Overview

What is MARA AI?

MARA AI is a software-as-a-service platform for online review and reputation management, built by MARA Solutions GmbH in Mannheim, Germany, and aimed squarely at hotels and restaurants rather than at businesses in general.

Its centre of gravity is the Review Inbox: a single queue connected to the platforms where guests actually write, namely Google, Booking.com and Tripadvisor, from which a reply can be generated and published without leaving the tool. Two clicks is the claim, and the customer testimonials put the practical gain at roughly two minutes per reply against five to ten before.

What separates it from a generic chatbot is how the wording is produced. Brand Voice fine-tunes the model on replies the property has already published, refreshing daily, so the output keeps the house tone rather than a neutral corporate register. Smart Snippets detects recurring topics and answers them consistently while varying the phrasing each time, which matters when the same complaint appears fifty times a month. Rules can automate the easy cases outright, typically four and five-star reviews with no written text, or produce drafts that a human validates.

The analytics half is equally developed. Review Analytics builds detailed pros and cons lists, an impact score showing where a property gains and loses stars, and category breakdowns such as Housekeeping or Front Office that can be drilled into. Groups can compare their own properties and benchmark against regional competitors. Ask Reviews Anything lets a manager interrogate the review corpus conversationally, and the AI Research Assistant, in public beta, takes a report described in plain language, schedules it, and emails a formatted PDF to recipients who need no MARA account.

Surveys collect fresh reviews with AI-drafted text for satisfied guests, review widgets display ratings on the property's own site, and a Chrome extension extends replying to third-party pages. A Mews integration brings PMS data in for room-level detail. The company claims more than 2,000 customers, rates 4.8 out of 5 across 450-plus reviews on HotelTechReport, and was named best reputation management software there in 2025 and again in 2026.

When to use MARA AI / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if MARA AI is the right fit.

When to use MARA AI

  • Hotel general managers who want a 100% response rate without writing every reply themselves
  • Hotel groups running dozens of properties who need property-by-property and group-level comparison
  • Restaurant and F&B managers tracking recurring complaints across Google and Tripadvisor
  • Guest experience and CX teams that need themes and impact scores rather than raw review text
  • Front office and reception staff answering reviews written in languages they do not speak

When not to use MARA AI

  • Private individuals: the terms restrict the service to businesses under section 14 of the German Civil Code
  • Single venues with a handful of reviews a year, since billing starts at EUR 60 per month per property
  • Teams that need a permanent free tier, as the free offer is a trial rather than a plan
  • Developers looking for a documented public API, which the terms mention but the site never publishes
  • Anyone needing a native iOS or Android app, since only a web app and a Chrome extension exist

How to use MARA AI

A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.

  1. Create an account at app.mara-solutions.com/register using an email address, with no credit card
  2. Complete the initial setup, which the site says takes about three minutes
  3. Connect your review sources so replies can be published directly to Google, Booking.com and Tripadvisor
  4. Let Brand Voice train itself on your existing replies; it is ready minutes after registration
  5. Open the Review Inbox and work through the queue, clicking Generate reply then Send
  6. Add one-click context where useful, for example asking it to mention a late check-out you granted
  7. Set automation rules for easy cases, such as four and five-star reviews with no written text
  8. Configure daily or weekly email notifications so no review goes unanswered
  9. Describe the reports you want in the AI Research Assistant, then set a cadence and recipients
  10. Install the Chrome extension separately if you also reply on third-party sites

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Replies keep the property's own tone because the model is fine-tuned on its published answers
  • Genuine time saving reported by customers, from five to ten minutes down to about two per reply
  • Replies in any language, which removes a real bottleneck for international properties
  • Unusually transparent privacy posture: public versioned DPA and twelve named subprocessors with processing locations
  • Processing takes place primarily in Germany and the EU, with an AI gateway that redacts personal data inside the EU
  • Pricing is published openly, with no minimum term by default and fifteen days' notice to cancel
  • Strong sector recognition: 4.8 out of 5 on HotelTechReport and best reputation management software in 2025 and 2026

Cons

  • No permanent free plan; the free offer is a trial and paid entry is EUR 60 per property per month
  • Per-property pricing adds up quickly for a group, and included replies are capped at 200 or 500 a month before per-answer charges
  • No public API documentation, even though clause 2.1 of the terms states the service can be accessed via an API
  • MARA holds no security certification of its own; the SOC 2 and ISO badges on the site belong to its subprocessors
  • The privacy policy dates from September 2022, lags the 2025 terms, and describes the website rather than the product
  • The terms and DPA page is linked from nowhere on the site and is reachable only through the sitemap
  • No iOS or Android app, and the Chrome extension is English-only with a small user base

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how MARA AI handles your data.

GDPR overview

Implementation is unusually concrete for this segment. MARA Solutions GmbH is established in Germany, so the GDPR applies directly and no Article 27 representative is needed. A data processing agreement under Article 28 is published as a versioned PDF, in force since 3 September 2024, with earlier versions kept online. A public subprocessor list, revision 1.0.6 dated 28 April 2026, names twelve providers with their processing location and safeguards, including 2021/914 standard contractual clauses. The agreement grants audit rights and details technical and organisational measures in an appendix. The privacy policy cites Articles 15 to 18, 20, 21 and 77 alongside the German BDSG. Two caveats: that policy dates from 9 September 2022 and covers the website rather than the product, and MARA itself holds no security certification.

Who owns the data?

The customer remains the data controller and MARA Solutions GmbH acts as processor under a published Article 28 GDPR data processing agreement. Reviews and replies stay the customer's; MARA corrects, restricts or deletes them on instruction, returns them in a structured, machine-readable format, and deletes or destroys everything at the end of the contract unless a statutory retention duty applies. One carve-out deserves attention: under clause 2.5 of the terms, MARA owns what it calls Production Data, meaning anonymous insight generated from usage and aggregated across customers. The terms state this contains no customer data, confidential information or personal data, and MARA may exploit it to improve its products.

Reuse rights

Customers get a non-exclusive, non-transferable and non-sublicensable right to use the service for the term of the agreement, and may not open access to third parties. Their own content is another matter: reviews, replies and analytics belong to them, can be exported at any time, and the terms add EU Data Act switching rights, with a thirty-day transition window to port exportable data or have it erased. Processing is delegated to twelve named subprocessors. Amazon Web Services and Vercel host, DeepL and Google Cloud translate, Grepture runs an AI gateway with PII redaction inside the EU, and OpenAI, Anthropic and Microsoft Azure host the models. For OpenAI and Anthropic, MARA states that customer data is not used for model training. Brand Voice is the nuance: it does fine-tune on the replies a customer has already published, but for that customer's own account.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
When the contract ends, MARA deletes or destroys all personal data, documents and processing results relating to it, unless a statutory retention duty applies, and documents that deletion on request. During the contract, data is corrected, deleted or restricted on the customer's instruction and can be exported in a structured, machine-readable format. EU Data Act clauses add a thirty-day transition window to port exportable data or have it erased. For the website, the privacy policy says data is deleted or blocked once the purpose for storing it ends; unsuccessful job applications are deleted two months after the final decision. No specific retention period is published for the reviews and replies handled inside the product itself.

Hosting summary

The data processing agreement states that processing takes place in principle on the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany, or within the European Union or the European Economic Area. Processing elsewhere requires the customer's prior consent and must satisfy Articles 44 to 49 GDPR. Hosting itself sits with Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL and Vercel, both processing in the European Union. The published subprocessor list is precise about the rest: DeepL, Grepture, Sentry, Customer.io, Pusher, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure all process in the EU, while OpenAI, Anthropic and Intercom process in the United States under 2021/914 standard contractual clauses. Grepture, which runs the AI gateway and personal data redaction, states that all its infrastructure is hosted exclusively within the EU with no transfers outside it. One technical caveat: the website's IP address resolves to a Cloudflare anycast node, which says nothing about where customer data actually lives.

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting MARA AI.

  • Prices are quoted per property, so the headline EUR 60 is not the bill for a group; the pricing table also shows an unexplained gap between the unit price and the stated monthly total
  • Included replies are capped at 200 or 500 a month, after which every extra answer is charged, so the real cost tracks review volume
  • The AI Research Assistant is free only until July 2026 and then becomes a paid extension at a price not yet announced
  • SOC 2 and ISO badges on the subprocessor page belong to suppliers, not to MARA; reading them as MARA's own certification would be a mistake
  • The postal address in the impressum differs from the one in the May 2025 terms, which suggests a move never reflected in the legal notice
  • Under clause 2.5 of the terms, MARA owns and may exploit anonymised, aggregated Production Data derived from usage
  • Leaning entirely on generated replies can erode the habit of reading guest feedback closely, which is the part no tool can outsource
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Low. An account is created with an email address and no credit card, and the site puts initial setup at about three minutes. Brand Voice trains itself on existing replies and is usable minutes after registration, with no manual configuration. The only genuinely technical step is connecting the review sources, which is what allows replies to be published directly rather than copied and pasted. Automation rules are optional. No development skills are needed for normal use; the API mentioned in the terms is undocumented, so anything beyond the interface would require contacting the vendor.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which review platforms does MARA AI connect to?
The site names Google, Booking.com and Tripadvisor explicitly, and a Mews integration brings property management system data in for room-level detail in reports.
Is there a free plan?
No. There is a free trial that requires no credit card, but no permanent free tier. Paid entry is EUR 60 per month and per property on annual billing.
What languages can MARA AI reply in?
The homepage states the tool works in any language and generates replies in the language of the review. The site's own structured data lists English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.
Is my data used to train AI models?
MARA states on its subprocessor page that customer data is not used for model training at OpenAI or Anthropic. Brand Voice is the exception worth knowing: it does fine-tune on your published replies, for your account only.
Where is the data hosted?
The data processing agreement says processing takes place in principle in Germany, the EU or the EEA. Three subprocessors process in the United States, namely OpenAI, Anthropic and Intercom, under standard contractual clauses.
Is a data processing agreement available?
Yes. A DPA under Article 28 GDPR is published as a PDF, in force since 3 September 2024, reachable from the terms and conditions page along with earlier versions.
Is there a mobile app?
No. MARA AI is a web application, with a Chrome extension for replying to reviews on third-party sites. No iOS or Android app is published.
Does MARA AI have an API?
Clause 2.1 of the terms states the service can be accessed by browser or via an application programming interface, but no public API documentation is published on the site.
What is the contractual commitment?
By default there is no minimum term. The agreement can be terminated at any time with fifteen days' notice to the end of a calendar month, and termination by email is sufficient.
Is MARA certified to SOC 2 or ISO 27001?
Not for MARA itself. The certifications listed on the subprocessor page belong to providers such as AWS, DeepL, Sentry, OpenAI and Anthropic, not to MARA Solutions GmbH.
Conclusion

Should you pick MARA AI?

MARA AI is a specialist, and it wears that well. It does one job, guest reviews for hotels and restaurants, and does it with more depth than the generic writing assistants a property might otherwise reach for. The differentiator is not that it generates text but that it generates your text: Brand Voice fine-tunes on replies the property has already published, and Smart Snippets keeps recurring answers consistent without making them read like a template. The analytics side, with impact scores and category breakdowns, gives managers something to act on rather than another dashboard to admire.

The surprise, for this segment, is the compliance posture. A public versioned data processing agreement, twelve named subprocessors with their processing location and safeguards, an AI gateway that redacts personal data inside the EU, and an explicit statement that customer data is not used to train the underlying models: that is more than most competitors publish. Buyers should note two things anyway. MARA holds no certification of its own, and the badges on the subprocessor page belong to its suppliers. And Brand Voice does train on customer replies, which is benign but worth understanding.

The reservations are commercial and documentary rather than technical. Pricing is per property and per month with capped reply allowances, so a group should model the total before committing. There is no free plan. The documentation is uneven: a 2022 privacy policy that describes the website rather than the product, a terms page linked from nowhere, and an API the contract mentions but the site never documents. For a hotel or restaurant group drowning in reviews, it is a credible and unusually transparent choice.
