Barin Sports PRO is a wearable GPS and real-time analytics system for sports teams, capturing 12,000 data points per athlete per second. It combines a tracking unit, a private-cloud base station, a pitchside tablet app and browser dashboard.
What is Barin Sports PRO?
Barin Sports PRO is the wearable tracking and analytics system built by Barin Sports AD, a Bulgarian company based at Sofia Tech Park. It is sold as an all-in-one hardware-as-a-service platform: hardware, software and service arrive together, and the club assembles nothing from separate suppliers.
Four parts make up the system. The unit worn by the player captures more than 12,000 data points per athlete per second, with integrated digital processing and oversampling, and positions at 56 Hz, a rate the vendor presents as ahead of the market and which its CEO claims no other company matches. In-house sensor fusion is meant to hold that accuracy where satellite positioning usually struggles: large stadiums, city canyons and bad weather. Edge computing runs on the unit itself, so the device calculates locally and can be improved by updates after delivery, while a data-hub architecture lets it take in third-party performance and condition devices.
The base station comes second: an in-hand private cloud that collects every unit simultaneously during a session, returns predictive insight at the touchline and stores the whole set for historical analysis and benchmarking. Third is the Evolution application, delivered on a lightweight, waterproof tablet with a stylus, offering a customisable multi-colour dashboard, individual monitoring, targets and alerts. Fourth is a web application that runs in any browser on an unlimited number of external devices, with time splitting by sub-session and player group, pre-configured and fully customisable analytics, summary reports and PDF and CSV exports.
The system earned FIFA Quality certification in May 2024, after impact testing in Scotland, a social compliance audit in Switzerland, field tests in Cadiz and data analysis by MIT and Victoria University, backed by CHF 5 million of product liability insurance; Barin Sports was one of only two suppliers to have live data tested. The vendor says it wants to reach mid-tier and smaller clubs as well as the elite. Documented users include the Bulgarian national team, Levski Sofia through 2028, Spartak Varna, Soroksar SC, the Bulgarian Tennis Federation and a Portuguese rollout with the telecom operator NOS. GDPR overview
Barin Sports states GDPR compliance explicitly and, being established in Bulgaria, sits inside the EU, so no Article 27 representative is designated or needed. The policy lists the expected rights: access, for which a modest administrative fee may be charged, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability, exercised by email, by post or through the platform's settings section, with a response time of one month. Erasure is qualified by legal obligation, public-interest archiving, research and statistics, and the establishment or defence of legal claims. The competent authority is named: the Bulgarian Commission for Personal Data Protection. Gaps remain, however: no DPO is appointed, no data processing agreement is offered, no subprocessor list is published, and no minimum age is set even though the system has been used with teenagers. Who owns the data?
The privacy policy covers both the barinsports.com website and the Barin Pro service platform, and the personal data involved can include health data. Barin Sports bases account and service processing on its legitimate interest rather than on consent. Marketing messages and feedback requests need prior agreement, and photos and videos are used to improve front-end services and build marketing material only with express consent. Beyond that, the company creates anonymous information from the data to develop and promote its services or to pass to other organisations with an interest in them, runs comparative analyses against benchmarks, and keeps records for statistical and service-analysis purposes. Data is shared with employees, partners, vendors and service providers on a need-to-know basis, with professional advisers such as lawyers and accountants, with insurers, with public authorities where the law requires it, and with a successor in the event of a merger; no named list of subprocessors is published. The announced safeguards are end-to-end encryption of communications, pseudonymisation, encryption of stored data, and authentication and authorisation controls on access; access is limited each time to the specific purpose of the processing, and is handled on a no-name basis wherever linking the data to a named individual is unnecessary. On the product side, part of the hosting is local: the base station acts as a private cloud that collects the wearable data live during a session and then stores it for historical analysis and benchmarking, so session data sits on equipment the club has on site rather than only in a remote service. Separately, the public website is served from a Bulgarian IP address belonging to SuperHosting.BG. That describes the marketing site, not the platform, and should not be read as the hosting location of athlete data. No data processing agreement and no subprocessor list are published to fill the remaining gaps.
