, processing bookkeeping and banking material on the customer's instructions, retrieving bank balances and transactions once the user has authorised the connection, security and fraud prevention, logging, the vendor's own statutory accounting, and service analysis and development. The terms list automation, OCR, rules, machine learning and other AI among the techniques used to deliver the service. Nowhere does the site state a position on whether customer data is used to train AI models.

Hosting summary
The vendor names GCloud as its hosting provider, using App Engine, Kubernetes Engine, storage and database services, and states in two separate documents that data is stored in Hamina, Finland, and in Belgium. The privacy statement adds that personal data is processed primarily within the EU and EEA, and that any transfer outside it relies on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or another lawful basis. The data processing agreement records the customer's explicit consent for named United States providers, Google LLC for Analytics, Workspace and YouTube, and openly notes the risk this can carry. Bank connections run through Enable Banking Oy, a Finnish technical partner. Declared safeguards include access rights management, passwords and strong authentication, logging, backups, encryption in transit, staff instructions and need-to-know access. Note that the public website itself resolves to a content delivery node whose location says nothing about where customer data actually lives.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting tulos.ai.
- Automation complacency is the central risk: suggestions arrive pre-filled and plausible, and approving them without reading is easy, yet the terms place responsibility for every entry, filing and payment squarely on the customer
- Junior bookkeepers who only ever confirm proposals may not learn why an entry belongs to a given account, eroding the judgement the product itself says must stay human
- The postal address published on the site, Hitsaajankatu 6 in Helsinki, does not match the address in the Finnish Trade Register, which records Reelinki 22; the register entry is the more recently updated of the two
- The site states no position on whether customer data is used to train AI models; the nearest clause only permits anonymised and aggregated data to be used for product development
- No security certification such as ISO 27001 or SOC 2 is claimed, and the list of named sub-processors is short, which is thin for a product holding banking and payroll data
- The vendor is barely a year old and several advertised features were still unreleased at review, so continuity and roadmap delivery carry real risk for a system of record
- The homepage and pricing pages animate demonstration counters and fictitious company names, which can easily be mistaken for real performance figures or customer results
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Low for the software itself. It runs in the browser with nothing to install, the trial is self-service, and the business plans carry no setup fee. Two steps need attention: connecting a bank account requires completing the bank's strong authentication flow, and using the tax interfaces requires ordering a Finnish Tax Administration production certificate and entering its transfer ID and one-time password within 14 days. Accounting firms face a larger project, with assisted onboarding billed from EUR 990 and migration handled client group by client group, with vendor support.

Should you pick tulos.ai?
tulos.ai is a deliberately narrow product, and that is its main strength and its main limit at once. It is built around Finnish bookkeeping: the chart of accounts, VAT handling, the Tax Administration and Incomes Register interfaces, the domestic banks and the e-invoicing operator. A company outside Finland has little to gain from it, and the vendor does not pretend otherwise.
Within that perimeter the proposition is coherent. Routine document reading, bank matching and posting suggestions move to the software, while the accountant keeps the decision and the responsibility. The vendor is unusually explicit about that division of labour, about its refusal of a black box, and about the audit trail behind each approval. Pricing is easy to read: a flat monthly fee, unlimited entries, unlimited users, a 30-day trial without a card, and an entry point at EUR 39 per month, with e-invoice and extra bank account charges stated openly on top. The published page listing what the fixed-price package does not cover is a mark of seriousness that is rarer than it should be.
The reservations are those of a young product. Blackreef Oy was entered in the trade register on 28 August 2025, and a number of advertised functions - mobile applications, in-app bill payment, association bookkeeping, employee payroll - were still marked as coming. No security certification is claimed, the sub-processor disclosure is short, and the site takes no published position on whether customer data is used to train models. The API is sold only with the most expensive plan and has no public documentation.
For a Finnish accounting firm or small limited company willing to work with a young vendor, it deserves a trial. Elsewhere, it is simply not the right tool.
