Overview

What is GSpeech?

GSpeech is a cloud text-to-speech platform built for websites rather than for standalone voice production. It sits on top of a site you already run — WordPress, Wix, Shopify, Squarespace, Joomla or plain HTML — and turns page copy into audio that visitors can play, translate and download without leaving the page.

The engine pools three providers into one voice stack: roughly 230 Google Cloud voices (Standard, WaveNet, Neural2, Polyglot, Journey, Studio and News), around thirty Gemini voices in three tiers (Chirp 3 HD, Flash and Pro), and eleven OpenAI voices in a default and an HD variant. That comes to more than 300 voices across 98 languages, and none of it requires the customer to bring or pay for a Google, OpenAI or Gemini key: the voices are included in the plan. The machine voices offered on the free tier cover 68 languages.

Audio is generated once, stored in the vendor's cloud and served from cache. Character credits are consumed on generation only — the vendor calls this Generate Once, Keep and Play — so a page listened to a thousand times costs what it cost the first time. Nothing runs on the customer's own hosting and there are no server prerequisites.

On the page itself there are five widget types: a full-page player, a button player, a floating circle player, a Read Highlighted Text player that speaks whatever passage the visitor selects, and a spoken welcome message. Sixteen themes and custom colours are available, along with a text panel that highlights the sentence being spoken, a compact context bar that follows the reader down the page, and a globe control for real-time audio translation into another supported language.

Editorial control comes from content selectors, render elements and an exclusion list, from pronunciation aliases for brands and acronyms, from page-language detection that loads the matching voice, and from a sync feature that regenerates audio when the source text changes. The cloud console groups everything by website and reports play counts and character usage. GSpeech claims a billion characters generated, more than 4,000 active sites and thirteen years of operation.

What it does

  • Convert the text of any web page into AI-generated audio
  • Embed a listen player on the page — full, button, circle or highlighted-text
  • Translate the audio into another language in real time from the player
  • Let visitors hear any passage they select on the page
  • Tune voice, speed up to 4x, pitch by up to 20 semitones and volume gain
  • Set pronunciation aliases so brands and acronyms are read correctly
  • Track plays and character usage from the cloud console
Audience

When to use GSpeech / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if GSpeech is the right fit.

When to use GSpeech

  • Publishers and bloggers who want readers to listen to long articles on mobile
  • Online course and documentation teams narrating lessons and knowledge bases
  • Multilingual brands that need the same page read out in a visitor's own language
  • Site owners addressing accessibility, including WCAG-minded and visually impaired audiences
  • Web agencies managing audio across many client sites from one dashboard

When not to use GSpeech

  • Developers who need a programmatic text-to-speech API rather than a page widget
  • Anyone wanting voice cloning or a custom brand voice, which the catalogue does not offer
  • Teams looking for speech-to-text transcription, the opposite direction
  • Mobile-first products, since there is no iOS or Android application
  • Compliance-heavy organisations needing a DPA, a subprocessor list or a security certification
Get started

How to use GSpeech

A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.

  1. Create a free account on gspeech.io, which takes about a minute
  2. Add a website in the cloud console with its URL and native language
  3. Connect the platform: install the WordPress plugin or Joomla extension, or paste the script before the closing body tag
  4. Map the content selector and render element to your markup, using an exclusion list to trim navigation and footers
  5. Create a widget: full page, button, circle, highlighted text or welcome message
  6. Pick the voice, language, speed, pitch and theme, or inherit the site-wide defaults
  7. Drop a player mid-article with a shortcode or a div, if you want one in the body copy
  8. Publish the multi-page widget so players appear across the whole site
  9. Add pronunciation aliases for brand names and acronyms
  10. Watch plays and character consumption in the console and adjust the plan accordingly

Trust & Privacy

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how GSpeech handles your data.

GDPR overview

GDPR implementation is documented rather than merely asserted. The privacy policy, last updated 18 July 2024, sets out the legal bases article by article — Article 6(1)(a), (b), (c), (d) and (f) — and a dedicated section for European Union residents lists rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection and withdrawal of consent, together with the right to complain to a supervisory authority. Requests go to info@smarts.club, and the policy links to the European Commission's data protection pages and to the Swiss authority. Servers are described as sitting in both the United States and the EU. The gaps are just as explicit: no Article 27 EU representative is named, no data processing agreement is offered, and no subprocessor list is published.

Who owns the data?

Under the terms of service you keep the copyright and any other rights you already hold in the content you submit, and you remain solely responsible for it. Smarts Club LLC owns the GSpeech brand, logo, domain and the rest of the site. Text sent for synthesis is stored in the vendor's database and is not shared, other than with the service providers described by category in the privacy policy; generated audio files sit on Google Cloud under the vendor's own account. Public content such as a testimonial carries an irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide and sublicensable licence to the company, and personal data may be transferred in a merger or acquisition.

Reuse rights

Generated audio can be downloaded from the player as often as you like on paid plans, and commercial use of the voices is included in the subscription price: there is no separate voice licence and no third-party API bill to settle on the side. What you may not do is resell the service itself — the terms forbid reproducing, copying, selling, redistributing or otherwise exploiting any part of it commercially without prior written consent. You must also hold the rights to the content you have read aloud. After a refund, files already generated stay available under your then-current plan, including the free one.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
The privacy policy sets no figure. Information is kept no longer than is reasonably necessary for the purposes it was collected for and to meet legal obligations, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law or a court order. The vendor also reserves the right to delete your data, content and account outright if they breach the terms or applicable law. You can ask for deletion through live chat or by writing to info@smarts.club, and identity checks may be applied before the request is honoured. Any personal data belonging to a child under 13 is deleted as soon as it is identified. After a refund, audio you have already generated remains playable under your current plan. Nothing is said about anonymisation.

Hosting summary

The data controller is Smarts Club LLC, registered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, so the governing jurisdiction is the United States. The privacy policy states that connections are routed to servers located in the United States and the EU, and that all information provided is processed and held on web servers and internal systems in those two territories; using the site counts as consent to that transfer. Generated audio files are stored on Google Cloud under the vendor's own account, with a pointer to Google's cloud privacy notice. Payments are handled by Stripe and PayPal. The public site resolves to 162.240.64.102, a Unified Layer address geolocated in Phoenix, United States. Customers cannot pick a hosting region, and no security certification such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001 is claimed anywhere on the site.

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting GSpeech.

  • The text of your pages is sent to the vendor and stored in its database so that audio can be generated
  • Generated audio lives on Google Cloud under the vendor's account, not yours
  • No DPA and no subprocessor list are published, which a European controller will have to request
  • Personal data may be transferred if the company is merged, acquired or sold
  • Testimonials you publish carry a perpetual, irrevocable licence to the company
  • Subscriptions renew automatically and prices may change without notice long enough to cancel first
  • A poorly tuned synthetic voice can distort meaning on sensitive content, so proofreading by ear still matters
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Low to moderate. Nothing is installed on your own hosting and there are no server requirements. WordPress and Joomla have official plugin and extension paths; every other stack takes a single script placed before the closing body tag, with documented routes for Wix, Shopify and Squarespace. The one genuinely technical step is mapping the content selector and render element to your markup, using CSS-style ids and classes plus an exclusion list. Fifteen step-by-step guides cover the rest, and several non-technical reviewers report getting a player live in minutes with help from support.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which website platforms does GSpeech support?
Any HTML website. Dedicated paths exist for WordPress and Joomla via an official plugin and extension, and documented routes cover Wix, Shopify, Squarespace and Drupal. Everything else takes a one-line script embed.
Do I need my own Google, OpenAI or Gemini API keys?
No. GSpeech describes itself as No API Keys Required: the keys are created for you and, on paid plans, usage is included in the plan price. You never pay the voice providers directly.
How are characters counted?
Only when audio is generated for the first time. Replaying a stored file is unlimited and costs nothing extra — the vendor calls this Generate Once, Keep and Play. The allowance is per account.
Will it slow my website down?
No. Audio is synthesised in the GSpeech cloud, stored there and served from cache, so your own host never runs text-to-speech on a page request. There are no server prerequisites.
How many voices and languages are available?
More than 300 AI voices across 98 languages on paid plans, pooled from Google Cloud, Gemini and OpenAI. The free plan uses standard machine voices, which cover 68 languages.
Is there a free plan?
Yes, a permanent one: machine voices, up to 10 connected websites and 50,000 characters of new audio per month, with no credit card required. AI voices start on the paid tiers.
What does the cheapest paid plan cost?
Personal is 9.99 USD per month on monthly billing, or 99.90 USD per year, which the vendor presents as two months free. It covers one website and 100,000 characters per month.
Does GSpeech offer a developer API?
No API or developer documentation is published on the site. Everything is configured through the cloud console and the page-level widgets, so integration is by script embed rather than by programmatic calls.
How do I cancel, and can I get a refund?
Cancel through the contact form or info@gspeech.io at least one day before the next charge, or from your payment provider. Plans billed by the vendor can be fully refunded within fifteen days; AppSumo lifetime purchases follow AppSumo's own policy.
Conclusion

Should you pick GSpeech?

GSpeech solves a narrow problem well: making an existing website listenable without adding load to its hosting or a second bill from a voice provider. Two design choices carry most of that value. Credits are consumed when audio is generated and never again on playback, so a popular article does not become a recurring cost; and the Google, OpenAI and Gemini voices come inside the plan, with no API keys for the customer to obtain, budget for or rotate. The multi-CMS coverage is real and separately documented for WordPress, Wix, Shopify, Squarespace, Joomla and raw HTML, which sets it apart from the many WordPress-only readers.

The reservations are about governance rather than the product. There is no public API and no mobile app, so the tool ends where the browser ends. The vendor is small — Smarts Club LLC, founded by Simon Poghosyan, with the product itself dating back to 2012 — and its data paperwork reflects that: no data processing agreement, no subprocessor list, no Article 27 EU representative and no security certification, with retention described only as no longer than reasonably necessary. Organisations with a compliance desk will need to ask for those documents before signing. The first paid tiers are also tight on site count, at one site for Personal and three for Pro, and the free plan is limited to machine voices.

Social proof, on the other hand, is unusually consistent across WordPress.org, the Joomla Extensions Directory, AppSumo and Trustpilot, and it converges on the same two points: the voice quality and the founder's own support. For a publisher, an educator or an agency that wants audio on a site this week, that combination is a reasonable bet.
